This is a bitter sweet movie for me because I lost my big sister many many years ago. We use to talk how we would be two old ladies sitting on the porch in rocking chairs. Now I'm old and everyone in my family has passed on and there is no one to sit on the porch with me. Every now and then I talk to my sister and tell her "I'll see you one day again."
Thank you for posting this movie. 🙂
Where do you live Tamara? I would love to hug you and sit with you. You are lovely.
I know how you feel. 🥺
I have no doubt you will see her again… and you’ll have eternity to enjoy each other’s company. The blessing that comes from loving someone and enduring this life.
That is sweet
What this film thought me is that we have lost those beautiful manners, the importance and dignity we used to give to little events, little ceremonies of life, which ask for energy and care: lunches, evenings out, anniversaries. Him coming in a suit with flowers, Sarah remembering the anniversary of her marriage... Memories...
Lilian Gish was 93 when she played this role. Bette Davis was 78.
This very meaningful movie (for various reasons) made in 1987 and to think that Bette Davis passed two years later (age 81) shows her tremendous acting abilities. I read her authobiography and she is my favourite actress ever. Her last movie was Wicked Stepmother in 1989 working to the very end of her life. Lillia Gish lived a long life to 99 years of age passing in 1993 the same year as Vincent Price. The Whales of August was the last movie she acted in. Thank you very much for uploading the movie !!
What a perfect gem of a movie, thank you so much. I thought Lilian Gish was brilliant, utterly convincing. The whole picture is a work of art, so very atmospheric, reminded me of summer holidays on Cape Cod.
These iconic actors were already ancient relics when I was just a child. Now, I'm 75 years old watching myself in them as I too begin to fade away. What a good movie .. leaves me to 'think on these things' 🕊
yes
I too feel this way, more and more every day. Not sure how I like it! What I do love about this film is that it reminds me of my aunties! They were lovely women, of that generation.
well I'm 30 now and a new mom but I keep wondering how does it feel when one approaches that age when we have to face the inevitable...when my mom and dad would be long gone and I'll not have any old tree for shelter rather will be an old tree which will be expected to provide shelter...I keep on having panic attacks imagining my end but I just can't imagine how it'll be...
I've lost one sister. She doesn't want me in her life anymore. I miss her so. But my other sister is with me. Im grateful she's in my life. ❤ thank you for this !
Same. I do y really miss the one who decided she hated us all including her own daughter.
Same. She hasn’t spoken to any of us for about five years now. I miss my little sister. 😔
I lost 1 sister to cancer and one that just doesn’t like me.Never did anything to make her feel that way.But I am thankful I still have my youngest sister. We are close. We are both in our 50’s.
Oh my heart goes out to you, I know how hard this is!!@@sharong8511
Pray…. It works
Lillian Gish was a beautiful talented actress ,,,,,,she was brilliant ♥️
I loved to see people just chilling and having "a cup of tea"😊
Good to see two great actresses, ageing gracefully, & looking their age and not Botox & filler ruining their looks we all grow old and it’s healthy to embrace it, growing old is a gift that only some can appreciate.
Peaceful, melancholic, gentle (I'm 81). Made all the more wistful by the cast.
Lillian was 93! Love to know her secret.
No bangs, no shoot ups no truth-twisting. What a change.
All my sisters are gone to be with the Father But it was so good having them in my life
Hugs
💜
That was sweetly said💕
You are very sweet not all sisters are like you.😊
God bless you!@@lunakat7020
how relations have changed. Imagine, having a disagreement without yelling or name calling. Getting your point across and letting go of the hurt in the same moment. If only everyone was so honest, empathetic and mindful enough to not only read a room but not be offended by it. If only more people admired and perfected these skills. Emotional intelligence.
💜
I do enjoy movies featuring older people it gives a completely different vibe than most of the modern movies. So wonderful to see Vincent Price again.
Beautiful film about family, memories, faithfulness and love - and about old age, which gives them all their real value...
Such a treat. Transported me to another world. Great to see these iconic actors in their later years. Thank you!
This is such a beautiful film, you forget that you are watching people who were truly screen legends. Bette Davis, Lillian Gish, Vincent Price, and Ann Southern and Harry Carey Jr. They are all just marvelous and this wonderful story is truly worth the watching.
A simple & pleasant movie about everyday life, not overly-dramatised, and quite a relief. Sweet, and even a touch of elegance every so often. So glad it was made and there ought to be more like these 💚💛💜🧡💙 The setting on the water is very serene and eloquent on the simplicity of natural life.
