**ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED** congratulations! You have discovered new ren friend chinchilla! She has a few other collabs witj ren, how to be me (live) is one of my favorites, also mental health related. And i think its safe to say you are officially a renegade 😊 love to see it 🥹💜💜
Another person mentioned that! It makes sense because otherwise it's a bit out of place. That is some layered creativity! Thank you for letting me know!
@@Coping_Skillz Shock from loud sound is also used in performance, to trigger an amygdala response making you more emotionally receptive. It is also the reason for the drumming and trumpet sounds at the start of News programs. Door to Door sales people use it with the loud knock on the door. Mangers use a folder slapped on the table. Loud sounds work but anything that triggers excitement works. Sudden movements, food, sex, competition winning or losing, things that make you afraid or desirous. You may notice it as your conscious is pushed into the back seat, the feeling of some one else being in the driving seat of your body. The someone else is your subconscious. It is what is triggered in the freeze, fight, flight response. It is used to fill the brain with adrenalin and other chemicals that train the brain. It is what allows you learn to ride a bike or drive a car or hunt. Because each of those activities are subconscious activities. The conscious brain takes at least 1.3 seconds to make a decision, if you try to drive consciously you would kill yourself or others. I learned this while working with highly paid psychologists and psychiatrists working for the military while building what is now the de-facto training simulation for NATO, Virtual Battle Space. The military stated spending a lot of money after General George Marshall's post WWII analysis "Men Under Fire" came out explaining that even under direct threat to their lives and those of their squad mates only 25% of frontline troops could fire a shot to kill another person. No surprising an animal that readily kills its own species is doomed to extinction. And that is before you take into account the effects of socialisation including religion. 1st Commandment "Though shalt not Kill" etc. So the military employed a lot of psychologists and psychiatrists first of all told the military to change the shape of the target from a bullseye to the shape of a human. That got it up to 50% by the time of the Korean war. Then psychologists and psychiatrists told the military about operant conditioning, so they tried out pharmaceuticals and MKULTRA happened and was not very efficient. Trying to use external chemicals to brainwash the brain by mimicking the chemicals your brain already produces was not very efficient and did not work well. So looking at Pavlov again the psychologists and psychiatrists said: get shouty sergeants to scare soldier to trigger the amygdala response. The psychologists and psychiatrists have refined it over the years. And what we did in the games industry attracted them. Bits of what they do leak into the commercial world. Gamification as a training tool. Layout of windows with the stuff you want people to buy on the right hand side of the browser. Grasping hand for fruit is the right hand. Does not work so well on a left handed people. Use o algorithms to trigger emotional response to keep your attention and set you up for the sale.
@@Coping_SkillzRen has many layers. Nearly everything he does in his songs/ videos is purposeful. Only one thing I can think of as a happy accident is the crossing countdown on HalfTime. Naz Retake 😂
I’m a long in the tooth mental health nurse in the UK. I’ve heard so many patients describe this feeling when taking antidepressant medication but no one has ever been able to put it into words so beautifully.
Thank you for being a help to people with mental health concerns for so long! Take a hug from The United States! I've also heard this sentiment expressed multiple times. Many of the adolescent clients that I've had who have been prescribed these types of medications often use the word zombie. Which translates to me over obvious over-medication. Starting slowly, especially when people are young, is so important. Rushing treatment to get to a "therapeutic range" is not worth the rush most of the time! And yes, this song captured that feeling perfectly and beautifully!
Wanted to say, watched your reaction to Hi Ren, then this, how you managed to turn a 9 minute song reaction that’s almost an hour long into an engaging, thoughtful video, and then a 3 minute song into 25 minutes, without it being too much or hard to watch? That’s amazing in itself - thank you so much for putting this (and yourself) out there like that - appreciate the time, effort, and the appreciation you showed out there for people to see. Glad to hear you weathered that storm, and came back with something beautiful.
Wow! Thank you for the stellar compliment! It doesn't match the name, but I'll take it! LOL. But seriously, thank you for the supportive words and leaving such an uplifting comment! It means a lot! I'm having a great experience down this Ren rabbit hole! Thought provoking creativity like this is hard to find!
@@Coping_Skillz Ren is special - he has a vast and varied catalog that caters to any taste, Hi Ren, Troubles, Sick Boi, they give a spectacular taste of who he is, and how he got to that place in life, but he has a huge collection of different genres of music, and some retakes of songs that inspired him (I’d highly recommend his live version of “Bittersweet Symphony”. I’d throw in another, but honestly there’s so many that I’d feel bad suggesting without including the rest, wind up typing 40 paragraphs. I’m not really a cynic, just feel like sometimes a little cynicism is a good thing with all the crazy in the world at the moment… too many things you can’t take at face value, people telling you why you should hate other people… Ren is one of those people that kind of gives you faith that maybe things might turn out alright, appreciate the reply!
You are underrated my brother. I hope the wave of Renegades come your way. I made sure they know who you are, soooo fingers crossed. Loved your down to earth real reaction to this. Keep doing what you are doing my friend. I like your real take on these.
Thank you so much for the compliment! I'm already taken back by the response to the videos so far and having fun sliding down the Ren Rabbit Hole! So saying you hope the wave of Renegades is on its way has me scratching my head a bit! But regardless I'm really enjoying the though provoking lyrics and performances. Such powerful creativity!
To me, the great big smile was said with bitterness. I really like how you would go back to relisten to parts you were trying to remember so you could comment on the lyrics.
