I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.
I have the same limbing saw best little saw I've ever used for $100 I only run 40:1 true fuel and echo bar n chain oil replaced bar with a 12" echo bar and chain also put a NGK plug in it. 2yrs I've used this saw it starts right up runs great cuts great. Even all stock the first year I had no issues that wasn't normal
Josh just a tip if you start a saw and run it wide open.without giving it enough time to warm up it will develop a big score in the piston in between the exhaust and bar.if you want to know more go watch Steve's small Engine saloons video titled never do this to a chainsaw he has great videos and tons of information l.

A good tip is to warm up ANY engine first. Your rings will thank you...especialy a 2 stroke

I have own one for over 4 months. I love this little cutter. When I go to cut 10 inch fireplace wood I use my Jon Cutter. It is light and stays sharp. Thank for confirming what I have discovered. I also own a Farmertec 372XP.
I just use a 45 year old Homelite saw. I got it for $11. It always starts on the second pull.
Figured I'd share -- after nearly 3yrs of SUPER reliable, surprisingly high-powered service (running 10" to 16"~!), on real job-sites as my primary/default climbsaw, *finally* it died or rather its compression is now so low that it isn't worth using, the chain stalls-out with any pressure, but that was my bad not having understood air-filters at the time I bought&setup the unit, it ate a TON of fines so in that context a 3yr lifespan would be expected for anything.
I did NOT buy another, I was very much on-the-line but the 2511t was just sooooo appealing, and I'm actually a climber 1st & foremost I mean my "interests" are my big displacement units but they don't get remotely the use my climbsaws, especially my smallest climbsaw, will get -- plus I was mid-job and the 2511t was available locally w/o shipment so was an easy choice (and my what a great machine it is, but I also own & love the 355t and will say I'd ALWAYS favored using my g2500-clone like the one from this video, though mine was badged "scheppach csp2540", would always take it up in a tree over the 355t, the 355t is great but it's overkill for 9/10 cuts I make here in coastal FL, if I could only use 1 saw it'd have to be the 355t for its capacity but it's nice having a lil 25cc to use for the 90% of cuts before trunk-wood, and the 2511t (on my scales triple-checked!) is a full 1.85lbs lighter than the g2500 clones *when full* both oil&gas, powerheads only, so yeah 7lbs to 5lbs that is HUGE for a climber, these g2500's have that super steep bar-angle though which I LOVE it's great I wish more climbsaws did that!
(BTW in this video you're rocking the 1.5" deep "front bumper" on the saw, just remove the 2 phillips screws and reclaim the 10% bar-length that thing is stealing from you ;) Also taking a grinder to the chainbrake's handle, making windows in it & just shrinking its borders, makes a huge difference in "perceived feel" and visibility of cutting while in use, makes it a VERY nimble lil machine!)
Those 25cc top handle chinese saws are sold under a wide range of names , they can be found on Ebay , Amazon etc. , I bought one a while back for about $100 Aussie and it came with a Stihl chain and a soft carry case . It's the same saw as this "Jon Cutter" , exactly . For a small acreage person like me or camping they are fit for purpose , mine has been trouble free .

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I will say I was in your neck of the woods last year. Maybe 20 to 30 miles away (around Greensboro). And there are so many nice people down there Josh. I will say you remind me somewhat of my uncle. An ex-marine, he is always straight and to the point and doesn't have time to waste his breath talking about nonsense. When I was a young chap I broke something while attending a picnic. He made me pay it off by working on his farm for two weeks. At like 10. I had to take care of the cows and goats. Stack hay in the barn. And push mow his and his dads yards I'm guessing just shy of 3 acres. Your not at his level. I will say he made for a great dad. He had 3 boys and 2 girls. Raised in the country on a farm and they are all amazing well accomplished adults. He had alot to do with how I am today. He sat me down and had some very interesting conversations with me in that two weeks. And if he was ever just talking to you. You listened because he never just talked. Just saying I can tell one day. Your going to be a great father. And I mean that.

