its sad what happened to him but those guys were ready to kill him that day even if he could have went straight to the car. Those guys had blocked his car. I think him standing there for some time saved his friend's lifes cuz if they shoot him while he was in the car more tha 2 people whole have died that day before the were going to fire more shoots to make sure he is dead.
