Joy Division - Heart & Soul

  • Instincts that can still betray us,
A journey that leads to the sun,
    Soulless and bent on destruction,
A struggle between right and wrong.
You take my place in the showdown,
    I'll observe witha pitiful eye,
    And humbly ask for forgiveness,
A request well beyond you and I.
Heart and soul, one will burn.

An abyss that laughs at creation,
A circus complete with all fools,
    Foundations that lasted the ages,
Then ripped apart at their roots.
Beyond all this good is the terror,
The grip of a mercenary hand,
When savagery turns all good reason,
There's no turning back, no last stand.
Heart and soul, one will burn.
Existence well what does it matter?
I exist on the best terms I can.
The past is now part of my future,
The present is well out of hand.
Heart and soul, one will burn.
One will burn, one will burn.
Heart and soul, one will burn.

Joy Division is the kind of band that you hear over and over again and you never get tired, it's never enough, and it seems like your head is talking everything you always had thought.

Some people may not agree with me, but I think this is the most perfect song to ever grace this earth. Ian Curtis, you are a hero.

The great thing about joy division is the fact that the songs are timeless. They sound just as good today as they did back in the day. R.I.P. Ian Curtis

When i discovered Joy Division, i thought i didn`t need to listen to anything else. That was it. THE band, THE music, THE singer. Everything came after them. Anyone else had that same feeling?

Joy Division is more than a band. It's something beyond music and beyond life, it's a concept but more than a concept. The moment you discover Joy Divsion happens once and your life changes, the way you walk, the way you think, the way you dress, the way you love. Everything change from that moment on

I recorded this from the radio onto a crappy little cassette recorder off a john peel session in 1980..I played it endlessly and still haven't found anything to beat joy division...still got the recording kicking around somewhere.

Without a doubt Hannet's dark landscape mood effects are sprawled all over this album. He made Morris sit up on the studio roof and beat away on whatever with a mic attached to get different effects.
Genius meets genius. Grateful we are.

I saw JD in Nov 1979 - they had a chemistry and had a profound influence on me. They hit a nerve liveand I have been a fan ever since. I then saw New Order in 1980 when Movement had just been released - they were very disappointing, like they were at a loss without Ian Curtis. RIP Ian

so great this band this is an awesome track although as a teen i was really broad with my taste in music i liked most chart stuff but then at the same i was heavy into stuff like this band, TheThe , the cure, siouxsie ,Japan and so on the kids at school thought i was weird cos back then you had to be a duranie, whammer or a culture cluber great times.
