Wow! No matter how obscure or specific a problem is, there is always an answer on the Internet,! My trashcan exhibited the same exact behavior, and had hairline cracks in the same exact places as in this video. Thank you so much for the video! It really was perfect!
Thank you!! My bin had the exact same problem and I managed to fix it using your method. Simple Human don't sell the replacement pedal section... can't imagine why 😂
Than you for this video. I had the exact same symptoms, followed your video and discovered exact same cause of issue. I did similar fix using plastic welder gun using hot nails.
Bro thank you so much! Also, I’m so pissed that my $120 trash can didn’t even last 5 years and then simplehuman doesn’t sell replacement parts and make their “lifetime warranty” almost impossible to use.
No idea what’s wrong with mine but it’s similar to this. I’ve taken it all apart and can’t figure it out. The bar works when I push it by hand, but once I put the trash can down and try the foot pedal… nothing. It doesn’t budge. But if I lift the lid and then push the pedal, it stops the lid from going down. It just won’t push it up at all. 🤷🏻♀️ I’m about to take it apart again and double-check for cracks. It’s all I can think of! Thank you for this! Especially for the soldering part - I never would’ve thought of that and I have one in my closet!
Im experiencing the same problem but have the double sided can with the recycling bin, I’ll have to do some more troubleshooting to find out why the lid isn’t opening properly.
@@JohnWolaninsomehow the back left corner of the lid is rubbing against the frame which is partially the culprit, I also believe the step pedal itself is damaged. You’d think this brand would have better build quality for the price.
Note: Some of the recent model have removed the screw at the pedal! You now can't look inside to figure out the cause of the lid not opening properly...
+1 to this, this makes me feel that simplehuman intentionally reduced the repairability of this product. For me I was just trying to fix the squeaky sound, so I have to spray wd40 all over the place. Luckily this still fixed the problem.
Thanks, but no way could I do this but kudos to those who can. My trash can is the "open can" voice command type and it is only opening 3/4 of the way. I can unplug it, put my hand over the sensor wait 2 min then plug back in and it works! Unfortunately minutes to an hour later it is back to not opening up all the way.

Worked like a champ! Many thanks for the straight forward instructions and not leaving anything out.

Great video thanks for explanation and showing tools. I have a older different model but this video helps immensely with repairing.

thank you for this video! Also fyi I found that the step cans have a 10 year warranty. I had the same issue and customer service was awesome!
@@idamariebanquerigo5987 did you have to have the receipt?
