Ohh! So appreciative, after all these years, what this man, and everyone who worked on this film did! Thank you, always.
Another great film from Mr. Hiller. Under- promoted, thrown out in February? Forty years ago, gay was @ 90% more of a "sssssh, hush" topic. " Making Love" had a fine script, with fine actors and was directed superbly. I would love to see the many other "takes" that Mr. Hiller references. (as I wld w/ many films). He is right, why does the question even come up that the characters are too smart, successful, " attractive"/ perfect. Yes, even way back in 1981there were echelons of all sorts. Mr. Sandler happened to write about smart, successful people that he either knew or chose to write about. These blasted critics - ie: Rex Reed, a syndicated "critic"who was demoted from one newspaper in NYC to another. Was so unjustly harsh, even reviewing the Oscars. Nasty just to be nasty. A failed extra in a few films, but "knew" ALL that there was to know. Even when I was 16, I wld read half of his "reviews" & say aloud " this dude is creepy & seemingly just dislikes himself. He's not even worth a mention here. Do catch " Making Love " if you haven't already! It was a gift to many closeted people and anyone who wanted to understand just a little more.
An upper middle class teen felt a great relief identifying with people that weren't caricatures that we always had to see. Yet, some so called critics had to treat this like "Norman, Is That You?".
You deserve a hug for those very fine words. Thank you.
Why isn’t Michael ontkean included in these reels?
I heard he decided to not involve himself with its legacy. I hope that is not true. I believe Making Love and Slapshot are some of his finest work.
