    Thanks Keith. Excellent review.
    I've had a 300 for about a year and have not been disappointed with the results. I buy Canon inks (not 3rd party). I tend to print using Canon lustre paper in the main, which gives excellent print output... but, now I'm just about to experiment with rag and canvas papers. I rarely print B/W. I print at least once a week. I change inks when I'm told to.
    I use (Macs) and ethernet link and as you said, the setup (Network Address setup) is contrary and required a call to Canon support to figure out... and it is easy to unintentionally select the Air Print Driver which seems to be automatically chosen... requiring another call to Canon Support. I do not use Air Print. I do install profiles for new papers, but I do not use Custom Media Types (too advanced for me !).
    I edit using Capture One (which has an awful print controller) so I use the Canon Professional Print and Layout (PPL) software - which gives excellent control over the output. I couldn't justify the 1000 for the amount of printing I do (and the ink costs), the 300 is perfect for me.
    Thanks again.

    Using the nozzle check every couple of weeks is a top tip. I normally just print an image, but doing a nozzle check seems more efficient. :-)

      Yes - it's also designed to exercise parts of the printer a bit more, but mainly I note I can get 4 uses from a single A4 sheet of plain paper ;-)

    Using the print layout software with Canon papers in b/w mode I’m still getting a green colour cast. Despite all the you tube videos that assured me neutral mono prints were a doddle I’m using OEM inks. Sooo frustrating.

    Hi Keith! Just discovered your magnificent content, already have learned alot! So far i have just printed two test photographs on canon matte and pro platinum papers.
    Would you suggest a particular fine art paper that would work very well with pro-300? i shoot 135 and 120 film in black and white (mainly kodak 5222) and looking to sell framed prints in the future so finding a quality option paper is an important goal for me now.
    Thanks so much for these videos 🙏🤝

    Hi Keith, i love you youtube channel and work. Your vidoes are so helpful and and easy to follow. I bought the pro 200 printer and have been using my iPhone 12 Pro max for my shots to date. Im ready now to purchase a SLR. Could you reccomend a good entry level SLR to start with?. I would consider buying second hand. Thanks again!

      Thanks - I don't look at much beyond the Canon kit I use for my job (mainly because of the specialist tilt/shift lenses I use)
      So, although I've used the Nikon Z7 and a few other cameras (Hasselblad, Panasonic), they tend to be quite high end. For example, I've never tested any Fuji or Sony stuff, since I've never been asked and all my requests to look have got nowhere (I can't afford to buy things for testing).
      Second hand is a good option - In the UK I've had stuff (for my work) from MPB and Park cameras.
      Bearing in mind there are many many other options, I recently suggested a (second hand) Canon 800D and EF-S 15-85mm IS lens to someone, since the lens is listed at ~£800 and goes for ~£120-150 2nd hand. I've used one on a 100D for several years - it's vastly better than the standard 18-55 kit lens and gives a more useful wide view.
      Hope that's of some help - I just don't use a big enough range of cameras to give much more info

      @goodisoncelt 3 роки тому +1

      @@KeithCooper Hi Keith, Bleated thanks for your generous advice. I took the plunge and bought a pristine used Canon 800D with a bundle of accessories, tripod, bag, card etc for £340. It only has the 18-55 kit lens but it gives me time to get familiar with the functions while I'm on the look out for the EF-S 15-85mm IS lens you recommended. Once again thanks so much for your generous advice and your excellent videos. They're such a help for people starting off!

    Hi Keith
    After a few years away from photography I've recently got back in to it, and so looking for a printer I discovered your wonderful channel. Had the Pro-200 been in stock anywhere I might have plumped for that one but as a lover of black and white I'm kinda glad the lack of stock meant that I've just clicked the 'buy' button for the 300.
    Quick question if I may - can you recommend any specialist online stores for inkjet paper? Or indeed any website that can offer advice on different paper stocks?
    Thanks in advance and I'm looking forward to working my way through all your videos once my printer arrives.
    Cheers

    @paololarocca7684 3 роки тому +2

    thanks for the video, this is definitely an interesting product, but I have the impression that the usability of printers could be greatly improved; for one, it is not uncommon for photographers to go travel for several weeks (for example reportage or travel photographers ), what is it going to happen after 6-8 weeks of non-use? A printer of this calibre should be able to manage these situations, for example it should automatically engage a self cleaning process or an autonomous test printing at scheduled times. And about the icc profiles, couldn't that be more automated? for example a paper could have a qr code printed at the back that the printer reads when it is fed with that paper and automatically applies a standard icc profile for it, and finds it on the internet if it hasn't got it....sorry maybe I am talking garbage, just some thoughts....

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  3 роки тому +3

      Quite reasonable ideas, definitely not garbage!
      however... the better the printer you go for, the more frequently it needs using - this is not going to change appreciably with current technologies.
      I have regularly mentioned 'auto testing' to companies as a good thing to add - perhaps it will get through one day ;-)
      Codes on paper - not going to happen - first up I don't want anything not printed by myself on a print. Nor do I want to pay for the feature (on every sheet of a box?)
      It is however an option on some large format printers where rolls have codes printed on them when unloading for auto loading. As to 'standard profiles', this assumes profiles exist for printers/papers and that you don't want custom profiles. There is the option with the MCT for creating custom media typed and including a default profile.
      Sorry, there are 'simple' procedures, but they don't come with the quality you can get from knowing what you are doing ;-)

      My usual test is to query all aspects of your colour management (monitor and printer ICC profile) and to suggest printing a known good test image with something like the Canon PPL print software.
      Otherwise there are just so many variables that I couldn't say where to go

      Well it gets rid of the paper margin limits, and having a screen on the front is a vast improvement (IMHO), but if you get prints you like from the 10, there is not much difference.

    Keith, my Pro-300 is starting to leave ink lines on the back of some papers., after some 1200 prints. i noticed jthe sponge pads inside on the left side appear saturated with waste ink, (where the lines appear on the paper). Does this mean the printer is full of waste ink, and since there is no maintenance cart needs to be serviced, or replaced?
    Thanks, David

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  9 місяців тому

      I didn't think the waste ink went there. It does sometimes print in that area if using just one colour, but I never noticed a build up?
      I'd suggest asking on the printing forum at DPReview.com - several people using PRO-300s there, with a lot more printing than I did during my review

      Ah ... Define "fine art'? It's a purely marketing term that means something slightly different to everyone who has ever asked me (and my own definitions depend on the weather)
      However, I'm afraid I never ever compare between makes - read my main (written) P700 and PRO-300 reviews, since they usually have more information and detail than any video. Then if you've specific queries about them (I still have both here) let me know?

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  3 роки тому +1

      Whilst I have a longstanding policy of never comparing brands, it's easy to note they are addressed at two very different markets. It's pigment vs dyes (or mostly dyes) and ink cart/tank capacity
      I will have an 8550 vs P700 video some time over Christmas which should go some way as a proxy for what you're asking, but the differences are pretty much what you'd expect depending on what features matter to you.
