Pitch black, dark fury (animated), chronicles of Riddick, and then Riddick 2013 (rule the dark) there's also escape from butcher bay and assault on dark Athena which were video games but someone on UA-cam has cut them into films -ish... It's sto pretty cool though.
Pitch Black was what jump-started Vin Diesel's carrier. Before that he was a nobody in Hollywood. And anyone who's seen The Chronicles of Riddick knows about the previous one.
The first darkman movie is awesome. I recommend anyone who hasn't seen it to watch it. Liam Neeson is so great in it, also this movie was before Liam really blew up in Hollywood. Great video!! 👍👍
Joshua Smith no they don't buddy.👍 I'm a huge 80s and 90s movie fan. I love it when movies dub music over what the characters are working on. lol example: kids painting a house and there's this hip, upbeat music that's playing.its the kind of music where you know they will finish painting the house and it's either gonna look great or crappy. Lol ah the good ol days of movies. 😂😂😂
These arent triologies. Just because thr same directoe makes them using the same actors doesn't mean they are related to a previous movie. And another film company making a low budget spin off of a blockbuster also doesnt mean the movies were trilogies, just means someone was trying to make bank in the name.
I agree about the low budget spin off using the name to make quick money isn't a "trilogy" but directors who have three separate stories sometimes make them in trilogy mind set.... its much more thought out and respectable. Like Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette and Virgin Suicides... she has sid herself she made them as a trilogy
I didn't until my roommate told me. Didn't even know there was a third movie, had only ever heard of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. I still haven't seen the third one.
Speaking as someone that eventually saw the sequels to the D&D movie, the one to avoid is the first one. Second one (Wrath of the Dragon God) was probably the strongest of the three, as it revolved around a retired captain of the guard volunteering to help an expedition to stop a sorcerer that was going to use a magical orb to wake a sleeping evil dragon to get revenge on the kingdom that exposed his evil. After the mc's wife basically tries to uncover what goes on in the library where all the magical tomes were kept, she gets cursed to die (or turn undead, been a while since I saw it) and thus he gets motivated to handle things himself. Characters weren't terrible, wasn't a clash of fantasy and comedy in a bad way like the first one. I remember seeing a behind the scenes of it where they helped the actors get into role after the first few takes by literally showing them the player's handbook and the classes their characters were based off, then they actually winged together a believable performance. I'm not saying it's a work of cinematic art and history, but it wasn't bad and was certainly better than the original. Book of Vile Darkness was, on the other hand, something I'm still not sure about. It's definitely better than the first but is more dark fantasy. The MC is trying to be a paladin or something like that, and gets caught up in trying to track down what happened to his father or something along those lines and to do so he ends up going along with clearly evil villain characters while trying to not give away the fact he's not evil and tries to keep their body count low, or else they'll just kill him since they're working for (or trying to get the attention of) the bigger villain that may or may not know something about what happened to his father. It's basically "can you prevent yourself from being corrupted" and featured a few interesting random bits to it, but still not sure of it as a whole. Still better than the first one though, unless you're looking for a comedy than that is your only real choice of these three. Will agree though that most of these I wouldn't count strictly as a trilogy, perhaps a trio of vaguely related works that in hindsight could be considered a trilogy.
joebro391 As a bad joke with Trilogies in mind, 1st in the trilogy would be Big trouble in little Chiba, the 2nd?? Gymkata...the third may be some cheesy Steven Seagal flick or old Jeff Speakman before he got busted movie
Namuh Jehff Alright well I can see your time isnt very valuable. i'd love to argue today but I have to go workout, do a few hours of work til 1, meal prep, clean my pad a bit, and learn and practice songs on guitar, synth, and piano for upcoming gigs next month
While Guillermo Del Toro has stated that Pan's Labyrinth and The Devil's Backbone are thematically brother and sister films, there is no evidence to suggest that his film Cronos is connected to them
Here's a trio to add: "Time Bandits", "Brazil" and "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" by Terry Gilliam. While differing wildly, these three are related by the themes of youth, middle age and old age respectively. Gilliam himself considers these three films to go together.
A friend and I saw "Darkman" when it came out in the theater. We were drunk, and found it hysterically funny. IMHO, this film is only watchable while drunk.
