Thanks for sharing such an intimate part of your crafting. Struggles & frustration are no fun, especially when you’re trying to create! I can absolutely empathize with the exasperation & vexation of things not going the way you want them to. Beautiful cards, regardless of the hiccups it took to get them to finished projects!!
Jennifer, you are an excellent teacher. One of the teaching techniques is the non-example. Basically showing errors is a good way for the learner to see errors are stepping stones.
So relate-able!! When I get frustrated I just walk away. Maybe get on the treadmill to clear my mind, maybe start dinner prep, maybe just shut the craft room door until another day. Thank you for sharing today. Your cards are stunning!
I have severe depression. Most days my cardmaking is wonderful therapy for me. Some days, it seems to remind me of how imperfect I am - edges don’t line up perfectly, what I envisioned doesn’t work out, I lose a piece, I get glue or ink on the back of the card, etc., etc. Thank you for your honesty. It is going to help me immensely on my bad days. I’m an imperfect human and that’s a wonderful thing to be. ❤
As a regular passenger of the struggle bus, it's reassuring knowing that the crafty youtubers deal with the same things, so thank you for putting that out there Jennifer. Also darn you, now i need to go shopping again, i'm a paste-a-holic lmao
Thank you for your humility! I am not a cardmaker at all, but I enjoy watching you create because I love papercrafts and feel calmed by your voice. Take care ❤
Beautiful cards, but more importantly.... A very encouraging video. I need to hear that mistakes, off days, losing your tools without moving any where, frustrations abounding, etc are NORMAL. I suppose it is a good thing that we don't have an edit button on our daily lives. Keeping things honest with myself, means acknowledging that things don't always go according to plan. Thank you for the beauty you create in peoples lives. I know the people who receive my cards are encouraged. When you inspire and encourage us, it multiplies that encouragement more than you could ever imagine. Thank you. You inspire, encourage, motivate, educate, teach, etc, etc, etc. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing your struggles…..makes crafting more relatable, especially when you are learning….mistakes are part of learning and we are all at different areas of our learning journey….don’t compare your work with someone else’s….appreciate theirs and yours….
Thank you Jennifer for sharing "real" time hassles and struggles. It truly does bring some reassurance to those of us who are not making cards daily and feel so inadequate when we make mistakes and have to start over. We always tend to think you guys are perfect at this since you work with it all of the time. Your videos are always so beautifully shown and your voice overs are always so in sync. Thank you for spending time with us and sharing your skills and ideas and even your mistakes. You are appreciated very much.
Thank you for once again sharing such helpful techniques and also for the very honest "behind the scenes" info! I was a teacher for 30+ years and one of the most memorable things I learned from a veteran teacher was to be sure to let students know how helpful mistakes could be. Inspired by her, I kept a poster up in my room that read, "Mistakes are an opportunity for all of us to learn." That's true whatever our age and regardless of the content being taught, so thank you for letting us all learn how you used your mistakes to be more creative and/or to learn what to do the next time not to repeat them! I figure mistakes must be one of the reasons there are so many different erasers out there on the market!!!
Mistakes just show we are human and adds the homemade touch. Thanks for leaving in the mistakes for encouragement to others. Thank you for sharing your talents that God blessed you with having to help others
Jennifer, thank you for your reality check and sharing your hard earned wisdom. Having those frustrating days makes the "perfect" ones so much sweeter❣️
Thank you for keeping it real. You have helped so many crafters, me included. It is hard to fail but that is life and it is important to try again (it is how we learn), to keep moving forward. You stay so positive and that is very helpful. The cards are so lovely. Thank you. Hope your trip is filled with many blessings.
Oh Jennifer I'm so sorry you were having an off day. Thank you for showing us that even professionals have off days. You are our inspiration for carding. Our motto is "if Jennifer does it, then so can we".
