Despite its jank, despite I've played other MMORPGs for way longer. This will remain my favorite MMORPG of all time. This theme still gives complete goosebumps.
This game, the stories, the puzzles, the riddles. Its to bad that not more people want to see this hidden beauty. It is as well my favorite MMORPG of all time. The depth, the big brain puzzles (from latin to music notes or ancient sumerian to street language, etc). But also the combination of lovecraft, stephen king, Carl Jung psychology, rl occult manifesting directly, to secret organisations hidden in plain sight and many more aspects, it is my unconsciousness, shadows, points of integration, but also enlightened points and consciousness being made. Maybe... just maybe this game came out too early and will be more perfect for VR when VR is far enough, i really hope someone would make it then. There is too much in this game, that is so hidden, so many hidden meanings and symbols presented with the complete essence of psychodrama as la Vey has meant it or the higher level of magic presented as Crowley would have been proud of, yet being a hero or true magician like Franz Bardon. Mystifying Tesla and using his way of thinking, there is just so much if people saw how many aspects this game truly has. This is something from the collective unconsciousness that mankind in this day and age fears... But i am willing to go past beyond the fear and see what is beyond death. Because that is the only way to become truly alive.
You must be high level... have intellectual brain for to love this game. It is philosophic. Most of human population are braindead sheeps, so thats why underrated...
The world design was pretty good. The game mechanics were overly complicated, with far too many abilities to split skill points into (making individual skills feel weak and kind of irrelevant), and quest design was mostly horrible. Overall, it felt like a bunch of people playing a really repetitive single-player game on the same map, not like an actual MMO where players inhabited a shared world. They probably could have made it a decent single-player game, if instead of wasting time with the (pseudo) "MMO" parts they'd just spent more time playtesting it.
Man I remember playing the beta and the first week this launched. It was so atmospheric, moody, grundy and modern. People were running around everywhere and the New England area actually frightened me. I remember using the ingame browser and either Firefox/Chrome to search google for answers to pass some quest. This game was truely magical.
I was in the press beta for 'reasons' and yeah secret world remains one of my favorite games of all time. just the fantastic writing alone. Sure its janky, sure its dated now, but theres nothing else like it. I guess control comes close?

Imagine this game being a tv show on HBO with the starting theme as this song
Would gladly watch this. Would be like game of thrones in the intrigue with tons of supernatural and preternatural threats. You could even include a normie in the bunch, like an investigative tabloid reporter, so that the audience could experience the secret world opening up before them
Listening to this literally feels exactly how the game itself start: You are just thrown out there with magic powers, with barely any explanation on what has happened. And you just gotta figure out all the secrets by yourself.
This was a game saved for only sunny days and full lights in the apartment. I had a notebook just for it and loved every moment playing it even if I didn't get too far before they nuked it. I miss this game.
2022. Been hyped about this game since high school in 2012, played it in 2015, then again after the change to Legends in 2017-2021. Managed to complete it and put it down. This game has a nostalgic and unique feeling like no other despite its issues. I have a lot to complain about but I enjoyed it a lot, and wish FunCom, or someone more worthy tbh would pick it back up and give it life again. They did TSW dirty.
I dont understand what the complains i love this game so much and I wouldn't change it on anything tbh is my favorite mmo, BUT I want to know the feedback of older players what did change, and what happened that people don't like it anymore?
@@wanderlustoceans8205 well, when they swapped to legends they changed many things, the way some weapons worked, their monetization tactics, the way the story went/felt (this im taking from some old friends of mine I haven't touched legends), along with that previous notes heard it crashed a bunch and is super laggy. It really just seemed like a shame what they did to it. I'm not sure if it's still up but a little while back they had a digital copy of the original game for sale on gamestops website. The only downside to that is that there is almost nobody on anymore, the servers are just on maintenance mode.
@@wanderlustoceans8205 ^ This ^ (What Ethan Nagy responded above.) There were good and bad changes, but all in all, at the end of the day, the game was abandoned and put down a bad monetization path, along with time and age showing big time. Lack of players. They cared so little for optimizing this game. I had friends who had to quit because of incompatibility and crashes. I myself still go back to it from time to time, because it's unlike no other mmo I've played, and still remains dear to me. But I truly wish it got a revival and the attention it deserves.
This game had great potential but somehow it run like shit on my computer (more demanding games were running flawless) bought a new gfx card just for this game and guess what? it run worse lol

Extremely underrated MMO, in my opinion.

This NEEDS to happen.
It's quite similar to some pieces from "Dexter", namely the "blood theme".
Crypt TV is the closest you can find to this game and it's so damn good.
Chills already just from reading this.
That would be so dam good!

The most amazing MMO ever created. Whate they do to it its a shame. RIP TSW. We will remeber you.
Getting my character hard reset with Legends broke the game for me. I can't begin to comprehend what they were thinking.
ITS BACK
@@re4p What?

One of my favorite OSTs out there. Haunting and powerful.
This is the definition of intriquing soundtrack. You can literally picture a vast world opening in front of you as you listen :D
Very well said. So true.
56 years old and this song is the most perfect theme/intro song for a game ever. hope they use it for the tv series (if it happens) :)
wait what is the name of this track?
@@Quintega i have no idea. im guessing it was written for the game
The best MMO I ever played. A little masterpiece
What a fantastic setting.
1:14 something about this part of the theme reminds me of "In a house, In a heartbeat" XD
I must agree.
I knew that part sound familiar. Could not think of the song name at the time.

1 person couldn't stand to live in a Secret World.
needed to go back to their safe space >_
Admit it. You searched for it.
everyone should
In a Land before Time, when there where epic main themes.

ARE U!??!?!?!?!?, I would LOVE to go back! my neph and myself actually
That one dislike is really irritating
This is too good
Wish someone would put this on loop
Fantastic theme. Gutted at what they did to this game.
Best game EVER

Still my answering machine main theme : )
The best game ever is dead. I keep asking myself why for years.
Money.
@@celestar340 Definitely. Legends is a total POS. They obliterated the game changing the core of the mechanics.

Ever since they released TSW Legends the performance went down the toilet. But it used to run well.
