Dude I shit you not I had a dream last night where I was in a restaurant and I didn’t know what to order and I chose some random thing on the menu and the waitress said “oh the molokhia? Thats really gross” and then I woke up. The thing is I’m a white boy from south texas I never heard of this food till that dream I feel like I gotta fulfill that prophecy and make this dish
you should try the "real" molokhia (tunisienne) with beef and complete different molokhia (powder instead frozen leaves).. thats the real arab molokhia. search for the recipe here on youtube and try it out.. no rice, or chicken ect. just molokhia with beef and bread.
She mentions adding tomatoes and ice to avoid making slimy molokhia. However, I have not noticed a problem with slime, when I add lemon juice. Tomatoes are slightly acidic, as is lemon juice and the acid avoids slimy molokhia. I have never added ice with dried or frozen molokhia.
Powdered Jute mallow or malta jute (Corchorus olitorius, also known as "Jew's mallow," "tossa jute," "bush okra," "ewedu," "krinkrin," "etinyung," "molehiya[Cypriot Turkish]," "mulukhiyah," ademe [adémé, in Togo] and "West African sorrel," among many other local names, often invoking the essential traits) is a species of shrub in the family Malvaceae. Together with C. capsularis, it is the primary source of jute fiber. The leaves and young fruits are used as a vegetable, the dried leaves are used for tea and soup thickener, and the seeds are edible.
I'm American married to a Jordanian and he taught me about adding Vermicelli to the rice to give it extra flavor. Now, that's the only way I cook my rice
Can confirm that a lot of middle eastern countries do this! It's important that you get the vermicelli and don't just add it to the rice. Otherwise it will completely disintegrate and be indistinguishable from the rice.

It just clicked you are “that” Anwar. I was just looking for Molokhia because everyone posts it in the Palestinian food group I’m in. That’s really cute.
Omggg I wish I can’t eat this it’s my favorite tooooo and I’m from New Jersey my aunt died she only made it for me but I can never find the ingredients here. I just look for recipe and found this your momma is so cute thanks momma ask her if I can make it with like spinach ? Idk 🤷♀️
You can‘t make it with spinach. The actual jute leaves is what makes it the dish it is. I’m sure you could try it but it just wouldn’t taste the same as it normally would
An Egyptian store called Afadina sells Molochia (I didn't spell it correctly). I think it's in either East Brunswick or New Brunswick. It's a great store for genuine Middle Eastern food.

What’s the purpose of the ice in the soup? What does it do?
She mentions adding tomatoes and ice to avoid making slimy molokhia. However, I have not noticed a problem with slime, when I add lemon juice. Tomatoes are slightly acidic, as is lemon juice and the acid avoids slimy molokhia. I have never added ice with dried or frozen molokhia.

Is including pasta in your rice the norm?
If anyone can answer this, please.
I'm American married to a Jordanian and he taught me about adding Vermicelli to the rice to give it extra flavor. Now, that's the only way I cook my rice

Not any pasta just vermicelli. It is not the norm but one way of cooking rice for special dishes or occasions.

You can find the ingredients in most Arab supermarkets in Patterson NJ, check the freezer second for the green jute leaves
You can‘t make it with spinach. The actual jute leaves is what makes it the dish it is. I’m sure you could try it but it just wouldn’t taste the same as it normally would