A lot of people are unaware of the Dollars Trilogy surprisingly (A Fist Full Of Dollars/A Few Dollars More/The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly) I guess because many think that TGTBATU is a stand alone awesome film.
I like all three darkman movies. Granted the last two were not as good but the drop off isn't as bad as some others on this list. I would love a remake.
I don't see how "The Apocalypse Trilogy" is a thing if In The Mouth Of Madness is very heavily based on Lovecraft's works where Prince of Darkness, and The Thing are there own stand-alone mythos.
Also, what about the Highlander sequels? When the explicit storyline of a film is that "there can be only one", how can any sequel to that film NOT be roundly mocked?
Star wars is science-fiction and while movie- and bookstores normally clump them together, they are two separate cathegories that are the exact opposite of each other - sci-fi is futuristic and fantasy is set in an environment that is reminiscent of the past - usually with similarities to the middle-ages.
Not that fact alone, but SW is set in a world of that advanced technology that makes sci fi sci fi where space-travel is as commonplace as a trip to the supermarket.
Tommie Jönsson even Lucas refers to them as fantasy. Sci fi is defined as having a basis in reality. Star Wars is about space wizards and magic. It's fantasy bub.
Good point. Didn't think of that. Something else that just occured to me is that although the tecnology seems advanced, the time-frame is set in the past "A long time ago in a galaxy far far away" - so, Ok, it's fantasy.
Did Looper not know that The Hobbit and LotR are tied together? Even within their own trilogies their interconnected. The whole thing is part of the same story.
The El Mariachi / Desperado trilogy is the only one on this list worth seeing all of other than the more well known Cornetto Trilogy. Just note that they are only loosely connected, kind of like bond movies.
I hate to admit this but they did wait a few Dungeons & Dragons movies there were a handful done as CGI direct to video release and I think there's been a few other live-action ones besides the couple on this list.
*DARKMAN is the reason you get all those Taken movies with Liam Neeson* *Btw you could call a Tetralogy of Taken movies without the sequels if you count Taken 1, Unknown, NonStop and The commuter, or just a trilogy too without UNKNOWN*
Who didn't know about the Cornetto Trilogy? Maybe we didn't realize it when Shaun came out because it was the first one, but I thought pretty much everyone knew they were part of a trilogy??
Soooo .... when things are called -"insert movie title here" 1,2&3 - no one realizes they are trilogies ???? Ummm ok .... I must be an absolute genius for working out how to count to three
It was a big plothole to recast Arnold for more than one Teminator movie. What good is an infiltration unit if they all look the same? And why should Arnold's character be in Predator 2?
It's interesting that they called Marlon Wayan's character as the 'Jar Jar Binks' of the fantasy world because Jar Jar has often been interpreted as racially coded with Afro-carribean stereotypes.
Look man, I’m not saying the hobbit trilogy was as good as LOTR, but it was much better than people give it credit! Other than the goofy bumbling acrobatics of the dwarves, I love that series!
I was a long time D&D player and was so insulted by the crappy movie. It should have been more like Conan the barbarian style with a group of 4 characters: a fighter, thief, cleric, and a wizard. The movie was cheesy, used bright colors, bad CGI, bad acting, and had a horrible story line. When the movie "the Gamers" is better and is made on a very short budget, you know the movies bad.
What other interconnected trilogies should've made this list?
Oliver Stone's Vietnam War trilogy ( Platoon, Born on the Fourth of July, Heaven & Earth)
Looper Hannibal lector
Kevin Smith's Jersey trilogy
Looper maybe the unbreakable, split, glass trilogy. When glass comes out anyways.
Any Stephen king movie being connected to the dark tower
Pitch Black should be here, the first part of the Riddick trilogy.
Thought the Same
Whats the third ?
Pitch black, dark fury (animated), chronicles of Riddick, and then Riddick 2013 (rule the dark) there's also escape from butcher bay and assault on dark Athena which were video games but someone on UA-cam has cut them into films -ish... It's sto pretty cool though.
Thanks. I'll have to check out the cartoon one
Pitch Black was what jump-started Vin Diesel's carrier. Before that he was a nobody in Hollywood. And anyone who's seen The Chronicles of Riddick knows about the previous one.
