I used to have a lot of fun with them when my daughter lived with me. I would introduce her and then tell them that her life was saved when she was just a week old by three blood transfusions. There was a good deal of awkward silence involved.
The catch with Mr. Deity's videos is that they must be watched to the very end... Up to 08:25 I thought "Myeah... nice project, but..." .......................... Then I was blown out of my socks!
I was raised Mormon and I just now learned that Mr. Deity was raised Mormon too. His inside knowledge made this absolutely hilarious -- because he's dead on (funny because it's true)! I'm going to show it to all my Mormon friends. They will probably laugh harder than I did. :D Well done!
+The Drunken Philosopher Congratulations for leaving the Mormon church. You're too weak and unstable to be among us. Thanks for leaving so we didn't have to throw your weak ass out! Have a nice, unaccountable life.
+John Lee This almost exactly, word for word, what you told me in another video comment. You feeling okay, or you just hate ex Mormons so much you felt the need to insult me twice?
+John Lee That's called harrassement. If you're glad that he left your group, why the fuck do you follow him arround to remind him of that fact? You're hypocrite and insecure.
I've met and hung out with most of them before, and they're all terrific people. But having Dan come back to the room was really cool. We've met many times, but never hung out and it was cool to see him just hangin'.
Seriously THE cleverest show on YT today, and that is saying a LOT for me because I adore so many Tubers and their work. Just really happy I have found Mr. Diety!!! I needed the cheering up, it's -20 degrees outside. Brrrr!!! * ** * * ***
"I don't see how one wife is enough.." Then Lucy gives you "the look" - priceless. Also "Don't make him beg" ? Really? Because that is some of your best stuff right there... 8-)
I LOVED Sydney. It is truly a world class city and deserves to be spoken of as such. I was really knocked out by all the beauty. I'm a big city guy, and I would put Sydney up against the best of them. Everywhere I turned, there was something wonderful and amazing to look at. I would return in a New York minute.
As an ex LDS Mormon, Mormonism is awesome. I really want to see Hollywood make a movie out of it, like they did with Percy Jackson, or Clash of the Titans.
What about the Broadway play written by the authors of South Park, "The Book of Mornon". Of course those gutless wonders would never writ3e a "Book of the Koran", though mr. deity knows we should pound the snot out of what has become an evil belief system.
@drche420 -- I served a 2 year mission for the LDS Church and it was a great experience. Spent nearly 1 hear on an Apache reservation doing humanitarian work. Mission's aren't for everyone but I certainly learned from it.
Yeah, I'm trying to figure out something to do with him. I like him tons! I had so much fun debating the Xtians with him outside the Convention Center. These people were obviously clueless because they didn't seem to realize that the heaviest hitters in the biz would be there to do battle. We were literally (and literarily) having to teach these people their Bible, and then they'd either deny of make up so BS answer right there on the fly. Hysterical!!!
Loved seeing you at the GAC! I was actually introduced to Mr Deity at the first GAC when PZ showed the video with him in it. Hope you get to come back soon.
Yeah, I didn't know they were going to be there when I booked the trip, but I stood in line for a couple hours to get a ticket (1 of 5). It was really good -- but way too short.
I miss the JWs knocking on my door, its been a couple years since their last visit. I've seen them walk past, look at my house number, refer to a sheet of paper that I can only assume is titled "Satan Dwelleth Here", and walk briskly on!!!
I actually wrote it for our Sony season three, and when we went our separate ways, it just kind of got lost. I originally wanted to do it with the guy who played Adam in season three, but I knew he'd hit that script out of the park. Thanks to Carrie Poppy for recommending Michael. He was fantastic!!!
Hey JJ! It's a pain! Basically, you need a flat white background (an 8 foot roll of paper from Filmtools). Then, we blast it with two daylight florescent lights (2-4 55W bulbs each side -- they are nice and soft and spread evenly). The goal is to make the background evenly over-exposed. On my camera, the Zebras read between 100-105 IRE. Then I begin lighting the talent to get the skin tones up to 50-65 IRE. If you go over 105 IRE on the background you'll get blooming around the talent. Not good.
Thanks (I think). Mike came in and just hit it out of the park. He was really fun to work with -- and so professional (as opposed to the rest of us). Most of that was scripted, with the exception of the "Ropers" comment which I threw in at the last minute.
FOLKS: If you watched the episode and skipped the beg to chuckle at the comments, go back and play the beg, the end is a true climax of living geniuses!
I said hi to you when you arrived at the Melbourne convention centre with your little overnight bag of DVD's lol - near the book sales - YOU BETTER REMEMBER ME! (lol jokes) ;)
I was standing right behind you and Aron; just out of the way of the cameras, it seems. That was indeed an awesome time. I just wish that guy had let Aron speak a complete sentence.
Aron is really cool. I'm trying to figure out what I can do with him on the show. It seems like a really great opportunity I don't want to squander doing something obvious.
Deity, it was awsome seeing you in Melbourne and shaking your hand. Only slightly disappointed that you didn't have my ordered DVD on you :-) But I'm sure there was some higher plan in me dishing out for the shipping costs. In any case, the performance at the Dinner was inspired (big suprise) and I guess hitting the Mini-Bar with Daniel Dennett must have been something as well :-)
Sorry, Aron. I wasn't even thinking of the suite that night, but you're right. I didn't mention AJ either -- but again, I wasn't thinking of the suite. Plus, I had you saying, "Don't make him beg!" Sometimes less is more.
I actually looked up the directions to get home on Google maps and it says, walk blah blah blah miles to wherever, then kayak across the Pacific Ocean to... some place in Papua New Guinea or Japan... it's hysterical! If I remember correctly, it was going to take 31 days. So I sold my Apple stock -- ha!!!
I spent about six weeks in the Missionary Training Center learning Portuguese before I got a record contract and decided to bail. I think the experience is probably very good for most people -- especially those who need to grow up (and what 19-20 year old doesn't). I just wish that after that, they'd look into the empirical claims of the religion to see if it's true.
And that's the way I played it -- my bit was reading a letter from Mr. Deity (his lawyers, actually) to the attendees of the Global Atheist Convention. He has some extra special comments for Richard, Sam, Dan, and Christopher. And he didn't play nice -- you would expect no less, right?
I agree. Today I am "liberal protestant" Mormon due, in part, to my graduate work in religion. I'm still quite "active" in the Church because I love the Mormon community. When we learn more about what underlies our metaphysical assumptions, we can adopt a healthy sense of humor about just how silly most of the assumptions actually are.
That's ALL I want to do. The rest of my life, I'm stuck in a room writing, shooting, or editing these videos (not complaining -- just saying). My favorite thing in the world is to go to these things and hang out -- especially with people who dig the show. Could there be anything better?
I want to visit Australia so badly. I love wildlife and would like to see something different from what we have here in California, although we have some incredible whales and dolphins.
ahahaha this one had me rollin for realz!!!!!! right after js tells them about polygamy...everyones reaction was hilarious!!!!! hahaha one of my favs episode! mr deity is awesome!
I'm just playing with you, Dalton. That, and I just wanted to brag that I was hangin' with all these cool people too -including you. :-)
I used to have a lot of fun with them when my daughter lived with me. I would introduce her and then tell them that her life was saved when she was just a week old by three blood transfusions. There was a good deal of awkward silence involved.
I didn't want to leave. I really loved both Sydney and Melbourne. Great country!
And now they've crushed COVID-19 twice.
Best episode yet!!!
love Lucy's expressions
I love this show so so very much.
The best part was the ending. I love that you got so many famous atheist to speak for you. Congrats and best of luck in the future my friend.
The catch with Mr. Deity's videos is that they must be watched to the very end...
Up to 08:25 I thought "Myeah... nice project, but..." .......................... Then I was blown out of my socks!
You mentioned everyone who was in the suite that night -except for me and Shelly Segal.
i love Lucy near the end. The look on her face. "I'm not buying any of this crap", look. Too funny. :)
Delightful! And I was so WOWED by the end of your begging segment!! Richard Dawkins was simply adorable as the last one to say, "Don't make him beg!"

