9S already knew about 2B or at least suspected it, but he was heavily in denial about it, this moment made him stop averting his eyes and look at it straightforward.
This is the stuff that makes the anime worth it, seeing stories that were largely relegated to text be animated. Also the picture book is referencing the events of Nier Replicant and the very first Drakengard game that led to the formation of the Nier timeline. I would definitely recommend Replicant too when you're done with Automata.
I think the best way to describe this episode is beautiful tragedy, amazingly done. Also glad you keep supporting the show And thank you for the reactions! 😊
So The Giant & Red Dragon is a Super Important Refence to Nier's Prequel side Called Drakengard & The Book and Drawing Flash back is Refencing Nier Replicant The 1st Nier Witch is Great. Drakengard 3 & 1 is the Side That Start the Seres Leading up to Replicant 7 Automata With a lot of Sode Content & Nier Reincarnation. Hope You Check it out Some Time
The very start of the Giant and Dragon is the very end of Drag-On Dragoon / Drakengard. Ending E (would recommend not even remotely trying that ending if you do play Drakengard since it is an extremely sadistic rhythm game) of that game is what kickstarted the NieR world's events for NieR Replicant/Gestalt back on the PS3 where most of the other back story events were before humanity's extinction for Automata.
2:56 Funny thing. When NieR Automata was greenlit, the original NieR had sold only about 500,000 copies, yet Matsuda (CEO of Square Enix at the time) was personally a fan of the game and wanted a sequel made (with some conditions of course geared on making this sequel more profitable).
With this only A2&9S are the remain survivors, but they reveal why Devola&Popola have to suffer for the sin they commit after see was inevitable to stop. PS: the music in the beggining and during the tower entrance battle is called " Song of the Ancients"
The recurring theme that you find in Yoko taro's games is "nihilism", not the most heart warming subject if you ask me... => The games Nier Gestalt and Nier Replicant are the prequel to Nier Automata. You also have the Drakengard games even before that. If you want a small lore dive, read below : The energy released by the giant and the dragon was the main cause of the fatal illness that turned humans to salt and monsters. But despite knowing that, some humans saw an "opportunity" in this unknown energy. The ones spearheading "Project Gestalt" wanted to weaponize this "new type of energy". To speak of project Gestalt, it was doomed to fail from the start... Because placing your soul into a new unaging vessel was pretty much the same thing as killing one's own life. Killing one's humanity.
Its a straight line to depression for weeks on end. Hugs and head pats for Devola and Popola.

All my friends are dead, push me to the edge.

Love the nod toward Drakengard 1.

What I like about Nier is that it plays a lot with existencialism, but there is always a little hope in the end

That's super interesting Blaster thank you for that. I don't see myself playing those games so I don't mind the reveal.
@@DefinitivelyZach Your welcome ! Would you want more details ?
Just smile, fellow game knowers, just smile 😃
i want to shoot them up at the end 😃
Yeah, this season is just depression. And honestly, they cooked with this season. They really knew how to tear you up inside, like dang
I can't believe they spoiled Nier Replicant. Incredible this is the possible "good" route and "good" ending.
