Yes, the longsword was getting longer in each episode. Go back to the dual blades vid, the first one that has the longsword in the opening, and compare it's length in the last video, the kinsect blade.
The Kinsect Glaive is absolutely my favorite weapon in all of Monster Hunter >.> Then again as is shown by my favorite Warframe having been Ember specifically because of her Old Ult, World On Fire which I worked on maxing out the uptime so I could bounce around slashing through enemies without a care in the world... Yeeeeaaaah it makes sense >.>

As an IG main, while the mobility is a huge factor to the weapon, the main damage is actually dealt while on the ground. It's a really fun weapon to use, has some key mechanics that some may dislike(the essence gathering) but it's simpler than the Charge Blade to master.
All the weapons types are available to you when you start the game, all you need is hunt to make/upgrade them for bigger damage. Regarding World/Iceborne, with iceborne it brought changes/additions to the move sets of each weapon. Regarding the essence mechanic for insect glaive, it’s to essentially to self buff/heal, with the “fart clouds” being colored as one of the four essence colors depending on the body part, and essentially acts as a target for the kinsect to attack and gather essence.
I love my Insect Glaive. So much versatility! No monster is beyond my reach. Unless they’re underground. Or underwater. Or just generally faster than my bug.
Insect Glaive is my main weapon. fun weapon to fly around with and whittle away monsters, but not a big dps beast. It's big draw to me is how it gives you options on how to approach a hunt. you have the aerial mobility to advance on a monster, avoid dangerous terrain or dodge a move with a big wind-up, the kinsect can serve as a pseudo projectile if you want to keep away from the monster while still dealing damage and you're decent at melee if need be. In a group hunt your main job will usually be to "break" the wings with your aerial flybys, mount monsters and get knockdowns as well as jump behind the monster and slice off the tail. With the kinsects you can also help by bringing poison, paralysis or sleep inducing dust clouds to help take the wind out of the monster's sails one or two additional times, or just bring a blast dust for max DPS. Kinsects are upgraded like weapons and have branching paths focusing on speed, damage or dust type. Heck, with the right glaive and kinsect build, the bug's damage isn't insignificant. I don't know how far into world's lifetime these videos were made, but Iceborn did allow you to "feed" your kinsect with your slinger ammo, giving it a stat buff and the ability to hold 2 essences, either the same ones or different. Do note that the Glaive got a somewhat significant rework with the Switch's MonHunt Rise. Kinsects aren't upgraded and each is a more self-contained change-up to the glaive play style. aerial glaive still isn't the best dps wise, but it's not just for show anymore. the new Rise mounting mechanics are a stealth nerf to the IG IMO, but it's nowhere near a make or break situation.

Also: Take heart, the old formula of Wreynolds Wrap is long dead. The new stuff is crap in a different way but it doesn't spontaneously static cling itself into oblivion the way the old stuff did.
When you are done with this series. You should take a look at MHW Iceborne Legends by Team Darkside. It's a showcase of some of the fun things you can do with weapons in Monster Hunter World. Then think about looking at their mhw gone wrong series showcasing the game breaking and other silly stuff.