+John Lee This almost exactly, word for word, what you told me in another video comment. You feeling okay, or you just hate ex Mormons so much you felt the need to insult me twice?
It's true every time I say it! Just a reminder...
+John Lee That's called harrassement. If you're glad that he left your group, why the fuck do you follow him arround to remind him of that fact? You're hypocrite and insecure.
He's in the public square, dipshit. If you can't take the heat...
growing up Mormon made me appreciate this video so much more lol. Hit it right on the head. and the end is perfect!
I've met and hung out with most of them before, and they're all terrific people. But having Dan come back to the room was really cool. We've met many times, but never hung out and it was cool to see him just hangin'.
As an ex-mormon, now agnostic- THIS IS HILARIOUS!!!!!
Love this show. So genius.
That last bit esp just brought back soooooo many happy memories from the convention :) Your show was awesome Mr Deity ;)
Can't get enough of this show :D
Seriously THE cleverest show on YT today, and that is saying a LOT for me because I adore so many Tubers and their work. Just really happy I have found Mr. Diety!!! I needed the cheering up, it's -20 degrees outside. Brrrr!!! * ** * * ***
I love this conversation. Glad I'm reading it for free.
Well done, Brian! Very nice treatment of Joseph Smith Jr. Had me rolling.
"I don't see how one wife is enough.."
Then Lucy gives you "the look" - priceless.
Also "Don't make him beg" ? Really? Because that is some of your best stuff right there...
8-)
you always end with a badass zinger
haha great stuff. Always cracks me up when Mr. D. finds himself in hot water with Lucy.
I sent him your comment to show him how powerful he is -- and to thank him for doing it. Sam rocks!!!
As a devout Mormon, this was rather brilliant!
Glad to see you were paying attention.
As an ex LDS Mormon, Mormonism is awesome. I really want to see Hollywood make a movie out of it, like they did with Percy Jackson, or Clash of the Titans.

