Suzuki for me bullet proof and styling looks proper retro. My fave hands down. Would love to see Suzuki build an offroad version geared more to the Paris - Dakar winning bikes used in the mid 80s.
Just received my brand new Africa Twin standard version. It's an amazing bike. Absolutely love it. Previous bike was 2002 Varadero and the upgrade is huge
Nice review, I ride a bmw1250 daily, bought a vstrom 1050 for a winter commuting bike. If it was a choice out of enjoyment factor,be the vstom. I have rode most of the adv bikes on the market, and the strom is the one I'd still choose, few reasons ,great proven motor, simplistic. Great handling . End of the day ,it's fantastic price.
That's because Suzuki hasn't really produced anything new for at least four years, in this case the V-strom is an 18 year old bike with updated clothes and some electronics , this time styled by an ex employee of Lego. Rides nice though and well priced.
Best RIDING adv bike. That v-twin is SMOOTH! I'm on my second V-Strom. To me, everything else feels like a compromise on the street. And although I go do all the stuff that any other ADV does, the real truth is that 99% of my miles are on the daily commute. 😁
I know Im randomly asking but does anybody know a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot my account password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me
Good Vid thank you, Refreshing to hear the V-Strom get some love for a change, and not compared to bikes over twice the price. I Have the poverty spec version with cast wheels, got it for well under 10K and think its brilliant. Also sounds great with an after market pipe.
I would have the Suzuki all day as it’s got everything you need. You guys got it right for me with the score, for 5 years I’d take the Suzuki too. Great video thanks guys
Thanks for the video and the honest review. I already have a Suzuki Vstrom 1000 and I love it. But I would like to test the AT at least one time. It seems that the Suzuki is better for a long term relationship and the Honda AT is better for a short adventure
3 bikes in the garage, 2 YAMAHA (Vmax 1200 1989 - thunderace 1000) 1 Suzuki, got the Vstrom 1000 K4 in 2004 and it's my every day all season commuter today i checked and has just over 132K miles only with basic maintenance good bike never failed me. Would i buy the new one? Yes!
I’ve been riding since 1964 dirt bike street bikes ect I’ve had hundreds of motorcycle over the years and I’d have to say my 1050 vstrom is by far my favorite motorcycle to date it’s a wonderful bike I love it ✌️
Interesting comparison, I had the previous generation vstrom 1000 XT and it was an excellent bike. Even as a Honda fan boy, I would buy another vstrom no problem at all. The bike is unfairly dismissed as a bit of a poor mans choice, the only problem with the bike was a snatchy throttle which maybe has been addressed by the new ride by wire throttle. The rest was brilliant as a real world all round bike it was superb, the transmission was perfect, the riding position was all day comfortable and when treated with acf50 the finish held up as well as any other bike I have had. You will also shortly see the usual Suzuki finance packages and offers, which make the bike even more attractive. The Honda switch cluster on the left bar is ridiculous, eleven buttons, no backlighting and the TFT working only with Apple devices ? As an Android user it would be a no go. The Suzuki switchgear is simple and the screen is perfectly acceptable. Unfortunately the weight on the strom has crept up. Get rid of the crash bars and end can, and I suspect the weight could get down to the 232kgs of the previous version. It looks great in the red and white too, I would have to avoid a test ride otherwise I would probably sign up for the new one. It may not have the cred of some of the other bikes but it is a great bike for riding at sensible speeds in total comfort and I always felt it had a comforting feeling that it would get you home no matter what. I wouldn't bother with the aluminium luggage, I had the three box set on mine and while it was great quality (SW Motech) the panniers were mounted very high, above the level of the seat, which could make getting on and off a bit awkward.
@@ne21 yep, you learn to ride around it by slipping the clutch on mini roundabouts etc but it's still there. I queried it on the first service, dealer said the bike has an old engine, which is true, and in order to get it through emissions regs it runs very lean. They said best fix is to install a booster plug which fools the engine into thinking it's colder than it is, which helps it run rich slightly and smoothing out the throttle at lower speeds.
