When I first saw Amarout, I was surprised like everyone else. But I've also felt this longing. It felt nostalgic in a way. It felt like home. Later when going thru the patches, it all clicked. Amarout is home. I have no idea how they made that place so nostalgic for me. But they some how made it to be. This is truly a unique story I have ever come across in my life. Not just in video games but anything I have seen.
It's truly one of the most incredible narrative experiences out there. And yeah it does feel like home, the music feels like its calling you to a familiar place.
It is why it's my go to place to sit and relax. The music there and in the tempest are my favorite themes.
The art deco architecture calls home to places like New York City.
It was home to me. Bcuz it looked a lot like Zanarkand from Final Fantasy X. (Which was my very first final fantasy game) I really like how Amarout was similar to Zanarkand

@@Volkaru Just starting this video at the time of this comment and he didn't?? Oh nooo!! But I have to admit, the phrasing was a tad bit odd to me and I almost didn't pick it too. I prefer the JP phrasing, a simple Ohayou (Good Morning). The shakespearean-ness of "Tis good to see you awake" almost sounded pretentious for me 😅 but I saw G'raha Tia so I picked it. Thank goodness I did.
Ah okay he picked option 1. I almost picked that too! Was kinda bracing for cringe because I have never seen that option picked before and his flattened ears just made me sad, but oh the smile at the end and general happy mood was cute ^_^ Actually some of the "mean" options from earlier branches also result in quite wholesome outcomes. Like the one where you tell Ardbert he is interrupting your dinner. I was like oh no... but the response was oddly wholesome xD like a "well EXCUSEE ME" and then he gets hyped talking about food lmao

The final scene of Ardbert walking towards his friends is so bittersweet. They were heroes being remembered as villains. They finally can rest in peace knowing their world is saved, and they have a part in that.
It's a beautiful bitter-sweet moment 😢
fun little thing to notice. Emet slouches ALL the time, as though burdened by a great weight. after you defeat him? he stands straight, as though the burden has been lifted as he passes it on to us because unlike he thought before the fight, we are in fact worthy to carry it.

A more important fact is that he shattered the White Auracite. You did NOT capture his soul. This means he could have chose to retreat to the rift and rebuilt his strength, but he didn't. He accepted his loss.

Sweet Hydaelyn, the ugly crying... I remember the ugly crying. You are not alone. Never alone. Don't apologize for your emotions. They are right and good and painful in their intensity and it's a damn videogame but it's also so much more than that and that's okay. We call it "Feelsbringer" for a reason.
you know I always wondered why Emet Selch walked so oddly at the beginning, like he was slouching and just apathetic to everyone. I then summarized after learning about him more that, he's just tired... Imagine coming from a Utopian world, full of highly intelligent people. It's all gone, and out of all the remaining people you have left, your role is the most tedious one. Setting up the pieces, building the empires, making sure everything works as intended. Even among your breatheren, you are alone.
I think all the ascians in some degree, cling to the old days, and will do whatever it takes to bring it back
not only that, but he's also carrying a huge burden on his shoulders. it's symbolic. at the end, he sits up straight in his ascian robe, meaning he was finally freed from his burdens.
Add to that the crushing disappointment. For every mortal life he has to live, he's had to depart from countless family, friends, aquantiences, etc. Even if there are thousands of those he hated, there were probably those who he liked who he had to watch wither and die. He got to watch the worst and the best of the worlds, and that kind of repeated loss and exposure would do a number of anyones faith.

I saw this like...20 times or even more. So when I see a new reaction I think there's no way I'll cry again. No way. Then Ardbert come back to his friend and damn, it hits me so hard every.single.time.... That boy truly deserves peace.

I didn't knew that your choice on that end with Exarch could lead to different results, i choose the last option and i had a little scene of the Exarch crying and saying something else, thats actually pretty cool
I am heartened to know that someone else cried just as hard as me when I reached that part of the game! And what an accomplishment, on the part of the FFXIV team, to have made a story that can stir the emotions like that! I think it's not in spite of it being an MMO, but BECAUSE it is an MMO, and you have such a deep and personal investment in your Warrior of Light and what the world and the other characters mean to them. It's brilliant.
A Couple of things
1. THANK YOU ALL for going on the journey with me. It's been incredible sharing it with you all, and I can't wait to share more.
2. No i did not pick the "correct" graha response option. I took it as "glad you're okay" in the moment with the overwhelming emotions. I did go back and see his response to that... and my heart hurts.
3. There is some mess up in the recording in a couple of places pre-Hades fight, so I apologize for that, but I hope they are only slight enough to look past and not effect your experience too much

I think really there is no 'correct' g'raha option, as much as everyone adores that particular one. I really think it's how you feel in the moment/how your character would respond in that situation. The 'correct' option is whatever option the player picks as it's the right one for them in that moment. I think sometimes people forget that not everyone plays the same way/picks the same options!
Indeed. There is no such things like “correct” options. Glad you saw our cat boy bursting into tears afterwards tho :3
And yeah I know there’s no correct response to that moment, though folks feel very strongly about it and I can understand why.

