If you string your crosses 4 pounds lighter than your mains it will make your sweet spot more effective, and the racquet will play how it was designed to play. I learned that trick a while back and it makes a difference my friend.
Not on every racket but I know what you mean. The pure strike might be a good example but keep in mind, for this example, I actually strung crosses HIGHER on the PA98 than the mains. And crosses 1lb lower on the pure strike. And even with that, the spin potential is very different.
I don't think the racket is not playing how it should, I think it just plays differently. It feels great! But it doesn't play the same.
The hits with the Strike looked pretty sweet!
Thanks 👍🏻 it's a good racquet just a very different style of one.
@@time410s One thing that I also noticed was that not only was the trajectory quite a bit lower with the Strike, but the ball was landing in the opposite court in half the time. Interesting to see how that may add time pressure to an opponent versus having to deal with a high bouncing topspin shot. I could count to two on the Aero, but only slightly over one for the Strike.
Thanks for the videos you put up. It's not easy to portray the differences in gear etc with tennis, since there are always so many variables. Very good video!
Thank you! I know what you mean. It's harder to get the penetrating speed with the PA98. It can totally be done but it's a different technique and more sensitive to technique whereas the strike just does that on nearly any ball you try to hit. Even when I try to apply crazy spin, it still insists on going right through the ball and sending a canon over the net. Interesting racquet and you can hit that kind of ball even from low heights. That's very hard with the PA98.
I just picked up a pure strike first generation 305g 16/19 and probably is best frame I've used. The previous frame was the pavs. Strung low with a multi it's a forgiving spin monster. Nice vid 👍🏼
Oh nice you got that kind of coral pink and gray colored one? That was always my favorite color scheme of the pure strike series but there's something nice about white too.
Glad you found a racket you are happy with 😁
@@time410s Black & Red version 2014.
@danschannel169 I think that's the one. Nice
This visually conveys the idea really well nice video man
Thank you, glad you appreciate the difference between and purpose of the video.
So with the yellow racket you hit moon balls, and with the other racket you hit quality balls. This shows that a racket that’s “more spin friendly” on paper is not always the right choice.
true, but I don't actually play that way. It is just a shot that is within reach for the PA98 and not so much with the other. That is the point. I can hit a ball with that kind of pace at that trajectory because of the spin it is able to produce. So I have that shot with the PA98 when I need/want it. It isn't as though it is locked into playing that way at all. This is an extreme shot at the limits of what the racquet offers in that way.
he is exaggerating the motion. You can hit lower with the pure aero if you WANT. Ironically babolat has decreased the launcg angle drastically in the latest model. Hope that helps!
100%
Luckily that tree was there to see the ball actually dip. Cool test. I use a pure aero rafa after using blade for 2 years and love the power. The spin difference isnt huge but somewhat noticeable
That tree had an unexpected purpose in it's existence
It looked like you play way better with the pure strike!
Some say that, some say the opposite. I think it's something about hitting through the ball. Some balls seem better for sure but many are just as good and better with the PA98 and the versatility of the PA98 definitely shows.
But thank you haha. Don't use either these days anyway lol. What are you hitting with currently?
You have got a point.
🙏
"it is the racket not the player"
don't hate the playa, hate the game grasya worldwide
Shots look better with the strike
Nice comparison! This is the reason why I hit with 6.1 Pro Staff 95 in the densest 18x20 you can currently find. Everyone is obsessed with spins but it gives shots a lot of arc, yes give you extra consistency but also substantially slows them down. If you want to be super aggressive and hit thru the court, outright winners left and right with flattish shots, Pure Aero wouldn’t be the best pick. Besides if you play doubles at all, same slower shots with the arc is no go.
The thing with this level of spin, though, is that I can arc over people and still pull the ball in with spin. And the racquet is stable enough to hit flat and with a lot of power through the court. But I would agree that is not the style this racquet specializes in. For that, I might go with a Pure Strike 18x20, personally. That racquet is also insanely dense haha check it out sometime. I bet it is very close to that density especially around the sweetspot. But I could be wrong, lmk if you ever compare.
