Although it's only ~1.6mm thicker than the Z5, that's still a decent amount of room to shove deeper speakers into. Almost like putting a subwoofer onto a wooden floor compared to a concrete floor - more room to travel.
I've recently had an opportunity to get a new phone, so having been impressed with my Xperia Z3 but wanting smaller size and better camera(not that Z3's was terrible), I went for this one, and I'm incredibly glad I did. I feel like the phone was tailored for me. That's how impressed I am. On the downside, I have been getting shorter battery life than Z3, but since the Z3's battery was incredible, I still find it lasting a full day of heavy use and 2 days of moderate to light use.
+Damir Franc Hello, I am looking for a new phone is it still worth it to buy the Z5C with Snapdragon 810 or should i wait for the S820 devices since there are alot of issues with these chips and just get a moto g till the Z6C comes out?
+hyungwoo0312 there's a lot of lame google shit running in the backround on this device I've found...I'm gunna root it and make a vid about how much battery life is improved once you disable useless processes
I love this phone, even the S7 looks so cartoonish when using it next to! Great review Damir, you are my favorite UA-cam reviwer so I wanted to check what you think about this phone. I would add also a great keyboard experience, the best I ever used (vs. htc, samsung, google keyboard) and some pre-installed apps like Track ID and Sketch for image editing, plus the gallery is perfectly organised. Using the software on sony is so good and their support is fine too, no complaints here.
Great review. For people thinking that going from bigger phone to a smaller phone, it's not really a big deal. just set the font larger. in time, you'll get used to it. 4.6" was huge 3 years ago. the video doesn't mention (or maybe I missed) how great of a water resistant phone is...one of the best. going on 2days with one charge and doesn't get as warm, was pretty cool and were the reasons I upgrade my original z. best phone for the size.
Thank you Damir for the exceptional review, I'm definitely going here for further reviews! I'm deciding whether or not I want to go back to a Z3C (currently have a Z3, my Z3C was stolen so I thought I'd give the bigger brother a try). My current Z3 has been a champ, however I've dropped it too many times and the screen has cracked. You're the best! Regards, Brandon
Today, The price of this phone in Indonesia is only around 50-60 USD (used, but still good condition). Crazy! Definitely gonna buy one to replace my destroyed zenfone 3 while waiting for the XZ3 Compact.
I bought this phone this week and It will arrive next week. I wanted a smaller phone with good battery life. The camera is a bonus. A smaller screen should give me a very long standby battery life. The right-angle corners are a concern as they will probably put a square wear mark on my front jeans' pockets. Matt grey is nice as it matches my ThinkPad. I remember a similar phone was used in one of the James Bond movies a few years ago. It is more convenient and professional-looking to use a smaller phone. It only has Android 7.1. I was also considering a Google Pixel 1 to get Android 10 but Z5 seems like better overall phone.
I had a oneplus one for a year, great phone. I've switched over to the Z5 compact, and I love it, especially it's compact size. The only two gripes, the volume with the 2 speakers isn't very loud compared to my oneplus, and I really miss double tap to close, it can be annoying as I was so used to having double tap to close on my oneplus.
only problem sony have , is that IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. it is too reflective on the sunlight. cant see shit in summer btw Damir Franc, u have one the best reviews on youtube
Great review!! I'm torn apart! Should I get the z5 compact or the htc one a9??? The only letdown for me of the compact is the ui experience! I like htc's sense, the way it customize the phone which lacks on the compact. Which you recommend?
This was the review I really wanted to see of the three. Is it possible we might see the z6 range come out at MWC next month or too soon? I might go smaller for my next phone. One handed use on the go, tablet at home I'm thinking?
Great review bro! You show that fancy video editing isn't required to produce quality information! Hey, if you had to choose would you pick this phone or the LG G4 if price was a factor. If so, besides the processor what else does this phone offer?
***** Yeah, I am sorry. I meant vs the Z5 regular size. I asked because I am a little worried about Sony's situation in regards to smart phones. I am using the Z1 right now and very surprised at how relevant it still is to this day. The Snapdragon 800 was a great processor. The problem is that I still haven't gotten an upgrade to 5.1.1 let alone 6.0.
+Witcherworks you should have gotten 5.1.1 if you didn't try to update trough PC-companion...6.0 won't come to Z1 since it's old device...but there will be some good custom roms...sony is blody rich company so bad sales of their xperia phones can't hurt them that much so no worries on that end :)
Can you make a one hand use comparison between z5, z5c, and z5p? This video lacks a comparison of video playing. Is there anyway for you to make a video that compares video quality in terms of movie, tv shows, or music video between devices and which one you think looks best?