Cathy Zielske said that her mistakes end up in a bin her husband draws from for grocery lists -- prettiest grocery lists around! So I do that, too -- mistakes go into a pile for me to make lists, etc. We don't keep every piece of our kids' artwork, right? The house would collapse! But every piece they create helps them improve their skill and talent. Us too, right? Thanks Jennifer! 😊
I appreciate you sharing you trials/tribulations with us. Sometimes I get frustrated because it is not as easy as you make it look so this brings it back into focus that we all have "days" that we jut aren't our best. Thank you. Patience is a virtue but I am not known for that lol.
I love hearing you talk about your frustrations because we all have days like that. I have found that I have made some of my best projects when trying to fix a mistake. I think it's because I have to be more creative to make it work!
Jennifer, thank you so much for reminding us that even the professionals make mistakes. I love you. I love what you stand for and I love the example you set to spread kindness wherever you go.
Can’t wait to “see” you at SCT C&CD in September! It’s my first one!
Hugs from Texas 🤗🤟🏼🩷
I've made some mistakes that are flat out hilarious they're so bad, I've actually saved the photos in a folder so I can go back and have a laugh sometimes! But you're right - they're all part of the learning process. Thanks for sharing!
Just now seeing this video as I just purchased some lunar pastes. Beautiful cards as always Jennifer. I really appreciate you being transparent about your mistakes & struggles and challenging craft days. We all have “off days” but we just push past the struggles until we are satisfied with our projects. In the end, we learn and grow and end up making beautiful cards. Thank you for sharing this video. I learn a lot on your channel. Thank you for sharing your love of crafting and your beautiful designs. ♥️ God bless
Thank you Jennifer, we learned many good things with you. This it’s a pretty lesson of humility and patient because when I do a mistake I immediately think “Jennifer never will do this kind of horrible and dumb thing ☹️” …lol. But with some fixing that I also learned from you ❤ I get at the end a beautiful design. But it’s important to see you doing some mistakes and don’t giving up until you have a wonderful result. 🎉🎉🎉🎉. I feel better and you inspire to us to still doing that we love 💕 and of course seeing your video’s it’s always an heavenly inspiration 😘
Hello Jennifer, I hope that today is a better day for you. I hold card making class with a group of ladies, some of whom get very disheartened by mistakes they make in class. I always say “It is just paper and ink” and “you didn’t see all the mistakes I made” but today I am sharing your video with them in our group. They all know I am a huge fan of your and think you are amazing…. And I have regularly referenced you as a source of inspiration for either a technique or card design, so I am sure they will all feel just a little bit less disheartened next time they are in class and make a mistake, when even the GOAT of card making has a bad day and makes a few mistakes. I applaud your bravery for sharing both the video and sharing when you have a bad day or need a break. Thank you 🙏🏻, for both your fantastic videos and sharing so much of yourself with us. Xx
Jennifer, thank you so much. I needed to see this video today and hear your message. I spent the afternoon in my craft room with a friend of mine who also makes cards. She is used to hearing me bemoan the fact that I can't make my cards perfect, that they don't look like your cards. I often beat myself up and put so much pressure on myself to make my cards as good as yours that I give myself anxiety, and then I don't end up enjoying my creative time. My creativity gets blocked. I forget that the whole reason I started making cards in the first place was because I fell in love with creating them, and the joy it brought me. I can wish forever that my cards would be as beautiful and creative as yours, or I can release that pressure I place on myself and get back to enjoying the process, regardless of the outcome. You are very gifted and I love the joy you bring to others with your beautiful cards. I just have to remind myself that I'm not you, and that my own creativity has value and has brought joy to many of my recipients. Thank you so much for your message today. Big hug!!
I appreciate the videos that show the "experts" struggle some days too.
