Joy Division - Heart & Soul

- Instincts that can still betray us,
A journey that leads to the sun,
Soulless and bent on destruction,
A struggle between right and wrong.
You take my place in the showdown,
I'll observe witha pitiful eye,
And humbly ask for forgiveness,
A request well beyond you and I.
Heart and soul, one will burn.
An abyss that laughs at creation,
A circus complete with all fools,
Foundations that lasted the ages,
Then ripped apart at their roots.
Beyond all this good is the terror,
The grip of a mercenary hand,
When savagery turns all good reason,
There's no turning back, no last stand.
Heart and soul, one will burn.
Existence well what does it matter?
I exist on the best terms I can.
The past is now part of my future,
The present is well out of hand.
Heart and soul, one will burn.
One will burn, one will burn.
Heart and soul, one will burn.
Joy Division is the kind of band that you hear over and over again and you never get tired, it's never enough, and it seems like your head is talking everything you always had thought.
Some people may not agree with me, but I think this is the most perfect song to ever grace this earth. Ian Curtis, you are a hero.
The great thing about joy division is the fact that the songs are timeless. They sound just as good today as they did back in the day. R.I.P. Ian Curtis
My fav track by the division classic!
When i discovered Joy Division, i thought i didn`t need to listen to anything else. That was it. THE band, THE music, THE singer. Everything came after them. Anyone else had that same feeling?
The Fall.
Nihilism is often the end of the road
Then, years later I discovered Coil
Joy Division is more than a band. It's something beyond music and beyond life, it's a concept but more than a concept. The moment you discover Joy Divsion happens once and your life changes, the way you walk, the way you think, the way you dress, the way you love. Everything change from that moment on
I recorded this from the radio onto a crappy little cassette recorder off a john peel session in 1980..I played it endlessly and still haven't found anything to beat joy division...still got the recording kicking around somewhere.
Amazing piece of work. Gorgeous
RIP Ian, we are thinking about you today. Heart and Soul.
I feel closer and closer.
Without a doubt Hannet's dark landscape mood effects are sprawled all over this album. He made Morris sit up on the studio roof and beat away on whatever with a mic attached to get different effects.
Genius meets genius. Grateful we are.
Film clips are from the "Invasion Of The Bee Girls" a 1973 sci-fi movie, also on UA-cam. Great record and video.
+JDsmiffy1 Many many many many thanks. And gratitude galore. And something about being thankful. And, again, thanks.
not too many people know of this song though cuz it was never played in CONTROL. Some lines was read in the beginning, but never played. Such an underrated song. Ian Curtis will live forever in my heart and soul
Best lyrics ever to explain human condition .
Yes. Totally. I don't know why but their tunes make me feel inside the perfect Shell. They describe my deepest heart and guts accordingly.
so sad and heart breaking lyrics. ....RIp Ian...
GENIALI!!!!
Crowning Moment of Awesome.
One of my favourite JD videos on youtube - you did a brilliant job! Who knows what JD would have gone onto after the classic album Closer, surely the greatest band ever. RIP Ian
if this song were first released in 2040 as it is, it will still sound MODERN
And to think that many people will die without have listened to Joy Division...
Beautiful mood & colours in this video..Joy Division at thier most soulful..this is great work
Genius. Timeless. Beautiful.

Well, i think that joy division is one of the most important band that has existed, i love his lyrics, and well, how everybody know, Ian Curtis was a genius...
Beyond brilliant.
has always been my fave JD track. Majestic.
Simply spectacular
This song tranced me from the first time I spun it, RIP Ian Curtis
Great to see your posting back on UA-cam - greatly missed! Great record, great video, best ever band! RIP Ian
Here we see the true art of lyricism unfurl. Such beautiful words.
Verdaderamente, Libro826, aquí has hilado muy fino, y has creado una pequeña joya. Joy Division te lo habrian agradecido. A seguir en esta línea. ¡¡¡¡ Vivan los videoclips creativos de nuestros mejores temas!!!!!!!!
no me canso de escuchar esta maldita canción!
Awesome, just awesome, very hypnotic video matches perfect with the song, thanks
the most intense and lucid song of JD ...
All my lyrics are open to interpretation by the individual and imply many different meanings, therefore their relevance is purely subjective."
ian curtis ♡ gone .but never forgotten rip ♡
I love this band
really nice vid!!!
My first time today, and i have ''THAT'' feeling!
feel the feel. joy division powers me.
I saw JD in Nov 1979 - they had a chemistry and had a profound influence on me. They hit a nerve liveand I have been a fan ever since. I then saw New Order in 1980 when Movement had just been released - they were very disappointing, like they were at a loss without Ian Curtis. RIP Ian
very good job on the video
in fact, I love all joy division's songs
This has been an ear worm since I 1st heard it in 1983
Beautiful. Ian Curtis
excelente maestro ninja!!
A struggle between right and wrong you take my place in the showdown, I'll observe witha pitiful eye, and humbly ask for forgiveness. A request well beyond you and I Heart and soul, one will burn....