The cornetto trilogy = ‘the whole town’s out to get me’
Accurate
I honestly never thought of that
The first darkman movie is awesome. I recommend anyone who hasn't seen it to watch it. Liam Neeson is so great in it, also this movie was before Liam really blew up in Hollywood. Great video!! 👍👍
And 1 had Bruce Campbell if you know where to look
I whole heartedly agree, I miss movies like this from the 90s. They don’t make em like this anymore :(
Derek White at the end when he puts on his face, he turns around and it’s Bruce Campbell....then he turns back around and gets lost in the crowd.
Lisa Ann :Thumbnail Fan: like the montage in revenge of the nerds when they’re fixing up the frat house lol
These arent triologies. Just because thr same directoe makes them using the same actors doesn't mean they are related to a previous movie. And another film company making a low budget spin off of a blockbuster also doesnt mean the movies were trilogies, just means someone was trying to make bank in the name.
A Boy and His Subaru except john carpenters trilogy is actually a trilogy
Some of these are Trilogies. Actually, most of them are.
The word you’re looking for is anthology
Just Yoeri No. An anthology would be 1 film made up of multiple shorter filmd written and directed by different people.
I think everyone knows what the Cornetta trilogy is.
Golgi Apparatus I didn’t but I noticed there connections between themes and brought it up to my friend and he told me.
It's CornettO tho...
I haven't seen any of them :0
Shaun of the Dead is my favorite movie
Unfortunatly not. Edgar wright is way under rated
I Fucking love the Mexico Trilogy just wish the kept the lead from El Mariachi but other wise great films
What about Clint Eastwoods Man with no Name trilogy
Who in the world didn't know "Shaun of the dead" was a trilogy?
I didn't until my roommate told me. Didn't even know there was a third movie, had only ever heard of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. I still haven't seen the third one.
DraconasLyrr you should, The World's End was a great ending to the Cornetto Trilogy, very funny!
New title idea: film 99% of people knew were part of a trilogy
Park Chan-Wook’s Vengenace trilogy should have been on here, including the films Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy and Lady Vengeance.
Darkman is awesome
I see Darkman, I click
Nexus MOCs same
I came here out of curiosity for who this is
Same as well.

Will agree though that most of these I wouldn't count strictly as a trilogy, perhaps a trio of vaguely related works that in hindsight could be considered a trilogy.
How dare you insinuate that Big Trouble in Little China is a generic fantasy film...
joebro391 As a bad joke with Trilogies in mind, 1st in the trilogy would be Big trouble in little Chiba, the 2nd?? Gymkata...the third may be some cheesy Steven Seagal flick or old Jeff Speakman before he got busted movie
I fucking loved the Mexico Trilogy
Was the "lesser starwars" line edited over a clip of Solo really necessary? The movie hasnt come out and we've only gotten glimps of the movie.
Jacob Rhind get triggered nerd
Namuh Jehff i love how you're triggered over me getting triggered
Jacob Rhind how am i triggered im laughing at u for being a nerd
Namuh Jehff Alright well I can see your time isnt very valuable. i'd love to argue today but I have to go workout, do a few hours of work til 1, meal prep, clean my pad a bit, and learn and practice songs on guitar, synth, and piano for upcoming gigs next month
Jacob hahaha that was so meta
Pan's Labyrinth, Devil's Backnbone and Cronos
Didn't Chronos come out way before Pan's Labrynth?
Lord Boofhead it's out of order
While Guillermo Del Toro has stated that Pan's Labyrinth and The Devil's Backbone are thematically brother and sister films, there is no evidence to suggest that his film Cronos is connected to them
Here's a trio to add: "Time Bandits", "Brazil" and "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" by Terry Gilliam. While differing wildly, these three are related by the themes of youth, middle age and old age respectively. Gilliam himself considers these three films to go together.
I was pleasantly surprised by third d&d movie.
A friend and I saw "Darkman" when it came out in the theater. We were drunk, and found it hysterically funny. IMHO, this film is only watchable while drunk.
I like to think of Disney's the Black Hole, Tron, and Flight of the Navigator as a trilogy.
the adams family reunion would always play on JETIX around christmas for some reason, I never really understood why
I have seen all 3 parts of Darkman trilogy.
trust me, u don't wanna see darkman 2 & 3.
The unbreakable trilogy... lets hope the third(Glass) is good.
It looks pretty interesting.
How did Blade Runner and Soldier not make the list???