Thank you for showing mistakes, it's important that we realize everyone, even pros make mistakes. No one is perfect. Mistakes are fixable. Your cards are lovely. Love the solar paste
Great video! Thanks, Jennifer, for keeping it real. Loved the cards. Your example at the end where you flipped the stencil is beautiful! We learn so much from you. I'm looking forward to your next lesson.❤
Jennifer, you are always so sweet and caring. Your cards are always fabulous. I usually do not have a favorite, but the pink one I absolutely love.
I'm having a rough day feeling stupid about my supplies, so this video popping up as a "suggested watch" was perfect timing. Thank you for being transparent about the struggles even pros such as yourself deal with. It helps! ❤
It is really great to see your mistakes or boo-boo's because you also show us how to fix them. Thank you for being honest and keeping it real for us.
Seeing you tear that ‘y’ made it much easier to give myself some grace about the mistakes I make. You have done videos discussing the imperfections before but for some reason, that tear struck a cord. Thank you so much for sharing
I appreciate you sharing your experiences and struggles! I love your tutorials and all the teaching you bring- the professional flavor and the real life. It’s given me crafty joy!!
Thanks for sharing. I can’t believe people think you don’t have creative blocks or make mistakes. You’re only human.
Thank you, thank you for showing that you too mistakes. I have watched you for years and enjoy all of your the techniques that you show. You are amazingly creative.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who loses things on their desk while crafting!😅
I love your honesty. It struck me while watching how hard it must be on those rough days to keep pushing through, knowing you have a deadline or some other professional reason to finish the project. I’m grateful as a hobbyist that when my frustration and my mistakes mount, I can walk away, and no one will care. It’s challenging to have a creative profession! And, flipping that last stencil layer was brilliant! ❤
Great video Jennifer. Love the techniques and the results, but my favourite part was knowing that I am not the only one who makes mistakes. I hate those days where everything goes wrong. Sometimes I just have to put it aside and come back to it with fresh eyes on another day. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on mishaps. I find sometimes it can be a blessing in disguise. We are always learning as crafters within this supportive community. Happy Crafting from Scotland.x
Thank you to share your struggels and "lost" tools on table. It will help to know that I'm not alone when I'am hunting for tools or get frustrated about mistakes. Nice cards.
Thank you so much for sharing your mistakes, it has helped me immensely! I (unfortunately) am a perfectionist & when I’m creating & make mistakes (which happen a lot!!) I always think to myself “why can’t I get it perfect like Jennifer Mcquire”. It was so nice to see that everyone makes mistakes when crafting & it’s OK. This video helped me refocus & allow myself some grace when crafting! Thank you again for sharing this very important lesson & for all of your amazing videos!!
Jennifer, your videos are always amazing. For you to share how you sometimes struggle, shows how genuine you are and that you are truly here to help us improve. All your tips help those of us who are not professionals to realize that no one is perfect. You encourage us to continue to make cards, try new techniques and to know we will improve. Thank you for the educational videos and techniques, and for all the supplies you introduce to us and illustrate how to use them. 💜
THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!! For showing your mistakes.!! As I am crafting, I always feel like such a doofus because I am doing so many things WRONG You, as a pro, showing that you make mistakes too, just makes me feel, as a beginner, so much better!!
Thank you so much for sharing this video. It is good to be reminded that I am not alone who struggles through the creative process. Very refreshing and encouraging video. Only true crafter can reveal their mistakes to the world. 🤗🤗🤗
Jennifer thank you so much for including all of these mistakes! Your videos are always so polished and amazing and I have learned so much over the years! Thanks for reminding us everyone has an off day and it is fine.
Thank you for showing your mistakes. It makes you and your projects more approachable. 😊
Thanks for another great video Jennifer!
It's really refreshing to actually "see" the mistakes that are made, I know this will help me when I'm frustrated like I was yesterday.