That's good insight I didn't really consider, thank you! I wish I had perfect recall, but alas I do not. lol I had a thought when it was happening that I wanted to share but couldn't remember! Seemed like the right thing to do! I'm just glad it wasn't too much of a distraction! Thank you for the support and for commenting!
@Coping_Skillz I actually like reactors to stop more than you do so we can get your take on what you are hearing and seeing instead of trying to remember what you wanted yo say. It is your channel and you should be able to stop as you like and discuss the song, etc. I subbed several videos back to hear your thoughts. Also, there is no 'right' way to interpret a Ren song.
The beauty of this song is that you can interpret it in different ways. To me, "push it back down with a new habit" means nothing is working, so i will try to self medicate with something new like drugs or alcohol. I've been there. At the moment you've got a great big smile but the hurt comes back.
Absolutely! That great big smile isn't sincere. I feel like it's more for the doctors, etc, who expect that smile based on all the meds they throw at us. I know I've done it.
Chalk outlines = walking dead = zombies I feel like I keep coming in like a lecturer, but it kind of really bothers me when people give information wrong leading to reactors having bad information. So... One of the treatments Ren underwent in Canada, 8 months of strong antibiotics to treat a co-infectant, failed. He got the blood test results a few weeks after he'd returned to the UK and he was already going downhill at that point, but had hoped it was just overexertion and stress from outside business issues cropping up. Last time he went to Canada it was a planned trip and he recorded a ton of songs and videos in advance so that he'd have content to release steadily while he was away. This time, he had maybe a month and he decided, despite his failing health, to push to finish up as much of what he had in progress as he could because that treatment had put him on his ass and this time it will be worse. He'd hurt his eye in a shoot a bit ago and they thought it healed, but two weeks ago he had an autoimmune flairup that attacked that eye which landed him in the ER. He's apparently spent the last two weeks fighting that, finding a doctor and adjusting meds. Still going back to Canada and his specialist at the end of the month and has been warned he is probably going to have to adjust his goals and expectations of what treatments can accomplish. His endgame might not be as hopeful as he'd wanted. He's frustrated and mentally struggling, understandably. But to me it also sounds like some worries from his fans were a bit overblown - his friends took over his social media as much because he literally couldn't see and had to baby his eye as that he was in an overall emergency state.
Thank you again for the additional detail! Makes sense with an autoimmune issue. It's going to attack anything remotely new in his system. I hope he learns how to temper his ambition a little! I'm sure this episode of treatment will come with growth! I certainly hope he knows he is loved by so many that wish him well!
@@Coping_Skillz as Lyme disease conspire into many other infections, he’s had a return of Bartenellas disease. Can cause fatigue, headaches migraines, strokes, heart issues etc. He did pass out while attempting to finish one more video before returning to Canada. Was taken by medic to er and was blind in hospital s one eye for almost 2 weeks I believe. Now at home his tentative plans are to return to Canada at the end of October.
Not quite a thousand but pretty darn close! I'm excited for that one. People have mentioned they didn't want to spoil anything, so there must be something interesting if people don't want to spoil it! Thank you for commenting and for the support!
I am really enjoying your reactions, we're so happy to have you in this space. You are correct in that Ren has been pushing himself pretty hard since he landed back on British soil a couple of months ago. Consequently, he's had a flare of his autoimmune symptoms as a result. He is also seeing a resurfacing of some of his prior mental health struggles (mild agoraphobia and some anxiety). He will have to go back to Calgary at the end of the month for a more intensive level of treatment for his autoimmune disorder for a while - for how long, I'm not sure. Even so, we are all absolutely gutted for him. He posted on his UA-cam community page yesterday about the frustration of being someone with so much drive and ambition living in a body that can't keep up - leaving his ambition frustrated. He's in the midst of learning a very hard lesson - he needs to learn to listen to his body when it speaks. We hate this for him; but our Ren is strong. He'll find the balance. Thank you for your very thoughtful and sensitive reactions.
Thank you for the compliments and the extra detail! From what I was hearing it sounded like that. Many people with drive and ambition like his end up pushing themselves too hard. You are gith, it is a tough lesson to learn. I'm gutted for him as well! Hopefully it helps him to take time to enjoy the moments! It's so easy to get caught up in the process that we forget to stop and breathe! Not that Ren needs more character, but perseverance develops character - and character brings hope! So, if he learns the lesson and perseveres through this rocky time hopefully we will get more songs of hope! I really liked the message of home in Troubles!
@@Coping_Skillz You should hear the original version of Troubles. Ren often has two versions of his songs, an original music video, then an acoustic version. If you listen to the originals first, it really blows your mind to see the magic he can do with his acoustic versions and the original of Troubles is truly touching.

“Balanced on your toes … gallows” For me, that is the feeling of barely surviving because of how your mind and body is reacting to things. You just keep going, but your balance is precarious - it will get to a certain point and you will completely lose it. Apologies for the misquote, but “an elastic band will only stretch so far and then snap”. That happened to me when I was eleven or twelve and it took me about eighteen months to recover with the resiliance of youth. Luckily, when you get older you start to understand how you, yourself work, and you learn to adapt.

Great as always..❤❤❤ I see tracing ourselves in Chalk Outlines as willingly taking medication that makes you feel dead inside...just so that you can cope..