A very good friend of mine worked on this movie she told me how terrible Betty Davis was to Lillian she was very cruel to the lovely lady even though I know a lot of things about this movie I do love it still
What a beautiful, understated film this is, so simple but encapsulate so much about a life time. At first I was like this film is just about nothing then it changed to being about everything. I love it, it actually makes me look forward to being old.
When you are old, really old, the only decent comfort is that which is found in fond memories. Some of my favorite players. It's refreshing to see them playing their age instead of having to use stage make-up. Bon voyage, 💋, one and all. As long as I am alive, I shall have fond memories too.
Age 81 # my memories are of much later date 20
I didn't recognize Bette Davis at first but I did recognize her voice. Lovely story
Me too. I had to look up the cast. Such a wonderful film.
Love Bette Davis the actress such an extraordinary career she has had
Life become harder as I aged, therefore, like the sisters, I reminisce about life and the bygone days.
This is such a great movie, and I’m pretty sure it’s the last movie for both Betty Davis and Lillian Gish. For that matter it could’ve been for Ann southern and Vincent price too for all I know. My sister and I are pretty close but don’t live near each other. I hope when the time comes and we’re at that age, we could be together like this.
How about Harry Carey Jr. for added comic relief? Excellent cast & movie!
That unmistakable voice of Betty Davis. 🥰. Sad and beautiful movie
That was a most delightful movie. I’ve never seen this one with Betty Davis.
This movie is from 1987. Bette Davis 1908-1989. Lilian Gish 1893-1993. Vincent Price 1911-1993.
Lillian Gish brilliant actress
This house is in my dreams. The blueberry bushes, the fishing and crabbing. Watching whales.
These dear elderly actors had still got it.👏
I don't why iam crying, I really envy these two ladies. Iam just 20 odd minutes into this movie, and it is wonderful. Thank you for uploading it.
I am lucky to have sisters and brothers and though we live on 3 different continents, we keep in touch very regularly. I cannot imagine myself without them
I absolutely love Bet Davis, this was one of her last films with the great Lillian Gish and Vincent Price. Bet Davis was a wonderful actress they dont make them like Bet Davis anymore she was so truthful maybe my wife was one of the last 😂
I have this film on dvd i taped it on VHS in 1994.
Please watch this film its touching its about old age and how we handle it . Some wait for it others just keep going to the END i am the latter 😂 i still have 40 years left ❤.....i hope 😅
🔥🔥🆙️
Thanks for these old movies which reserve our old happy time and our beautiful past that we could forget as time goes by!
They don't make movie's like that anymore the old ones are the best. Beautiful scenery great acting.💐🌹👏
Two wonderful acctresses. Lillian Gish must have been 94 when she acted this. Amazing!
Charming movie reminds me of my grandma Jackson and her mulberry tree her garden was her pride and joy
A adorable heart warming classic movie. My how times have changed, most now don't enjoy their time with leisure and laughter. Beautiful ole cottage home by shore. Thank you for sharing...
What a cast, and Vincent Price fishing in a bow tie.!😂
Sometimes I wish I could project through the screen and sit down in their house and look at the pictures and all their nic ~nacs. Then wander around the garden smelling the flowers, and then go back in and have a nap. Great movie! Sad they are all gone now. ✌❤
Through the gloomy silence and the falling snow
Comes a plaintive echo from long ago; “wait for me” it’s calling in a childish tone.
And I slack my footsteps till they match her own.
Life brings many changes with the passing years
Sunny days and shadows;joys and bitter tears,
And my cry goes wringing forth to Heavens gate,
“Wait for me, dear sister, just a little, wait”
“Reverse”- by Isobel Anderson. Written for her sisters.
💜
Thank you. This is lovely.
Lovely movie. I could live in that house forever.❤
where in Maine.......? I live in Maine !!!
So a beautiful and gentle film...Truly a delight for the soul!
Truly a memorable movie. Very special actors.❤️❤️❤️
I saw this movie back in the day when it came out mostly because I was a fan of old movies and their stars ever since I was a kid. Now I am an adult I can understand it and relate more to the characters.
Gotta love the cast on this movie. A great story and a feeling of commitment
👑 Charles ( & Princess Diana ) arrive to the film premier of "The Whales of August" at Cannes Film Festival 1987.
Before the movie began, met with some of the film’s stars, Bette Davis and Lillian Gish.
2 amazing ladies! Amongst the best actors ever!
Where is this house I'd love to live there the rest of my life! 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗❤
A great movie to me now that I am 71.
Lillian Gish, Bette Davis and Vincent Price! Omg!
John McCormack singing "Roses of Picardy"......beautiful!!
Thank you for this fact, I have watched this movie 75 times and I was always stumped about that....
@@sandyallessandrini5546 You're very welcome!!! He was one of the greatest and most distinctive singers in recorded history!!
