I would say your assumption on the neck to red is right at every time someone from the south does get into main stream country an the music industry in general they change who they are real quick just for fame and the money. Upchurch has been doing this for a long time and never sold his soul to the industry. It might take a long-ass time for people like that to gain that following but its better than being someone your not and that is why i have no respect for the music industry.
