- As Disney Dreamlight Valley continues to evolve, there’s been an ongoing discussion in the community (especially on Reddit) about customisation options for body types and hairstyle varieties-particularly Black and textured hair. This got me thinking about the broader topic of representation in the game and how important it is for everyone to feel seen 🌈
In today’s video, we're diving into the conversation around body types, hairstyles, and why it’s so crucial for games like Disney Dreamlight Valley to offer more diverse options for all players 👩🏽🦱👩🏼🦰🧑🏻🦳
I’d love to know what you think-do you feel Dreamlight Valley does a good job of including a diverse range of characters? Drop your thoughts in the comments! 👇 Let’s chat about how we can keep pushing for more inclusivity in games. 🌟

i do have thoughts on the body types. I certainly feel like plus sizes arent represented, i dont think the larger size looks plus size at all, it feels like average. I think like you mention it could be down to the proportions tbh I would love to have more body types but i doubt they would do it. The clipping is definitely an issue and its a shame that gameloft really struggle with this! theres so many games that utilize different body shapes and they seem to make clothing work so i am unsure why gameloft struggles so much with this. Its not like they are a small indie company without any resources. I also agree on the hairstyles for POC i think the same for clothing of various cultures and religions aswell. I think they could certainly improve in that regard a lot. I think when the game first released into early access it was fine or good, you don't expect everything before a game is fully released as you know these are things that could be worked on or introduced. But we've been out of early access for a while now and this is definitely something that should be improved and not overlooked tbh
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and experiences, Tannie! I completely agree, the larger body size does feel more like an average build. And like you said, the clipping issues are frustrating-especially when other games manage to handle diverse body types well. Expanding hairstyles for POC and clothing for different cultures and religions would be sooo welcome, too!
I think during early access it was easier to overlook things like this, but now that we’re past that, it really feels like something Gameloft could try to prioritise. Fingers crossed that they’re paying attention! Appreciate you, as always! 💜
I use the dressup elements of many games mostly for cosplay and almost never make my avatar actually look like me, but what I just think looks cute (dunno if I should read into that) so I switch between body types and things a lot. I do think it's important to make sure they all look equally good, especially if certain aspects are going to be less represented than others. That said, I don't expect the entirety of the human race to be fully represented upfront. Not for lack of effort, but just because it probably takes a huge amount of time and patience to properly research and create it all. It definitely can be frustrating going for long stretches of time not having what you need to create yourself, but I believe as the game develops there will be lots more representation available to us.
I agree 100% with this! Well, said 🎉
I love how you use the game for cosplay and whatever works for you! 💜 You’re so right-whatever body type or style you choose should feel polished and well-represented. I know that creating a truly inclusive range takes time, and I do think Gameloft is making progress. But like you said, it can feel frustrating when certain aspects are underrepresented. For example, the user who mentioned wanting more Asian-representative eyes, which just shows there’s still room for improvement. I’m hopeful that as the game continues to grow, we’ll get even more ways to express ourselves through our avatars!
I’m a thick and short person, the height doesn’t bother me because I wish I could be tall. But I feel like, the plus size body type just makes me look like a block. I feel like the other female body types have some shape and definition to them and then I’m literally just wide 🙃 I’m down for any and all new hair types; I’d love hairstyle bundles!
Thanks you so much for sharing your perspective! I totally get what you mean about the plus-size body type-it does feel like it lacks the definition that the other body types have 😩 And yesss, I’d really love some hairstyle bundles! The more variety, the better-especially when it comes to letting everyone feel like their avatar truly represents them. Appreciate you joining the conversation! 💜
That’s fair…I know that they tend to make the largest bodies more block like
Not to mention, you can wear the same clothes on a female avatar, but when you switch to a male avatar, the tags are lower!