I don't know how much the reviewers emphasized this, but there's almost a 50 cc displacement difference between these two bikes (Honda being more cc's). That's issue 1. Issue 2 is we don't know what "Traction Control" setting either bike was in. I can almost guarantee that if the V was in TC1 it would lose in a drag race. Issue 3 is Honda's 21 in. front wheel is trail/off-road oriented, the Suze 19 inch is more for the road. Both bikes will work acceptably (fine) in opposite environments, it's just that both bike manufacturers went in different directions as to the primary use. I agree Honda may be going toward competing with the BMW 1200(1250), whereas the V is staying in its niche. The weight on the Honda AT can vary from 501 to 553 lbs. depending which model or whether a DCT version. Honda generally does not build light bikes. So the AT can either be a little lighter than a V or 15-20 lbs heavier. Lastly, issue 5 is we don't know how tall the reviewers are and how they found the differing ergos. I know the Honda AT was a tall bike when i first hit the showrooms and I fit fine on my 2014 V Strom. Maybe it's different a few model years later. All that said, the 2020 Honda may be the better bike by a little but may not be worth the extra money. I think either way, we can't go wrong with either bike, and it will come down to taste, riding experience and pricepoint.
And that's the only worthy review coming out of a comparison as this, as you said this bikes are catering for different targets but magazines and their minions cater only for the most expensive ones. One other big point is V Strom is still manufactured in Japan, so not a cheap chinese built, this might be one of the most important aspects if someone wants to keep the bike for many years. Cheers
I has 3 Vstroms, last was in 2019 the 1000 XT with Akrapovic. Then in 2022 I bought a 2022 KTM 1290 SAS and rode it for 7.000 km. Then in September it got stolen. Last week I ordered the new 2023 Vstrom 1050 (regular,no more XT or DE). I loved the Suzuki engine before and the 2023 model finnaly has a TFT and quickshifter, so I would say now (just no on TFT navigation or adjustable suspension) it has more or less everything. Sure KTM was a monster, really quick and fun to ride, the suspension was not great (pretty bouncy on bad roads), but Suzuki has that Vtwin sound, and with Akra it is gona be perfect I think.
2 screens is for navigation: when you have apple carplay navigation on the top screen you do not have speed and gear, that is when you will use second lower screen.
I’m 5’8 so I’d opt for the Vstrom especially with the 19 “ front wheel and the larger screen. The complexity of Honda’s information system would drive me nuts. It has to be intuitive. I much prefer the lower, more comfortable seat on the Suzuki.
Both have exactly the same seat height 850mm, adjustable to 870mm. The wheel size doesn’t matter. I’ve sat on both, they feel the similar. The Africa twin a touch wider at the tank- I actually own a 1050XT.
I would give the V-Strom an extra half point for having a better front mudguard for the purpose of the bike. They are not serious offroaders and the lower rear of that front guard will keep more splash off the engine. I am torn on opinion of fly by wire accelerator. I prefer a cable because if the electronics dies and the cable breaks you could rig something up with the cable if you really had to; but not with the fly by wire. However with fly by wire you can have a real cruise control which I do not remember hearing mentioned if either had cruise control. Good honest review. Thanks.
hi, even tho your post is at this point almost a year old- maybe it´s of help for the next person: they talk about the cruise control of the vstrom at around 18:00
There is a lot to like about the Suzuki. It's a little plasticky in places and fixture and fittings could be better but from the price point of view its a winner!!!! (But I do like the A-Twin).
I was surprised to find the Africa Twin cheaper than the Suzuki. I agree the fit and finish is better on the Honda, although I do like the retro styling on the Suzuki.
Both bikes finish so close! I don’t think I could go wrong with either one of these, which just reinforces the fact that there are so many good bikes to choose from these days.
👍 Great review with top quality editing Good to see the Suzuki come out on top and with BMW reliability issues and their latest smash cam technology I would say that the V Strom is a better bike that a GS.