@@Coping_Skillz it’s such a perfect day, take it just in case. I’m scared of being OK cause all things change. To me this hits home so hard, as I’ve been on SSRI for most of my life, but also take anti-anxiety medication. The fear of being OK is real because you know that it doesn’t last. Therefore, it almost creates more anxiety, when things are good because you’re constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop. At least this has been my experience and you take it anyway so that you don’t experience that drop that you know is coming. Also, I wanted to talk about the racing ourselves and chalk outlines. I truly believe there is much commentary in this song about how SSRI etc. to numb us to certain pain, but also has the effect of numbing us to other emotions as well, which intern can result a new feeling dead emotionally. He walking around in a floating chalk outline Means to be living life Dead to the sorrows, but also the joys. Not being able to feel.
The engagement between them was a spontaneous act by Chinchilla because it "Just felt right for this". Both of them are serious dramatic artists. They are musical siblings and are so great together. You will find that Ren chooses his collaborations intentionally and usually allows the collab to shine mightily within the song. Such a generous human. If you would like to know more about his struggles, mentally and physically, recommend the Chapters. Each one has a song to go along with it. [ua-cam.com/video/hQP7YoQdF3Y/v-deo.html&pp=iAQB]
Sometimes adlib performances are the best ones! That's awesome. I was really engaged with how engaged they were with each other throughout the song. And you are right! It being Ren's video, he really let Chinchilla shine! They were a great blend and each displayed such passion! Several have suggested the chapters, and I plan on watching those for sure! I've had tons of suggestions and want to do them all! Thank you for commenting!
Thank you for the compliment! I can see why, the two of them together are so beautiful! Such an amazing song! Thank you for the support and for commenting!
I have talked to many mental health counselors in my life as patient, guardian of others seeking help and/or mandated to attend as well as aspects of my chosen professions. I think you are the first person that I have ever heard state that relapse is a part of the healing process. That is such an important thing to understand and one of the reasons I think that so many people give up rather than keep trying. How horrible it is to feel like an utter failure when it often takes a lot of trial and error in addition to time and practice to learn healthier habits. It really an ongoing process.
Thank you for commenting! I'm so happy to hear that something I shared was helpful! (I am a bit saddened to hear that other counselors haven't presented this concept, but I don't want to sound judgmental - as counselors a lot of insight comes with experience and continuing to educate ourselves!) It's a well-documented concept about change (relapse being part of the process), if you want to know more about what I'm referring to you can search for information on "The six stages of change" concept! Yes, it is so demotivating to feel like "a failure" and an easy pit to fall into. But without "failure" we can't really have success! Reminds me of an anecdotal story I've used in sessions before. A very successful businessman was asked by a reporter - "How did you learn to make such good decisions in business?" He replied simply - "By making bad decisions." Learning from our mistakes is a vital part of life! Thank you for the kind words and for the support!
New Subscriber!!!! Thx Rebegades. This just popped up on my feed. Headed in to hear this message!!! 💪🏼💖🐇🕳️ Good job catching ‘the great big smile’ is sarcasm. To me it represents my Mask that I wear in public. Music is my therapy and my voice. Lifetime w/ CPTSD and DID; no one wants to deal with old folks with no cash, so I’m back to my old coping strategies. So thankful for these brilliant artists. I’m also grateful for great therapist’s reaction channels like yours. Your comments actually add to the viewers understanding. Your empathy and interpretation of the video, the message and Ren and Chinchilla’s powerful authenticity in delivering this song is the best I’ve heard yet. Glad to hear you are safe from Helene and Milton. Damn monster hurricanes…Ren brings an emotional hurricane that sweeps through and reminds us that we can feel, be vulnerable and be validated. Love his work. Chinchilla’s voice is incredible. For a woman who says she’s shy, she and Ren are gold together. Ren refers to them as Musical Siblings. Her voice has incredible power and she’s a fantastic solo artist in her own right. - Granny renegade
Thank you for the warm Renegade welcome! I’m so sorry you’ve dealt with CPTSD and DID for so long. I hope your old coping strategies are still effective and healthy! I think I was more impacted by the Ren hurricane than the actual hurricanes!