I have one of these great little saw for the money. At the time I didn't have the money to purchase a Stihl or Husqvarna for my maintenance business so I got one just to use for one day on a job. I see these under different brand names but they are all the same. Since then it has done some serious work and 3 years later still going strong.
you should try leaning the high speed screw off the big saw. its 4 stroking alot. seems really rich
I wonder how you're still liking those Chinese saws. I bought the little joncutter top handle saw when this video was posted. I put .030" shim stock slivers around the bar studs to help hold the chain tension, but I like it. It still starts quick and runs great. I would like a finer pitch chain, but it has done a great job for $100.

G660 is a great saw. I tuned mine to where it is a almost lean and it has way more power. Just got to be careful you don't go to lean. Out of the box there usually a little fat.
And to think i thought I was the only one crazy enough to wear shorts while working in the forest. Way to go bro 👊
I'm not an arborist, but i LOVE my top handle saw for clearing trails. Being able to hold the branch with 1 hand and cut it with the other makes for such quick work.
I get the creeps whenever I see someone using a saw like that. You have no idea how dangerous that can be especially if you are situated out in the boonies. Really no good reason to put yourself in that situation.
This saw reminds me of my scheppach. It's still running over a year later and I still like using it. It even sounds the same and looks the same. The only difference I've found is the color. Same controls too. You got yourself a good saw.

Love that review and your channel. I worry for you, not because you are doing anything wrong, just not exactly right. That little saw's brake guard isn't meant to be used with your hand coming off the support side, it's meant to be engaged with your fingers around the handle, and you twist your wrist up to hit it while still holding onto the handle with your left hand. If you reach over the top to hit it on, your fingers are going to slip into the chain. Especially on such a small saw. If I had your large hands, I'd suggest just keeping your left thumb on the handles, and reaching over the top with just your fingers to pull back, and flick with your wrist to push. Good habit to get into. (Yup, I've done some sawyer work for decades). Still I appreciate all the work and I totally enjoy of your channel. Stay safe for the missus.
you got me interested in the Jon cutter arborist saw, great saw for trimming trees. you can buy a premix 50:1 like ECHO red armor. it is easier than mixing your gas and oil. I use it for my weed wacker, its great.
I have one love it! My buddy used it once and then went out and got himself one to. Ya got to be careful with them though I often find myself reaching out in in front of the bar to grab limbs and things putting my had inches away from the spinning chain. The fact that you can cut with one hand and grab the wood with the other is handy. But could probably be pretty dangerous if not paying attention. Great little saw though!
That tool with the sockets is called a “scrench” one socket for the bar cover, one side for the spark plug, and a flathead screwdriver end to tension the chain screw.
Both saws are well worth the $$. That small one is great! Looks like u will have enough firewood for a 3000sq ft home for 5 years.

Yes, mounting the bar and testing it doesn't prove much. Does run though.
Most of these chinese made saws if you can tinker, and know a little about chainsaws you can keep them running. Generally though if you just assemble them, and add gas, and bar oil they don't last very long. Both these saws sounded like they need a tuning and the Joncutter is aptly named because at 14:15 his chain wasn't too tight the thing was literally running the chain with the chain brake locked. So if not careful this thing really is a "John Cutter".

I have the same saw, the little one and it never gave me any problems, if you warm it up a little before start cutting, and dont leave gas inside just like every saw must be treatedthey just go
When starting saw do not let pull grip fly back in. It will brake plastic parts when it hits, especially when below freezing!

the t-shaped chainsaw wrench you called it is called a squinch in some cases on the name brand saws it adjusts your chain tension the bar nuts and carb adjustments
I use a stihl about the exact same size as that blue 1 all the time 4 cutting firewood and i cut alot of frickin firewood i use it 2 heat my home in minnesota and i sell it 2 make a living throughout the winter well into the spring and in the summer but not as much

I was taught by my grandfather (now I am a grandfather)
that when cutting GREEN limbs,
to make an upward cut, NO MORE THAN ONE THIRD through.
Be aware of the danger of a kickback.
Then make a connecting cut from the top to intersect the upward cut
but slightly outside of the upward cut.

