THANK YOU for actually demonstrating the pad capabilities of this synth. So many people play it like all it can do is the more modular-style synthesis... This thing sounds beautiful.
It's one of the main reasons I bought it... a lot of people think "Paraphonic" means it can't do pads, but of course it can! Thank YOU for watching and for the comment!
I allso have been craving a video like this! Other ones have found 4x saw + filter only type sounds 😂.. Now im sure i have to buy this :--)!. Thank you! Sounds mellow
Did you end up getting it? I kind of impulse bought it after a deal fell through on getting an Iridium and I think it might be my favorite synth. Fantastic sound and so much potential to work with. Also, it can be expanded with other gear, which is really exciting
@@312dasbkilla haha I hope you enjoy the journey. I'm looking into getting the ZOIA Euroburo - have the ZOIA and have loved pairing it with the Matriarch. I'll probably be following on that journey soon as well..
Nice job. The Matriarch is definitely one of the more original concepts we've seen in some time. Its a beautiful sounding and flexible synth. Looking forward to more videos from you. Thanks.
Thanks! Yeah, I'm really loving it... I think it is my favorite analog synth in at least the past couple of decades! Thanks for the comment and for watching! More videos will be coming.
Excellent demonstration of some nice sounds. I've been selling off things in my studio I don't use enough to merit keeping, and then, while doing that, I've been considering options for a new piece of gear, but after listening to loads of synths, I realised nothing excited me, or it didn't do anything that my Phenols, Dreadboxes or U-He synths could do. Until I stumbled on the Matriarch, that is. This synth has that certain ineffable something that makes it stand out. It's quite a hefty investment, but once I'm fnished with my clear-out, it may still be top of my list.
Thank you for the comment. I've been playing and programming synths for well over 40 years, and I can easily say that the Matriach is the best Analog Synth to come out in the last 20 years (just my opinion of course.) And its little sibling, the Moog Grandmother, is what the original Minimoog should have been back in the day. Thanks again for the comment, and for watching!
Superb demo and great playing! I’ve seen other videos of patchbook demonstrations and I think the tweaks you made really improved the sounds vs what I was hearing from other videos. You have a good ear for design. Ordering my Matriarch in a week.
Yes, Matriarch will pair nicely with my Sub 37. I was also researching Pittsburgh Modular Voltage Research Lab, ASM Hydrasynth, Novation Summit, and Yamaha MODX6, but Matriarch seemed the best to buy right now. I'm looking at the Buchla Red Panel as possible next purchase.
Thank you for the comment. And no, no other effects other than the built-in delay. I did tweak the sound a bit from the original patch in the manual, but I ddd as my remember what I actually did.
I have it dialed in pretty dark... of all the new Moogs its the most vintage sounding (along with the Grandmother) since the circuits are based on their vintage 900 series modular.
My first thought is that they’d avoid it for fear of cannibalizing the Moog One, but I feel like Moog has the balls for that. However, 8 individual voices that have to be tuned manually... not the best for actual poly purposes, and probably overkill for mono use. Interesting thought though
@@andrewnibbi Man, I feel like I'm spending half my studio time tuning freakin' oscillators - especially on big modular patches. I'd like to see analog VCO modules paired with digital tuners... press a tune button and get right down to playing. As of now, I'm using software to tune every VCO, and I swear it would be more efficient to use a century-old tuning fork.
RMS no thanks. I like the exploration and being able to manually dial it in to my tastes. If everything is tuned perfectly it sounds sterile. So glad this synth doesn’t do that!
So far so good, though I've only played it with the Grandmother; they both pair really great together! Just got to let the Matriarch warm-up for 10 minutes first.

The Matriarch has 4 hidden envelopes for each oscillator, so it’s actually really close to real polyphony. It’s a beautiful synth.
@@HotStrange could you elaborate on that?
Making my decision to buy one even greater b great demo of it’s capabilities
Thanks! The Matriarch is still one of my favorite analog synths ever!

@@chromaflow9313 yeah and I love it. It sparked fascination with modular gear. Down the rabbit hole I go

Bad assery
I'm in love with this synth, all those glorious sounds of the past in one box! it's closer sounding to the modular systems than a Minimoog
I completely agree! I'd much rather have this Matriarch than a Minimoog.
whoa, those sounds, the variety, the colors, the modulation, the flava flav

Nice what a wonderful instrument. Great to hear some of what it can do.
An instrument with great potential but I can't find any decent tracks made with one, it's always synth nerds noodling but not making any music.
How cool. I like your set up. Im learning more on this type of thing myself with construction of my own midi pads and other stuff.
Nicely done. The last one makes me eager to patch it with my DFAM! 👍
Thanks!

Phenomenal demo great job.
I love this harmony in introduction
love the patch with the kick
Now THAT'S a demo. Beautiful job. That last section could have gone on another hour. X

Genshi Media Group Sure thing! Finally getting around to getting my Matriarch and omg it’s amazing.
At about 3 mins - fantastic sound.
My Matriarch arrives in a few days. Thanks to this video, I have a good idea of what this synth can do. Great job, thanks!

Steven Streight how are you liking yours? I’m about to order one and will be using it with a Pro3, Minilogue XD, Microfreak, and Argon8.
Gorgeous!
hmmm very cool demonstration thank you, can i ask, did you use any additional effect on instant beat? cant make it sound like u did.. :]

Sounds fantastic
The most 'dark' sounding moog evsr made? Or is it just me
I have it dialed in pretty dark... of all the new Moogs its the most vintage sounding (along with the Grandmother) since the circuits are based on their vintage 900 series modular.
What is 'dark' sounding? A lack of high frequencies/treble?
@@spunicunifait2697 i think it has to do with the gain and the character of the delay as well
Very sweet. Makes me curious what an 8-voice model might sound like. Will they call that the Moog Queen or the Moog Mother-in-Law?
Thanks! And I too would be curious to hear an 8 Voice version of this... of course, it would have to be called the Moog Queen Mother!

I doubt they will make an 8 voice.
Doooooopr
Genshi How is the pitch stability and tuning across the oscillators ....esp when playing with other synths ? Good?
So far so good, though I've only played it with the Grandmother; they both pair really great together! Just got to let the Matriarch warm-up for 10 minutes first.
Genshi Media Group thx ...had tuning issues with grandma but I,think it was lemon and not typical based on feedback from others
Onboard delay only?
Yes, only the Matriarch onboard delay, no other effects or post-processing at all.
Genshi Media Group
What a rich and engaging sound.
Genshi Media Group some very reverb/chorus sounds coming from that delay. That’s what I love the most about it. Really versatile effect.
You ply beautifully, but the lighting makes it hard to see the patches =/
Saved for referecen though, thanks!
Thanks, though in this case, all the patches are in the book that comes with the Matriarch, so you can see them there...
@@Genshi oh awesome, thanks for the clarification! I'm still waiting to get mine
Hey, these are the patches from the booklet that comes with it, right?
Yes, that's what I mentioned in the description, with slight variations to suit my taste.
Visible knob settings would have been usefull....
They’re all in the Moog Matriarch patch book...
Aaaah, thanx for the hint! I hope I got one too....:-)
Sigh. Why am I so poor.
Turn that fking delay off !!! :)