@@Coping_Skillz Ren will do that to you. 💛 Short story; my awesome therapist retired just before 2020. We were happy for him. New chapter! Then we retired and moved w hubby after 30yrs in the same home. Lost my “pain into purpose work” we had a farm and offered therapeutic riding programs. Shortly after resettling in a strange new place, we went into a long slow freeze response. Should’ve totally seen that coming, especially with the added pressure of the pandemic. Tried and failed to get a telehealth therapist through my private insurance company. The phone system was clunky and if the call dropped they couldn’t reconnect you in a timely manner and your session was ended. Then tried 5x to connect w a trauma informed therapists for face to face. So five interviews with strangers who needed a basic outline of our history, even with some records, they wanted too many details. It’s tough to trust strangers, but we tried. The process was very retraumatizing. Was actually told that we were non compliant because the provider felt that after 8 therapists and 40 odd years of work it was “wrong” to still be functioning in the only way we’ve ever known; as a system via DID. She was young, said she trained w/ B van der Kolk. Which gave us hope until that comment … gurl, we gave copies of The Body Keeps the Score to Veterans if they wanted them at our free weekend Veterans horse clinics. You are pigeonholing, generalizing, and you are name dropping. You need to grow and get some practical experience and learn to not be so judgemntal … you won’t be getting paid to practice with me. Ren, his lyrics, and his openness about his life and the big compassionate community of Renegades, literally cracked the ice on my isolation/ freeze response. Music has always been powerful across the system. It’s a start. We almost retired to your neck of the woods. Ended up in AZ instead. We are currently working through listening to Janina Fisher’s old book on Healing the Fragmented Selves. It’s taking forever to get through, lots of backing up and re-listening if we dissociate, but slow progress working on whatever content we can handle as a whole. Someone recently suggested ketamine or other modalities. We are not that stupid. We function. If we ended up in a back alley ketamine clinic our entire system could collapse. Would I try it with Bessel? Yeah, maybe. I’m not big on risk. Never used alcohol and drugs. They = lack of control. The US is way too short on qualified therapists. Kids like we were didn’t just “fall through the cracks,” we may as well have fallen off the face of the earth. Hiding in plain sight. School counselors might notice, most don’t get involved, especially if the kids don’t want to attract attention. Therapists in this country don’t get equitably and properly reimbursed by the private equity owned for profit insurance companies, therapists in my area only take cash. We recently got officially disabled (after 5 years of hearings) because of my lifelong trauma history and documented PTSD. Someone gave me the ACEs test, that was interesting. Prefect 10, we win on the resiliency test. Like Ren said in his lyrics for Troubles,I’m a “persistent little bugger.” 😂 certainly had hoped the switch to Medicare would open up some new opportunities… not. Just wanted to drop you a very big thank you for your kindness and support. It’s nice to be heard. It’s bad enough that all of our health and MH challenges are invisible. We know you get it. We caught your comment re:DID on the reaction to Hi Ren. It drives me nuts that after all these years, that I’ve still met some therapists don’t even think DID is real. One of the 5 was religious. She wanted to take me to her church because obviously we were possessed. 🤦🏻♀️😆 At least I can laugh about it. -
Ten loves music. He loves creating it and sharing it with all of us. Unfortunately his last treatments were unsuccessful at keeping the Lyme disease away and he needed to go back for additional treatments. We wish him a quick recovery. We’re here for him however long it takes.Much love, and respect from all the Renegades ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🦄
I've been looking forward to another reaction from you. Thank you for this. I'm still suggesting Power 😬 it has a great message AND it's fun. Thank you again! 💯
Thank you for the kind words! I'm trying to get better at making more eye contact with the camera. I'm so happy to hear it has had a positive impact - even if it was just for you! Thank you for the support!
Beautiful reaction! My first time hearing it I diddnt get it, then a second listen and the meaning clicked and now it’s incredible! Taking medication to feel normal only to feel like there is nothing left of you and even on good days you take it and numb yourself cause even good days come to an end. So sad and beautiful.
Thank you for the continued support and compliment! I'll have to go back and listen again when I get the chance! Such a beautiful song. I'm sure there are more layers to it that I might see after additional viewings!
Hey Coping Skills! FYI Ren does a lot of fun music too, in case you want to hear something non healthcare related. Animal Flow, Losing It, Illest of Our Time, to name a few.
Thank you for the suggestions! I'm definitely curious to check out some of his other types of videos as well. Several has said he doesn't fit in a genre, so it sounds I have a lot of exploring to do!
Thank you for the compliment and for commenting! I'm really enjoying my trip down the rabbit hole! I'm sure there are a TON of things I missed, but glad I'm catching some meaningful bits! His music so far is so layered! Going to take more than a single viewing for me to unearth more of the nuance!
Ren and Chinchilla are magic together. They are good friends and Ren calls her his sister in music. I'm enjoying your reactions. I think How to Be Me (live) would be a great on for you to do. Keep up the good work! I take the chalk outlines to mean that numb feeling you get from some psych meds.
Thank you for the kind words! Another person mentioned the same thing about being siblings in music! How to be Me is on the list for sure! That makes sense about the psych meds! Especially if overmedicated.
Great reqction to a great song. Ren is genius when it comes to bringing his viewers/ listeners into the experience he is discussing in his art. As a side note, chalk outlines are used for any investigation. They tend to use a tape that shows up better on black and white photod, which are also used to bring out greater detail where the cause of death is unknown or unexpected. I remember almost passing the song by for the title because I knew it would be intense, but I can't pass up this man's art. Thank you for reacting yo his art in such an honest way.
Thank you for the kind words! I agree Ren is fantastic and drawing in the audience! It's remarkable. I try to be genuine, I'm naturally a pretty sensitive man so sometimes it can bleed out of me even when I don't want it to. Thank you for the additional detail about chalk outlines as well as that makes a lot of sense. I like your screen name; it makes me curious why you feel you are controversial. But even if it is just a bit of a play on words, it is interesting!
NOW you're becoming a Renegade, not just hearing the message, but also feeling the raw emotions Ren is able to draw out. Welcome to the Rabbit hole. In case no one else has mentioned it yet, "Hi Ren" was also recorded live. Also, note how this was filmed in "one take". A lot of Ren's video's are recorded in one go, often doing several takes, and picking the best one, but still, no cuts in the final video.
It had to be pointed out to me, but the "one takes" are extremely impressive! I'm thoroughly enjoying my trip down the rabbit hole! Thank you for commenting and for the additional detail! I'm loving Ren's expression of raw emotion so far!
Thank you so much for the comments! I’ve done 2 songs with the two of them now and I’m not surprised. She is so talented! I’ve got a couple suggestions for solo Chinchilla I hope to get to at some point!
