Hi Joyce, I just went to Joshua Tree National Forest a few weeks ago and it was well worth the drive. It was so quiet and peaceful just walking around. If you ever have the opportunity to go I highly recommend it.
Did the flight into the Canyon from there and the boat trip on the river when we where there. It really does give perspective on why it has the word Grand in front of it. It is one of those places that to really understand just hiw spectacular it is you have to stand at its edge. Pictures wet the appetite only.
Russ, we were there years ago just after skywalk opened. We drove gravel roads for 10-15 miles but drove all the way to skywalk it cost 25 per person back then (2014) .We absolutely loved skywalk and the hosts/guides that gave us the story and took many pictures while my wife, daughter and myself enjoyed the scenery! They don't allow cell phones, pictures on the skywalk. We purchased their package for like 100$ it was well worth it, we have those pictures for memories forever. Will never forget looking down thru that glass floor to the bottom of that big ole canyon far below!! Experiencing their culture and walking thru the older generational houses was eye opening and really neat. Guano mine was unbelievable also! Lotsa work to harvest bat poop! Hope you enjoy your time there! Keep on Truckin!
I just came back from a trip to Nevada, Arizona, and California. I watched many of your videos prior to going and went to many of the same places. I loved going to Joshua Tree National Forest. On the way back from JTNF I went to Bullhead City, AZ, Laughlin, NV, and spent two great days boating and jetskiing on The Colorado River. On the way back I stopped in Cal-Nev-Ari, Boulder City, and Searchlight, NV. Thanks for making the great videos.
👍 I remember when I visited Grand Canyon West in 1993. Back then, there was no entrance fee, no visitor center, no gift shop, no nothing, you brought your own water/drinks, food, and you drove up to the view points in your car. Getting there was an adventure too. Diamond Bar Road was an dirt road. You drove through a wash, so when it rained, it was unpassable since it turned into an river. You also drove through an area that looked like jungle where two cars barely could pass by each other. Then of course you had the wide open desert. Experience was unbelievable and all in one day.
My grandson was admiring your shadow when he caught a glimpse on the hike. Bus ride is nice, let them pay attention to driving, so you can take in the view! Exciting!
These Joshua trees look so stressed. & there's so many more of them than at Joshua Tree National Park. Beautiful scenery as you climbed up out of the valley area.
Hey Russ been watching your videos for a while now. I left Kentucky last Monday finally heading west. In Flagstaff today up from New Mexico. I’ll be on South rim tomorrow. Thanks for the ride alone.
Enjoying your videos - I'm preparing for a May trip so I've been watching several to tie in to my route from Phoenix to Sedona, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Petrified Forest Natl Park and Route 66 then returning to Phoenix. Thanks!!
Joshua Tree Forest, different then what I call a forest. Like the different shapes of the trees. Looking forward to the walk on the skywalk. I'm guessing you can't film it. Is hwy 25 in your travel plans. Anyway looking forward to your road trip. Keeping the same name Small Towns/Backroads for this year series.
Thanks Russ. Those Joshua trees are something else. No wonder they take so long to grow, did you see the little tufts on the end for leaves, to get sun for photosynthesis...Remarkable...I have heard some are really old in years. Pretty remarkable. Isn't nature just the most remarkable thing to learn about, to stay in touch with, and to appreciate....I was doing some more videos and slideshow for you youtube channel this morning. I love doing that work. What I wanted to ask you....I have noticed your Go Pro is so much clearer than mine, so Russ can you tell me which one you have bought....Thank you so much for the beautiful work you do with your drone, and your go pro...Pretty remarkable...We are watching Russ, and once again both Colin and I are looking forward to be by your side on your summer trip...Thank you for sharing. We will travel along side you as we astro-travel, through our mind's eye....LOL. Thank you and your work is really wonderul....Indeed...Carolyn and Colin from Osoyoos B.C. Canada...Friends Always...
Thanks Russ for yet another wonderful video. Had to laugh when you said "hit the van" as you were heading back after visiting Joshua Tree. I wouldn't suggest hitting the van. It is bigger and in better shape then you or I... 😊. Stay safe on your travels!
We are at South Rim boondocking in the Forest Service lands for a week. The folks next to us had gone on that skywalk and were very displeased. Could not look down and see the canyon, just some construction going on, the $40 meal ticket was a dried up 7-11 sandwich. Great Booddocking here. Hundreds of sites. We usual head for the North Rim but my wife hasn't been here and the last time I was at the South Rim was the late 1970's. I have to admit the views are much better but the crowds much worse and we are in the early season. So far no major lines and no problems finding a parking spot in the mid week, we will see how it goes on the weekend. 50 mph winds here two days ago, serious snow yesterday, and fine clear weather today. The most scenic part that we've seen is the road to the east gate AZ 64, great views at the viewpoints especial Moran and Lipan. It was snowing too hard to get out at Desert View. We leave monday for, we hope, Lee's Ferry then up into Utah.
The Joshua Tree is my favorite I grew up on a ranch in the summer times Little Rock Ca. I loved them I had names for each one. I have to wonder if they are still on my Granny's old property. Thanks great video.
..Once again I feel like I've just returned from a road trip....Thank you,...I was very surprised to see those migratory cows (12:29-12:33) at the side of the road 'cause I read they're nocturnal ....I believe they must be close to their southern calving grounds...They follow the old buffalo trails all the way down from Canada, but there's so few left you hardly get to see one, especially in the day time.....Hey, maybe they hitch rides in Canadian RV's 'cause I bet there's thousands of those down there, eh .....hahaha....Stay safe, thanks for the escape (excuse my attempt at humour)..
That really sucks about the skywalk, that would be the only reason to go on the west.....well not fair to say but it does suck not to take pitchers🤠🌴🇺🇸 take care Mr. Russ enjoyed as usual 👍
Was near Kelso late 2020. They were all scorched on one side of the road. Obviously due to a recent fire. Sad to see. Can't imagine those trees grow very fast
Russ, we love your videos. BUT, if you are going to show us "story boards", either focus in and pause long enough for us to read them, or you read them to us. Its very frustrating to see story boards in a flash and we have no idea what they say. Thanks for what you are doing.
Yes, but your tax dollars are not supporting it either. GCW was actually better than the NP before they built the skywalk, hardly anyone went out there, you could sit in peace for hours enjoying the view, now it sounds like Nam.
Do the Joshua Trees serve any useful purpose besides landscape decorations in the desert? Do they bear fruit or provide a water source? In the past were they cultivated for their wood to build shelters or housing in the desert?
Watch out for speed traps on that road. I took a drive down there from Las Vegas a few years ago. The speed limit in several places drops from 55 to 25, and in one case there was a hill where it was 55 on the uphill side and immediately at the top there was a sign showing 25, and there was a Mojave County sheriff sitting on the other side. Got a ticket since I didn't slow down fast enough for him, and he even admitted verbally that it WAS a "speed trap". Seems Mojave county is the poorest county in Arizona, so they use speed traps to suppliment their budget.. BEWARE