It’s really good right? This is the first MMO story that made me cry. All those memories from ARR, Heavensward, and Stormblood... I’m playing this game since ARR and this 5.0 MSQ made me think that it was absolutely, totally worth it.

Talking with the Scions before facing off Emet... I am reminded of FFX.
The moment when you first reach the Zanarkand ruins and you sit at the campfire. The thoughts that are going through everyone's head as they make their way to the temple with Yuna.

Your tears brought me to tears too. :( The ending to 5.0 is pretty much perfect and hits you in the feels.
The idea about the End Times and the last duty has been set up in Amaurot. We've been told that these Ancients could just create life and creatures at will. We've also been told and explained that the slightest distraction could make for very unexpected results; like the one who wanted to create a lion and saw an eagle land nearby the moment he tried to conceive it and got distracted... and apparently made a griffon.
Now imagine a thing happening that both causes your creation powers happen automatically, and your scared mind starts to wonder what it is that can do such a thing. It must be a TERRIBLE monster causing such a thing! And there it is right now! Materializing RIGHT in front of you! Is it alone? Are there more? Fear begets fear and more monsters appear... The more frightened these Ancients became, the more horrible creatures they created themselves. And not just creatures: Rampant destructive magic, all sorts of horrible things.
And thus somehow the Ancients started to destroy themselves and the only one who could put a stop to this was Zodiark...
I never thought of it that way. So in summary, them trying to play god is what caused their ultimate downfall.
@@1LuvMLPFiM except they weren't trying to play god, this power was inherent in their nature. that's why they tried to drown out the risks of individuality with bland matching cloths, masks, and an abundance of mundane bureaucracy.
There's an Amaurotine npc you can talk to that describes what actually happens. It began as a keening from the earth that actually wrests their control over their magic away from them. Something that took their control away from them and caused their greatest fears to manifest. That keening, whatever it was, began on the other side of the world and gradually made its way to Amaurot.
The exact quote is: "Tis said it starts suddenly, a cacophonous keening from beneath the earth. The sound distorts all living things within earshot, and wrests from us control of our creation magicks.
Once that happens, all is lost. Fear, pain, despair...every dread impulse is siphoned from our minds and given substance: an eternal fall of fiery rain; an incessant spawning of nightmarish beasts..."
So, if that quote is what happens, then it's not so much them manifesting frightening things simply because they're imagining something terrible. These are immortal beings that have been highly trained in controlling their magicks. I don't think they'd destroy themselves just from being scared of something and that fear then becoming reality. Something quite literally took their power from them and made it go out of control. Not only that, but it twisted and warped all living things within earshot of it. From this I gather some Amaurotines may have actually become the monsters we saw in the Amaurot dungeon.

Thank you so much for posting your journey and sharing it! I love watching players reactions through the story and I wish I could forget ShB so that I could experience it all over again. It warms my heart to know that we both cried at the same parts! I adore ShB and its wonderfully crafted story (I still cry about it and still ugly cry at a few certain parts) so seeing you enjoy your experience is special to me too, like going through it the first time.
I've liked bad guys before. I've like their strength and tenacity. I've liked their ruthlessness. I've liked their passion...but never have I cried over one in my life until now...damn you Emet

Shadowbringers was amazing all the way through, but this really is when FFXIV became my favorite game of all time, and 43:38 my single favorite gaming moment of all time.
Ah yes, Emet is Hades, Loghrif is Gaia, Mitron is Artemis... The Convocation was the bloody Ancient Greece
I had as much an emotional reaction as you did to this scene, but at the same time watching yours, I was like: "Dude, you're turning purple! Breathe!!!" 😅

I've played some storydriven games, even MMOs. Let me tell you, good story in games is kinda hard to find (even harder in MMOs).
FF is one of these games that tell great story, has amazing soundtrack and beautiful scenery.

Also: watching your playthrough made me realize that Hades actually meant to save us if we were *worthy* of his sacrifice. He didn't kill our friends, he incapacitated them. Ryne's energy wouldn't be enough to help- you were either healed by killing him, or you would destroy the world. Hades had contingency plan on top of contingency plan.
Watching this over, and seeing it again made me bawl worse than experiencing it the first time xD This damn game man.

Honestly I found they way people hype up Shb makes it less impactful. It must have been amazing to play it 100% blind back at launch.

I can answer that easily. His people are dead and ours is still alive and kicking. They have more worthy of living just as much as the Amourotines. They dont deserve to be gased or to be used as a sacrifice to Zodiark.

aaaand he didn't mouse over the buff you receive after the light creates a barrier of buff after the QTE. Disappointing :(
most new players will never think of that, especially when your only focus is not dying to new mechanics. But didn't really lessen my experience. I love going back to check out these little details. It makes the replay value even better.