Sounds like the blue saw needs more rpm... bet a High speed adjust would make a huge difference.
Some of those big saws are low rpm saws for torque
Rpm for that saw is 13500 it’s not low rpm

The handle is is multi use, for the file/screw driver handle. Yes it is one hand saw for tree cimlbers for limbing trees when your other hand is holding on to the tree.
@17:20 when you took your hand off the throttle and moved it to near the bar as the engine was ramping-down, gotta say that worried me a bit!
LOVE your channel, found it via the Holzforma(sp?) un-boxing and, seeing what you're doing, am subscribing as my short-term goal is to get the land that'd let me start my long-term goal of making it into something (much like what you're doing!)
Re your Jon Cutter:
- Are you always using 25:1? I've got the "Scheppach CSP2540", which I'm 99.9% sure is identical (these saws come in at least 3-4 different colors/badges), and mine's a 40:1 although, for convenience's sake, I just use 45:1 so I can use same fuel on all my machines (I've been pushing mine hard for 8mo, in-canopies and on-ground, and it's totally my favorite saw!!)
- A big guy like you - or anyone, IMO - isn't going to need the dogs on that saw, and by removing the lil plastic bumper the dogs are screwed-into will give you about 1.75" *extra* cutting-length!! Mine came w/ a 10" bar, so 8.5" usable (or 8.25" if I count the dogs' protrusion), I removed that and put a 12" echo bar&chain on so 8.25"--->12" effective cutting length, BIG difference! It doesn't bog or anything although admittedly I do keep my chain's rakers/depth-guides filed pretty low, and keep my chain razor sharp & keep the oiler on max! But I'm probably half your size (a skinny, 5'7" guy right here!) and I couldn't imagine a use where I'd need the dogs it's just too-small a saw to warrant them especially when you're gaining 10-20% cutting-length by removing them!

I just purchased a John cutter 58cc and I absolutely love it. I liked it so much I made a video as well. I cut down a big birch tree in front of my house and the saw was working better as I started to work it in I am very impressed with this saw it looks exactly like a Husqvarna and I can buy parts from them as well and your blue chainsaw is made by the same company
Great video of chainsaws we have a Jon Cutter 5800 $130 from Hultz it's a back up saw. It's strong and decently built and so far it a good saw its in the Rancher 460 or Echo 590 chainsaw range. Thanks for sharing.