Very Nice review. Dont you personally feel that z5c a bit laggy? Personally I feel that my z5c process image and loading gallery slowly. Do you feel the same?
You're so positive I love it, I've been looking at reviews of this for a couple months now and the only thing really worrying me is the thickness of it. I know that seems vain but if I'm paying $600nzd I want to know I'm going to love it. Does the good qualities of this phone out weigh that one negative? Or should I consider another phone?
Hello DamirFranc. I am considering to buy a Z5 compact, as it fits my needs. It is a small handsets with powerful specs at a good price. However I have read on the internet about two issues that got me extremely worried. Firstly it is the notorious overheating issue and secondly the cracking of both the screen and the back of the device. Some even say that the screen self cracked. Having used the device, have you experiences any of these issues?
dear brother, I would like to know which app do you use for playing the sounds? I do not have the same app as yours. mine is called "music". secondly, I heard that the screen of this phone is scratch resistant. is it true? and does it mean I don't have to put a screen protector? Thank you!
Im looking for a z5 compact Xperiacover that opens from top not from side :(and also an armor like lunatik and not love mei because I dont trust it, do you? . . 2nd an armor case with waterproof for additional protection. got any recomendation?
Great review, thank you. I am finding it difficult to choose between this and the Samsung A3 (2016). The most important features for me will be: Camera / Battery life / music via headphone jack (did you test that?). Thank you for your help.
+Damir Franc does the colour of the phone impact on the experience IYO? Like do blacks look more black on a black edition or whites on white or vice versa... thanks !
***** same's the case with me. But, considering how practical your videos are, what do you think will be a better choice with regard to their specifications and dimensions on paper?
***** I love the size of the z5c and I was planning a whole lot to buy it. But, I've heard negetive things about the Xperia's camera app speed and its battery life after the marshmallow update. "If" there is no let down in performance, camera and battery life I'd hands down go for the z5c. Did you have any issues with your z5c?
***** play, lemme get this clear now. I just want a phone with a DECENT and FAST camera, and good performance while multitasking around social media apps and web browsing. Also a decent gaming performance with a majority of light games with the exceptions of 2-3 heavy games. I was preffering the z5c cuz I am a student and find myself watching UA-cam almost all day long, so I wanted a screen which basically just attract me towards it, provided it dosent sacrifice on basic multitasking, camera (cuz I use it a hell lot), light gaming and the ui experience. And also, handling the phone with just one hand is not a reason for buying the z5c but is definitely a pro for me, whatsoever. Anyways, what are your thoughts on the Xperia ui? My friend's got a m4 aqua and the phone switches off automatically when for instance you insert a SIM card or disable the ultra power saving mode. Is it the same case with the z5c? Also, I'm sorry to ask again, but after watching your reviews, I trust your suggestion more than probably anyone else on UA-cam :) (except maybe MKBHD or someone. :p), so how is the camera? Fast enough? Cuz I take a lot of photos where ever I go and my phone camera is the only camera I use since I don't have a slr. Is it fast? And is it realiable for a good Shot? If the z5c disappoints in either the ui or the camera, and perhaps the performance, I'll b forced to get the op3 with which, as I told you, will have that "UA-cam addiction" issue. xD (might sound wierd, but, yeah.) So, what are your thoughts? Also, any tricks for tackling smartphone addiction? 😂😂
If this phone could only be as thin as the galaxy 7 edge, with a 5000mah battery, 4 gigs of ram, a rich deep vivid amoled display, and have the actual screen extend closer to the bottom and top edges, then I would definitely buy it.
Hi I have a z3 compact.. and i hate the display and camera. Is this phone any better than that? Also i am planning between z5c and nexus 5x. Let me know which one is better interms of display, camera and perfromance. Thanks!
Wow such a nice and detailed response.. thanks for that.. I like small phones as well. But because of the bad display and camera on z3c and no 4.7 inch phones other than z5c i thought of giving nexus a try.. Camera is really importnat for me.. I heard that amazon us will be selling z5c from first week of february as well as best buy so i will try that and make a decision.. I also heard that there will be no fingerprint scanner on z5c us version.. I dont use that anyways so thats fine.. Thanks again for your reply..
I am thinking of buying this phone, to replace my aging Nexus 5 I went 'back' to iOS and got an iPhone 6S, and I hate it, so will go back to Android but I am not a big screen person, I tried a Note 5 but hated it cause of it's size. But what colour? Black or White? Kinda tricky to choose, also does the phone heat up at all? I would wait for the next Xperia Compact with the 820 CPU in it, but the Z5c is dropping a lot in price and I don't think Sony will announce the Z6/ Z7 range and MWC, but you never know.