The simple truth is, they both have been through the mental health journey a long time together and separate but the correlation is clear cut in how it's the fine literally balance every day in taking meds for depression and such you are essentially drawing yourself in a chalk outline, some days you lose yourself in it too and the metaphor is like you're scared of feeling ok so you take it just incase and it is to stop you feeling like you're suffocating with a noose round your neck from the stress and strain so yeah, you feel safer dead inside with that sip of serotonin to boost you to avoid your regular covering it up habits if that's a routine or drugs or drink or whatever or even when going around buried in that fake smile. You kinda nailed it on the head mostly just by guessing. This is a constant battle in our minds when we take our Prozac every day.
Thank you so much for sharing! Feeling like the walking dead is portrayed so well in this song! It is beautiful and full of meaning and pain at the same time. Thank you for commenting!
They harmonize so well, but that was just the icing on the cake! The way they engaged with each other and fed off each other's energy and passion was breathtaking! Thank you for the comment and quote from Ren!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I can only hope my perspective finds those it will help, even if just a little. I appreciate the compliment and wanted to say thank you for your support and for commenting!
I'm sure you got many recommendations for Chinchilla songs here. Just wanted to mention that Chinchilla has great solo performances of her own music. She really taps in to the experience of being a young woman in these modern days. Interesting that she sings a lot about difficulties within relationships, and sometimes references her own failings as a romantic partner. Look for her live performances (like here) to see her tap into the emotions behind the lyrics. Thanks again for the video.
Thank you for the continued support! I hope you are enjoying my Ren journey half as much as I am! I'll have to check out some of Chinchilla's solo stuff! Being a young woman in modern days is a very relevant topic! Difficult waters to wade through. I have a daughter not much younger than Chinchilla, so I would likely relate from a fatherly perspective! Thank you so much for commenting and for the additional detail!
Thank you for the compliment! I'll move how to be me up the list a bit! Several people commenting that as a suggestion as a follow-up! Chinchilla's voice is so beautiful! I will do this soon for sure!
If I may suggest something for you to watch on your own - it's a short video where we see a much younger Ren pleading for help. I watch this every so often because I love to see just how far he's come since this time - it makes me so proud for our Sick Boi. It's amazing to think that, at the time he made this video, he had NO idea what was to come for him. ua-cam.com/video/jaltehH_cNo/v-deo.html
Chalk outlines - the walking dead, the institutional whites they are wearing in the video, that remove individuality and colour... the chalk 'outline' that is the carrier for the active ingredients of the SSRI and other pills and potions that can be useful but can just smother the person. Also an isolation or suppression of hope in the fear that things will get out of control. There is also the possibility that self medication could literally result in death by misadventure or even deliberate suicide, leading to a metaphorical chalk outline (nowadays CSI uses evidence markers and digital crime scene reconstruction based on multiple images used to generate a 3d space together with the high resolution stills - there are no chalked outlines floating in the harbour where the police officer fell off a boat after being shot any more...).
Thank you for the additional context! Great insight about the video and great information about crime scene investigations! I appreciate the comment and support!
Keep doing these...your insights are right on! You should do Ren X Chinchilla Live next...they take it up a level. I suffer from chronic nerve pain and the meds that I take often leave me in a brain fog...and it feels like a "floating chalk outline" in the sense that I am often only half alive...or conversely, I am half dead. Hard to be a teacher or a preacher when you are in that state...hard to communicate clearly and effectively from there...and I can't imagine the challenge to creativity that comes with that.
I intend to! Thank you so much for the kind words and affirming my perspective! I'm so sorry you suffer from nerve pain, that must be truly challenging! Especially being a teacher/preacher! I'm sure it hinders your homiletics considerably! Having foggy thoughts and trying to get through any type of public speaking is rough! It amazes me how creative Ren is despite so many hardships! But it goes to show you that perseverance really does develop character - and high character people bring the world hope!
I have a theory of the video. Sorry, it's kind of a book, but hopefully you find it interesting. The way that the sounds of the world fade at the start, the stack of records, the lights flashing at specific key points. I think the hallway might be someone's mind. And I think the two of them are competing for it. They refer to a mind being a hallway in their other duet as well, so no big leaps there. Okay, so, Ren comes in, world drowns out, he passes and briefly checks memories before going deeper, and then the lights flicker just before he finds the guitar. Ren has stated in multiple songs that music is his therapy, so symbolically for him, the guitar is his escape, that's for him personally, but when matched with the lyrics, I think his message implied for us is that Ren is personifying the altered state. The high. So naturally, for my theory, that implies Chinchilla would be sobriety. Here's how: From her entrance, we get the light again, she appears from nowhere, but also telling, is her stature, and position on the floor. Keep note of these, and the cinematography. They don't make eye contact outside of the chorus, and when they do, pay attention to how they're blocked and framed. look how she's in his face during that first chorus, confrontational, but not overly so. more like a disagreement or light argument, than it is a fight. she's also, more or less, at eye level with him, despite his sitting down. As soon as the chorus ends, the eye contact does too. She throws her hands up in surrender as she turns away. The camerawork focuses on Ren again, she's gone. but then it swings behind him. Blocked and framed again, over his shoulder, she's clearly the focus now, yet she's not focused at all. And that lingers as she cries. (quick tangent; the way they captured that sound is ridiculously impressive.) Now, look where she lands up. Back down on the floor again. Small. Cue the chorus and the eyes lock once more. On the ground, she's begging now. Pleading. But the longer it goes on, the more her disposition seems to change. She's getting closer, slowly building more aggression in her voice. and then, suddenly, she bursts. Top of her lungs, standing over him, she's dominate now. Eye contact breaks, Ren leaves the frame, and she hits that last line solo. Ren's gone. lights.
