Is nobody gonna tell him there are actually worlds A-D? Miyamoto must have been going through something. This game is pure evil. Update: just looked it up and apparently you have to have beaten the game at least 8 times and then hold A on the title screen when you start the game.
There are so many video game essays about how the first super mario bros is the perfect game with perfect level design. It's like Miyamoto saw into the future, saw what everybody loved about the game, and decided to do absolutely none of that for the lost levels

IIRC, Miyamoto didn't have anything to do with Lost Levels. He was busy working on Doki Doki Panic, after he was done with that saw how Lost Levels turned out, he hated it. He hated hard and lazy the game was designed, that's the primary reason he didn't release it to the west initially and reskinned DDP as Super Mario Bros 2. Basically considering that as the true sequel.

The NES controller had the B button to the left of the A button. The SNES controller had the exact same layout as the Switch Pro controller. I do not understand the complaint.
