Its amazing the general public makes the assumption that the traffic signals are all about changing light bulbs. There are many components to a traffic signal system and when there is a failure in the system that puts a signalized intersection on red flash only a experienced and trained signal technician is able to troubleshoot and diagnose the cause of the problem whether it be software, hardware, wiring issues etc.

Traffic lights aren't the least bit complicated. My basement is full of them. Some I restored, others I left original. They are all wired, they all work in sequence. No apprenticeship required.

oh cool ,you know all about it . Let me ask you something. When an 8 phase intersection is on red flash due to the 210 watchdog receiving a 5 pps during reset without much traffic on your 4 and 8 phases what would you do first? keep in mind we already checked the police panel ,all neutrals are tight, no bleed from triacs on the 200's,nothing hit or smashed,the 170 just came back from the lab tested good.

4.5 years to get 8,000 OJT hours to be eligible to take the journeymen test. You do have to deal with burn outs, dark circuits, overloads, and basic electrical service. Running conduit, pulling conductors, install photocells, relays, contacts, services range from 120v - 480v. The signals is the same plus learning the programming inside a 170 or 2070 controller, understand 222, 224 cards, what a 252 or 242 isolater does, 210 conflict monitors, pma and VDC 206 ac/dc unit, also how to service repair a CMS, VDC 334/332 cabinets, what the upper lower files are, aux files, output file and how to wire up, just a little more then light bulbs... plus everything is LED now.
