1) The batteries it comes with has now lasted for me since in installed in March, so 8 month, and im still at 40%, and everything set to "max" (lowest update time, and max quality so there is no option that could drain more battery. 2) Perhaps your surface was not clean ? - or you were unlucky .... because mine is sticking there like it was screwed in, and I know it is sticking good because I tried to pull it off. ONLY bad thing i can say is 1) i would wish I could get the live via batteries, 2) the screw for changing batteries should be in the bottom NOT on one of the sides where it could be impossible to access (like mine)

Can an Apple Home automation be created that triggers when the Aqara doorbell is rung? Or is the only option to trigger an automation when the Aqara doorbell detects motion? If only the latter is possible, then can the field be limited so only someone directly in front of the doorbell camera is detected?

Let's say someone goes with rechargeable batteries, and also delivers power to the doorbell. Do you know if the doorbell will charge the batteries? Let's say that every day the doorbell loses power for a full hour. Will you eventually have to remove the batteries to recharge them, or will the doorbell recharge them during the 23 hours that it does have power? Another question goes with the rechargeable batteries vs temperature. It seems to me that rechargeable batteries drain faster in cold weather (0-20ºF) vs more pleasant weather (60-80ºF). If you do *not* deliver power to the doorbell, will the rechargeable batteries drain at a faster rate during winter?
I haven’t tested the rechargeable batteries with the doorbell powered by wiring YET. I wanted to get a true test of battery life first. But it’s next up as far as testing goes, because I’m curious about the same. I also have the same concerns about the weather & the rechargeable batteries, but we’re actually in the midst of some nice weather here in Nebraska, so I haven’t been able to get a true test of that either. Great review George. I currently use all Eufy Cameras. The door bell I have with Eufy isn’t homekit certified, so I had to add it via homebridge. May look into this one considering I use a ton of Aqara products within homekit.
I currently have one Eufy hardwired doorbell at the front door, but not bridged to my Apple HomeKit. We do have ave two wired doorbells out front but not at our back door. Would you find installing a hybrid hardwired/battery system, with a battery powered DB at the back door would still be worth it from an Apple mindset? TIA George. Greatly appreciate your videos and reviews and experience.
Great detailed review of this doorbell - I ordered one last night, and have been watching reviews. I've been suffering a Ring video doorbell 2 through Scrypted and it constantly drops offline. I have plenty of 12V plugpacks from WD Elements drives so I think I'll put a 612G SD card in the chime and run a wire to the doorbell from the kitchen to the doorbell.
I wanted to get this because of the HomeKit secure video, but since you also set this up through the Aqara app, does the data also go through Aqara’s servers, including for facial recognition?
Great video! If you have an apartment with a garage door, would you add this by the garage as a “proactive” approach? Along with having another by your front door?