+Damir Franc Well I will see what happens at MWC. It's a shame Sony kept the Z5 Compact Premium for the Japanese market, same phone with 1080P screen and 3GB RAM. Well lets hope the next Compact has those along with the 820 chip.
Ok I just wanted to know your opinion about their camera and so. I don't even like Apple. 😀 Sony is what I do like. And talking about Sony will you rewiew the XA1 and XZ Premium and XZs?
I can get this phone for about $415. Do you think I should wait more for a price drop because $400 is a kinda boerderline too expensive for me. I can manage it but would prefer cheaper.
Is there a lag (slight screen freeze) when entering the settings for the first time after booting (or after clearing recent apps and locking + waking the device and then entering the settings)? (You have to get to the settings and start scrolling right away to really notice it) It happens to me on 3 different units. Also, which Revision did you get, 1, 2 or 3? Greets
+Damir Franc Well... for me it's pretty important. I like a lag free experience which is hard to achieve with Z5C. The phone seems to work very slow for the cost and spec in general. But im still getting another one tomorrow.
+Damir Franc It was a weird "regular" hickup in the device. But entering phone app and messages was also pretty laggy. I guess I'll have to get used to it and/or get Marshamallow which, so they say, fixes most performance issues.
+Damir Franc Great thanks! I'm getting mine in a few hours. Just to add, I have an interesting theory. Since there are revisions on the phone (Rev1/2/3), it may be the cause of the lag. I first got 007 version Rev2 and I didn't notice any lag, however it seemed used, and I bought it as new so I returned it. The next two were Rev1s and both laged. I'll check and my new Rev2 today if there is a difference or maybe I just didnt pay that much attention at the time. Also, there is a difference between 007 version and regular one - the 007 model has better, in-ear headphones. Greets
+Damir Franc Hi sir. I am planning to buy this phone. It is not available in my country (India) so I am buying it from 28 mobile. After seeing the Xperia X series I was impressed but I am definitely sure that the Price would let me down. The Xperia X (SD 650 version) is going to Launch for 600$ and my budget is 500$. Should I go for this phone? I don't prefer the best phone but I definitely prefer 'One of the best phones'. Also is the camera good because I have heard that the camera is not good on this phone. Previously I planning to get the iphone Se but the price in my country is too high like 600$ for 16 GB! model. Please reply sir. Thank you
the problem with galaxy A series is that they don't get further software update, also I hate samsung's touchwiz os. My Pics are limited t social media only like Fb, Insta, snapchat etc. Will the Xperia Z5C do the job and i am a guy who constantly does experiments with the camera. PS: I am getting the Xperia Z5 compact for 460$ including shipping charges.
I'm thinking about selling my iPhone 6s and going with this phone. My question is, which color do you prefer? Black or white? Also, wo in Deutschland wohnst du? Ich hab familie in Hesse. Vielen dank.
Well I think I made my decision! Z5 here I come! In my country the price difference is like 50€. And thanks for your reviews! You should do a review using the remote play. Cheers!
i am in new york city. i went to many cellphone stores and they all said no. no one carries this. i realized that at the end of the day. i am planning on buying it online and importing it here.
+Damir Franc i bought the z5c in February and i love it and its battery life. The only downsides are the fact that it heats more than it should in some tasks and it is soooo slippery without a case
+Damir Franc Well, I'm searching for a phone...but also I want a big screen and good for gaming. Things it needs: -good performance -at least 5.5 screen -1080 resolution (because i just got a VR headset and with my bad phone i can see the pixels (lumia 535)) -android (at least 5.0) -camera, i dont care about that really. That's it... Thanks for responding :D
***** thanks man! Im looking forward to buy this device because i found it for 300$ brand new and i heard from some reviewers it has lags. So thank you for your answer
only weakness of this phone is the 4k camera however you should understand that cellphone cameras are for casual use, not serious work. otherwise ppl. use a real video camera or dslr. i think this is the best compact phone on the market as of summer 2016. i do not like large phones. i had a htc one m8 as well as an iphone 6 plus. those things (phablets) were monsters and very annoying to handle. single handed phones are the best and this one beats out anything else in the android market. i prefer it over iphone se as the storage capacity maxes out at 64gb while z5 compact can accept a dedicated 200gb micro sd card on top of the internal 32 gb default. it is also cheaper.