Quite an interesting analysis! I'll have to watch it again with that in mind! The concept of the hallway being the mind makes a lot of sense, as you said not a big jump. But the rest I will have to watch with the competing "sobriety/clarity" vs "outline/numb" concept on my mind! I love the thought and appreciate the comment! Any way you slice it, truly a work of art - visually, vocally, sound design, cinematography, the works! Such incredible use the hallway acoustics! Inner struggle and inner dialogue are the star of the show in Hi Ren - so it being more subtle here isn't much of a stretch!
This one has been difficult to listen to lately. I think because when I was really sick, dying, and bed ridden last year, "I'm still here in this bed that I crawled in/I hope that I'm someone else in the morning" was a lifeline to knowing I wasn't alone. That trauma has had some consequences In a weird way, I am someone else now. I'm still me, but stronger and less afraid to face my past and myself. The future still feels like uncertain territory, but I don't really know what to do with my present either at the minute. When you're groping your way forward in the dark with bare feet, it's okay to be afraid of stepping on glass Great reaction, sorry I'm catching it late, I caught strep! I'll be fine, got antibiotics yesterday and already improving
No fun! I have horrible memories of strep as a kid, as it ended up being fairly impactful to my middle school years. I can imagine that "How to be Me" that I did after this one is a bit closer to where you are now! Learning how to be you again after going through tragedy! I hope you keep clawing forward! Thank you for the support!
I haven't checked out any of her solo work yet, but I have added a couple of suggestions to my list! Fingers must be good because others have also suggested it! Thank you so much for commenting!
Several had suggested this one! Sounds awesome. Her voice is so lovely and they match each other's energy and presence to well! Thank you for the suggestion and the support!
It's a beautiful song with so much power, passion and meaning. These 2 together gel so well and it's hard not to get emotional each and EVERY time you watch it. As much as I love this song, I actually prefer 'How to be Me' slightly more. Not sure why as it's not quite as powerful per se but you'll see what I mean. Love your reactions, you seem a real good dude.
Thank you for the suggestion! You aren't alone. Many people have said the same. Thank you for commenting and for the support! I'm enjoying my slide into the Reniverse as they say!
How To Be Me is another duet with Queen Chinchilla and is just as, if not more, incredible than this one. Ren is a master of 1 takes if you hadn't noticed :)
It had to be pointed out to me about the 1-takes, but now that I know I can't unsee it! So amazing! How to Be Me is on the list to react to! Hopefully get to it soon!
A common bulking agent/carrier in oral medication/tablets is chalk. The outlines are those tablets effects described in chalk. Another common bulking agent/carrier in oral medication/tablets is whey or milk powder. I have to take an anti seizure medicine as a I have a benign tumour in the back of my head. All was going well with the medication, constant headache stopped. Swollen Lymph nodes went down. Mental capacity improved, confusion reduced, able to see six moves ahead again in chess again. Stopped feeling constantly sleepy. No more absence seizures, no more full seizures, no new lost memories, the memory loss what caused me to consult the doctor. Then they changed my medication to a generic form, that uses whey as the bulking agent. I am lactose intolerant. So I spent the next month with awful wind, bloating and white stool 8 times plus a day, had to put two extra notches in my belt, great weight loss pill. Lots of people noticed how thin I was... My original diagnosis was bone cancer, with the weight loss everyone was thinking it was that. And of course because everything was flushing through my bowels so quick, the medication was not being properly absorbed so all my symptoms started to come back starting with the headache. Managed to persuade my Doctor and Pharmacist to put me back on the original so everything OK again, but the medication is in reality only treating the symptoms. I will probably have to have surgery to remove the tumour, problem is that it is back of the head near the base next to all the important stuff, the bits that control the heart and bladder the latter is embarrassing, main blood vessels to the brain. The medication was working though and most symptoms had gone away. Last Wednesday they did some tests to see if they could partially trigger the seizure while monitoring it so they can plan the operation they tried photo bit that does not trigger it the one that triggered it was hyperventilation. They succeeded in triggering it. So headache back for the last five days, lymph nodes were back up for four days, back down today. Confusion returned until this morning, though Friday in hospital for a heart monitor I had trouble remembering my address. Memory was better by Saturday as was mental capacity but I would prefer not to have that test again. So now I just have to wait until they decide when and whether to operate. Suppose next be more MRIs does not show up well on CT scan. Saw the last MRI it is about the size and shape of a Victoria plum.
Thank you so much for sharing your story! I’m so sorry that tumor has caused so many issues. I used to be a pharmacy technician (did that to put myself through my undergrad degree), but I remember the pharmacist I worked for mentioned that was the only real difference between brand name and generic drugs. However, often times different generic manufacturers use different bulking agents. So if you can’t afford the brand name, it might be possible to find a different generic manufacturer who doesn’t use lactose. But apart from that, I’ll be praying you have a swift recovery after successful surgery! It must be extremely frustrating to feel so out of sorts when the norm for you appears to be quite high functioning! Thank you for the support and the additional insight into the beautiful song!
I was put on antidepressants to cope after my Dad dying in my arms from a heart attack and a year later my Mom committing suicide. She walked off my property and disappeared. She was found 20 days later 😢. I hit a black hole and am a S survivor. Some of the antidepressants made me feel numb and like a chalk outline. I’m on the correct ones now. I don’t hit the very low feelings as much. Stress makes chronic pain even worse. Great reaction 💜
Thank you for the support! I’m so sorry you went through that tragic loss of both parents. And then having medications cause additional issues. I’m happy to hear you are doing much better and don’t have extremely low moods as much. Ren has such a message of hope, it is inspiring to us all!