There really isn’t a good “wired garage door camera”. My recommendation will always be a wired NVR system (my go to brand is Alibi) and placing one of those cameras inside your garage.
@@GeorgeLangabeer thank you very much. I have the Eufy dual camera doorbell which works great but I can only view via the eufy app. No biggie just would like everything in one place. Thanks again for the videos.
@@GeorgeLangabeer ended up returning my G4, battery was awful as kept recording ‘loitering’ every minute.. no change of settings would fix. Returned to my Ring.. if only they had a HomeKit support! 😬
New doorbell. Have yet been able to activate steam & record to HKSV. I've tried batteries only, hard wire power only, and both. Firmware is current at 4.04. MacOS, iOS, AppleTVOS and homepod mini OS are all current. I've removed and reset the device a few times. I've added it with the app that launches HomeKit and just the Aqara app first and then HomeKit. I've tinkered with different detection settings. I do know HKSV works for me as I have an iCloud 2TB plan and can stream a Wyze camera with RSTP through Scrypted. But I'd rather drop the server running Scrypted, so I am hoping to get this setup working. Any other suggestions for troubleshooting beyond what I have have tried? Any setting I may have missed? I also sent a support request to Aqara.
Weird. I’ve installed several of these now with no issue. Sorry to hear you’re having such a rough go of it. Wish I had a better suggestion for you, but it sounds like you’ve covered all your bases. Here’s hoping they get back to you & have a solution.
Technology. I left the device on/enabled over night. I went back to try changing the setting the stream & record, and it finally held. No other changes made.@@GeorgeLangabeer
I got Aqara G4 doorbell but pity no automation available in HomeKit when doorbell pressed to allows HomeKit light accessories light up. The only automation is motion detection. In Aqara app the automation have doorbell button pressed but no HomeKit accessories only Aqara brands. So technically not integration each other yet.
Plenty of integration. You can still get announcements on your HomePods (or Minis) & you can still get pop ups on your Apple TV. That’s all i really need for my Doorbell as far as HomeKit goes.
@@GeorgeLangabeerI have a Skybell HD video doorbell which I bought because they said will be Homekit compatible (it’s even written on the box). I have a chime connected to it. So if I replace it with the Aqara Video doorbell the chime will still work?
I have a problem installing the doorbell on the Aqara application. Just after the message “doorbell added to my home” I receive the error message “fails read/write operation. 74”
the aqara service found the error and the solution. My doorbell was not located in the same house as my apple hub. the doorbell therefore could not connect to the same wifi as the hub. it was therefore simply necessary to create another home in the HomeKit application
Of the options you mentioned, I would say Eufy. But my recommendation will always be a good wired NVR system. My brand of choice is Alibi. But to get something good, that will last, isn’t necessarily going to be cheap. You get what you pay for when it comes to security cameras.
We’re going to Nassau. As a thank you for working thru Covid, Lowe’s gave all their store managers a trip for two, pretty much anywhere we wanted to go. Theresa has since moved on to their corporate HR, but she used to run a store. Really nice of Lowe’s to do that. We were supposed to go this past December but had to postpone because of my diagnosis. We’re stoked to finally go!
@SilverHammerSurveillance What is a good option to capture events/alerts further than 15ft away? Most cars sitting in the driveway are further out than 15ft. I have a doorbell camera, but it's not very helpful for motion detection other than a few ft from the door.
Trust me, there’s no “keep walking quietly” about it. It’s loud enough to freak out the thief and alert your neighbors. When it comes to video doorbells, the plain fact is, they are all easy to steal or destroy. There’s no way around it. This is the only one I’ve tried that really tries to be proactive about it. That’s all you can ask for.
While I initially had high hopes for the Aqara Doorbell G4, I've unfortunately experienced significant connectivity issues. Despite troubleshooting and support assistance, the problem persisted, leading me to switch to a more reliable alternative. Regrettably, I cannot recommend this product based on my experience.
I'm going the opposite direction. Logitech's Circle View camera simply will not work where I live. I've seen several discuss the camera's tendency to overheat if it gets direct sunlight. Our house faces East, but it has a porch roof, so the doorbell would only receive direct sunlight for about two hours first thing in the morning. Should be okay, right? Nope. Just after 7am, the doorbell camera goes offline to cool down. After about 15 minutes, it comes back on. Then, it goes off after about 15 minutes, etc. By 10am it's in the shade and works for the rest of the day. The bigger issue is the camera is only rated to work up to 40 degrees European, which translates to 104 degrees American. I live in the Phoenix area. The high temperature in these parts is routinely above 105 for much of June, July, August, and September. It just won't work in this area -- unless you're willing to go without a door bell for a third of the year. Even if you could live with the camera taking a break now and again, the Circle View still wouldn't make sense. When the camera goes offline, the door bell won't ring!
Dear friend, I have the switchbot lock with the first-generation hub. I consider replacing the hub to the second generation Hub2 for adding my switchbot lock support to the apple home support. Also, I interested buying Aqara G4 Doorbell (which is also support the Apple home) My question is if I can combine both products to work together ??? I mean, the moment someone rings the Aqara G4 Doorbell, I will be able to get notification from the apple home app, watch the G4 camera & on the same Apple screen app to open the switchbot lock for opening the door ? I watched the Aqara promotional video and saw that there is an option on both Aqara products (Aqara lock u200 & Aqara G4 Doorbell). Here's the Aqara promotional video, at the 16-second mark ua-cam.com/video/lWadY9hohJA/v-deo.html I'll be glad if know what you think about my idea Shlomi
What are you talking about? Who said 1080 is better than 2K? Who got paid? Me? I didn’t get paid for this video…I’m glad you think you’re funny, but really you’re just confusing.
Just watched your video. Never heard of Agora until today with your video.. I'm hoping to make a decision to buy a video doorbell by Prime Day July 11th and 12th of this year. You mentioned Apple TV all the time in the video. I don't have an Apple phone or any other Apple products or echo or dots. I have an Android phone. My question is will this work stand alone without any other security devices and with an Android phone? I also like that this does not require a subscription where a person has to depend on the monthly service that they can raise price at anytime. And one can record to a SD card locally. I might be a minority but I don't Trust or use the cloud in any form for anything.. And would rather keep everything local
Yes, that’s one of the benefits of Aqara. Their stuff works with all platforms. You won’t have as many benefits or be able to use all the features, but yes, it works with just a phone.

