It's quite simple. Just as you've said, Star Wars isn't real. Ewan and Alec are different actors who portrayed the same fictional character. Ewan will not turn into Alec physically, nor does he need to. What we "need" to believe that Ewan's Obi-Wan develops as a character into Alec's Obi-Wan. Which seems credible to me.

Well, the narrative integrity of Star Wars is far more important than that of Aquaman. Star Wars has built a legacy that's almost a half century old, I'm sure if Aquaman had gone through the same process, people would have similar standards for it.
And likewise, since Star Wars is so important, so is Obi-Wan(ranks 37th in AFI's top heroes' list) and therefore our suspension of disbelief is MORE important. And it sticks out when something so important isn't logically consistent.
We can forgive Aquaman to change tertiary characters like how we forgave the 3rd Mummy movie when it replaced Rachel Weisz with Maria Bello.

Simple answer. Modern audiences have long memories and like their stories to be coherent to the point that if one isn’t that’s considered a plot hole, and go to great lengths making up fanon to fill them. This is especially the case when it is known that all the iterations of a story are made by the same people or companies, who promise not to contradict themselves, as Disney did in the acquisition contract.

I don't mind Kenobi's aging discrepancy, the bigger issue for me is character and overall lore inconsistencies. But I do think they should've given Kenobi some more grey . I've always thought the reason Kenobi and Vader were slower in a new hope versus the prequels was purely due to aging and disability on Vader's part.

That last part makes me think of certain politicians that say completely different things to their followers, on interviews and on debates. They are chameleons that change their discourse depending on the people around them. What they actually believe in? Money. How much can they steal while in power. And the followers sometimes notice the contradictions but more often that not can rationalize them, possibly this is related to the phenomenon of cognitive dissonance.

I never understood people being upset by the EU being considered "non-canon". It's like, did those stories resonate with you? Do they still resonate? Then who cares what the Disney board says? They can exist perfectly well within your own Canon. For me, the two Kotor games are my favourite stories in all of Star Wars, even more so than the OT. And they've never been non-canon to me.

    • @fanmovie357

I agree with you on the unimportance of things being canon or not the problem is though, Disney canceled every single legends project except SWTOR.
I wanted to read the sequel to Knight Errant and that very interesting period of SW where the sith were warlords in the outer and mid rim and the jedi and republic only really controlled the core worlds, that could have been at least a very nice trilogy or even more but thanks to disney it was only one book, and even now 10 years later they have yet to explore beyond the time frame of the films even High republic is too close in my opinion to the films because of the restriction inherent in the 1000 years of peace the republic had after Bane.
I think that is the worst they have done since it was unnecessary and in exchange they decided to narrow the scope of the universe.

Loved this. And you didn’t even touch on George Lucas altering “truth” in Star Wars as he changes the true history of events with the addition of altered scenes. Most famously the Han shot first debate is pointless in the grand scheme of things but has remained a constant question amongst fans seeking the truth.

Audience believes the canon until it's broken. A part of audience that didn't like 'the break' starts ignoring and complaining about what they don't like, and the rest just don't care.
When a franchise gets so big and popular as SW, there will be multiple views as to what the 'canon' is or isn't.
Almost nobody REALLY cares what Disney thinks. What Disney thinks makes people angry or indifferent.
The temporary problems start when the new additions to a franchise become so cynical and bad as the new content for Star Wars, Alien, Terminator and Predator have been.
Very small amount of people dislike 'The Mandalorian'. Quite a lot of people don't really like 'The Book of Boba Fett' and very few people like 'The Rise of Skywalker'.
There is no Star Wars canon anymore, not really. And that doesn't bother Disney one bit. They like it that way. If everyone in 'the market' finds something they like, then Disney is making money. If there are people angry about what's been done to Star Wars, then that's free press for Disney. You have to remember that it's not just the movie market anymore, but streaming services too. And the merch.
George Lucas made a cash cow and Disney bought it. There will always be Star Wars shows, toys and movies. Plus, there is Disneyland.
Disney doesn't care if you like it or not. They have so many franchises that they can afford to take a break from Star Wars and then come back to it in a decade with a great fanfare and promises that 'all will be fixed'.
The Disney copyright of various stuff will outlive the internet 'rage' about it. Remember, it's 95 years now. Trust me, you will not care about Star Wars when you'll be sucking food through a straw while Florida sinks and the world around you burns.

The oldies like the original Star Wars same Star Trek got quasi-religion status bit it can be same as Bible verses
15 Bible Verses to Encourage You
John 16:33. "In the world, you will have tribulation. ...
Isaiah 41:10 (NIV) "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. ...
    Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV) ...
    Psalm 34:4-5, 8. ...
    Romans 8:28. ...
    Joshua 1:9. ...
    Matthew 6:31-34 (NIV) ...
    Proverbs 3:5-6.
Star Wars every director Fromm JJ to Ryan can have their own version of Star Wars. And we must be honest G. Lukas said about the new version that kids love it, because they already grew with CGI saturated media, and jumping animated Yoda is cool in their eyes not idiotic in oldies eyes :))) We must be forgiving. Disney's own Disney hires directors and we know how studio platforms had meddled with artistic integrity, Shrek and revenge of the Nerd (Jeffrey Katzenberg) all movie is about shitting on Disney fairytales every second is dedicated to anti-Disney fairytales by away Shrek 2 is better than Shrek 1 very rare phenomena in Hollywood where the sequel is better than the initial movie. still, Disney is more a business platform, not directors and writers who create Star Wars.

The way I see it Star Wars (1977) and The Empire Strikes Back were Star Wars films. You could argue that the rot began to set in with Return of the Jedi, though that was still, just about, a Star Wars film. Anything after that just isn't Star Wars. Let go of it folks.
It's not much different from any other film with an initial huge impact that led to a sequence of sequels and spin-offs: Friday the 13th, Halloween, and maybe even more clearly Jaws. Is Jaws 2 a Jaws film. I think it's much easier to make a case that it's not, than to make a case that it is. Ultimately it's up to you what you take as canon. Godfather 1 and 2 are Godfather films. Godfather 3 isn't. Seems reasonable. YMMV.
