Russ Faldo's instruction manual was terrific and worked wonders when I had warmed up for hours before playing. After watching this video I tried widening my stance, I got up from my chair in the living room, grabbed a 9 iron, set up with more separation in the knees, moved into my right hip on the backswing, started down with the left hip and was amazed at the feeling of power it generated without releasing the right hand. My plastic practice ball flew so squarely into the opposite wall and flew knee high . . . within an inch of flying directly over it's starting point on the rug. I'm sold! Thank you! I'm no Nick Faldo, I gave up years ago after shooting an 83 at our club one week and a 108 the next.
What a great, complete and thorough analysis of the golf swing. Absolutely invaluable information for all us "hacks". Thank you Russell for your knowledge, expertise and commitment to GOLF!
3:33 You are the 1st to associate lead wrist w/club face! I have a racquet sport background but struggle w/a slice and hitting it straight. Now I have a relatable (and controllable) reference point regarding angle on contact. THANKS!
I pretty much know everyone out there teaching, (or think I do), and you are perhaps right at the top of instruction. Physicists like to talk about the Unified Theory of Everything to explain the origins of the Universe. This video might just be that for the golf swing. You have a great talent for explaining all the pertinent aspects of the golf swing and in very simple and elegant terms. This instruction should be mandatory viewing for new and experienced golfers. Lots of lightbulbs here. Well done!
That earned a sub. This vid should be one of the first things that every golfer looking to play good golf should see. 15 years of inconsistency for me, but you perfectly explained some vital parts of the swing which I never knew how to do correctly. Thanks from the other side of the pond. Also, you should write a book.
After watching this video along with the rest of the recent videos, it has improved my game so much. I've gained accuracy while getting rid of my natural pull-draw. Greatly appreciate not only the knowledge, but how to communicate it in steps I can follow. Keep up the great work!!
Russell many thanks, over the past 8 months you have transformed my golf swing and enjoyment of the game. I'm starting to hit like a pro I'm so grateful for the time you have taken to explain every detail. I live and work in china and your help has been invaluable.
Russell - 'er, I suppose it was you, the voice was familiar, just wanted to say again, "You da Man!" - best on the Tube ! Learned more from you than all the other instruction I've had in 50 years of golf. an humble Thanks !
Superb instruction. Please keep it coming. Me not so superb golfer at all yet, but you give me plenty of tools and hope. I am older and less flexible but trying to smooth it all out. Thanks.
Russell, great work. I have some lower back problems and fight early extension. I’m working on stretching upper muscle groups so its easier to get into the correct positions. In the past I played a round, unknowningly swinging like you. Well, those days my ball striking was amazing. The ball comes off the sweet spot like it’s shot out of cannon. Of course, the next day I don’t repeat those moves, maybe going back to some bad habits and I can tell I’ve lost it. So, we practice and we play always enjoying the journey of finding the most amazing thing in the world, a Professional Like Golf Swing. Love your videos. Keep them coming. Yep, I’m a subscriber, have been for many months.
Took your comments to the course today Russell in particular about the position of the right elbow, best ball striking for a while...keep up the good work, thanks.
Great video. I’ve watched a few of your videos now and it’s really obvious my hip rotation is completely wrong. My understanding of it was so off, but i feel I’m heading in the right direction now. Thanks
Russell, Russell, is that really you. Always grateful to my forefathers who felt the need to immigrate from the fog 150 years ago. Great video, glad you're there !
Great video Russell, Best instruction I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen a lot.Love how you explain 2 or three of the main things that need to happen , or the whole swing. Love it !!
Great video. I have been struggling with this for 40 years. The reason is the language. A weekend high handicapper doesn’t understand things like “early extension.” I have never heard that term in the golf course. Only on instructional videos. if a high handicapper just maintains the spin angle, all the things you mention will happen. I’ll explain, as a person bends over at Address, if they keep that angle on the back swing without out lateral movement, the right hip and left shoulder will balance out. Same on the downswing, the right shoulder stays down at impact (right side crunch), and to keep your balance the left hip has to go back over the left heel. high handicappers don’t very rarely maintain spin angle and are too upright in the down swing, which subconsciously forces your hips forward toward the ball to maintain balance.
Chris the key is home practice everything he says we should do. Watching a video and thinking we can go out and play golf like him is crazy. But doing the work results in a swing change.