so great this band this is an awesome track although as a teen i was really broad with my taste in music i liked most chart stuff but then at the same i was heavy into stuff like this band, TheThe , the cure, siouxsie ,Japan and so on the kids at school thought i was weird cos back then you had to be a duranie, whammer or a culture cluber great times.
Wahnsinn!
@rudimentaryjl - It's Invasion Of The Bee Girls, a cult sci-fi B movie from 1973. They have a trailer on UA-cam as well. A great video to one of JD's best tracks. RIP Ian
It's Erie how close how sounds like Jim Morrison .....I doubt he was trying to emulate....but it's there
a genuine sonic , state of grace !!!
@Hughedonga - It's Invasion Of The Bee Girls, a cult 1973 B movie classic. Brilliant post by elibro826. RIP Ian
@sweetpeacockblues - It's from Closer, JD's 2nd album. Best band ever, RIP Ian.
this song will be realease in 2099....!!!
@Alexm799 - See my reply to rudimentaryl. It's Invasion Of The Bee Girls, a 1973 cult B-movie.
Y pensar que hay gente que morirá sin haber escuchado nunca a Joy Division...
Most of the footage seems to be from "The Invasion of Bee Girls" (1973), which has nothing to do with the song... but it does fit in nicely. :)

What film is the clips in the video from?? it looks extremely strange whatever it is lol
@makidtrej Amen
@TheNanosteve
this COULD have been the official video... does anybody know where the film-fragments with the women are from?
The effect reminds me of b52's Planet Claire (from "milesprunier" here on youtube).
w etx heart and soul
de meme que l homme s instruit du dedans par l usage il se façonne au dehors par le choc paul claudel it remains me ian and joy love to w
Existence... well, what does it matter?
I exist on the best terms I can.
The past is now part of my future,
The present is well out of hand..
@makidtrej Closer had to grow on me a bit. Actually, most of their stuff did. They can be kind of a hard band to get into just 'cause they're so dark, but once I did, I loved it.
@Hughedonga do u know where this guys got the video?
@makidtrej yep... Me too!
oh god why have you forsaken us?
love to my w wife
@reaktor05 - It's Invasion of the Bee Girls, a 1973 cult movie. There is a trailer on UA-cam. JD are the best band ever imo, RIP Ian
@donnybrooklads Songs like She Lost Control and Transmission in my opinion weren't great on the CD. But when it's performed live on BBC, that was Freaking Amazing!
You can hear where the got some of Blue Monday in the second half of this..
non perishable
im sure that whatever they would had done would be pretty different of what new order did...l at least after movement
Joy Division
i can't even.....where is the talent today? did we have a golden age and now we're relenquished to live in American Idol hell?
Instincts and cats will betray us*
mom:where are you???¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
me: im gonna kick in the nuts 12 people
mom:why?
me:they disliked joy division - heart and soul
It's 'WHAT will burn'
kin hell
un-necessary homo-erotica.
Industrial creation of plastic replicants, lacking in that quality of sole: what joy in division, what euphony on its celebration.
no.
lyrics are wrong, he says "An abyss that LASTED creation", as opposed to laughs. although i can see how you got mixed up, it sounds extremely similar, especially with ian's tone of voice in this song.
rip x
You can credit Martin Hannett for this sound. You hear it in this , early New Order , early Stone Roses.. etc .
Mind you Joy Division/New Order did it better. :P
i hate how this band became a hipster icon all of a sudden. Why now? It's good that they're getting recognition, but why by hipsters? gosh. i've been wondering, but are the boxsets worth paying for if i already have UP, Closer, Substance, and Still?
WTF happened to the band after Ian passed away? New Order is so garbage comparing with JD?