Just picked up one of those little top-handle guys...I mean EVERY review I've come across says that they are really quite good, and one helluva value! Yeah, the Stihls and Huskies are nearly twice the displacement, but for the average joe with zero to little land, could be something of a match made in heaven!
i'm old now at 71 and not a cowboy, but used to own horses in my younger days, and myself along with my pals back in those days we all called Chaps...sounds like shaps, and i don't know if that is right or wrong but that's what we all called them, but most likely either way is correct!
Nice little limb saw. I have an Echo that is handy for bushes and small limbs.
I bought a similar one and it seems to work fine. It was my 1st gas chainsaw and if I had to do it over again I would spend some more to get 50:1 gas/oil not 25:1. The higher oil ratio makes it burn very dirty and you have to breathe blue smoke the whole time.
You can run 40-1 premixed gas in the prowler puppy no problem.
That small saw is what I need to trim overgrowth which is in the area where I go with my tractor and bushhog. I need a saw like the small one to cut down that overgrowth and get the limbs out of the way. That large saw is a monster and what someone would need if they worked for the forest service, but it looks like a cheap off brand saw though.
It's called a 'scrench'. Screwdriver/wrench combo. I am a chainsaw guy, young(er) at 32, but I have a good twenty proffessional saws, and I am experimenting with a few Chinesium saws. The Joncutter top handle is adorable and fun to run, it's also much lighter than the Stihl I usually climb with. The 372 clone is running about 1,000 rpm shy of it's stock, Husqvarna brother but I like it too so far. It may make up the speed difference in the tuning, and is in dire need of new hoses, a better plug and pretty soon new seals. Also the oil pump is trash. Either way, two thumbs up for the little Joncutter, I bought four Chinesium bars and chains to go with it~ 🍸
i got the eksakt the same saw as the joncutter, just black and another brand name.
i love it, i`m doing some arborist work, and i´m taking it with me op into the treetops, its light and easy to work with.
BUT i hate were the put the on/off button, a lot of times i accidentally switch it off, with my thomp.
but that is so far the only annoying thing about it.
You need to get a kd722 blade for your Ventrac, works great in snow and clearing trails and brush
Two years later Jon Cutter 25cc chainsaw is now around $160.00 without bar and chain. But still worth the price in my opinion.
All chainsaws are designed to be run with two hands. The glory of a top handle is it is balanced to where it doesn’t wear you out when using it in a tree👍
Yes if you read the manual, it will say never operate with one hand. Lots of people do, but unless you are a professional I would warn you against it. These top handle saws are prone to kickback and far more difficult to control when it does.

I have a saw similar to the JonCutter called an Ozito. It was on sale for $79 AUD so like $50 USD. It was great I had it 2 years and used it while camping and help my mum cut small timber for her in winter. If you're using it very little the small cheap saws are more than adequate if you sharpen them regularly.
I bought this right after your video posted. I found the engine runs great, but it needs carb adjustment often... maybe vibrating out. I needed to bend .020" shimstock slivers around the bar studs due to excessive slop, and finally, I made the mistake of trying to cut a grapevine and it grabbed and pulled the chain out of track. It still works, but I want the echo 2511T now.
In the winter Josh will need some shaaapstick, to go with his shaaaps.

It sounded like it was not tuned well at all after a little use. You can hear the rpm's climb as it idles or it has an air leak.
For a home owner, a power pruner may also be a good option. Echo and Stihl makes one or two models.
I don’t know if it is as heavy as a Moped but it is heavy. I built one last year and have it decked out with a 24 inch bar and chain. However it is a reliable saw and will cut through just about anything. I have ordered the G2500 but it has not come in, yet.
Its a fine saw. I have a benson from Holland its the same saw works great.
I am no arborist or professional chainsaw guy. I like the idea of using those cut resistant gloves for handling the bar and chain. They are snug fitting on the hand and provide some protection to those all important digits. Nothing loose around the chain.
I also like to use Amsoil 2-cycle oil. It is 100:1 and is excellent. I used it in my moped, chain saw, and Stihl FS-80 weed eater. Basically try to anticipate how the limbs and trees are stressed and how the cut may pinch. And don't get in a hurry. Be safe.
The top handle saw is a great little machine, I have two and they are great for climbing there is a few things you can do to make it cut better. Firstly you can put a 1/4” bar chain and sprocket and it’ll run loads better then tune it up. The g660 would benefit from a sprocket nose bar, high output oil pump and a tune to around 12500 to 13000rpm
Think I just found my next purchase. I've been doing some arbor work on the side of my full time (also certified arborist there) and a climb saw is the only piece of gear I havent acquired yet, which keeps me from doing all the big money climbing jobs. Figure this will be able to handle a few jobs to net me the capital for a stihl
I've only used stihl top handle saws and don't even want to bother with a different brand

When you cut limbs off of trees make the bottom cut about a quarter of the way threw the limb then cut the top it helps a lot and also you might know this but you should cut the limb off not right at the tree but a Inch off the tree where the limb starts and leave the lump or knot on the tree to heal up if you leave to much limb it’ll rot out a hole in middle of the knot and you cut to much of the knot off it won’t heal right! WooOOOOOooo
Here's my two cents I just bought the stihl MS 251c it was the best saw that I could afford and I love it after every use I pull it apart and clean it wipe it down make sure I refile my teeth hopefully it'll last a lifetime
For my small (Arborest) saw I'll keep my Husqvarna T-435. Well all my chainsaw's are Husqvarna's but my all time goto saw in my modle-61.
The 61. Good saw. High compression saw. He has no use for that big bar on that 660.

