    Kevin Pietersen listens to the views of Test Match Special's Jonathan Agnew, following Pietersen's interview with Adrian Chiles. The South African-born former England batsman declines to talk directly to Aggers, but asks a question about the controversial parody Twitter account before abruptly leaving the studio.

    KP has every right to feel disgusted with what happened in that dressing room and they excluded him from that cohesive unit to try and prove a pint and didn’t even have the balls to put their hand up and come out and say it was them when they made that account, and the ECB tried to cover it up

    Jonathan Agnew should acknowledge the fact that where people gang up against one person, bullying is taking place. Kevin has every right to expose the bullying and the belittling and the backstabbing that went on, and I'll be buying his book and buying copies as Christmas presents for others. The England Cricket team should feel ashamed of themselves, espeically as their preoccupation seems to be "extra-curricular activities", instead of focusing on winning games.

    Pietersen is clearly a very intense person. Hearing that news that the fake Twitter account originated from within his own team mates must have been akin to being hit flush in the face with a cricket bat. Uncomfortable to watch this clip.

    It was a debacle, to this day I can’t quite understand how we manage to lose the best English batsmen of his generation. Obviously egos clashed irreparably.

    Pietersen’s personality and character is what made him such a great player, and he was a great player. Enormous talent and ability and single mindedness. Unfortunately he was not a team man. Cricket is the most individual of team sports, however, unfortunately for Kevin he played in an odd and clicky England team. The first team he played in with Vaughan, Flintoff, Harmison and the rest suited Pietersen, however, the next bunch simply didn’t. Swann was never going to get on with Pietersen, and the rest followed. Years before Boycott was a player who was managed well by Brearley, unfortunately Flower and Strauss were unable or unwilling to do so with Pietersen. Pietersen was too good a player to be discarded. Managed very badly and a changing room that was heavily influenced by Swann and Anderson.

    Amazing how Agnew can marginalise the institutional bullying present within the changing room, yet imply that a sending text message regarding one individual is completely unforgiveable by ALL England players (the text message referred to only one player I understand). Surely it's Andrew Strauss and the rest of the cliché who are 'insecure', if they can't get over that.

    What happened to KP was a national disgrace. The ECB, much like the FA and RFU needs overhauling... not fit for purpose as 21st Century institutions.

    I understand Pietersen is not everybody's cup of tea but as a player he was the one batsman every fan wanted to see and the one player every oppostion bowler wanted to get out. Despite Aggers swerving the issue, it was glaringly obvious he was ostracised and mocked in that dressing room, and because of the people doing it nothing was done about it.
    Now in 2023 we have to sit through story after story of supposed 'institutionalised racism' in English cricket, mostly 99% of which is trivial jibes and off-hand remarks, and this episode doesn't even muster a comment. I can't fathom why that would be.....

    So Pietersen is happy to stay and complain about the twitter account but when the text messages about Strauss are brought up he refuses to respond and walks away like a petulant child. You can rightly complain about the ECBs handling of Pietersen and that England dressing room but that does not make Pietersen any less of an unpleasant bully.

      It's hard to move on given as an England supporter I'm still angry at how Kevin was treated. Andrew Strauss and the England teammates who perpetrated this should be embarrassed for the rest of there lives. More importantly, these players completely got away with it. How can you say grow up when there are still systemic issues and injustice within ECB?

  • @louisjwiese5515

    Well, how is it that suddenly after Flower became coach, Pietersen was a "problem"? I am sorry but it is weak management.
    If a personality like Pietersen played for Australia, South Africa (if national politics did not prevent him from doing so) or India, he would have been managed, moulded, and guided to reach his full potential, and he would have been a legend. Instead a weak and timid ECB, looks for excuses, use a scapegoat, and don't take responsibility themselves for their imbecilic management of the team and cricket in the country. Now England's batting line-up has no bite left, and the whole world is deprived of a talent such as Pietersen. And believe me, Pietersen is extremely popular all over the world. Everyone in the world recognises his talent except the ECB.

    This is partially why cricket isn't the sport for most brits. Unless your dad played, you belong to a class who play traditional English set up sports or are Asian you don't play cricket. Does it help that your England team are full off toffs and egomaniac pricks? The England dressing room is an old boys club, and that's why nobody in this country shows cricket love and this country does not REGULARLY produce high quality players.

    • @nicholaschristiaan8061
      @nicholaschristiaan8061 7 років тому +6

      To be fair - that's nonsense. A) KP is privately educated - in one of the most exclusive schools in SA, B) we have produced many high quality players - Anderson has 500 Test Wickets, Cook 10k runs. Anderson and Root learned their trade in club cricket.