@@zedcharlie Well that seals it then, the entire 1250 engine engineering platform is shite because 'you know of 2 GS's......" and how many of these engines are in service and will go into service. Just crazy. I have owned two BMW bikes that were absolutely faultless... I'm not claiming however that issues don't crop up. Perspective people.
Love the 'smash cam' comment. Sorry but the technology your trashing is brilliant... subjectively. Im not a BMW fan in particular BTW. Call it as it is. At least BMW try and make investment into new tech and ideas, like Honda is atm. Suzuki is stone age by comparison, it's churning out old tech with a bit of sparkle on top and not really trying that hard. Doesn't make it a bad bike by any means, especially considering the price. In fact I would definitely consider one - looks good in red imo. The GS is a better more accomplished bike though, in every area that counts... you have to pay for it though.
@@dadmadforgot4050 I like bm.s! Just think they are getting more complicated. 1200 I rode was bloody quick. To be honest I thought the 1100 gs was quick enough. But that was a good upgrade from the old r100gs. I have to admit I.ve never ridden the 1250 though. These days I just try to stay legal. And I Don.t take a pillion so the bike is more than I personally need. 👍
The Strom is more honest for what most of these bikes are actually used for which is a comfortable tarmac tourer ! The one thing that does bug me is high level exhaust that compromise your luggage .....Oh it's for river crossings ? When did you ever see most people do that apart from on journo reviews ? Nice review guys 👍
Really liking that yellow colour scheme on the v strom. I looks like a nod to the RM scramblers in the 90's which was something we wanted growing up in the countryside. Now I want the vstrom!
Real great comparison video guys. Of all the adventure bikes I have to say I like the looks of the V-Strom best. If I was in the market for something like that it would be the V-Strom in the stunning red and white scheme.
Great review format. Also more real world and down to earth than a lot of other reviews that don’t seem to take into account the V-Strom is thousands of £ cheaper. I’ve got a 2019 DL1000 and just did 750 miles touring Wales over 4 days. No aches or pains and was great fun. Keep up the good work 👍
Great Review, as said before, if people are looking at getting Adventure Bike, it's very rare the The V-Strom gets a mention....but im seriously thinking about getting a v strom and ive watched many videos lately, and 99% of the Reviews have been very positive to the strom....seems a Great , reliable Machine....👍👍👍🏍🏍🏍🏍
Love the new format. If money was no object I’d take the Africa Twin but if I’m spending my own I’d get The VStrom because it’s a lot more affordable. I’d have the ecu flashed and bring the power up a bit.
Love the Africa twin adventure sport. Ultimate touring bike. Comfort. Tech. Huge tank range. Solid engine.i like these chats with your mate even if my opinion varies from yours 😃 hrc colours all the way though. That black one is a bit meh. You can get a deeper oem seat for it too more padding. Bottom screen is for speed display when you are using the top as full screen navigation with CarPlay. Use it all that time. It’s state of the art layout. Surprised how many people are missing this. The Honda system is complicated but after a few days it’s incredibly powerful when you sort it all out.