As a mental health professional, I strongly encourage you to look into the now debunked relationship between mood and levels of serotonin. We have known for at least a decade that the science of such a relationship was a question mark at a minimum. We have known now for 3 years that there is no such relationship. Yet we still purport these things. It’s a shame. And that’s a message sent in this art. “Take this one, wash it down, and you’ll be fine”, while they obviously know this idea is absurd. It is the LMHCs, psychologists, psychiatrists, MDs, NPs, etc etc who need to do their research. Ren has clearly done his. Clinical psychology Ph.D
Thank you for the comment! I will definitely look into this! I am always one to keep learning and understanding more about what is involved with mental health processes! I hadn't heard it was debunked. As an LMHC I don't prescribe and rarely recommend medication in general unless it is as short-term and as mild as possible only to provide relief to start filling a toolbox with tools to help manage emotions and properly process things with the goal of not needing medications at all. But I will definitely look into this more as I am genuinely curious to see more current understanding on this relationship.
He has mentioned when he was signed with a record label around the time he got sick he was going around doing promotional gigs he would sleep in the car until he went on. Perform on stage. Leave the stage to go to the bathroom and throw up blood and ho back and pretend nothing was wrong.
So sad he put himself through that. His recovery journey has been a long one. He is definitely the type of person to push through discomfort to attain his goals. Thank you for commenting!
Nice reaction. If not already said, the chalk outline is supposed to be connected to feeling numb and like a zombie. Yes this song is addictive, you have to watch it again and again. Which is why it's fun to see new reactors. You're definitely a renegade. He calls Chinchilla his soul sister. :)
REN’s relapse is a physical one not a mental one. Symptoms of his lime’s disease so to do with the autoimmunity is the thing that he needs treatment for. I think it had something to do with his eyes but I’m not sure.
Others had mentioned that he hurt his eye while shooting a video a while back and thought it was healed, but his autoimmune relapse also caused his immune system to basically attack his own? That's just what others said in the comments. Regardless, I hope he is on the road to recovery and it happens more swiftly than expected!
Thank you so for the support and for the well wishes for me and my family! I hope yours is doing well too. Thanks for joining me on my Ren Journey! I'm having so much fun doing it, seems each song is full of thought-provoking lyrics and performance!
I wonder. The psychologist, and the people that help people. They go down that route for a reason. So who's there to say. Hay how you doing. "No not joey voice". I wonder these people that take in everyone's pain. How they are when they lay there head. Sitting at the table with there children. After listening to, I don't speak to therapist. But if I did, idk if he's sleeping brilliant at night after dealing with. So many lives, let's all appreciate this man 🙏 beautiful selfless soul. I don't believe in God but if I did people like you are gods children. And you are here not just to make a change to everyone else's lives. To set a purpose for your own. God bless you.
Thank you so much for the beyond kind words! Some nights are harder than others that’s for sure. You develop some skills over time to “prevent transference”… but it happens sometimes despite our best efforts. But if sharing a scar or two makes the road easier for someone, how is that not worth it? I just have to be diligent about tending to my own mental needs, or I’m no good to anyone including myself. It’s a calling and a passion. Wouldn’t trade it for anything. Thank you for the love. It lifted my day!
@Coping_Skillz brother. We may be from different places, america is not so different to where I live in England. We're all the same. Same struggles, my past is very dark and if you can find the time to listen to my lyrics If you click on my tab. I've only uploaded one. But this is a struggle for many English I'm not saying react. But coming from your professional stance. I'd love to hear your feed back. Again not a reaction I'm not looking for clout. Just genuine interactions. You open up alot of things inside me which I suppose you do with many others that's never got help. In understanding. But I understand somebody like you. Have to go through similar trauma to want to do this. And taking in so much trauma must be hard. We are all human. You really are the definition of that. And you give people like us hope there's humanity left. As ren,we gravitate to ren for a reason. Its more then music. We're all connected, keep well and even if you never hear my verse. Just know your loved for you!. And keep doing gods work!.
It's like when the unstoppable force meets the immovable object! A beautiful explosion of creativity! I agree with your sentiments! It's already on the list but moving up rapidly! Thank you again for the support!
I will be 100% honest with you. You got so lost in the performance that you maybe forgot that you had an audience to connect to (I don't mean that you need to pause etc). You got there in the end. Liked and subscribed. We need to get you more subscribers ! Also with the name Coping_Skillz I think I expected more of a breakdown from a mental health perspective.
Thank you for the honest feedback! I consider all feedback to be inherently valuable. The plan was to break it down more from a mental health perspective... but I gotta say I got caught up in the performance! I appreciate the support and the compliments as well! I'm new to this, so learning how to be genuine and continue to be connected with the audience I hope will improve over time!
@@Coping_Skillz Yes, I hear you. I am subscribed and will follow your reactions. It will get easier as you build your confidence. I hope you know that my feedback was intended to help you not knock you down
**ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED** congratulations! You have discovered new ren friend chinchilla! She has a few other collabs witj ren, how to be me (live) is one of my favorites, also mental health related. And i think its safe to say you are officially a renegade 😊 love to see it 🥹💜💜
Now all I can think of is what other achievements there are to unlock! Thank you for the suggestion!
