    I'm Posting these to track my progress as a rider, not really for entertainment. I think it will be neat to look back in a year to see the improvements I've made over time. My goal is to get 50 hours of seat time this year and enter my first race. This is my third time on the bike with 2.5 hours of total seat time at the start of this video. I'm very aware that my skill level sucks and I'm open to suggestions on drills and ways to improve! You guys all ROOOCK and I hope you have a great week 🤘

      Practicing your balance in the garage on the bike is a huge help, practice lifting and dabbing to get back on the pegs and stay on the pegs as long as you can without dapping back down again, after 15 minutes a day 7 days a week you'll have way more balance and confidence on the bike.

      Also, always keeping at least 1 or 2 fingers on the clutch and brake will help significantly to stop whisky throttling.

    Just wanted to say thank you. I've really been enjoying your 2nd channel. I'm sure more people than just me appreciate the extra work you've been putting in to get this content out.

    Mike, I rode professionally for quite some time, 1999-2011, your progress is right on par, learning and pushing yourself a bit is exactly how you become better, I would suggest finding a riding buddy that’s got some skills and experience so that you can learn from others. Also riding in the same area can give you a false confidence, try to ride in different places to see how the bike reacts to different dirt, rocks etc. next, time to take to the sky! Lol, learn to jump slow and easy then send it a little more when you feel comfortable and confident. Keep it cool, cuz slamming sucks and sets you back! Good luck bro!

    I just want to throw 3 things your way 1 don’t ever apologize for being inexperienced but also don’t be rude to outsiders trying to help 2 don’t forget the slow basics (being able to stand on the bike while not moving, slow cone drills, emergency braking, popping up the front wheel like a mini wheelie to get over branches and such, etc) 3 don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it, unlike other groups out there the motorcycle/dirtbike crowd are all here to help and love to see others succeed

    Following your experience with this 250 is making me want one for woods purposes even more. I've tried shoehorning my mx bikes and quads into the role for years and it never works. A factory setup bike like this seems a much more enjoyable experience. Love the content!

      Glad you're enjoying it! It will be interesting to do mods down the line having come from the stock bike to see if it does actually help.

    can't understand the fascination with the dunes when you have all that going on in your back yard, id die for something like that round our way in the uk

      I agree - these trails are a lot more fun than the dunes in my opinion. It's a different experience. I wish I had found these trails a loooong time ago!

    I'm 55,been riding since I was 5.grew up in upstate ny,trail conditions were slick,rocky,and tree roots like you wouldn't believe.riding that single track will force you to b a better rider! The more comfortable you get on the single track,the better.i moved somewhat close to Attica in,and it seems like they trails around here are a breeze,and,im riding a xr650l to boot!

    You are doing great. It is super wise to avoid puddles. Unless you can clearly see the bottom, proceed slowly through them. 4 wheeler guys like to put logs in deep ruts in puddles to help get through them. That doesn't work well for 2 wheels. That is a pretty sweet bike. I have Honda's version of that bike in 250 and 450 sizes. LOVE THEM, and love your channel. Keep up the progress.

    I aint a pro dirt bike rider, actually i was like you a sport quad rider for 10 years and 3 year earlier I switched to a yz250x dirt bike. here is some quick advice to get your skill level up faster:
    - watch video on body positioning and practice those
    - watch clutch control drills and practice those
    - get use to 1 or 2 finger on clutch lever and front brake lever
    - practice draging the rear brake for future wheelies initiated from the clutch pop or just from whoops and applying throttle.
    Playing around and applying all the above will get your skills way up there, way faster more than riding around trails.
    At least it did for me. I hope you enjoy your new toy 🤘 Cheers

    I’m really enjoying these new videos even if it’s just trail riding to get more comfortable on the new bike. Have you thought about adding a handheld hiking-type GPS to the bars to track where you are going so you can always get back if you do get lost? They are also good to check speed, distance travelled, and work great in the pines.

    • @MichaelSaboEXTRA
      @MichaelSaboEXTRA  6 місяців тому +1

    thanks for these vids, loving the second channel. does the difference in mx riding style of pinching your legs in more translate to atv riding? do you think it will add something when you’re on an atv now and make you more versatile?

    • @MichaelSaboEXTRA
      @MichaelSaboEXTRA  6 місяців тому +1

      I think from riding quads 99% of the time, I never developed the habit of squeezing with my legs. I would rely on the fenders and heel guards. This is probably why I always had issues with arm pump - I'm sure squeezing with my legs will help with quad riding too.

      My first love was dirt bikes. I've always loved all things that go fast - I think I gravitated towards quads because I was faster on them - I never took the time to build my skill on a bike. I really enjoy riding both.

    I think one day you will look back at this single track footage and laugh.. I don't say that to be mean. For many of us who love off road riding, our skill and experience eventually increases to a point where we avoid flat open dirt tracks, and seek out single track exclusively. . It becomes an addiction.. so if you continue long term with the dirtbike, I believe that you will end up there too.. and you will see crazy progress when you look back at these videos!
    For most beginners single track isn't fun tbh.. its difficult and hard work.. you spend all your energy and concentration trying to stay upright and avoid the trees.. but when your skill improves, you will rip through that stuff at speed and its one of the most addictive feelings ever!! I promise you this, go back and ride that single track in a year's time.. it will be a cake walk.. and it will make you laugh. Happens to all of us during the learning phase. Haha!
    Anyway Mike, love the videos, keep enjoying the journey! Every stage of riding a dirtbike is new and exciting!

    What made you want a 250 over a 450

    • @MichaelSaboEXTRA
      @MichaelSaboEXTRA  6 місяців тому +2

      450 is too much bike for my skill level in my opinion. This 250 rips when you open it up, at least I think so.

    • @SportbikerNZ
      @SportbikerNZ 6 місяців тому

      Learning to shred on a 250 will develop your skills faster than starting on a 450. A 250 forces you to learn to squeeze speed out of the corners and tricky terrain because you haven't got lazy straight line power. Same principle applies to any motor vehicle sport. Starting on powerful machines stunts your development as confidence gets sapped when the power bites you and you wreck, and the wreck is usually more punishing on the bigger machines. Also forming lazy habits like becoming straight line warriors and horribly slow in corners, because you were never forced to squeeze every drop of speed out of cornering by having no power.