@Mike Warner I think much of the 'reviewer problem' is the amount of buttons (and Hondas manual is dire to be fair), but if you spend a few days with it and learn how it all works, its even better than the systems ive used on the BMW bikes ive owned. Carplay is fantastic if you have a phone in your pocket or mounted with a quadlock for instance (you can even power them from the USB port or 12V adapter on the adventure). The dual screen configuration seems to throw a lot of people. but as I said, the top screen is for a full screen carplay navigation system with the lower one showing you speed and engine settings etc - this is critical to seeing the speed your are doing and engine settings while travelling (the lower panel is LCD not LED and it refreshes slower so this can sometimes be catching up with the LED panel - only noticeable if you study them both closely while riding and both are active). But you can easily flip back out and in of navigation by pushing down on a top button between the main engine screen and navigation maps on the fly (pushing up on a button gives you access to Siri in your helmet too!). Its a very sophisicated system that seems to be getting a lot of flak because reviewers really just dont put any time at all into trying to learn it. - I mean the battery voltage (and loads of other stuff - trips, average miles, consumption - so much detail its a tech lovers wet dream) can be seen on screen 3 of 4 by pushing the mini buttons left or right - I found that out almost immediately. Electronic suspension shows up on page 4 of these screens and you can set it for single rider, single rider and passenger, and single rider and passenger and luggage. Suspension adjusts automatically (which you can hear) which is very cool. Sounds all very complex, but a few hours sussed all this out. I like chopsie and his friends dialogue, but I do think a little bit of time with some of the bikes they test might help people understand what its all about, surely doing a review means you put in some background effort before presenting it to a lot of people. I mean pushing buttons really isnt rocket science. And they both seem like bright chaps - and im almost 50 myself, so its definitely not an age thing. ive got the adventure sport with electronic suspension, the fatter OEM honda seat, DCT etc, love it. Its not my only bike mind you, ive a S1000RR heavily modified and two Fireblades both heavily modified. I have owned a few GS as well in the past. Christ I just wrote a book!
Surprised that the V-Strom won on points !! I’d want the Honda engine and looks, with the Suzuki comfort, smaller front wheel and all at the Suzuki price !! I bet there’s lots of similar comments (which I didn’t peek at yet)
Fun review and well done. I guess the New white, 2018 Vstrom 1000 in my drive way for only $8,900 with center stand, is the best value of all. Loving it! IMHO, the looks are pretty good too ( for adventure style). AS for the Honda in this review, to not win but cost $3,000 more makes no sense. When one thinks about the majority of time spent riding on the bike to cover miles, not just short jaunts off road... THE SUZUKI is the most under rated bike ever!!
I score these comparison segments with Greg, a 🔟! You both bring your A game with these🎥🎬🔝 Easily some of the best produced content on UA-cam, or even any premium streaming service. The chemistry as synchronicity are second to none. We need more of these segments 🙏🏻
Like your review, how you get the things across and how and why you conclude as you do. Pretty entertaining to watch you guys, and that's for half an hour. Great job. - Suzuki is producing some great motorcycles nobody hardly takes any notice of as it seems or they are talked down. Nice to see the new V-Strom 1050 is getting a good amount of attention. For me it's the perfect adventure sports tourer on the market I haven't had on my list since recently other than Honda's AT. I don't care about competitors being more suitable for heavy duty offroad biking, because who actually does that? But yet it can accomplish offraod duties most people face. Anyway...totally reliable, awesome design, great engine, still reasonable price, no gimmicks just for the sake of it, fantastic chassis and handling, long distance travel possible, no need for a manual to operate its features. A hidden diamond, the real premium.
I bought my 2019 ATAS to replace my old XT600. My wife upgraded her older 2006 650 V-strom with a 2017 model, and she also owns a DR650. I wanted a single bike that I could ride to keep pace with her on either her V-strom or the DR, and the AT fits the bill perfectly. I was disappointed that this review did not include any dirt or off-road riding, which is where the AT truly shines. We did do a 2000 mile road tour through the US desert Southwest with friends (FJ-09, FZR 1300) and my AT had no problem keeping pace, at times, predictably, crawling up the tailpipe of the 650 'strom...but I prefer the view, just the same ;) For me, the bottom line is that to review/compare the AT without including off-road riding is like comparing a Toyota FJ with a Chevy Blazer without getting either one dirty.
"The Honda has everything, 10." Except quick shifter and blipper, electronic suspension and keyless ignition. Not that an adventure bike really needs those things, but not really 10 then? Great film though, you and Greg are the best head to head reviewers on YT!