@Coping_Skillz keep falling down the rabbit hole, youll see 🤣💜
The loud chair is an Easter egg cherophobia ( pronounced chair ) is the fear of being happy 🇬🇧😊
Wait until you see 'how to be me' (live)
Several have been suggesting this! I'm excited for that one and will definitely get to it! Thank you for commenting and for the support!
Yes...do that one next ❤❤@@Coping_Skillz
Chalk outlines = walking dead = zombies
I feel like I keep coming in like a lecturer, but it kind of really bothers me when people give information wrong leading to reactors having bad information.

Thank you for commenting! Others have mentioned the song suicide as well. It’s on the list! Difficult topic but super important!
I'm sure you've had a thousand requests for Jenny and screech. Can't wait to hear what you have to say about that one.

“Balanced on your toes … gallows”
For me, that is the feeling of barely surviving because of how your mind and body is reacting to things.
Wisdom comes with age for sure! And it also comes with perspective! Now you can share your perspective to younger people you may interact with and possibly prevent something similar from befalling another!
Thank you for commenting!
See how his lyrics are open to perspective... For me, it tells how you are struggling to breathe, fighting to just keep it all together.
Great as always..❤❤❤ I see tracing ourselves in Chalk Outlines as willingly taking medication that makes you feel dead inside...just so that you can cope..
Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy watching my Ren Journey as I am having experiencing it!
I've seen other people comment that the chair jump scare is an Easter egg .. Cherophobia is the fear of being happy
If so, that is an incredible easter egg! Fits right into that line about "Take it just in case"
@@Coping_Skillz and "I'm scared of being ok, cause all things change"
Great reaction, thanks for sharing, I think You are ready for "the Tale of Jenny and Screech" full version, then You'll be officially a RENegade.

Ouch! Man, I bet that was scary as hell! Glad it is t permanent, hopefully he is on the mend soon!
The engagement between them was a spontaneous act by Chinchilla because it "Just felt right for this". Both of them are serious dramatic artists. They are musical siblings and are so great together.
(I am a bit saddened to hear that other counselors haven't presented this concept, but I don't want to sound judgmental - as counselors a lot of insight comes with experience and continuing to educate ourselves!)
It's a well-documented concept about change (relapse being part of the process), if you want to know more about what I'm referring to you can search for information on "The six stages of change" concept!
Yes, it is so demotivating to feel like "a failure" and an easy pit to fall into. But without "failure" we can't really have success!
Reminds me of an anecdotal story I've used in sessions before.
A very successful businessman was asked by a reporter - "How did you learn to make such good decisions in business?"
He replied simply - "By making bad decisions."
Learning from our mistakes is a vital part of life!
Thank you for the kind words and for the support!

Yes, all hoping for a sharp turn toward healing and recovery! Music is definitely most definitely in REN’s Soul! Thank you for the comments!
I've been looking forward to another reaction from you. Thank you for this. I'm still suggesting Power 😬 it has a great message AND it's fun. Thank you again! 💯
It's quickly rising up the list! Several people are on the Power hype train!
@@Coping_Skillz woohoo! Thank you!
Your eye contact makes me feel like i,m not alone. So thank you for that.♥️
Thank you for the kind words! I'm trying to get better at making more eye contact with the camera. I'm so happy to hear it has had a positive impact - even if it was just for you!
Thank you for the support!
One of the most impactful lines for me in this song was . Such a perfect day, take it just in case, take it just in case.
So impactful! Such an exemplary of expressing those emotions of fear/anxiety/sadness!
Nice. Not many realise when he says ‘bury myself with a great big smile’ is meant to be sarcastic/ironic.💕👍🦇
Thank you for playing and analysing this ! It's a beautiful song ❤
I agree, so beautiful! Their voices and “presence” intertwine so lovely!
Thank you for commenting and for the support!
Oh and yeah Chinchilla is a superstar like Ren and also under valued a lot to begin with too
Thank you so much for the comments!
Ren and friends are all amazing
They really are! Thank you for commenting and for the support! His choice in collaborators here is incredible!
Ren said chinchilla is his musical sibling
They harmonize so well, but that was just the icing on the cake! The way they engaged with each other and fed off each other's energy and passion was breathtaking! Thank you for the comment and quote from Ren!
Great, great advice! I hope people struggling find you & listen to you. Awesome reaction too!

Thank you so much for commenting and for the additional detail!
u should do Ren( how to be me) which has Chinchilla in it too great reaction
Yes…this! Then follow up with Power for REN singing about his coping skills!
Did someone say coping skills??? Let me move that one up the list a bit! lol
Yes, watch this one on your own. REN has been through so much and still does, but his resilience is an inspiration to so many of us.
Thank you for sharing this! I'll be sure to check it out.
@@Coping_Skillz James 1:2-4 - is one of my favorites....hope is essential...keep delivering it!
You get me!
(quick tangent; the way they captured that sound is ridiculously impressive.)
Now, look where she lands up.
That trauma has had some consequences
In a weird way, I am someone else now. I'm still me, but stronger and less afraid to face my past and myself. The future still feels like uncertain territory, but I don't really know what to do with my present either at the minute. When you're groping your way forward in the dark with bare feet, it's okay to be afraid of stepping on glass
Great reaction, sorry I'm catching it late, I caught strep!

It's a beautiful song with so much power, passion and meaning. These 2 together gel so well and it's hard not to get emotional each and EVERY time you watch it.

Good to hear things are well with your family and glad to be along for your Ren journey!
