Wish someone had done this on the Beachburg sub through Algonquin Park back in the day. All the rides I had with my Dad on that old orange Fairmont motor car from Alice to Brent on the long weekends would have been a wonderful keepsake now. A GoPro strapped to the front of the motorcar would have got some nice video. It was all abandoned in 1995. Just a strip of slag through the bush now. Sad. It was the perfect short cut between North Bay and Ottawa. Now everything has to go through Toronto. Not a smart move by CN. Just memories now.
I rode in the cab of the Canadian between Dryden and Thunder Bay when it was owned by Canadian Pacific . The locomotive was an F9 I believe. The ride was very firm and uncomfortable. It felt like riding in a car with no shocks or no suspention. I had a sore back at the end of the ride.
Years ago, I worked at VIA on a job placement and got a few cab rides; I even got to start up the locomotives. Not many can say that, let alone a cab ride.
Talk about the right place at the right time. Thanks for sharing. Great guys on that route. In case others are curious for a bit of visual context, here's a drone perspective of the same train, different day and consist. ua-cam.com/video/95D5WhwPjz4/v-deo.html
Great Video. This is Via #2 departing Hornepayne, Ontario, Canada and travelling east bound over the CN Ruel Sub. Thanks for sharing!
I was gonna say that as soon as I saw the first signal’s milepost tag lol
What a once in a lifetime opportunity! Thanks for sharing it with us!

Excellent. Thank you.
Did you have block off radio chatter and HBD reports?
Great video
The audio is completely dubbed due to in cab conversation and the general privacy of the crew. Thank you!

Logical question
How much horsepower is behind me
6 to 9,000 hp
Second engineer is not too good at calling signals
The audio was 100% dubbed in this video. There is no cab audio.
