I love King's Quest V and have never shied away from saying as much; it has that epic feeling, and every setting is gorgeous and whimsical. I just adore it, and have SUCH fond memories of playing it when I was young. I poke fun at Cedric myself, but share similar sentiments; I do like that he's there. Great insight on Serenia and previous games, and I appreciate that fantastic Dion joke.
Hey PushingUpRoses, I just wanted to say I agree with you 110%. KQ5 really does have an epic feel to it, and it IMO has the best art in the series (although some of the backgrounds in 7 are gorgeous). KQ5 was the first computer game I ever played and like you, King's Quest and Sierra in general was a cornerstone of my childhood. I also want to say I love your reviews (and your makeup lmao!) and I want to thank you for helping to keep Sierra's flame alive with your channel. I wanted to ask if you would consider reviewing any more of the SQ games (I loved your review of SQ6 - very touching retrospective on an underrated game)?
Lastly, I know you probably hate it, but would you consider giving Mask of Eternity a retrospective? Even though it doesn't have much in common with KQ's 1-7, it is Roberta's last game and she did put a TON of research and work into it over 3 years (I have her design notes from as far back as 1995 and she seemed dedicated to making KQ8 as epic as possible - a lot of her ideas had to be cut because they were too ambitious for the time), and it is one of the last games to be released by Sierra before it was gutted.

DARLING!! Jackie Chan was AMAZING!! Jim and I had the magazines and talismans and cards! ALL IN THE STEEL CASE! And watched the show whenever it was on!

This is the game that introduced me to Kings Quest via the many deaths of King Graham. Specifically "Never trust a bad guy, Graham"

That's something I will never miss about modern gaming. Playing for hours, only to find out you missed an item or such, and you can't finish the game, and have to start all over. I recall playing this, and being screwed because I ate the custard pie once I got it. I just quit the game at that point, didn't bother to restart.
I can't believe we put up with that kinda thing back then.
KQV was the first Sierra game that I ever played; it came in a pack of CD-ROMs that my parents bought me from Best Buy. I was hooked. And I fell in love with Sierra games along with poisonous snakes.

I hope your serious about Jackie Chan Adventures. That show was the bomb, and to this I can still hear Uncle yelling "ONE MORE THING!" in the back of my head.
Some how, they ported this game to the freaking NES. It was that big of a deal.
My first King's Quest was King's Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow. So when I think King's Quest, I think of Dangling Participles.
I love how bad Sir Gray Wolf is voice acted.
I play a lot of D&D and literally every time I read the description for Find Familiar or ever see the words "poisonous snake" anywhere I can't help but immediately thinking "PRAY YOU WATCH OUT, A *_POIIIISONOUS_* SNAKE!"

I think 5 was, for the longest time, the ONLY King's Quest game I played. And I believe it was the floppy version because, as a kid, I would have been completely lost with the talkie version due to the nearly impossible to understand voice acting.
And, somehow, my mom and I beat the game, despite a lot of the more frustrating bits.
And then my dad loaned the game to someone without asking either of us, and that person took off with the game and never returned it.
That wasn't the only thing he loaned without asking us and we never got back.
I would LOVE to see more King's Quest games here. Oh, and Gabriel Knight!!!

Kings Quest VII
I loved this game, been doing a walkthrough of the series. The bear kill where he punches you out makes me laugh every time. All I can see is Nick Cage in Wicker Man when punches out the lady while wearing a bear suit. 😂
Yeah King Graham dies from falling so often. I had a small stroke as a child like every time he let out his horribly loud scream
You know, it's reviews like this, and that "Broken Sword 2" collab with Caddicarus are what always draws me back into P-&-C Adventure Games regardless of how difficult they are for me at times. Keep up the good work!

This will always be my favourite King's Quest game together with King's Quest IV (which I actually played through for the first time last year).
It's such a memorable game in so many ways.

I think the reason people hate Cedric is more because he's useless, there is no reason for him to accompany you.
You have to pick him up from the ground to win the game, also I think he is supposed to be company for Graham, not a hint tool for the player.
if the game didn't force Cedric to be a meat shield for Graham, I would agree with you 100 percent! That character was useless, annoying, and unnecessary otherwise.

first game I think of? Mask of Eternity. I get it's nothing like the rest of the games, but I have fond memories of playing that when I was younger. As a stand alone game, it isn't the worst thing ever. Not perfect, but not complete trash.
Similar conclusion to what I came to. Not a bad game, but not amazing.

14:58 I missed the hook on Harpy Island. By the time it comes up I was 10 saves in and rolled over the island checkpoint. Entire playthrough down the drain.

4 and 5 are my favorites. 6 is certainly good, but I didn't really like the themes of the Green Isles.