Just became a subscriber not too long ago but keep on fighting!!! My mom battled breast cancer and is currently cancer free and currently my mother-n-law is fighting as well. LOVE THE ATTITUDE…YOU WILL WIN!!! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 Had have a great vacation 🌴🏝️🍹
So happy to hear that about your mom & I wish the best for your mother-n-law! We’ll all kick it’s ass together! 🙏🏻❤️💪🏻
Thank you!
Which wired garage door security camera do you recommend?
There really isn’t a good “wired garage door camera”. My recommendation will always be a wired NVR system (my go to brand is Alibi) and placing one of those cameras inside your garage.
I have a question. With “matter “ will we be able to use other doorbells , cameras etc with home kit? Thanks for the video.
Eventually. Cameras unfortunately aren’t included in Matter yet. But once they are, it should open up compatibility.
@@GeorgeLangabeer thank you very much. I have the Eufy dual camera doorbell which works great but I can only view via the eufy app. No biggie just would like everything in one place. Thanks again for the videos.
You’re welcome & thanks for watching!Someday we’ll get everything in one place. 🙄
Amen to that. Lol.
Do we think HKSV will ever move to support 4K?
I sure hope so.
"up to 4 month" - i installed mine 2023-03-23 - and i still have batteri at 40% - and yes Worning mode is :Normal mode
Thanks for sharing!
Can the recording works together with both sd card and home kit secure video?
Yes it can. But HKSV will only be events, not 24/7. The Aqara app can do 24/7 if the doorbell is wired.
Does the G4 work with my existing chime?
If it’s wired, yes. On battery, no.
That’s odd. I personally haven’t encountered that message. Did you call Aqara Support?
the aqara service found the error and the solution. My doorbell was not located in the same house as my apple hub. the doorbell therefore could not connect to the same wifi as the hub. it was therefore simply necessary to create another home in the HomeKit application
May God bless youbwith good health
Thank you! Doing great. Just hit 14 months cancer free! 🙏🏻
@@GeorgeLangabeer glad to hear that thanks for wonderful video just bought the aqara doorbell after watching your video was very detailed and helpful
what brand of camera do you recommend for beginners who are on a budget. Lorex, Nightowl, Eufy????? I don't know where to start.
Definitely not Lorex or Night Owl. Are you looking for outdoor or indoor?
@@GeorgeLangabeer outdoor. why not forex I have been hearing a lot of good reviews. but please let know. you're the expert
Lorex is cheap junk with no customer support.
@@GeorgeLangabeer what do you recommend for a beginner on a budget
Of the options you mentioned, I would say Eufy. But my recommendation will always be a good wired NVR system. My brand of choice is Alibi. But to get something good, that will last, isn’t necessarily going to be cheap. You get what you pay for when it comes to security cameras.
perfect review
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Is an apple tv needed for this or is an iphone sufficient?
An Apple TV isn’t required, but it adds some great benefits.
Where in the Bahamas are you planning on going? We loved our time there, if you get a chance to visit the pig island you should
We’re going to Nassau.
Does it work with Android and Windows?
Android, yes. Windows, no.
@@GeorgeLangabeer Thanks.
What is the motion detection range?
No way to give an exact number, but APPROXIMATELY 15 feet horizontally & 5 feet vertically.
@SilverHammerSurveillance What is a good option to capture events/alerts further than 15ft away? Most cars sitting in the driveway are further out than 15ft. I have a doorbell camera, but it's not very helpful for motion detection other than a few ft from the door.
Yeah, doorbell cameras are designed for the door, not the driveway. You’d need a more robust camera for that.
@@GeorgeLangabeer any suggestions?
This is my go to system:

Do you still use this doorbell and how about an updated review a year later?
I don’t. But only because I’m always trying new doorbells. It’s still one of my favorites though.
Wish G4 wasn’t so big. Way too Wide. Wish they made non battery version. So they could make it size of Google Nest
I agree with all the above ☝🏻
Try to steal this bad boy😂
Taking out one of the battery 😮
The alarm is intense!
@@GeorgeLangabeer inside your house maybe, but what happens if nobody home? Just take out battery and keep walking quietly
@@GeorgeLangabeer thank you! Did you try or consider TAPO-D230S1? Look promising

What did you switch to and did you have better luck with it?
No picture in google home
This comment is a little vague…are you just making a statement? Or asking for help? If asking for help, I’d need to know more.
@@GeorgeLangabeer Hi google home nest hub doesn't give me a view from the cameras, notification only, very weak
I’ve had nothing but problems with this doorbell I went back to my circle view
I’ve had the exact opposite experience. Ive had no issues the G4, now that I have it wired. The Circle View was a mess.
Here's the Aqara promotional video, at the 16-second mark ua-cam.com/video/lWadY9hohJA/v-deo.html
I'll be glad if know what you think about my idea

Got two of these and neither of them work. Tried customer support and they don’t work either. Save your money don’t get these!
Define “didn’t work”. What specs didn’t work?
I’ve had a few of these myself & I’ve installed them for several of our customers and zero issues.
LOL. When someone tells me, 1080 is BETTER LOOKING than 2k… I'm OUT. LOL. Oh, I am happy you got paid. Again, LOL.
@@GeorgeLangabeer thank you for your reply