***** yeah agree 100% about the hype, most people don't even have a 4k TV it's just not cost effective yet, which is probably why it's being pushed so heavily in the market right now. I think 4k is 30fps where as 1080p is 60fps, 720p actually shoots at 120 which I really like, that camera can pick up stuff the human eye wouldn't ever have a chance of seeing. Over all great camera, and apparently the hardware actually supports manual focus (which sounds very appealing to me) you just need an app that can do it. Hopefully sony updates the camera app to include that feature soon because like you said macro stills can be a pain even if the autofocus works beautifully during recording (fastest I've ever seen, the new xperia X takes twice as long to autofocus and it's replacing the Z series!)
The most balanced phone i have ever seen
anyone else noticing that the comments have been sent more than once? great review again!
thank you... i am about to buy one next week, i hope i wont be disappointed, because i will get a used one.
15:30 touching on why the compact is louder, you could probably put that down to the extra thickness of the phone itself. Although it's only ~1.6mm thicker than the Z5, that's still a decent amount of room to shove deeper speakers into. Almost like putting a subwoofer onto a wooden floor compared to a concrete floor - more room to travel.

+Roy Sony's retiring the Z series and have the X series as the replacement for their flagship phones
+hyungwoo0312 there's a lot of lame google shit running in the backround on this device I've found...I'm gunna root it and make a vid about how much battery life is improved once you disable useless processes

Great review ! i'm going to buy the Z5 compact it seems to be an overall nice phone with a better size than all the other flagship phones

I'm American, but I'm a Surgeon in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Love Croatia...
+Damir Franc I spend a lot of time in Croatia and the Balkans.
Great review. Could you make a re-review now that it is on Marshmallow? I think the battery life took a big hit.
Hi, very nice review! I'm coming from a Z3C, have you noticed overheating issue in this Z5C with LTE web browsing or light gaming?

+Damir Franc but A3 is inferior to the Z5c. In fact, the specs of the Z5c simply destroys the A3 2016 + A5 2016
+Bashar A. Yeah I ended up getting Sony XA
Having used the device, have you experiences any of these issues?
which one should I buy among Z3+, Z5 compact, Xiaomi mi5, Zuk Z2?
Nice review at all.
+Damir Franc thanks a lot for the opinion. Peach be upon you.
Mr damir. How did you enable that bezel recent app switch gesture? It is an app or xposed module?
dear brother, I would like to know which app do you use for playing the sounds? I do not have the same app as yours. mine is called "music".
secondly, I heard that the screen of this phone is scratch resistant. is it true? and does it mean I don't have to put a screen protector?

How the form of the home button changed to a circle?
Would love to hear you thoughts on z5c vs op3. my concerns are camera quality and speed, performance, pocketability and easy handling.

+Damir Franc Well I will see what happens at MWC. It's a shame Sony kept the Z5 Compact Premium for the Japanese market, same phone with 1080P screen and 3GB RAM. Well lets hope the next Compact has those along with the 820 chip.
I don't understand, why does it feel so heavy compared to Z3C? The battery has only been bumped by 100 mAh...
Is it worth getting this over iphone 5s?
I´d like to see the rewiev of iPhone 7 because I want to know your opinion. or SE
Ok I just wanted to know your opinion about their camera and so. I don't even like Apple. 😀 Sony is what I do like. And talking about Sony will you rewiew the XA1 and XZ Premium and XZs?
Fantastic! Alright so thanks for some info and good night.
Damir should I take huawei p9 lite or Sony Xperia Z5 Compact..By your opinion which is the best by batery,processor,gaming,resolution..
really? I had to choose between these two phones and I chose z5 C
Is there over heating issue when gaming ,web browsing or when u do something with the phone?
And when using the camera for recording 4 k video
No, you can record in 4K over an half hour or more because of updates.
is it have a dual sim version?
I can get this phone for about $415. Do you think I should wait more for a price drop because $400 is a kinda boerderline too expensive for me. I can manage it but would prefer cheaper.
thanks for the reply. I was also looking at the xperia m5 for just about $300.w
I just ordered one while It is a really good price now (refurbished) and still good enough for me. untill the xz3 compact is more cheap.
Me too man. Im waiting for my z5 C. How is your experience with the Phone??
How is the battery Now?
Is there a lag (slight screen freeze) when entering the settings for the first time after booting (or after clearing recent apps and locking + waking the device and then entering the settings)? (You have to get to the settings and start scrolling right away to really notice it)
It happens to me on 3 different units.
PS: I am getting the Xperia Z5 compact for 460$ including shipping charges.
i know its a little bit of a silly question, but... what to buy... z5 Compact, p9 lite oz 5x?
p.s. like your reviews!
z5 is more future proof than those
I'm thinking about selling my iPhone 6s and going with this phone. My question is, which color do you prefer? Black or white? Also, wo in Deutschland wohnst du? Ich hab familie in Hesse. Vielen dank.
