    Thanks Scott! Reconsidering now jumping up a division. Took 6th of 25 at my second tournament in novice division. Thought that was what I needed.

    You are a straightforward and excellent teacher of disc golf. I look forward to competing with you when I get good enough!!

    The thing I get is this, some regions are different like a Rec is an intermediate level and at others a Novice and Rec are the same rating just one has more near beginner players. others a intermediate is what an Am 1 level would be elsewhere. Now if your PDGA raking was used in the mix forcing people to play to the skill level they are at then the divisions would be more uniform in different areas at least in the USA.

      I think of the foot fault video controversy when I think of Scott with blue hair.

      I just saw that video, and the one of him making out with his blue haired lady, literally last night, haha. I know I am years behind, but its hard for me to agree with those foot faults called, especially two of them... But, Scott seemed to just roll with it. I don't like that card mates are the ones to call rules infractions, but those are/were the rules of the game.

    I totally agree. Turning 40 and going to Finland for the Tyyni 2019 was huge for me as I was rated (and still am) low enough for Ma40 and having the opportunity to compete with many players at a similar level both skillwise and agewise finally exposed me to this truth. Before I turned 40 I would just play open because I felt I should play better than most guys showing up for Ma3 at the time (I would have been eligible for Ma3 back then) and we did not have Ma2 divisions at nearly any competitions in northern Sweden back then. My goals back then would be to finish a certain %age above last or to play better than my rating and that completely blocked me from learning this in the past (to the casual observer this may seem like the same thing but during the final round it changes completely).

    Here I am still donating money in the rec division. Seems there's always 2-3 in the rec division who are only playing their first or second tourney but blow everyone else out of the water. That, or they only play 1 or 2 tournaments a year(even if they've being doing that for over a decade) so they never feel like they have to move up. Guess I have no choice but to get good.

    I take pictures with the board when I'm above the last 2-4 on the rec or am division....this is not something I'll have to worry about, but it is nice to daydream...hah.

    Often if one is consistently winning, or consistently on the lead card of their division, eventually their rating will go up high enough to be above the divisions' ceiling. Because often to be in those positions one is shooting higher than the division rating for that tourney. Playing in a division within your rating isn't sandbagging. (a huge advantage of the PDGA over the PGA is it's much tougher to sandbag if you're a registered PDGA member with a PDGA number)
    When I see players shooting like that in my division, often near the top, I try to catch them while I can before they aren't in my division any more. Which, at that point, is often only a couple months away.

    • @jaimeperry7326
      @jaimeperry7326 3 роки тому

      The problem is that people drop their PDGA membership so they can play and win in lower divisions. It's gotten so bad that I just assume anyone signed up without a PDGA number is a bagger ... almost always right.

    • @bernan1
      @bernan1 3 роки тому +1

      @@jaimeperry7326 I'm not seeing that. I see a lot of people w/o PDGA numbers but I'd say 99% (of the good ones)are new players coming in from ultimate as they haven't been around in the tourneys prior. It's a small pond. Anyone routinely coming in unrated and blowing out their lower divisions would be noticed..which then it's the TD's job to handle that.
