I never knew about the history of the Ainu people until recently amd I first saw this movie over 30 years ago. Definitely makes the story even more interesting.
This was my first real introduction to Japanese anime and as a kid it made a lasting impression on me. I remember having an English dubbed version that I had recorded off of TV, it was titled "Revenge of the Ninja Warrior" which is what I had known it by for literally decades until I found out the original title was Dagger of Kamui. HIGHLY underrated anime that should be ranked up there with the best. Would love to see this get a HD blu ray treatment
This is THE ONLY Anime in regards to see as epic struggle and well being of a Nation and all nation's for that matter!!!...Such s great film dare I say the greatest story wise and truth of any and all forms of government...All 3 hours was a true inspiration.Do sad the directors did not receive the credit for this great art and true story to boot.
This was one of my earliest starts to anime, there were a few others such as ; the animated hobbit, the two two towers, the return of the king, and there is another, but I can't think of the name. Also the last unicorn, and the flight of dragons. Such amazing memories and such amazing anime.
Freaking amazing been forgotten the name of the movie took a long time for me to find this movie i saw as a child. Now im gonna se it with my daughter.
lmao just watched this. it was good, but weird how the Japanese viewed america, like the black guy sam is a slave yet he is wearing casual clothes and a backwards hat, that made me laugh so hard, i just couldn't believe it. Also idk why but jiro's face just annoyed me, like all the other characters looked so cool but his face looked so out of place
The main character Jiro is voiced by a young Hiroyuki Sanada, best known for his badass roles in The Last Samurai, Rush Hour 3, 47 Ronin and Sunshine.
And legend of the eight samurais
... and Avengers: Endgame.
And soon to be Scorpion from Mortal Kombat.
That intro theme song is a fricken jam. Such an underrated anime film for so many reasons.

When something can stay in your mind for 25 plus years you know it is phenomenal.
So sad he killed his own dad. I remember this as a kid back in the 80s. I'm 41 now. So many beautiful memories

Thanks for telling me the other name. I'd also watched this in my youth, but had forgotten it until now.
What an introduction!
I got a new VCR recently, and have this playing in the background while I work. So many memories. "Rhythmless!"