I love your video, i clearly understand what mentioned in detail. As you said I am typical who has less flex, i am struggling to do separation as I am 45 years old with 80 kg body. Can you advice in video how to improve our swing without separation, do you lateral bend can help?
Russell first class, very well explained. First observation for me, left hand heel pad way out of position, based on practice swing my grip now feels very stable. Only other issue is concentrating on maintaining forward tilt through the hitting area, appreciate this is a function of clearing the left side combined with upward movement of the left shoulder.
Thank you for the explanations which are so clear and insightful, I now understand more about the need for the spine curving on the downswing, amongst other things. Can you please tell us what you think about the 'HUMMING BIRD MOVE' - I am describing 99.9% of the pros (including your good self) whose heads staying PERFECTLY DEAD STILL IN SPACE (like a humming bird picking nectar from a flower) from left arm parallel to impact, whilst almost all other parts of their body are moving vigorously. I haven't come across any golf teacher who is willing to mention this point (which I find to be hugely surprising) or who says that it is an essential element of the swing - but IT MUST BE SO if 99.9% of the pros are doing it! [Or is this a trade secret? : )] How can we practise for this humming bird move? Could you please talk to us about this move by referring to slow motion footage of any pro's swing.
Russell, Really good information. Can you either do an upload or point me to one of your uploads on how to train being on plane just post impact 8 43 in ths upload as I am not totally clear what you are doing and what you are meant to do.
Another great video Russell. I'm curious as to what if any are your swing thoughts while standing over the ball. Just prior to starting your backswing are you thinking anything in the mechanics of your swing? Thanks
Russell, I am absolutely puring the ball with your swing, but I was wondering if this swing you teach would be considered “back friendly”? I have a history of back spasms. Thanks!
Russell, very clearly explained, but I still experience problems hitting behind the ball and I have been told this is because I move my hip too far to the left, drop my right shoulder, get behind the swing and either hit the shot fat or try to correct with my hands and close the club face and get a snap hook. Can you provide some type of trigger move or downswing thought to keep the body center of gravity in the proper position through the impact zone. I so clearly know what I am doing wrong but I cannot find the fix. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Well, it’s pretty much the message I’m trying to portray at the moment that without the correct hip movement you will struggle. I’ve got a video coming up early next week which will help. It’s about maintaining posture
You mentioned folks complaining about flexibility.. and that you may have some videos in the future to help with that.. Let me second that notion !! I really need some help with my hips.. and I also get a little lower back pain when trying to get the correct movement. So some exercises to help with hip rotation and flexibility would be very helpful !!
I’ve been implementing many of your teachings to transition from a flip release to a more body rotation stable release. I hit my irons fantastic dead straight. I’ve played a draw my entire life and when making this change now I hit a fade. Took a while to trust aiming down the left hand side with a driver. My miss now is when the when the fade is too extreme and I miss right. The usual 10yd fade is more like a 20 or 30yd. Any tips to avoid this miss?
Loved the video! I'm very flexible and can create good separation, but whenever I start with the hips, I get stuck, can't continue rotating, and the club won't reach the ball unless I flip at it. Why is this?
It would depend on your swing shape, it could be a great thing?! This is why I offer the opportunity to send swing into the channel russell@fourashesgolfacademy.com
Russell I've just been up the range to work on my hip separation as you teach so well. I videoed myself and still wasn't getting my hips and shoulders open at impact like you are in the title picture of this video so I actually started setting up in this impact position and then swinging back and through and I was striking the ball incredibly, lovely little draw with the ball ending up on target. Is starting like this a good drill to ingrain the impact position?
First off let me say your explanations are clear and readily understood as to the points you are highlighting. However I wonder if the motions as you describe are not going to cause any issues with the lower vertebrae or lumbar muscles. Can you prepare a short video on what movements may cause harm and how to avoid them -- hints on knowing what to feel if done correctly and if done incorrectly. Many thanks.
What I love about your teaching is that you share the entire what and how of the swing. It is a gift to us. Thanks Russel.
Have been watching this video over and over again - very helpful tips. Thanks a lot, Russell!
Russ