How is it possible to say enough thanks to you for opening up on this marvellous video. I lost all creativity (creatively blocked) for a couple years. I bought every stamp/die/inkpad/tool suggested in the crafty world. Nothing sparked that flow of wow like before. So I just stopped watching crafty videos. Stopped buying product that would not get used. My years of card making felt unfulfilling now. Then I saw this video that stresses what we are presented in this crafty space are perfections, tiny pieces of edited art that mask the realities of errors, mistakes and redos. I really needed to see you make faux-pas and correct them or hide them or redo them. I wonder if perfectly edited videos that demonstrate techniques from (easy to complex) setup us up for failure. We all compare our work to yours hoping to inch closer and closer to your excellence. So today 5 months after you posted this "honestly edited" video, I felt a deep sign of relief. I finally saw the upper echelon of crafty royalty makes mistakes too. I hope you'll consider editing future videos a little bit more forgiving (to yourself, your talent) and for us that look for exciting new techniques, inspiration and growth. I was moved today. I think you deeply Jennifer.
Boy Jennifer, for somebody who had a bad day, You made some pretty amazing cards!!
but that doesn't surprise me, and I love the way you edit things out so we don't have to wait for you...to go find an ink pad or find a stamp, or whatever, you get the job done❤
Thank you for showing us your human side. I’ve always felt it’s just as important to see you pros take us through your process for fixing mistakes as it is showing us your skills and techniques. This video was both appreciated and educational. I’d like to see a little of your “frustration” in your videos. It’s a lot of pressure for us simple crafters when your all so perfect on screen.
Beautiful cards. I have some is the lunar pastes and now I must have the solar pastes too. Thanks a lot. 😅
Thank you for your honesty, to hear everyone struggles helps me realize I’m not the only one ☺️.
Sometimes I need to stop and leave the project for a bit , when I return to it I’m a bit rejuvenated.
I really appreciate the reminder...I have those bloopers endlessly. They actually are a huge part of the final card design... all the cover-ups! You are amazing and the cards are gorgeous!
Hi Jennifer I LOVE 💕 your cards! Thank you for showing us that we are all humans and make mistakes. I’m sorry you were having a tough day crafting….we have all been there!! Your cards turned out beautiful!! I love that your true colors as a person shows in your videos. You are a genuine person and artist. This is why I LOVE 💕 your videos! Plus, I learn SO much about card making 😊I love your videos long or short!! Thank you!!!
I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in saying I really enjoy these more transparent, "less edited" videos. In can be disheartening to struggle with a tool or technique when 'all the UA-camrs' seemingly have no trouble at all.....especially if you happen to be having one of those difficult days. Thanks for your honesty Jennifer.
Thank you Jennifer for showing us that your human like all the rest of us. Ha ha. However your cards still turn out so great and beautiful. Ahhh that shows your creativity and artistry...You can find your way out of the rabbit whole no matter what..... pat
Thanks Jennifer making it real for all of us. Some days just don’t go as we like. Loving the lunar paste. Your card are beautiful
This is so helpful. I get discouraged sometimes and tell myself that you guys have so much experience and/or degrees in design and that's why you don't mess up. It's very reassuring to know the struggle is real everywhere. I've also learned that when there's a significant gap in making, I feel as if I have to relearn everything. I get out of practice and have to rebuild 'muscle memory.' I think you do an amazing job, btw.
The struggle is real! I can so relate to the crafty day you had. On those days I make sure to give myself more grace, maybe take a nap, and try again later. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Thanks for sharing and being transparent. Honestly, I don't mind seeing the mistakes. It's still good teaching because we learn how to deal with the mistakes. It's real life.
I love your honesty in your card making. Thank you for sharing your struggles. Your videos are always professional and inspirational.