Interesting video, I thought it would be the AT every time, journalists seem to think so...? But then again your not paid journalists from what I gather. I bought an ex demo 1050 base model 120 miles £8500. After test riding it I thought, can’t pass that up surely... Good bike all round for me.👍🏻
You have to see them in real life tough. In real life the vstrom looks small, low and feels like you've rode that bike before. Africa twin on the other side, seeing it in real life up close,it looks tall, menacing, maybe slightly intimidating and attractive as hell. I test rode both myself and there was significantly more enjoyment from the Africa twin,it's just a different experience. I bought the Africa Twin 2 weeks ago and I gotta say it's the best decision I did so far at my 27 years of age
I once heard the multistrada 1000 as a sportsbike with a different position of riding & I'd say the v strom 1050 is a sports tourer with a different position of riding. I bought the v strom 1050xt & it's a great bike in my opinion, africa twin was good on test ride but v strom is a better road bike.
@@olaeinairoda I haven't taken the Africa twin off road yet because frankly she's still shiny and new but I can tell you it is the better bike on road and on Twisties it's a beauty, you can lean with it quite a lot and you'll feel confident doing so. In my opinion it is a light bike. Now I use this bike in London commuting so I might have developed the skills to tackle traffic but I was faster and more nimble than a guy in a mt-09 the other day filtering and dashing through thick traffic and he was mostly in my rear view mirror and that's
Several years ago. I traded my Vstrom in on an a brand new Africa twin. Worst decision I have EVER made. That AT was theeeeeee worst motorcycle I’ve ever owned, and or ridden. I’ll never own a Honda again.
Great review guys I've just bought one the more basic 1050A it's really nice to ride I prefer the cast wheels to the spokes and don't want all the extra electronic aids for under £10000 pounds it's a bargain better colours too
Great video, I'm not sure which one I'd take home either. Maybe the Suzuki in the red and white colour scheme? £7.99 delivery on a tee shirt? That seems a bit steep.
I dont think i would have ever watched this video all the way through due to the bikes in question as they are not my thing at all, however the new format with Greg and the sit down review really makes a difference as its just good entertainment. Well done Chopsie!
Excellent review. I have a 2021 AT like the one being reviewed 5 months of ownership and experiencing electrical problems and looking to buy a vstrom soon. I had a 2006 vstrom 1000 great bike. Your spot on with the motor in the Honda is so quick off the line and decent top in. Still clueless on the how to of all the electronic components and views on touch screen. Give me simple and reliable anyway.
I'm riding an old r1200gs, the new bike will be a 1050xt. Considering price and performance. The quality is good bmw but the 1050 is good enough for me.
Hey Guys good review, here in Canada you can buy a 2018 vstrom new for 4000 less than a 2020.a no brainer. Suzuki has come to the table after 6 years with no major changes at least increase the fuel consumption. And blue would look nice ,so for now ill keep my 2014. Bikers do need to ride all three both before buying
I use mine practically everyday offroad. But then again I live and ride in Africa and our road network leaves something to be desired. They are tough and they standup to a beating.
I went for comfort. I don't regret it. I mean the Strom goes 140ish. Do you really need it to go "faster"? I'm not drag racing and it more then pulls away from anything I've ever encountered on the road.
I think Suzuki did exactly what you wished for. 2021 engine is upgraded because of emission standards and they did it to the direction of Africa Twin. It revs now more freely. It still is not in the same level, but a step that direction.
Apple car play is amazing on the affy , Waze, google maps, apple maps, Tom Tom (requires subs) Spotify , you tube music , Apple Music ... it’s so easy to use to no more awkward syncing this ain’t talking to that just helmet on connect to bike plug phone in job done.. great video 👍
Really liked this review where you gave time to talk about every tiny details and you had time to discover bikes and give opinion after that. I esepcially liked the way you guys looked at the seating position - I'm having problems with my back, so I'm looking for a bike with more upright position and legs forward and you just hit this area very well in your review. Congrats!
Isn't the Africa twins seat narrow because it's then easier to control when standing up? It does have support for Android now, but you have to go to Honda and update your software.