@@time410s I played with Strike 18x20 gen 3 for a while. It’s lacking mass to be stable enough to really hit thru the court imo. You can possibly add 5-10g which still keeps static weight low at 310-315g unstrung but adding weight is quite difficult though. SW is already at 335 and can be even higher, thanks crappy Babolat’s QC. Wilson 6.1 95s (18x20) are 330+g unstrung and SW starts at 330 as well. So it’s super stable and solid, no twisting but you still can manage to swing these rackets for 2+ hours. And yes, string density is nearly identical on both.
Does the strike feel more flexy? It's heavy and kind of high swingweight but still pretty flexy which might feel a little noodly when hitting hard.
@@time410s I wouldn’t say PS 18x20 gen3 is flexy. The new gen4 is a bit more flexible but I haven’t hit a lot with it, maybe an hour max. Both gen3 and gen4 just feel unsubstantial, too light (while not that easy to swing) and “twisty” against higher paced balls all in comparison to Wilson 6.1s. And even my Wilson Shift Pro-s feel way more solid than PS 18x20 despite being quite flexible on more vertical swing paths.
I gotcha. I wonder what it is about them that feels that way for you. I forget if I felt a similar way for those exact reasons.
I play with the Pure Aero 2019 and I agree its crazy spin. However I play doubles with Pro Staff X. The good part is that the PS X is crisper on volleys and slices, but not effective at all on spinny forehands. Would you agree or is it just me or my technique?
I found that prostaff reasonably spin friendly but it's not on the same level. Handle weight generally helps but a racquet will always have its own limitations for things like spin. I'd say your technique is only able to express itself within the limits of the racket.
Like there is nothing I can do to get the kind of spin I can on the PA98 with the Pure Strike 18x20.
pure arrow 98 looked like a homing middle wtfff❤❤😂😂😂
Haha it kinda does. It takes a sudden and steep dive right at the apex, which is quite high. I love being able to shape a shot that much and it just isn't possible with the PS 18x20 but that isn't to say it doesn't have a different set of strengths going for it.
Why didn't you compare both at 16x19 ? Of course 18x20 will be more flat , it doesn't say much about the racquet , it shows the difference of string pattern .
To show the two extremes and how big the difference is. It's not a video designed to be an apples to apples comparison. More to show what the difference looks like.
I hope that helps!
Would like to see the comparison between pure aero 98 and pure strike vs 16x20 but the pure strike vs will need more weight in the hoop to compare to the pure aero 98 power.
It might happen sometime. I still haven't hit with the vs pure strike. I'll think about that weight. Shouldn't be too hard to even that out with my tools these days. I could even match twist weight 🤣
Interested in hearing your opinion on the pure strike vs against the aero 98. I think it'll come down to a matter of preference in flex rating and stability and I also think one will come out the winner in the control/precision category.
Tested today. I have answers. The vs reminds me a lot of the last generation vcore pro. A little less extreme but not entirely different.
Answers! Nice, can't wait! Vcore pro you say? I like that. If Yonex had more 16x20 offerings I'd be adding to my collection for sure, especially in the Percept lineup.
Yeah I think ever so slightly stiffer vcore pro 100 is best describing of the flex style and amount. It kind of flexes in all directions. I'll probably review it soon but it might be a few videos before that one. But it might be out within in a week or two.
One shines for spin and from the aero it's obvious the other one is a controlled racquet .
Strike is not a very forgiving racquet
Strike felt decently forgiving compared to some but it doesn't generate spin to pull in shots quite as well and that is something I look for. I like arcing a high ball and knowing I can still pull that in, or ripping a low approach shot that will still pull in. I feel like those shots are lost on the strike somewhat.
Not quite my style but not too far from it. Others are much further in that direction from the Pure Aero.
PA98 or PA100? What would you recommend?
Playing with the Blade V8 18x20 at the Moment.