Such great cards Jennifer! Thank you for sharing! We all make mistakes, we are human after all and I like that you kept it in your video. Like Gina K says, it’s better than horrible. Lol However, some of mine are horrible and end up in the trash bin. I’ve been a crafter for 40+ years and making mistakes is part of the process. I still make a LOT as the crafting has evolved over the years! Love it, mistakes and ALL!😘
The Solar Paste is really beautiful, it will need to go on my list of products to try. Thanks for the reminder that we all make mistakes and get frustrated by them. I don’t do card making or crafting for a living so I’ve learned to embrace some of them as “design elements” , 😊. Sometimes I re do or fix them. Crafting is my happy place and I always strive to keep it happy. Also, I only give my projects to people I admire, like and love and they never give them back because they found a mistake. I always enjoy your creative take on product and try to remember to click on your links when I do buy Products you have brought to my attention. ❤
Jennifer, love that paste and your cards were beautiful, mistakes and all. Good that you remind us all that sometimes we struggle and it's okay. All part of the creative process. Thanks for being real and normal. 😊
Thank you for this video. Sometimes I feel I'm the only one who doesn't make perfect cards, and I want to give up. You've shown me we're all not mistake proof makers!
Thank you so much for showing us the mistakes. To me that is so helpful and encouraging. I get so frustrated and want to just give up sometimes feeling like it’s just me. You are a treasure and a blessing❤️❤️
It’s great to see the human side of our idols. I always said I wanted to be Jennifer Mcquire when I grow up. I’ll take all the perfections and imperfections, it’s all good. Your work is lovely. Now with every video I’m going to be pondering any difficulties you may have had in creating your masterpieces! Oh how I love a good mystery😂.
Thanks for another great video.
I love that you make mistakes too. I make mistakes all the time. Some days are better than others. I learn so much from your videos Jennifer, thank you.
Ty for sharing the bloopers and for encouraging us to continue. Have a great day! Solar paste rocks!
I just love you. Thanks for showing us that mistakes are part of the journey.
Thank you for letting us know you have those days too! My SIL is a big quilter and she tells me she has to use her seam ripper all the time still!
I feel like I use my seam ripper more than my sewing machine 😂😂😂 (I think if I were timing it hourly, I definitely would)
Jennifer, I'm sorry to know you struggle sometimes, but SO appreciate that you're willing to share them with us. Thank you! 🤗♥️😘 I love love love your cards! The flower card is my favourite because I'm a flowery kind of soul ... but that final, flipped stencil piece is just such pure eyecandy! 😍❣️😍 I think I need a cheat-sheet of all your tips and tricks please! 😬😜😂
Thank you for this video Jennifer - not just for the cards - which are stunning - but also sharing you creative journey with these cards. I’ve been card making for years - 32 years to be precise - and I still have days like you had. Sometime I despair at the errors I can make - but it’s a huge encouragement to me that you have days like this as well. I am a perfectionist in very few things, but it seems as though my cards have to be as perfect as I can achieve and I can really best myself up for tiny mistakes that someone else might not even notice. How crazy is that - because making cards is one of the things I love to do more than almost anything else. Your wise words are an encouragement to me to just enjoy creating, to do my best, and to accept that mistakes happen to all of us, and we can just carry on and produce lovely results in spite of the wobbles on the way! Thank you Jennifer 😍♥️
Thanks for showing and explaining your errors/problems. Next time this happens to me, I will just say to myself “it’s just paper. Even the master card makers have these same problems”. It might become my mantra.
Thanks for sharing your struggles 😄 I OFTEN have days where nothing seems to go right, in the craft room😏. Since crafting isn’t my job, I have the luxury of being able to walk out of my craft room for an hour,a couple of hours, or sometimes all day. When I come back, my crafting universe seems to have corrected itself and I’m ready to tackle my projects!😊
Love the crafty bloopers. It’s just how it goes some days ❤
I love how professional your videos are, but thank you for sharing your struggles; we can all relate
Yes we all live & learn at everything we do in life! We are only human❣️ love that solar lunar paste, you made beautiful cards from it!
This was the best video!!
As much as your Ideas help. it also helps to see professional ‘fail’ too!!
So thank you! It is very inspiring to keep going with errors!