Congratulations, Mr. D.

One 'wife' or was it one 'Life' - priceless.
Really enjoy your videos.
Mr. D - Highly impressed with your series. Very nice work!
Glad you're enjoying them. Now, spread the word!
So glad!
haha, hilarious take on Australia. Thanks for coming to Melbourne, it was great to see you at the Convention.
I'm sorry Brian. We love you!
I love this episode.
I was there at the GAC. Loved it!
I'm a theist and I just have to say one thing..I love your show. Lol.
I love these!
Oh and the bit was great too. Looks like the you've stumbled onto and endless supply of material.
Oooh, that's a great idea for the Cafe press store.
Thank you so much. That's great to hear. You've made my fortnight (as I am wont to say).
Good catch. I always like to see if my audience is paying attention.
Great show! Love the bit about Lucy losing a bet with Samson.
I know! It would make a PERFECT episode!
Loved seeing you at the GAC! I was actually introduced to Mr Deity at the first GAC when PZ showed the video with him in it. Hope you get to come back soon.
Great video was actually expecting this topic to come up just didn't know how you would do it.
He was freakin' hysterical. He did the big room Friday night and killed! Very funny guy.
I second that.
Amy RULES! The LOOKS on her face! ROFLOL!
Love the acting :)
That was an amazing ending. Way to go!!!!!!!!!!
That's an explanation from ignorance. When I was doing a lot of music, the augmented from ignorance was my favorite chord.
Yeah, I didn't know they were going to be there when I booked the trip, but I stood in line for a couple hours to get a ticket (1 of 5). It was really good -- but way too short.
So, you're the one. We've missed you!
I miss the JWs knocking on my door, its been a couple years since their last visit. I've seen them walk past, look at my house number, refer to a sheet of paper that I can only assume is titled "Satan Dwelleth Here", and walk briskly on!!!
Oooh, that's a great idea. I'll have to think about that.
I love this :D

I originally wanted to do it with the guy who played Adam in season three, but I knew he'd hit that script out of the park. Thanks to Carrie Poppy for recommending Michael. He was fantastic!!!
Another masterpiece!
Great idea!

That really is true. Great point!
So true. What a great bunch of people. I wanted to get Ayaan, but was too chicken to ask her. I'm still a bit in awe.
FOLKS: If you watched the episode and skipped the beg to chuckle at the comments, go back and play the beg, the end is a true climax of living geniuses!
Stay man. It was a thill to see you at the gala. I met Dave Silverman too, great guy.
Your videos are brilliant!
Ha! Love the double slam dunk at the end.
i love this stuff..hahahaha!!!
I said hi to you when you arrived at the Melbourne convention centre with your little overnight bag of DVD's lol - near the book sales - YOU BETTER REMEMBER ME! (lol jokes)
;)
I was standing right behind you and Aron; just out of the way of the cameras, it seems. That was indeed an awesome time. I just wish that guy had let Aron speak a complete sentence.
And here I thought this week was going to suck...! but it's a new Mr. Deity!
Aron is really cool. I'm trying to figure out what I can do with him on the show. It seems like a really great opportunity I don't want to squander doing something obvious.
Loved it when Joey talked about polygamy, poor Mr.Deity!:-)

Too late. I'm back home. I looked it up on Google maps and it gave me walking/kayaking directions.
I spent about six weeks in the Missionary Training Center learning Portuguese before I got a record contract and decided to bail. Great. I guess I'll just ride back then.
Holy Smoke! Amy is drop dead GORGEOUS!!! I think I'm in love...
That's funny. I just have to watch out for those really cute possums.
I made the trip to Darwin in about five hours. If you've seen my cycling legs, you'd be a believer.
Yay flower joke!
"There goes my budget..." 😂
Anyone else get one of those annoying "I am a Mormon" advertisements before the video would play? Ironic :) Great work as always Mr. Deity
Wasn't that just super cool of all of them?
I agree. Today I am "liberal protestant" Mormon due, in part, to my graduate work in religion. I'm still quite "active" in the Church because I love the Mormon community. Was wondering when you'd bust out the Mormon stuff! Nice! And again, from one pug-owning former Mormon to another... thanks!
That's probably why I ended up in New York. D'oh!!!
I agree! Seriously! That was awesome! ^_^