Nice looking little saw. It takes all kinds of tools to do different jobs and small tools are handy too. Thanks for the info since I've not seen one like it before and was looking for just such a tool. I call my big old chainsaw my Man-killer. Because like your big one, it's a workout just using it. But it's an old Echo and works all day. I have an OLD Stihl from the 1940's made in Germany that uses 20/ 1 mix. No chain brake back then and it works like a champ. Good Luck .

Looks like the new small Husqvarna arborist saw! Thanks for the video Josh! 25:1 ratio seems very heavy mix for such a small saw! Thats almost 5 oz per gallon! My 250cc 2 stroke dirt bike doesnt even have that heavy of a oil/gas mix haha either way awesome video!
Depends, my chainsaw says 25 :1 when you use the same oil that goes into your car and 40:1 or 50:1 (for modern chainsaws) when you use dedicated 2 stroke oil. So, I assume he uses car oil. Have a nice day :)
Leopold71 hmmm interesting! I’ve never mixed any 2 strokes with engine oil for the ratio but that’s interesting to know.
If you have many high branches to cut, you could consider a long reach pole pruner reach ranges from 1.8mtr to 2.5mtr, they are very handy, i own one.
I have a pole saw....I think I did a video about a year ago on how to use one properly and safely...I love it!
If you want the best power to weight ratio pro saw try Holtzforma's 372xp (Not the newer model 372xt) clone of the Husqevarna 372xp. I have ran my Husky 372xp for 15 years. I bought it when I was a foreman for Asplundh for $500 through the company dealer. I have been averaging 6+ face ricks of firewood plus lots more non burnable each year personal use and have only replaced bars and chains. It is way past time for a new chain sprocket (66 cents through Holtzforma) and a new reasonable gas tank assembly would be nice as mine finally cracked slightly so it leaks if stored with more than 1/2 tank of gas but I have been using as is for the last few years. Will cut the hardest wood like butter and straight, no bogging even now if chain kept sharp. Has the best designed easiest to clean air filter of any saw I've ever used and I'm still using the original. I haven't personally used the Holtzforma clone of the 372xp, but it and the JonCutter 2500 are going to be purchased soon to see how well they stack up to the originals!
They have a Sthil clone like o20t also mabey it's 35cc . the scrench is screw driver and wrench combination
Also my favorite is the 40cc husqvarna 540t climbing saw. I am an arborist for 20 years
The best thing you can do for your self packing that 066 clone is buy a factory Stihl light weight bar and buy it as short as possible weight is everything with those saws. If you put say a 28 inch bar you can even run a one tooth bigger drive sprocket on and it will cut faster.
Do a muffler mod and tune to both saws and see them open up. World of difference.

Thanks, Josh, for sharing this video! I've been wanting to add a small chainsaw to my overland gear and the Jon Cutter could handle my needs, i.e. cutting limbs for a small cooking campfire. Presently I use a Silkie Gomboy 240 for sawing limbs but if I can streamline time and effort it gives me more time to do the activities I enjoy much more, target shooting and fishing.

Buy a Stihl and you are paying for a name. Echo is just as good at a cheaper price.
as far as a homeowner ( or a beginner with chainsaws) it is usually better to go with a rear handle saw like the stihl ms 170 they run about $150 and are usually safer as the top handle can be harder to control kickback less leverage when the saw kicks.