Great comparison! Really enjoyed it. I think it was very realistic & differentiated the bikes well from each other. The ease of use & value categories are vital & often missed by pro reviews but they really matter for your average rider. The AT is a great & better bike imo but the tech level & price turn me off so I'd go for the V-Strom which is real world decision making for me at least. Although the disappointing bit about the V-Strom is the engine which is fundamentally a gem but emissions have totally strangled it. It needs a can or possibly a full system & a remap to release the character which then gets very expensive. Suzuki should just up the power to TL levels to compensate imo.
Biased here: Have the 2020 ATAS DCT SE - but I can easily understand and accept the outcome. Here in Germany the XT is 1000€ MORE than base manual AT comparing street prices, though. That again makes it much harder to justify the XT.
The Tracer is much more powerful and it's more road oriented. It's also sportier. I've tried one few years ago. It's a toned down mt09. I've recently bought a 2017 AT and it's less nible, but more comfortable, and the possibility to ride off road is a plus in my book. Also the perceived quality is higher on the Honda.
Very nice review, not my type of bikes, but nicely done, and the Greg dude adds a nice side to the videos. Maybe a tour to europe soon. Loved the spanish tour series
Thanks Ricardo, yes we are planning some long day trips this year and unfortunately our Spainish tour this year was cancelled for obvious reasons. Hopefully next year can get a good tour done 👍
I own a 2020 ATASes. What these guys failed to do is actually go on an adventure, lol. Off-road this AT shreds with proper tires fitted. These fella's are basically road riders and it's easy to see. I live in BC Canada where gravel and mountain roads are abundant. I have become used to my controls by now, and actually like the ability to use while riding. I've also driven over 500 km on a tank of fuel on my Adventure Sport. Nice! These guys need to ride in the Rocky Mountains and report back, lol.
Great enjoyable story on both bikes. Loved the video and really enjoyed at the end you chose the bike you liked not on price. We dont all live in the UK and the Suzuki is actually more expensive than the basic Honda where I live. Great reporting guys got a laugh and good information on both bikes. Thanks for a great video.
Great review. I'm so used to see other reviews talking about how there is AT, GS1250 and poo poo everything else. Good to see a down to earth review, practical, talk about value, because in the end, that's what many customers are after. One thing I wish you talked about - not all of us are 6ft. tall, how tall do you have to be to handle it comfortably?
Lambsy I've got an idea for the new rating system: 1) Choose which is the better bike per the category 2) Give it a rating of how much better: +1 Slightly better, +2 Noticeably better, +3 Significantly better This would make it so much easier to tally and streamlined!
Suzuki for me bullet proof and styling looks proper retro. My fave hands down. Would love to see Suzuki build an offroad version geared more to the Paris - Dakar winning bikes used in the mid 80s.
If they get a direct Dr.Big redone but with 1000 ...be also a great seller...for my part ive acquire the 2021 1050XT and its all i will ever need
Actually there is one on the way. V-Strom Desert Express.
This aged well! I've got the 1050DE on order.
Rode the AT today it’s brilliant but long term too much to go wrong. Suzuki hands down. 😍😍😍😍
Just received my brand new Africa Twin standard version. It's an amazing bike. Absolutely love it. Previous bike was 2002 Varadero and the upgrade is huge
I test rode the DL1000, Africa Twin and the KTM 1190 a few years ago. I bought the V-Strom DL1000a. Couldn’t be happier.

Hi. What do you suggest for pillion use? Comfort as no.1 factor? ..and HP? Does (for example) Yamaha Tracer have enough power for two?
Can you compare r1250gs and suzuki
@Protector K9
Both good, out two I'd choose the strom as half the price.
Plus for what I have experienced, lot more reliable.
I think the AT is a great looking bike in that black colour ... 👌🏻

Cheers
50cc🙄
I have 5'11'' after trying both at the dealer, XT more comfortable for me
Both have exactly the same seat height 850mm, adjustable to 870mm. The wheel size doesn’t matter. I’ve sat on both, they feel the similar. The Africa twin a touch wider at the tank- I actually own a 1050XT.
You choose a 19” front if your doing more road. 21” if your doing more off road.