98 would be closer in a few ways to that but I would suggest it anyway as I think it is the better racquet. I think it pockets better and has a more favorable balance of power/control/feel etc.
i love serves on the 100
I still think it's the player not the racquet, Thiem can hit higher topspin than Nadal for example, Thiem uses Strike and Nadal uses Aero
I've heard that is the case with Thiem and I wish I could see that for myself. Spin and launch angle are also different though. I think regardless of what spin argument you could make, the launch angle is even more obviously very different between the two racquets and Theim doesn't seem and arc shotted as Nadal.
Used the both same racquet with same tension and strings and aero was more for outdoor but strike is a killer in indoor
I wish all conditions were like indoor so wind wouldn't ruin the tennis haha. But being outdoors is obviously nice.
lol, indoor outdoor -.-
clay, grass, hard dude
Interesting. We can tell.
Working eyes go a long way haha. Glad you got em
@@time410sWuddd... Prfff. Definitely a difference. That's some nice spin 🌪.
You should try pure strike 16x19, also better control and net play from pure strike. I havw no problem to generate spin from pure strike 16x19
You prefer new to old? I think the new one is slightly soft for my taste but I might try again. I think the pa98 will still get more spin and I like that 16x20 pattern.
@@time410s yeah pa98 gives more spin for sure than PS, but you have access to spin with PS too just not at this level. i use PS16x19 previous gen version just because I value control and feel over spin. im all around player therefore PA100/PA98 not for me. Tried pure drive and pure drive Roddick in the past - lack of control and feel was a deal breaker for me.
I respect that. Yeah, it's hard to have it all in one. I also value control but perhaps lean on spin production to control depth and shape for my sense of control. Would you pick the PA98 over the PA100? Just curious.
@@time410s I would pick PA98 personally. Think difference depends on the game style. Baseliner would go with PA100. If you like to attack the net and you like mixing your shots PA98 make more sense to me.
I feel that. However, I feel they are much more similar than different and a heavy baseliner could still be very happy with the 98 but might want a tiny bit more touch or something like that for dropshots or just in general. Who knows! It is much more similar than different, imo. Nearly the same racquet, in other words. I just can't say they are different enough that the same player couldn't use either one rather interchangably, I guess.
Not to understate the differences, I just want to stress how similar they are vs other racquets.
I'd say an EZONE 100 is dramatically different compared to the EZONE 98 vs these two, for example.
Cheers!
Which string did you use on pure aero and on pure strike?
I've had many in the PA98 but in this video, Weiss Cannon UC (was testing, pretty good but not my first chioce) and Wasabi X in crosses. Pure Strike had ReString Zero
@@time410s Weiss Cannon UC explains the enormous spin. I am trying Volkl V-square currently. Do you think strings are more important than rackets (especially when most brands just false market their models with top players)? The only quality I want in a tennis racket is maneuverability so that it doesn’t harm my elbow.
@ElasticGum UC is great but so is Zero. Zero performs better for longer. Ether probably gets just as good spin if not better then Weiss. It's hard to say if string or racquet is more important. I might say racquet. I feel like in my video, the best spin string on the pure strike against the worst spin string in the other, the other would still win in spin.
Aero's shots lools too archy. It's not interesting tennis using moon-balls.
I can create spin by my hands. So My choice is Strike, because Aero is made for players (or children) who are lazy in terms of creating spin.
Hmmm you should see what it's like dealing with someone who can generate a lot on their own with a racket that takes it even further. These aren't moon balls. They push you back and are very heavy.
@@time410s using Babolat Aeto it's impossible to play deep in the court and the rival adapts to the spin and bounce and will nail all those "hard" spinny balls down the line. In addition, the serving is too slow.
Definitely not hard to play deep. Maybe you just aren't up against players who can do both with that racquet just fine. You make it sound like such a punishable racquet and it's clearly one of the most popular among advanced players and pros as well as intermediates.
The only case I can really find for you is some players might not adjust to the spin well so their balls might pull into the court earilier and are already a little softer hitting so balls kind of sit up and short more. That is just not the case with me or other players who adjust with no issues.
Hope that makes sense. I can't really sit here and keep arguing about the way the racquet plays and the merit of it when that stance is not my experience at all.
