The sky arts awards, I would imagine most of these people never heard of REN or at least this song. Also I detect some condescension, sarcasm, simplicity in his cadence. He rapped slowly and clearly, making sure they heard every word. As if these lyrics were designed for this very crowd. You could hear a pin drop during the performance. The way he says mother F-(&ers seems to confirm my suspicions. Of course they loved it 😍
Man, because of how hard it is for me to get comments to even write I waited until the end and now I know I'm forgetting things I meant to say. Oh well. This song is why Evil Ren in Hi Ren did the She Sells Sea Shells rhyme when talking about Ren's buggest successes being stolen. Apparently that part got used as an audio clip on TikTok or something and went a little viral. Immediately switching from shells to oil was a bit of a double because Shell Oil Co actually did start as a shell company. The line he messed up in the live was Sell water to a fish, sell time to a clock. I was also impressed he managed to not trip up at all... I don't sing, but I did do high school debate and, man, that kind of thing very easily cascades into a hot mess. That was, indeed, Romain with him. I freaking love it. This was not only Ren's first TV appearance, it was his first performance with an audience that wasn't there specifically for him. Also, the only other performance he'd done in years was his Secret Garden Party festival. Then, consider he decided to do freaking exposed af acoustic performance with only him, a mic and a guitar... AND he chose a song about the power pipeline to perform in front of an audience of elites... AND we later found out he was already feeling pretty bad. He didn't even let that show in the behind the scenes, but after he released the news of his relapse he addressed the people who were saying he didn't look great with, like, yeah, there's a reason for that. I think the hat was because the lights were hurting his eyes. Anyway, all that and what I really wanted to say was that I was so glad he had Romain there for him. It was just a small part in the behind the scenes, but they showed a second of rehearsal where they were discussing Romain being ready to improvise if Ren messed something up too badly. It had to mean so much to have someone he could trust like that there with him. An aside on their friendship but not having to do with this, specifically - Romain posted yesterday a little bit about his musical journey. I had no idea he didn't even speak any English when he moved to Brighton... looking for a way to jumpstart his music but also hoping to make real friends. Just a small mention of Ren - it was only a few paragraphs - but their coming together was fortuitous for him, as well. The world really worked in their favor in that intersection in life.
Oh, I remember the thing! Yes, I do remember the PSAs about advertising tricks! The one I remember most vividly is where they picked through like 10 boxes of cereal to get the very best formed flakes and then used glue as milk to make it all pretty 😅 They put that line of informative messaging out after the Truth In Advertising laws got passed. I thought it was worth it to come back and comment as much because I've been saying for years that we don't need the stupid fairness rules for political speech that give "both sides" equal television time back, what we need is a version of Truth In Advertising for politics. Imagine if there were actual consequences for intentionally and demonstratably misleading the public in a forum that relies on trust and truth to adequately function? And a well-funded push to educate the masses on how to spot lies and/or debunk them? It was a game changer for advertising at the time and it would be a game changer in politics. Not a fix all, but a really good place to start.
Thank you again for all the extra detail! That’s awesome that Ren and Romaine have such a cool friendship. I’m glad he was there for him during that performance. Very interesting video and such amazing lyrics. Ren helping Romaine to learn some English is a pretty cool side note! You could tell Ren wasn’t himself and was straining in that live performance. But I’m glad he pushed through to deliver.
Very good point about the truth in advertising. And yes, if politicians were held accountable for all the lies and “slanderous” statements in their advertising- equal time wouldn’t matter as much at all.
@@lunadyana3330As we've seen, "fair and equal" only means a guaranteed platform for spreading lies. If one wants to push that measure, we need a better definition of "fair".
Interestingly Shell Oil started out as a company that sold shells, among other things, imported from the Far East in the 19th century before becoming an oil company.
It was Brighton Beach. The structure I believe is an old pier that burnt down a few years ago. The Sky Arts Awards was Romain Axisa again under the hood. The audience are the 'great and good' of the UK entertainment industry. A lot of powerful and wealthy people for the most part. It's quite typical of Ren to choose this song to perform in front of them.
That makes sense! Gotta display the greed of capitalism to the capitalists! Thank you for the additional detail. I was curious about those things. Was such a good song. Such a clever “nursery rhyme” lol. Thank you for the support!
The mistake during the second verse. He starts saying 'selling time to a clock' when he should be saying 'selling water to a fish'. He recovers well, did at Secret Garden Party too.
❤❤❤ Off to Ren school. 😊 Much more interesting than my old economics lessons in college 😴 Have fun in Jamaica! The Dredin' it podcast guys call Ren Renald and claim he IS Jamaican, lol. DeBeers Diamonds also convinced us that Diamonds were the rarest; In reality Sapphires, Emeralds, Rubies & other gems are much more rare. They used step 3 perfectly as well! Their campaign to convince us that every engagement and proper gift for someone must have a diamond has fooled us for a hundred years. Suckers!
100% Debeers executed all of these steps so well. They did it even better as they were the ones providing diamonds to pretty much all the other jewelry companies as well, they just did it have the Debeers logo. But they were all vehicles for them. Thank you for the comment as always!
Important to remember: all value is created by labor. No workers, no profits. The only power we have lies in our own ability to organize collectively and to collectively withhold our labor. The strike is the ultimate source of working class power, Nothing frustrates the powerful more than for the engines of profit to grind ro a halt as the peonsuse it to demand a higher share of the wealth that they create.