Just saw this one. As always the video/explanation is exceptional. Why did I only just see it? Greta clarity in explanation
This is a great video to bookmark and rewatch every so often. Thanks RH for all you do!
What a great, complete and thorough analysis of the golf swing. Absolutely invaluable information for all us "hacks". Thank you Russell for your knowledge, expertise and commitment to GOLF!
You are the best; a golf teacher genius. After 40 years I am now nearly a Pro. Thanks from Montgomery, AL USA

Russ your knowledge of the golf swing and more importantly the way you are able to communicate it is phenomenal. Thank you once again great video.

As a physical therapist, you present a very knowledgeable blend of golf knowledge with biomechanics. Excellent job with the summary. Thanks!
Russell many thanks, over the past 8 months you have transformed my golf swing and enjoyment of the game. I'm starting to hit like a pro I'm so grateful for the time you have taken to explain every detail.

Thank you for your feedback
Wow, this video ties everything you’ve been talking about together. Excellent!
Russell - 'er, I suppose it was you, the voice was familiar, just wanted to say again, "You da Man!" - best on the Tube ! Learned more from you than all the other instruction I've had in 50 years of golf. an humble Thanks !
Wow the hip rotation in transition explanation is a revelation! Thank you.. wish I had seen this 20 years ago :)
Best UA-cam instruction info.
Thanks - really great description and explanation of the ideal swing.
Superb instruction. Please keep it coming. Me not so superb golfer at all yet, but you give me plenty of tools and hope. I am older and less flexible but trying to smooth it all out. Thanks.
Really great.. technical stuff but explained as simply as possible
Thanks Russell I watched ur swing when u filmed it from above this view was class, learning a lot from ur content thanks once again
Good stuff. Gonna have to watch again and again and some more to absorb all the information. There's so much important information in this video.
Best video that I've ever seen that can improve the downswing.
Thought I had to pull the right arm down but rather it's the shoulder turn. Brilliant.
Its great to see your subs rising. well deserved will be over 100k before years end. plenty of great instruction in this video
Just found you love your videos completely different from everyone else
Russell, great work. I have some lower back problems and fight early extension. I’m working on stretching upper muscle groups so its easier to get into the correct positions. This video again is top class 👍 think I might even make the journey for a lesson 🏌️ really well explained
Thanks again Russell. Hitting is more solid than ever. Handicap has dropped 3 points.
Great Stuff Russell, you have helped me so much, cheers!
Just an outstanding lesson.
Another instructional gem, cheers Russell
Great video. Could not be explained better.
awesome teacher
ANOTHER GREAT DRILL COMP RUSSELL 💯⛳🕺🏾
Thanks Russell, all your videos are great!
Great video can you do one at some stage on short putts the ones we expect to make but quite often don’t. Many thanks Raj

Great Russell, i like it very much

Will de talking about this area on the channel this week
Another great video Russell. I'm curious as to what if any are your swing thoughts while standing over the ball. Just prior to starting your backswing are you thinking anything in the mechanics of your swing? Thanks
This is something I will be doing very soon
Russell, I am absolutely puring the ball with your swing, but I was wondering if this swing you teach would be considered “back friendly”? I have a history of back spasms. Thanks!
Yeah it’s back friendly
I will be putting some videos on the channel about less flexible golfers
@@russellheritagegolf Thank you, and I did find your video on how to swing without back pain.

Yes I’ll be doing this very soon
So on the downswing, you start by moving the left hip laterally or dropping the right elbow in front of the right hip?
Shifting pressure

Check your not moving forward throughout the swing
I enjoyed my golf.
Loved the video! I'm very flexible and can create good separation, but whenever I start with the hips, I get stuck, can't continue rotating, and the club won't reach the ball unless I flip at it. Why is this?
Likely is an early extension
When starting your backswing, do you feel like you initiate the backswing with your left or right arm?
Mike Sobol ....I think chest and my shoulders and arms go with it.
I will create a video area shortly
When I do this my arms drop so much down and looks like Sergio / not sure if this is good/ help please
It would depend on your swing shape, it could be a great thing?! This is why I offer the opportunity to send swing into the channel russell@fourashesgolfacademy.com

Yeah it’s good to get the feeling however work needs to be done in transition
Why is it called a “separation” when you start rotating the hips?
Separation between the hips and torso. The hips move first then the torso.

I don't get it.
Excellent explanation!