Russ, why don't you stop a little longer at the kiosk signs and actually read what they say instead of making stuff up. The first reader board said the elevation where you were standing was 4300 feet, yet you said you were at 3000 feet. And, I never saw any "watch for rattlesnakes" signs, either on the readerboards or along the trail. Why didn't you show us one?
Nope No taxes they pay on any Indian Reservations. And they sure do make big bucks. The reservation I lived on they would have to sign a paper so they could keep track of the taxes that the store would have to report to the irs. Each tribal member gets gets what’s called Percapita. An allotted amount they get paid from the government. Some reservations once month, once a year or every other year just depends. I know the Reservation I lived on they got over 2,000 every other year per person even babies but i think it’s higher amount now and they might get it every year.
So anytime I want a good day I just watch your channel its like riding with a cool friend on a awesome drive.
Those Joshua Trees are amazing. Thanks for taking me along. Stay safe and happy adventuring.

The Joshua trees are gorgeous. I have always wanted to go on the Skywalk.
Hi Mary, I just came back from the Skywalk and honestly you aren't missing much. It was a really long wait to only be out there 5 minutes if that.

Some indian tribes do casinos, this tribe does this.. Apparently makes then a lot of money, though likely NOT as much as a casino would.

If you've been to the Grand Canyon National Park, this Grand Canyon West is DEFINITELY NOT worth $40 or more.
Plus there's a lot of restrictions because it's Native American owned and run.
Yes, but your tax dollars are not supporting it either. GCW was actually better than the NP before they built the skywalk, hardly anyone went out there, you could sit in peace for hours enjoying the view, now it sounds like Nam.
I've been to the North, South and East Rims, via motorcycle. I'm pretty much obligated to go to the West?
I agree, I didn't think it was worth the $49.99 entry fee per person. It was just ok. I enjoyed Joshua Tree National Forest musch more.
Hey Russ how many miles on the van now ?
Thanks
For the videos, I miss AZ lived there for a couple years.
Do the Joshua Trees serve any useful purpose besides landscape decorations in the desert? Do they bear fruit or provide a water source? In the past were they cultivated for their wood to build shelters or housing in the desert?
They were there long before man, and they will be there long after.
If you actually go to Pearce Ferry you'll see how the drought and falling Lake Mead levels have destroyed what was a lush riparian area.

$40 for bus ride and $40 for the Skywalk.
