The entire plot of the film was spelled out by Ed after Shawn was dumped.
A bloody Mary first thing - The Zombie in their backyard is called Mary
Go for a bite at the King's Head - Phillip is bitten
A couple at the Little Princess - Diane, David and Liz's
Stagger back to the Winchester for shots - Pretending to be Zombies and shooting them when they break in
Edgar Wright is a genius when it comes to using foreshadowing. All his films have so many motifs and callbacks. I love this trilogy

the scene where she dies was titled 'Ever Decreasing Barbara', after the sitcom the actress used to be in called 'Ever Decreasing Circles' in the 80s. also, it's worth having the DVD edition if you don't already have in, or the bluray, there are so many extra features, the movie itself is a bonus, and the trivia subtitle track is a wealth of background information about the movie, and some comic book features that fill in a few plot holes in the movie

Honestly, that second "I'm sorry Shaun" legit makes me cry, yeah it's two dude bros making a fart joke in light of their emotional situation. But in another light, it's a dying man trying to give his best friend who he thinks he failed and almost killed just one last laugh before the end, the only thing he can do in his own mind to try and save his friend from shooting himself and his love interest. And since I saw it in that light, it's a very very touching scene that just breaks my weak little heart every time.

This is one of the best films ever. Every detail comes back around. Ed not locking the door, Shaun pushing the mirror to the walk to the shop in one take. Everything has a pre and post zombie meaning it's brilliant. It portrays how zombie like our life really are. This film deserves multiple watches to catch everything. The pub scene where it shows the real problems in their relationship framed in between them is genius. Plus everything Ed says about getting drunk starting with bloody Mary's and ending with shots and cocktails at the pub all come true. Plus the love between Ed and Shaun is so strong. This is one of the best trilogies hands down. Fun fact Dianne actually survives which is nice. If you want to know everything about how great this film is then I recommend FilmJoy and Cinema Wins they have great videos on this film. Great reaction keep up the great work you do and can't wait for you to see Hot Fuzz and The Worlds End.

Simon Pegg is a very underrated actor. He puts 100% into everything he does. 'Sean of the Dead' is one of my all-time favorites, and one of the best jokes is that you never find out how it all started. They did it that way to point out that "how it starts" isn't as important as the people in the story. I Love This Movie! Glad to see that you liked it, as well. :) You should defiantly watch the rest of the Cornetto Trilogy. You'll love it. And If you haven't seen 'Paul' yet, I would totally recommend it.

All the Cornetto films are just movie length versions of the series _Spaced_ ( _Shaun of the Dead_ more than up the others, they even re-used some jokes). _Spaced_ is brilliant. It ran for 2 series (seasons) and was cutting edge British comedy, like _The Office_ or _Father Ted_ (although this one is an Irish / British show) or _Red Dwarf_ or _Blackadder_ .

Fun fact. Shaun of the Dead is actually about Wrights and Peggs fear of relationship commitment as they saw themselves transition from being two friends who used to live together and now hang out at their local pub to being "working stiffs", or zombies if you like, with families and obligations.
Subtitle movie time. Watch Amalíe next, or at some point. Probably the best movie ever made in my humble opinion.

    • @KBTibbs
      @KBTibbs 3 роки тому +4

I think this is a really good point.
Typically zombies are a metaphor for the creeping inevitability of death. Maybe you can escape the first zombie and maybe the second and maybe the hundredth, but eventually you'll tire, your resources will dwindle, or a random unlucky hit will take you down. The horde will outlast you.
This movie brilliantly substitutes its own metaphor that shares the same shape. Fear of soul-crushing conformity making you into the "living dead". It's fantastic that Shaun and Ed are so desperate to survive this transition and see the Winchester (a symbol of their carefree days where they could get drunk) as their salvation.
I think that is partly why this movie succeeds as well as it does. Even making the metaphor more trivial (than death), the whole ordeal still means something more than scary, action set pieces.

He has said it was never meant or intended to be a comedy horror and that people need to stop calling it that. You're taking this WAY too seriously. Yes, there's gross parts but this is mainly a comedy. You gotta lighten up.

If you want to watch a much-neglected horror-comedy, go with "Dead & Breakfast"!

I remember seeing that one a couple of times, been about a dozen years or so, but I did enjoy it. Another one from around the same time I liked was Murder Party, also been a LONG time since I watched it, but just dug out the disc to see how it's held up for me over the years.

You know that other group of survivors that Shaun keeps running in to? The reason why that is there is because the leader of the other group is from the cast of a show Simon Pegg was in called Spaced. It's an amazing show that really captures what friendships in your 20s looks like. I highly recommend it.