So you're telling me nobody knew big momma's house 1, 2 & 3 was a trilogy ?
The Desperado trilogy is fucking amazing!
I think it’s properly referred to as The Mexico Trilogy.
At least the original Dark Man was fucking Golden, only wish an awesome sequel would come out.
Another really cool one is how were the Buffalo roam is a sequal to fear and loathing in Las vegas
Yknow i just found out shaun or the dead, Hot fuzz, and The World's End were a trilogy a few months ago and i was expecting it to be here
I don't see how "The Apocalypse Trilogy" is a thing if In The Mouth Of Madness is very heavily based on Lovecraft's works where Prince of Darkness, and The Thing are there own stand-alone mythos.
My favorite Trilogy is the Dollars trilogy with Clint Eastwood. Fist full of Dollars, A Few Dollars More, and The Good the Bad and the Ugly.
Eric Schon I think you mean "The man with no name" trilogy.
Although some say we learn his name in the probable 4th entry..
The Unforgiven.
Eric Potts could be, I have heard it as the Dollar trilogy so that is how I refer to it. Wikipedia refers to it as the Dollar trilogy.
Yeah thats what Im seeing as well. Fair enuff, from now Im calling it the Dollars Trilogy, and um.... not correcting folks anymore either.
Eric Schon I like his "man with no name" thing myself.
all these trilogies except Legally Blond i already knew about. Damn im quite the Cinephile
The only funny thing about the Big Momma's House movies is that the creators thought the first one was good enough to warrant a trilogy.
Darkman was SICK af, still one of my favorite 90s films!
Lord of the rings? Took me years to realise.
Marlon Wayans is the Jar-Jar Binks of the movie industry.
WillJM81280 Not in Requiem, he was great in that!
you BET I loved all 3 Darkman movies when they were released
Also, what about the Highlander sequels? When the explicit storyline of a film is that "there can be only one", how can any sequel to that film NOT be roundly mocked?
Wait, Big Mamma 1, 2 and 3 are a trilogy? Well, holy crap!
Ummm, I hate to tell you Looper, but EVERYONE knows about the Cornetto trilogy and the El Mariachi trilogy.
I have always preferred Liam's Darkman over Arnold's; only Liam could turn a tap dance into a temper tantrum with such intensity.
Cornetto trilogy is freagin awesome
Isn't jar jar the jar jar of fantasy films?
Star wars is science-fiction and while movie- and bookstores normally clump them together, they are two separate cathegories that are the exact opposite of each other - sci-fi is futuristic and fantasy is set in an environment that is reminiscent of the past - usually with similarities to the middle-ages.
Tommie Jönsson nope. Science fiction has some basis in reality. Just bc SW takes place in space doesn't make it sci fi.
I wanna see what Duncan Jones has next. From Moon to Mute, i want a 3rd movie :)
Did Looper not know that The Hobbit and LotR are tied together? Even within their own trilogies their interconnected. The whole thing is part of the same story.
Cruel Intentions is awesome
I like The first Darkman film. It's an amazing early superhero flick that deserves a remake.
Darkman is so awesome!
Everyone who is into films should know about the Cornetto Trilogy
The El Mariachi / Desperado trilogy is the only one on this list worth seeing all of other than the more well known Cornetto Trilogy. Just note that they are only loosely connected, kind of like bond movies.
Mighty Ducks, it took me ages to find out about part 2 and 3
Finding Dory was a movie about Dory being forgetful and that’s it.
Dario Argento's The Three Mothers trilogy - Suspiria, Inferno, and The Mother of Tears.
I watched suspiria, are the other 2 good?
@@cosmicmorty4508 Yes they are. Not as visually stunning as Suspiria but well worth seeing.
Martin Lawrence: Once, twice, three times a lady...that's actually a dude in a fat suit.
what is the name of the background song?
I hate to admit this but they did wait a few Dungeons & Dragons movies there were a handful done as CGI direct to video release and I think there's been a few other live-action ones besides the couple on this list.
Dungeons & Dragons 3: The Book of Vile Darkness (2012) is actually pretty awesome. Way better than you could ever expect from it.
I love the Goodfellas, 127 Hours, Moneyball cinematic universe
The Corneto trilogy and the Mexico Trilogy are fantastic and if you don't know they are part of that trilogy you need your head read. Both fantastic
I know a lot of people who never heard of Hot Fuzz or World's End before I recommended the movies to them.