What kick ? Proper cut = no kick, 25cc T saw has very little kick to begin with unless you've softwrist . . . best practice keeping both hands on that beast.

I have one of these little top handles too, I find it way more dangerous than my 50cc normal saws, it will kick back way easier without the leverage of a rear handle to help you hold it. I like mine too, its easier to limb trees with it but you have to mindful of it and not hit anything with the tip of the bar, it feels light like a toy but isn't lol.
@@dlostyles2578 the point is that if you are just starting out you are less likely to know best practises and how to avoid kickback etc after a bit of time on a saw kickback becomes much more controllable and avoidable but a top handle saw is less forgiving.
@@iliketobuildstuff7013 find proper wrk position (esp in tree arborist) so to be able to have both hands on said saw(s) whether top or rear handled or cc's even makes absolutely no difference. Keep both hands on the saw , safety first , & protect yourself at all times!
Just because u can hold it with one hand doesn't mean necessarily that u can cut that way all day & in every position.
I will agree inexperienced tree care enthusiasts should most definitely use traditional rear handled saws till properly trained.
I'm a veteran climber with over 20 yrs in th field I use on a daily 3 different hot saws a re-jugged suped-up 2013 stihl 201T , a 2009 stihl 192T & a echo 355T all with 16" bars and I'm not a ginormous dude & wield them very well . . . I also use big saws in-tree as well my buck saws range from 50cc to 92cc rear handled, & felling saws 64cc to 110cc with 25-60" bars.

just a warning this saw is made under many names the top handle front mount broke on mine and went straight for my leg revving up as the throttle linkage was being pulled with handle separating only stopped because kill switch wire got ripped off
That big saw is half the speed of my Echo Timberwolf.

A big heavy saw that doesn't cut fast is a waste of money at any price point. The only point of a big saw is to hit big rounds and that thing was bogging out on small rounds. Life is too short to mess around with garbage equipment.

Sounds like you could adjust your high jet or just adjust your jets on the big saw they usually require that after break in
I picked up a used McCulloch Power Mac 310 for £20 (about $30) built to last, saw runs perfect. Add a carb kit and a fuel line and you're at maybe $45 and you can spend the rest on fuel, two stroke oil, bar oil and maybe a couple of beers
Scabbard is the term I use for the bar cover and the tool is known as a scrench.
It's a lot a fun buying chinese made saw for cheap, but then very soon I got a leaking gas cap , could no longer set the carburator, I spent a gallon of gas just to try to adjust it , it is not possible to fix or replace a single simple parts, once something goes wrong it's good for the dump. I figure the dump is big enough as it is.
Yep, mine was JUNK too......the parts you see on ebay are Bullshit....they usually WONT even ship them to you, everything is "backlogged" from China, bla bla bla........better off buying a Running Used REAL saw on ebay......
My biggest/bestest advice I can give for any chainsaw (or ANY motor!!!) is---- DO NOT use ethanol gas!!! pay the extra for "Super premium", ethanol free!! (I Am a mechanic--- and I've just seen too many motors destroyed due the ethanol!! (Especially 2-strokes!!)
yep no ethonol in any power equipment on the farm
Ethanol can be removed by adding water , mixing and decanting , this will reduce the octane rating however but the addition of 2 stroke oil will then raise the octane rating somewhat . It's a workaround for where pure gasoline is hard to get .
@Billy Bob America a quick google search will have you at an ethanol free gas station in minutes. Premium isn't the only ethanol free gas. In fact most gas stations that carry ethanol free do not carry premium ethanol free. You're absolutely killing your wallet paying the ridiculous markup on pre mixed fuel. Search google for "ethanol free gas stations near me" and you'll find the right stuff my brotha
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer- I agree with the Google search to find a station that sells ethanol free... but my experience is... you might have to drive 30+ miles to the nearest station that carries it.
If you have fuel docks near you they always sell ethanol free fuel.