Thanks for your honesty! We all make mistakes but we figure out what to do with them. Being creative is so much fun in the end!!! Have a wonderful trip❤
Just the right amount of mistakes, we're all human!! Appreciate seeing how you worked around the oops. Great uses for the Solar paste!!
Amazing video as always Jennifer! Such gorgeous projects and I love how you used solar paste over the beautiful florals.❤️✨
❤ thank you for sharing all the steps and the mistakes on the way. I struggle with many creative tasks and it helps to know that even the experts go through that at times.
Thank you for the honesty. I feel intimidated by the videos like yours that I watch and wonder why I struggle so much. This will remind me not to be so hard on myself!
So refreshing, Jennifer! Things brings my expectations of myself into a manageable arena. Otherwise, I chunk it and start over….or just quit altogether! Love your videos and wait expectantly!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU...I have always thought how lame I was since I could NEVER cut the excess paper on the sides off with scissors...I ALMOST ALWAYS cut into the frame that I did not want to cut...and watching you guys do that so easily I just thought that I was just not talented enough to do it with a scissors...I generally will do it with my cutting board... this makes me feel better...Maybe I am not as lame as I thought I was LOL!
Thanks for showing your human side as well as your great creative side!
Thank you Jennifer for your talent and mistakes! Great teaching video.
Thank you 😊 for all you do for the card making community and thank you for doing a variety of content and techniques in your videos.
I really enjoyed this video & yes we all have those days. They’re not mistakes but rather an opportunity to think outside of the box to make them work x
Thank you for sharing your mistakes. There are days when nothing goes right for me, and l feel very frustrated, so it is good to know that even the professionals have off days. Your cards and ideas are amazing.🤗Thank you again.
Thank you! I've been so frustrated by the difficulty I have creating certain cards. You've helped me see that it's not just me...everyone can have an off day.
16:33 thanks for keeping it real, Jennifer! The card is beautiful!
Jennifer, Thanks for being real with us. There have been many cards that needed doctoring. If all else fails, throw it away!
I think we all have days like you had. I tend to walk away and return to it the next day. I really enjoy your videos .
Hi Jennifer, sorry to see you having such a frustrating day - amazed to see the brilliant cards you still produce🤩. I used to loose tools in my creative crafting chaos all the time - now I use one of these SimonSaysStamp silicone paw do-hickeys, it sits, very brightly coloured, on my desk and I dump all the tools I use again and again (tweezers, picks, bone folder, spatula, scissors…) on it. That way I know where my stuff is - most of the time anyway. Give it a try, if you like. Kind regards from Germany, Nicola
Leaving in occasional “challenges” aka mistakes is part of good teaching too. In the future I hope you leave a couple in. It’s relatable and helps take the self-made burden of perfectionism off card makers, especially newbies.
Thank you for what you said about struggling. I’ve been watching you for years and always thought your videos were perfect hence you being a professional. It was my dream to obtain your level but afraid to start filming because I know nothing about editing or making great videos or the equipment so I just tell myself it’s just a hobby and people don’t want to watch an amateur make bad videos. I’m a card maker and it’s my therapy so I give up my ideas of obtaining higher level of professional card making or being on design teams as my struggles are always telling me lies. Thanks for letting us know that the struggle happens to you too.
Thanks for showing how you “struggle” just like us!!! You are awesome!!
Jennifer you make me laugh because I have cur things wrong, dropped things on things still drying. We all really appreciate you sharing your bloopers with us mortals ha ha. Love these cards sl much. tfs lovely
beautiful cards. Thank you for sharing you make mistakes too, because some days I feel like you all don't make mistakes. You all are real and I love it.
Thank you for showing that you struggle sometimes it makes it easier for the rest of us! The amount of cards that you make And the work that you put in on your channel here It's amazing! You struggle with any mistakes because You want to present the best Videos that you can. I appreciate all that you do and I've learned so much watching you ! Thank you so much!