*DARKMAN is the reason you get all those Taken movies with Liam Neeson*
*Btw you could call a Tetralogy of Taken movies without the sequels if you count Taken 1, Unknown, NonStop and The commuter, or just a trilogy too without UNKNOWN*
It doesn’t matter payt. IT MATTERS! That always had me dying laughing when I was younger and even now
Should have included The Sandlot trilogy and A Christmas Story trilogy. Isn’t there a Smurfs trilogy too
How about the "Ripliad" Purple Noon, Ripley Under Ground and The American Friend. Nice list BTW
God who knew Shaun of the Dead was part of a three films. I always just knew from ya know... the fucking cornetto TRILOGY!
Actually The Thing trilogy includes the eighties The Thing, 2011’s The Thing, and the fifties The Thing That Came From Outer Space.
William Peter Blatty's Faith Trilogy: The Exorcist, Exorcist 3, Ninth Configuration
Who didn't know about the Cornetto Trilogy? Maybe we didn't realize it when Shaun came out because it was the first one, but I thought pretty much everyone knew they were part of a trilogy??
El Mariachi was probably the best indie-action movie ever.
Forgot about "Oldboy" and the "Vengeance Trilogy"
Soooo .... when things are called -"insert movie title here" 1,2&3 - no one realizes they are trilogies ???? Ummm ok .... I must be an absolute genius for working out how to count to three
If you don't know the sequels exist you cannot know that there is more than one movie.
The Darkman sequels weren't THAT bad. Granted, part 3 could've done with more action scenes but, still...
I hate it when Hollywood makes trilogy movies without the main character like terminator Genesis and predator without arnold
It was a big plothole to recast Arnold for more than one Teminator movie. What good is an infiltration unit if they all look the same?
And why should Arnold's character be in Predator 2?
Um, I actually enjoyed the Dungeons and Dragons movie. But I didn't know about the other two movies regarding it.
"Movies You Never Realized Were Part Of A Trilogy"
The Cornetto Trilogy.
Who would have known.
'Time Bandits', 'Brazil' and 'The Adventures of Baron Munchausen', aka Terry Gilliam's imagination trilogy
The only movie that I didnt know was part of a trilogy was The Thing. All the others are kind of obvious they were part of a series of movies.
Remember when Bruce Campbell was at the end of the original Darkman? Yea, surprised me too.
The first Darkman was epic and the first Dungeons & Dragons was BOSS!!!!
"Movies You Never Realized Were Part Of A Trilogy": proceeds to lists movies widely known to be trilogies and literally movie trilogies.
Yall forgot that Ethan Hawke trilogy "Before Midnight, Sunrise, and Sunset". Never seen a single one but I know about them lol
It's interesting that they called Marlon Wayan's character as the 'Jar Jar Binks' of the fantasy world because Jar Jar has often been interpreted as racially coded with Afro-carribean stereotypes.
Cruel Intentions 2 was badly acted but it had a twist that made the plot much more interesting than the first.
Seeing connection when there is none is a mental illness i think
I thought the Legally Blonde sequels were campy and cliche but in a cute way.
Look man, I’m not saying the hobbit trilogy was as good as LOTR, but it was much better than people give it credit! Other than the goofy bumbling acrobatics of the dwarves, I love that series!
Maybe it sould be called "Looper dident know and someone told them"
Was I the only one who thought "darkman" was jack the ripper and clicked because he was on the thumbnail?
The Thing is part of another trilogy, it’s a remake of a 50s movie, then they made a prequel.
I loved The DnD movie as a kid.
MikaelPain me 2
Me, too.
The Dead Gentlemen are awesome.
Yeah the 2nd and 3rd ones actually felt like a D&D Campaign where as the 1st one felt like Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.
While not a movie, but Dante's Inferno does qualify.
That Addams family movie has nothing to do with the originals ....it’s a reboot of its own , so the Adams family is not a trilogy movie
Addams family reunion, while technically connected, is/was a made for tv movie pilot for a tv series that didnt make it.
Desperado kicked so much ass...
dungons and dragons three has thefeel of a dark quest quite enjoyable in actuality
i want that background music so much :c anyone knows the track???
Madea vs Big mama....there’s no question, Madea is the better movies and character