I have a sister who is 11 months younger we are close, I have a younger sister who doesnt talk to me I wish had a relationship before time slips away..❤
I have a younger sister and she don’t want me in her life anymore. Is painful 😣
Same here..
the quietness of life thats so lost now
Oh no...not in New England, my
Soul's Home.
OH i agree with you... I think i'm going to make an effort to bring it back into my life... thats Vincent Price the fisherman isn't it? And is that Maggie Smith??
My thoughts exactly. 😊
Vincent price played the part of a nice old gentleman
One thing you want never to have in the Record is preventing other people to be kind. Life is only about love, and that's tough, no matter wheter one's is got a tender hearth or a iron cast Head.
Well, I guess my boyfriend's mom and sister failed miserably when they didn't allow me to come to his funeral. (Because they had never met me.😢)
He would have been hopping mad to witness it.
I guess somewhere down the line they may be crisscrossed the same.
"Never exclude people from a wedding or a funeral."
I know my comment has nothing to do with this movie, but I really miss him.. Thank you all for listening.

@@PlatinumIrishrose My respectfull condolences, dear Lady. It is a shame and a pitty that things should come to that. Yet, I'd like to encourage you to forgive both relatives of your deceased beloved one, not only for your own sake, but also for his too. There are thing humanly impossible, but there is also God. Put your sorrow in his hand and offer It as a sacrifice. It is as simple as a prayer. I said simple, but I did not say easy. God bless.
Thank you for uploading this beautiful film. I enjoyed it immensely. The feel of times past with the quiteness and respect the characters have for one another even when there is tension. Also the unforgettable Vincent Price character who was the "the last person in the world to bow" was wonderful. ❤
This picture always makes me love my sisters even more; as if it was possible, ...indeed.
Betty used to vacation at the end of my road in Yarmouth Maine
I have always wanted to SEE Maine, but don’t relish being around the people from Maine. Supposed to be a beautiful area, though,
Wow, what's of the past , Vincent Price, Betty Davis and Gish, 🥰
So glad this came up in my recommends. Such wonderful acting and beautiful snapshot of days gone by and sisterly love.
Beautiful and very touching movie Thank you and God bless you ❤
no adds now and a delightful, slow and gentle film.
Ghastly Realtors, Politicians, Bankers & Car Salesmen make my skin crawl. Thanks for the movie.
Ann Sothern was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar Nomination for this film. She should have won.
Harry Carey Jr. and Vincent Price are great actors too.
I like that idea. Red and white Roses. AND I thought yellow for friendship. But realized passion and truth so true all you need. For all aspects of life and spirit.
You are astute and Kind
Keep a spirit to share with all.
I remember two sisters bought an island in Cornwall they had many adventures it cost them £25000 pounds they loved the island sadly one died she was from epsom in Surrey so the other sister carried on and wrote a book about the island
I stayed opposite the island a few years ago and was so enchanted by it I bought the book. Fabulous read x
A nice story of two elder sisters walking out the latter years of their life together. A very pleasant movie.
An absolute film treasure! One of my favorites 😍 Thank you for uploading!
I loved this movie very much. The atmosphere in this movie was mesmerizing. Thank you for sharing.
Loved this movie. Bette Davis is one of my fav actresses.
I loved both Bette Davis and Lillian Gish, Lillian Gish was also excellent in " The Night of the Hunter" with Robert Mitchum.
@compsciguy Yes, that is the one! Robert Mitchum played that role so good
Extraordinary movie. One of my favorites and thank you for bringing it to the forefront.
Beautiful movie with two great ladies of cinema. THANK YOU!
What a lovely picture. Thanks for posting.
One of my favorite movies.
I loved this movie but then I'm 85 years old and my sister is 86 years old. I've lived 23 years beside Nisswa Lake with a picture window and my sons loved to fish. With the rush rush of daily living the slowing up of age is comforting.
I'm 46 and also loved this movie. Sweet times.
Oh that's Vincent price, I watched his movie when I was a kid, now I'm 56 good movie.
LOVELY, REFRESHING MOVIE. WISH I COULD WATCH MORE LIKE THIS ONE. LOVE THE LOCATION SO VERY PRETTY.
Remember the movie many many years ago, where Bette Davis said, Fasten Your Seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy ride. Got to love Davis, or not. Lillian Gish was sweetheart.
I for one love her in movies
What a wonderful film & Betty Davis was just as radiant as in her early career.
Reminds me of my Aunt's old cottage in Enfield. Long gone.
It`s a great pleasure to watch such films! Thank you ever so much!

Bette is extraordinary, beautiful.
It's all about the view, enjoyable movie.