***** Klar. Ich auch. Danke!
have you tried the ps4 remote play on the z5c????
You're great man
What about the heating issues on this phone?
Thanks Men, what about gaming performance and some application, still heat up. Is it normal?
Well I think I made my decision! Z5 here I come! In my country the price difference is like 50€. And thanks for your reviews! You should do a review using the remote play. Cheers!
i am in new york city. i went to many cellphone stores and they all said no. no one carries this. i realized that at the end of the day. i am planning on buying it online and importing it here.
Does the 810 inside it make it overheat as much as people say?
*****
Does it heats during video playback? I travel a lot so music and video are a must during my rides.
*****
Thanks a lot for the review.
ill go from a 5.5 inch 1080p to this 4.6 inch 720p .... will it be bad for me as a whole ?
+Damir Franc i bought the z5c in February and i love it and its battery life. The only downsides are the fact that it heats more than it should in some tasks and it is soooo slippery without a case
This phone or the Iphone Se ?? Thanks
This phone for sure
Best phone i ever had.😀 next phone for me is xz1 compact😀
Does this one have a better front facing camera than XA?
Thanks for replying me :) Okay , I want the Z5 overall rounded phone but their front cam is not better than XA :(
should i exchange my galaxy s6 for this ?
what is better? sony z5 compact or samsung a3 2016? thank u
+Damir Franc thank you
Is the z5 compact still a good choice?
I am using the huawei p8 right now. Is it worth to buy the z5 compact next?
What's a very good performance phone with 5.5 screen?
And FHD resolution...please respond :0
+Damir Franc Well, I'm searching for a phone...but also I want a big screen and good for gaming.
Things it needs: -good performance
-at least 5.5 screen
-1080 resolution (because i just got a VR headset and with my bad phone i can see the pixels (lumia 535))
-android (at least 5.0)
-camera, i dont care about that really.
That's it...
Thanks for responding :D
I was thinking about huawei G8 or xperia c5 ultra....but i heard bad performance things about them
+Damir Franc So, do you maybe have a recommendation?
I just saw your review of the mate S, if you put VR-goggles on won't you be able to see the pixels? And does the mate S have any performance issues?
+Damir Franc LOL, you kidding me xD...dammit....
I just can't seem to find a good 5.5 inch gaming phone that's not ios but android 😭😭😭
I wonder why sony didn't make X compact
Was the UI laggy?
***** thanks man! Im looking forward to buy this device because i found it for 300$ brand new and i heard from some reviewers it has lags. So thank you for your answer
+Damir Franc thanks for your suggestion, i will probably go for the z5c
only weakness of this phone is the 4k camera however you should understand that cellphone cameras are for casual use, not serious work. otherwise ppl. use a real video camera or dslr. i think this is the best compact phone on the market as of summer 2016. i do not like large phones. i had a htc one m8 as well as an iphone 6 plus. those things (phablets) were monsters and very annoying to handle. single handed phones are the best and this one beats out anything else in the android market. i prefer it over iphone se as the storage capacity maxes out at 64gb while z5 compact can accept a dedicated 200gb micro sd card on top of the internal 32 gb default. it is also cheaper.
please compare this device with Sony X compact :)
best review
I love the compact too sad to hear that the new Xperia XA will not be compact size . .
the xperia x line is actually shitter than the z line. even if it's the flagships of sony today...
x Compact or z5 Compact?
x compact is not waterproof
z5 compact of course
nice pc background
Xperia Z5 compact or Xperia X compact ?????? 🙏🙏🙏😟
+Damir Franc ok thanks alot u r the best
I'M STILL USING IT ON 2019.... LOL
I still rocking at clasic z5.
Still good phone, it´s such a shame non-presence android 8.1 / 9.1 for this great device.
@@vojtapi how is battery life in late 2019? Thanks!
@@mard192837 after almost 3 years good.
Its one Day Phone.
Every Night needs to be charged.
@@vojtapi 4 hr sceen on time possible for each charge?
@@vojtapi you think battery reduced by 25 percent over time? Or reduced more like 50 percent? Thanks
Z5 compacts a user friendly for left handed persons!!!
middle finger for fingerprint scanner and in volume rack
Jhie is this phone still worth now?
Put a glass protector over it and it will feel better. Just get a good brand so it will fit nice and not be ugly and out of place.
Battery life in late 2019? Anyone?
yes z5c is the best one!
The 4k recording is just a marketing gimmick imo who really needs to shoot 4k on their phone loool
I save the last for the best !? You mean I save the best for the last
yup
Looks jojol he is the best
LOL i like ur accent.
lol you dragged the recap longer than usual