Can you play aggressively with the 98? Like does it also produce decent power with the spin? I'm actually looking for a racket which suits aggressive baseline play. Like I usually come to the net for easy put aways but I mostly like to dominate from the baseline
Absolutely. I can access my full range of power and I generally break normal poly strings within a few hitting sessions to give you an idea of how hard I hit.
It's a great baseline racquet
I think rafa origin 2023 suits you fine
@@LuckyPratama71 will definitely check it out. Thanks!
So I checked out a few reviews and it talked about the weight and the high swing weight. So I presently use a Head Prestige which comes at 320 g un-strung. Do you think I'd face problems with the Rafa Origin due to its higher weight in comparison to the other Aero rackets?
I would much prefer the 98 to the Rafa. I actually mistook your comment to be about the 98! So what I said was for the 98 but it's also true for the origin but the origin is more work for... Honestly IDK what.
Is the spin better? I don't think so. Plow through? Not necessarily...it depends. Better feel? I wouldn't say so either.
You'll have to see for yourself. One real issue is that you might get one 10-15 units of swingweight over what you're expecting. But it could also be that much under.
An over spec origin would be an unwieldy beast.
Compare aero 98 to ezone 98
That'd be fun. Maybe I could. I was very acquainted with the EZ98. I'll think about it.
With the aero, the hits were off screen so i couldn't see the technique but i was able to see 1 shot. With that shot, the racquet swing was higher as the back foot stayed back. With the strike I could clearly see the complete rotation into the shot with the back foot swing forward. Thus the racquet swing was lower. Either the author was affected mentally by his beliefs and subconsciously swung differently or he did it purposely for the vid.
Or the racquet plays in such a way that is different. Sometimes you need to adjust your swing for the trajectory. The same exact swing with one could be out with another racquet.
Seems you are also hitting deeper with the PA?
Maybe. It's a stiffer racquet and pretty much just more my style in every little way. Tried the new models too, I'll say more in future content but my 16x20 100 video is up.
@@time410s I"ve been averaging 1.5 demo rackets a week for the last couple of months. I think it now comes down to either the Pure Aero 100, or the VCore 100. Will demo the PA 100 one more time as it's been a while
What did you think of the PA98? That one won me over a fair amount vs the 100. Felt a little more solid and versatile and comfortable and controlled.
I def liked it, but I think at 60 yo, I’m looking more at 100 inch rackets. Less demanding on my form and a little extra power.
I gotcha. Let me know what you end up picking! If you want to check out another spin monster that is shockingly comfortable for the spin/power that it offers (on par with the racquets you mentioned) I highly suggest checking out the CS series from Dunlop. I'm messing around pretty seriously with the SX 300 Tour and 300, a 98 and 100.
Still in disbelief with these and hope to keep them around.
Which one is better for noobs?
Hard to say. Pure strike lineup has a few I'd only suggest for more advanced players. Pure Aeros can all go either way, more or less.
It seems you hit moon ball with Pureareo, and hit flat shot with the pure strike. Cannot tell the spin difference.
Both have me applying as much spin as I can. The results speak for themselves. It's a much flatter hitting racquet.
Compare to Rafa Origin 2023 please man
Hmmm maybe I'll check that one out again.
@@time410s thanks man, really appreciate it. Keen to see the comparison
It's heavy! You're interested in a racquet with a 350+ swingweight average? I wonder if it's a very popular racquet. I rarely see it, personally.
@@time410sI have both 98 and Rafa Origin. I was using 98 previously and loved it with no issue. After I realized that I don't like its high launch angle just like your review, then I decided to buy Rafa Origin. After give Rafa Origin a try last week, currently this is my favorite weapon. The launch angle is much lower than 98 and I just feel that rafa origin generate more spin than 98. So I can confidently play aggresive with Rafa Origin (at least for me).
Nice. I wonder what the specs are. PA98 can be pretty high but I like that. But loose strings can be a little ridiculous.
Pure aero the best!!!!
I'm a big fan of the pa98
Jesus, yes, jesus
Las cuerdas que usas son una autentica basura