Loved this DDV vid. I appreciate when games have diversity, especially when it comes to your avatar. I think they're doing an ok job at it but it deff needs to be better, and I believe it will. Like many, I generally like my avater to emulate my looks. I'm mixed race (Black & Indian) and even within that mixture there are maaaany different hair textures. I was never able to really identify with all the other textured hairstyles till the Merida hair style cause it's exactly the length, thickness and curl type as mines! That being said, I use loads of different hairstyles and textures, colours for dreamsnaps and I love that flexibility. I can be a monster, a witch, a fairy, or my ideal representation of my true authentic self. Would like to see more cultures represented with items, hairstyles, clothes and accessories. 💖
Agreed ❤❤
Thank you so much for watching and sharing your experience-it means a lot! I love that you’ve found a hairstyle that feels so true to you-Merida's hair was suuuuch a good addition! And I totally get what you mean about the flexibility-it’s so fun to switch it up for DreamSnaps, I do exactly the same!
I agree that Gameloft has done a decent job so far, but there’s definitely room to grow. Seeing more hairstyles, clothing, and accessories that celebrate a variety of cultures would be amazing! I’m hopeful that as they add more content, we’ll get even more ways to represent ourselves authentically and creatively 💜
I feel like most clothes are made for females and then adjusted to the male, because certain clothes that could be genderneutral feels like they still have boobs on them on the male avatar
I agree with that
I've noticed that too, Shroomish! Not with everything, but definitely some of the outfits. And that goes without saying for the friendship rewards that we only get dresses for 😩
I am very petite so I don't mind being a bit different avatar wise. As an artist, non digital, I know how hard it is to get body shapes really good in 2D let alone 3D, you need twice the body reference points for rendering, to get the movements correct. That being said it would be nice if sometime in the future as they get the game more optimized they will revisit the clipping issues and more body types.
I would love more hair, it would be fantastic if they had hair bundles in premium shop. I do not expect either my hair when shorter or when real long to be there, so I am happy running around with Merida style or several other longer kinds, though Rapunzel to the knee would be sweet.
I agree! Well, said 🎉
I completely agree with you, Dakota-it’s definitely a challenge to get body shapes right, especially in 3D! I’d also love to see more hair choices, especially some bundles in the Premium Shop! A Rapunzel-length style would be amazing 💜
I would like to see larger size avatars, we have loads of other ways to edit them, like beauty spots, pupils, skin patterns and chin dimples, but it can’t look much like ourself if it’s a way slimmer body shape (and hair type too)😅
I just want a shaved head hair style... right now there is just hair or bald. Lol
They could do something similar to what they do with the facial hair settings.
Do you need the locked jungle vines? Sorry you only have a few more hours.
@OscarsCosyCorner 👋
Sorry, friend! I was fast asleep. I'll catch them another time-thank you for the offer! 💜
It's laughable that anyone would describe any of those body types as "big." Obviously I would also like to see more diversity in all the features. I'm not counting on it, though.
More options would be appreciated my partner would appreciate a proper beard
Hi Oscar.
Hey, Brenda!
😳🙀😳OMG I Love video's like this because I believe in what's right and I believe every game community should be able to express themselves to game developers when WE are taking money from our pockets to invest in a game that we believe it should be at the same level of Walt Disney or higher... And I bet over 95% of the people making this game have been to Disney Land and they seen different nationality and hair types... Tbh I gave up on offering advice to better this game that We the community love but I realized it doesn't matter because they will do whatever they want and I been playing from day one and keep playing because I love some of the Disney characters but everything else I'm so over it because it's nothing that the community wants it's what they want like always but I pray and hope Walt Disney helps them because this game will end up like The Sims on it's last leg standing...
