I have this security camera style solar light and the board in it died so I modded it into a nice flashlight with a small 5v 1A USB power bank mounted inside the light. The original solar panel is still on the light. I'd like to make my light chargeable by just leaving it out in the sun. I like that USB cord you have with the three ends for different devices.
I just bought the same stepdown module along with 10W (12-18V) panel.. It still does not give too much juice but it's rainy today.. thumbs up for your vid but use bigger solar panel bro.. they're still pretty uneffective, maybe in future they'll find a way how to squeeze more juice from it so they'll be smaller but still give more current

This might be fun for DIY people, but I just tried charging a 60000mah battery with a 20watt solar panel. The end result was the battery got from 0-15% in about 10 hours. Not exactly practical lol.

Buck converter handles 24V, i have tried 4 panels in series to get 24v*0.1A power. For old mobiles to charge you atleast need 10W charging or 2A current at 5V....Video only shows that mobile charge indicator is turned on when it gets 0.1A current which is true.. However it will not juice up your battery even by 1% no matter how long you keep it in sunlight...

It does not work. He has not shown if the charge is going up. I tried it out and saw that instead of charging the mobile, it began discharging and losing its charge. Does not work the way he is trying to show it to be. Was a complete failure for me. Did any of you guys succeed in this fail experiment?

You didn't state the battery voltage of the PS- that's sort of a big deal. I assume it's 12 volt. If so, you could perhaps get this idea to work but you would waste a bunch of power boosting the 5V all the way up. A boost converter is less efficient than a buck converter. That's a BIG Boost. If it's 12 volt, use a 12 volt (18-21) solar panel. I bought my 30 watt standard panel for way less than $50. You don't need a foldable panel, that's just another gimmick. A 30 watt standard is small, portable, more stable, better power and easier to setup and take down than that folding panel. It takes 10 seconds. That foldable panel is to hook to USB. I just want a regular 5V-6V 10 watt panel (that would crank with a phone or bank).

Bought one a couple months ago and loved it so much I purchased a second one and gave it to my granddaughter as a gift. We're avid campers so power banks are an absolute must have. I also like to keep these charged for when the power at home goes out which has happened a couple times this year. They are so convenient and easy to use. You can charge multiple devices at the same time. The compass is a nice added bonus. I appreciate how quickly this arrived. I am curious to see how long these take to charge in the sun.

If I were to use a usb buck converter that could handle 30V, could I wire 4 panels in series (20v) . What Im getting at is would it help amperage?

@@ndumisojzungu2560 We don't get much sun in the UK so I just binned the idea and just plug into the wall now. I learned that these cheap solar panels only last 1-4 years anyway.

First - it is NOT a charger - its a power supply!
It shows a shocking lack of knowledge - it is like a Grade 4 project done by the slowest kid in class.