He was very ill during the live performance. Had to leave the stage. Don’t know how long after, but he was rushed to ER. It’s like that devil inside him tries to fuck up his life on the biggest occasions - like when after signing for Sony Records, it hit him with a vengeance and now during his first live national performance. 😢
@@Coping_Skillz yeah it’s sad. In some of his lyrics he says, “…I am half a man…” and “…I see your wings have feather, mine were torn by my oppressor (his illness)…” yet he still fights on.
Can‘t wait to see you react to money game part 3 😇 gonna be good 😈 Greetings from Luxemburg 😊 (and now you also know why the line „Ren mate, we‘ve heard it all before, she sells sea shells on the see shore“ in „Hi Ren“)
Consumers have the majority of power in setting value and prices - in a healthy market. ;) - Ren's ability to tell a story and engage people, generating meaningful thought and conversations, is remarkable. It is possibly his most impressive skill. (Wishing you well and hope you are having an awesome vacation.) -Reactors that can meaningfully add to the content, like yourself, are important to us in these communities, so thank you.
"Let's all go to the lobby, Let's all go to the lobby. Let's all go to the lobby, to get ourselves a treat!" I love how in the seashore version when he says "make a logo. do it properly" he has the TM on the end of "logo" making it "proper". hehe So glad you did the Skye Arts awards show. Those people heard the message however I wonder if they actually GOT the message. They are visibly uncomfortable when they show the audience.
I can't watch the Sky performance a second time . I knew he wasn't well straight away. Found out a week later the problems with his you tube channel and sick boi strike and the clinic in Canada tests coming back showing a return of the Lyme coinfection. I remember the concert that Justin Bieber did years ago that wasn't his usual standard and then he cancelled. The press wasn't kind saying he was being an entitled star but he was also suffering from Lyme disease and few people seem to know or care about these problems in a public performance
Took a lot of grit to see it through. People need to be more understanding when artists say they can’t perform. Otherwise they end up pushing themselves too hard and end up hurting themselves. Thank you for the comment. I can understand why you don’t want to watch that performance again.
I can’t wait to see you do MG 3 now. This one was a treat. I watched the Sky Arts Awards live and was so proud to see Ren getting his moment in the spotlight. I was also extremely worried about him. He’d been through so many stressful situations back to back in the months leading up to this show. It started just as he was ending treatment in Calgary. He should have been celebrating his #1 album and enjoying his time back in Brighton and reconnecting with friends and having fun. Instead it was legal hassles, YT hassles, etc. You’ll hear plenty about it as you get into the insanity around a greed driven legal issue about a song that meant so much to him, the song Sick Boi, the title track from his first #1 album. Sick Boi is the story of his own personal life journey. When you get into the rabbit hole around that, you need to watch Ren’s video detailing the issues with screen shots and receipts. It was a blatant attempt at extortion. That will bring you to his video Kujo Beat Down. During all of this he was still packing in as much life, fun and music as he could. Ren did his first live show in ages, Secret Garden Party. There’s some bad news he’d gotten about that just before the live show, as well had hearing he hadn’t beaten the Lyme co-infection. With Lyme, and autoimmune diseases the biggest threat to balance is stress, anxiety and exhaustion. That’s a fast track for a flare. I speak from personal experience. I can’t speak for Ren. Other people have commented here too about seeing little things that made them wonder if Ren was feeling off. He did a post in early October to update the community about his new health challenges and treatment plans. He said at the time that he was feeling a little bit better after being released from the hospital and was going to try and make videos and record as much new music as he could before leaving for Canada. 🥹❤️🩹 You’ll have a lot of material to go through when you come back from Jamaica.
Thank you for the thoughtful comment. Yes, Ren did look a bit nor himself during that Sky Arts Awards performance. Sad he pushed himself so much and had a flare up. Excited to see more of his journey to #1. Had a great vacation and you are right. Lots to wade through! Thank you for the support!
I hope you're having an amazing time in Jamaica, hope you say hi to Renaldo's family while you're there! 😜 Mind, his mum and sister are in Wales... I was definitely not sitting in my backyard waiting gor you to watch the Sky Arts performance. I forgot about the Brighton beach one somehow Romain is an amazing performer himself. I'd actually like to see you react to him sometime! Tears might be a good choice Have a happy vaycay and see you when you're home and rested!
Back from vacation! Thank you for the support! Was only in Jamaica for one day, so didn’t have enough time to visit Renaldo’s family… lol But had a good time. This was such a clever video and song. I enjoyed all the performances.
Yeah, since the Sky Arts Awards clip is fairly new, I forgot about it. Great to see the 3 back to back as you did here. I can't help but feel proud of our guy Ren in that TV setting. Felt bad for him since he made a mistake, but as you mentioned, he forged ahead. He's such a perfectionist, I know he beat himself up about it afterwards, but I hope he didn't stress about it too much. I'm not sure about the timeline of that show vs his recent flare-up of health issues. I also noticed that Ren did keep in pretty close contact with Romain during that performance, and I loved seeing that.
Absolutely! Was fun to do all 3 that I could find. Ren was definitely engaging with Romaine and staying close the whole time. Just sorry he had the flare up of health issues.
What?! Another bonus track! Lol glad you’re getting to see this one too. Of all the songs he could choose to sing to a crowd of the rich and powerful… lmfao it’s beautifully ironic! True Ren style!
I dont think Ren is quite well here. He has dyspepsia, is very pale and rushes out leaving Romain alone on the stage, and now afterwards we know, he some dayes later ended up in ER.😢
Yeah, he definitely didn’t look himself. So sad he ended up in the ER. Just glad he’s back on the mend. Hopefully that co-infection gets knocked out for good. Thank you for the comment!

Yes, that was the best part of that performance. You could tell he was speaking to the crowd directly!