Hey there! So Walt Disney died manyyyy years ago just a heads up 😉
Food for thought:::: is a game supposed to be representing EVERYONE or is it about being fun? Back in my day there was a basic boy or basic girl to pick from and you could change their hair color and that was it! 😂I’m 41 yr old so I have a wider perspective I guess? I feel that DDV has been very generous with giving us options. Perhaps people aren’t being appreciative of where we are and what we have you know? Try to think about what you do like about the game instead of what we don’t have..I hope you have a wonderful week and get 4k on your dreamsnaps! ❤❤see you in the valley 🥰🥰
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I completely get where you’re coming from. It can be frustrating when it feels like feedback is being ignored, especially when so many of us are putting money and time into it. Disney’s all about celebrating diversity, so it just makes sense for Dreamlight Valley to reflect that better too! 💜
I know it can feel like we’re shouting into the void sometimes, but I still think raising these conversations is important 🥰 The game has so much potential, and it’s the love for the characters and the community that keeps me (and so many others) sticking with it! Let’s hope Gameloft really starts paying attention to what players are asking for-there’s so much they could still improve on! 💜
@@RedHeadMERMAID83 I get where you're coming from, friend, I really do! But I think it’s important to remember that just because the game works for your play style doesn’t mean it works for everyone. There’s space for different opinions on what’s missing or could be better, and that’s okay! It kind of feels like you're boiling it down to "put up and shut up" 😔Not every change applies to every player, but that doesn’t mean others shouldn’t express what would make the game more enjoyable for them. If it doesn't apply to you, sometimes it’s easier to just move on rather than telling others they shouldn’t share what they’d like to see! But no hard feelings, I just think conversations like these are important, even if they don’t always apply to us personally
@@RedHeadMERMAID83 So you want to have a moment okay... I'm 40 years old and whatever I do with my money is my business not yours and whatever I reply to is my business not yours so have some class and respect... And Food for thought maybe you need to watch the video again to understand my comment but like you said you have a wider perspective you guess then you shouldn't judge a book by its cover because I do love this game very much and you will be shocked and surprised how many times I got 4k and how many times I ran and walked passed my DreamSnap trophy that you probably don't have but I love how you took the time out of your 41 years with your wider perspective to try and have a negative moment towards someone that was not talking to you too try and judge and take my comment out of character when I brought my DDV from my pockets not yours and I have every right to reply and say what I love and dislike about something that my money is always going towards and my comment was not to offend or upset or to keep people from playing or having fun and I appreciate your comment just like I hope you fully appreciate my reply and understand I appreciate this game but not everyone takes whatever DDV throws at them because I don't and I will throw it back in their face and call them out on it when I have something to do with it and what I put into it from the beginning of DDV... And you enjoy your week 🥰 Because I always do... 🥰
This is so silly friends…it’s fantasy! …be the size you find most flattering. 🤷♀️
When I was 350lbs I loved to escape into a game and make myself the shape and appearance I wished I was. .
Im now170, big booty, small waist, smaller chest, very short (5’3) with small feet. I also have a bit of a limp since my hip is jacked up, but I don’t expect the game to have all my features, I’m not upset that I’m not represented.
People get offended easily now, and I feel this is one of these things people just want to complain about. 😢 This is just a fun fantasy game for pretending . I love our community and would really enjoy keeping the positive vibes flowing. Videos like this are meant to kick people up so you have lots of engagement now. Don’t fall for it friends.
Side note…I’d prefer to have a smooth running game that is fun to play rather than a million options. I don’t care if I just had DOBBY as an avatar choice. It’s about the game play right? 😄
Lastly, keep in mind that Body’s range from Eugenia coney to Tammy Slaton, the developers can’t possibly make every outfit work for all those body types.
maybe we can compromise by having slim, medium, large, heavy? 4 sizes I feel is reasonable. Yes?
Also keep in mind if we added a Eugenia size person that would be very dangerous and controversial, as would a 600lbs avatar.
See what I mean? So, Let’s just pump the breaks and instead list what we DO LIKE about our avatar’s! 😊
-I have bright red hair so I put that on my girl, plus pretty green eyes even tho I have boring brown ones. 🤪Lol
YOUR TURN! Tell us what you love about your current avatar! 😄😄 🌈 🎉❤❤
Thanks so much for sharing your perspective! You make a fair point-this is definitely a fantasy game, and I love that you use it to create an avatar that reflects what makes you happy. That’s such a positive way to enjoy the game! 😊
I do think representation can coexist with fun gameplay, though. For some players, having body types or hairstyles that feel relatable makes the experience even more immersive-and that’s okay too! Just because it’s different from how you enjoy the game doesn’t make it wrong or looking for something to complain about. I also don’t think anyone is offended; opening up a polite conversation about possible changes doesn’t cross into that space.
And just to clarify, I didn’t make this video for engagement or rage bait-that’s not my style, and I’m not trying to trick anyone into "falling" for anything. I genuinely believe these conversations matter, and for me, using my platform to lift up diverse voices is a positive thing 🥰🌈
