The talk about how great Angus was.....he was ok in my eyes but rotating the hosts is a genius idea, some better than others. Mangan, Jo Brand and even Boris Johnson have proven quite entertaining.
Stephen Fry is a rare guest because in 2003, after the Deayton scandal, Fry disagreed with the decision for Angus to step down so much he declared he wouldnt be appearing on the show ever again.
Dear me, this was almost a quarter of a century ago... Of course one easily recognises everyone's style and little mannerisms, but still, what a difference to their performances in 2016! Thank you very much for sharing!
@@MichaelBoogerd Well... with a different host each time, it can be hit and miss... there've been really great guest hosts, and a few that didn't work for me. I'd like to see Mr. Deayton return to Have I Got News For You because he was consistently great. Enough time has passed...
this is worthy of a relook. they packed a lot of clever banter in here,. And I'm sure, as an American born in the 70's, I'm missing a lot of pop references.
and if you've been around long enough you'll notice clothing and hair haven't changed much since 1980, Dockers and Polos vs Jeans and Tshirts. a serious societal rut.
today on ReWatch : Christmas'92. HighPoint, I was a hot fiduciary in a high end mutual fund house, raking in the bens, working with the latest communications and computer technology, 100 million dollar transactions, desk meals, 60 hour weeks, Oh Yeah! Good Times!!!
As much as love Stephen Fry, I think he was wrong in choosing not to appear on HIGNFY in support of Deayton. It showed a certain naivety on Stephen's part that he failed to see the effect that keeping Deayton would have on the show. The point of a weekly topical satire program is to make fun of what's been in the news, salacious revelations included. That point is blunted when the show's host is talking shit about other people as if he's beyond reproach.
I used to like Angus, many years ago. Not sure exactly when that changed, but it most definitely did. He's not really changed his public persona, so it must be me. A point must have been reached when his arch, smug, scripted condescension appeared to be his only gear.
Angus Deayton may appear more funny than he really is, after all he is only reading off a teleprompter. The show's rating went up when they ran random external hosts.
Doesn't strike me as very witty, just smutty double entendres. I personally found Angus Deayton smug and a bit painful. The show has definitely improved over the years since then.
This is very ancient. But the humour is juvenile and sexist, like a bunch of schoolboys. NOt nearly so well written as it is now. Angus Deayton creepy and smarmy as always.
James Butler: you’ve got to see the model airplane sketch he did with Hugh Laurie in a bit of Fry and Laurie. Or the language sketch. Both are very funny and do a lot of clever wordplay.
Wow, It's amazing how young John Cleese looked back then! Loved his "Angus" character!

It was a good decision. Angus is an awful host.
Yeah, quite, because previous to that, his appearances were quite common, totalling 3 in 13 years...
Angus was superb.
TheCandyVanC. Merton and Hislop were idiots even back then....thank God for Angus and Stephen Fry
Robert Hughes, You are the idiot and I don't think Fry would thank god for anything.
Relentless...love it!
They are sooo young!
Paul Merton's pokerface and his light speed wit are still amazing.
Brilliant show! Stephen Fry is as witty as ever and so handsome.

Sherry Miyano
this was a surprise pop up on my feed...thanks for sharing some of the best viewing on YT.
They're all so young and cute.
13:35....uh...how old is John Snow?? he got younger looking this 24 years on....
We were all young and cute.
@@equaliser2265 Speak for yourself, good sir! Although I was once young, I was never cute. My mother kept reminding me so.
>_
Including Ian Hislop???
@@RIXRADvidz That's not Jon Snow but Peter Snow who always used to do the election night coverage. They are cousins, I believe, but Peter is older.
Angus was a good host. Wish he still had a show.
RicAdbur Wel it’s the same script writers but the rotational hosts don’t have that same sharp delivery that he did

Great to see Stephen Fry. Such a shame he won't go on anymore since Angus was sacked.
i think the problem was more HOW that happened.
Gave me the lasting impression that Paul Merton is quite funny but a massive asshole given any chance.
Ouch, I remembered bits from this episode from seeing it in 1992, time flies ...
They all look so young... Stephen Fry like a teenager
Amazing to see Ian with hair!
Holy crap this show is old O_o That's amazing.
look at the chip board desk fronts.....like they weren't sure the show was going to run for 52 seasons.....
The Roman numerals at the end would suggest it was 1992.
Frank Skinner looks like the past version of himself he meets in Back to the Future. Seriously, it's even wronger than a young Ian Hislop.
Green Whovian or Ross is the only one with the balls to stay non-conformist despite possible loss of income
Yes Frank looks like he's auditioning for an episode of Happy Days! Lol
back when he was funny - the 90s
I get such a kick out of the interactions/repartee. Love it. Thank you for all the postings.
Stephen Fry is brilliant on this.
Neither the show nor the news has changed much in the last 25 years.
and if you've been around long enough you'll notice clothing and hair haven't changed much since 1980, Dockers and Polos vs Jeans and Tshirts. a serious societal rut.
Brexit and Trump are no different?
Stephen fry was still wearing the same jacket on QI over 15 years later.
Might be the same design but it definitely isn't the same jacket.
The weight changes alone prove that.
Wow, Paul Merton *really* hates Angus Deyton
YOUNG STEPHEN FRY!

Fry looks like he doesn't really think he deserves to be there.
Yes, he's wondering what he did wrong...
It's brilliant. Five men being witty. It just works and is 100 times better than most of the trash on TV these days.
11 seconds in, and oh my, the irony.
Amazing that Hislop is the youngest of everyone in this...
Tosh ! Hislop's never been young. Scurrilous gossip !
Fun Fact: Paul Merton insists on choosing his own ties from a small wardrobe selection.

Someone in the audience has an awesome laugh......

Great stuff!
Stephen Fry at his sardonic best.... brilliant 😎😎😎😎
So polite and goody 😙
watching history, its fun
Stephen is SO CUTE
I wonder if Skinner & Fry were off their faces for this?
Has Ian's team ever won? They snatched defeat from victory on this one.
Why did they book the Fonz?
Angus has got his Peewee Herman style dickiebow on.
A mistake letting Angus go, as too was Clarkson from Top Gear...
Ian Hislop & Stephen Fry in their 30s
Wow! They're all skinny and have hair!
Angus was the best , stuff the cocaine
Isn’t that Mike Pence at 15.22?
Angus Deayton may appear more funny than he really is, after all he is only reading off a teleprompter. The show's rating went up when they ran random external hosts.
21;23. Oh. Stephen, it's right under your nose alright, but that's not the same direction as looking directly ahead.
Stephen Fry was 35 here... acting like a 60 year old as usual
Roger the Hampster
is that someone that lives in Hampstead?

You are fucking joking arnt you, don't you like the offensive words and banter.?
Nice to not have any women gabbling.
even back then Fry wasn't funny.
only to the uneducated
Old Tofu
Heh heh heh x 😊😀
James Butler
Did you grow up in the UK?
Have you never seen
The young ones
Jeeves and Wooster
Blackadder
Fry and Laurie
And even The thin blue line 💚
Oxbridge people stick together...but Fry is an acquired taste.