You guys are part of Mensa to me
Thanks Rutger hehe 👍
The point 0,5 on a scale of 10 just nail the NASA entry 🤣
Yes agreed Neil 100% 👍
I was surprised to find the Africa Twin cheaper than the Suzuki. I agree the fit and finish is better on the Honda, although I do like the retro styling on the Suzuki.
Both bikes finish so close! I don’t think I could go wrong with either one of these, which just reinforces the fact that there are so many good bikes to choose from these days.
👍 Great review with top quality editing
Good to see the Suzuki come out on top and with BMW reliability issues and their latest smash cam technology I would say that the V Strom is a better bike that a GS.
very funny
@@Nobbi0815 dare to share your opinion?
Thanks Tim 👍
Great review format. Also more real world and down to earth than a lot of other reviews that don’t seem to take into account the V-Strom is thousands of £ cheaper. I’ve got a 2019 DL1000 and just did 750 miles touring Wales over 4 days. No aches or pains and was great fun. Keep up the good work 👍
Thanks David 👍
Couldn't agree more. From an ATAS owner 10k miles in. Faultless
@@theonlyredspecial a good book...lol
Surprised that the V-Strom won on points !! I’d want the Honda engine and looks, with the Suzuki comfort, smaller front wheel and all at the Suzuki price !! I bet there’s lots of similar comments (which I didn’t peek at yet)
Suzuki has better engine..sounds way better and is stronger.
I think a k&n air filter, full exhaust and a ecu flash the vstrom would come alive ????
Thanks Greycup appreciated 👍
Brilliant work gents, thank you.
In the market for a V-Strom at the moment and really appreciated this comparo.
Cheers!
Excellent review guys really loving the format.
That metallic black on the ATAS is amazing. I pick up my new one tomorrow. 🖤
Nice apples-to-oranges comparison. A Versys1000 is an applicable comparison to the the Strom, just as the KTM Super ADV is to the AT.

Test rode one and I fell in love with it. I found it to be so much fun in the twisties I was genuinely surprised. Great bike.
We did do a 2000 mile road tour through the US desert Southwest with friends (FJ-09, FZR 1300) and my AT had no problem keeping pace, at times, predictably, crawling up the tailpipe of the 650 'strom...but I prefer the view, just the same ;)
For me, the bottom line is that to review/compare the AT without including off-road riding is like comparing a Toyota FJ with a Chevy Blazer without getting either one dirty.
"The Honda has everything, 10."
Except quick shifter and blipper, electronic suspension and keyless ignition.
Good bike all round for me.👍🏻
Got my 1050 XT $12,700 out the door! 4,000 miles and very happy!
So the Vstrom is best aventure bike for the street xD
The vstrom for me.. looks much better 😁
@@fs5866 Give a little more details. How is it on the open road ??? In closed parts with turns ??? Off-road due to weight is a problem ???Thanks
I'd pick the honda too, but only because i already have a v-strom
Great review guys I've just bought one the more basic 1050A it's really nice to ride I prefer the cast wheels to the spokes and don't want all the extra electronic aids for under £10000 pounds it's a bargain better colours too
Well done, gentlemen! Really enjoy hearing your take. Looking forward to future installments. 👍
Thanks Stephen that's great to hear 👍👍
a Vstrom 1050XT is coming home this week
Great format guys - The Ant & Dec of motorcycle reviews 😀
Haha thanks Marc 😂
Awesome review--the 650 V-strom is quite cheaper than the 1050 as well. And that was my choice as a shopper and no pillion carrier
Outstanding review. Covered everything. This really helps riders decide on which bike to choose. Good job!
One missing category.... pillion provision... did you try? As anyone else tried?
The Vee-strom has new cam profiles, so not the same engine, as its character is very different from the previous iteration.
Love these comparison reviews and i can't wait for the shootout between the Fireblade and Aprillia.
Great format and video again Chops. Awesome job.🙂👍
Thanks Dean 👍
fair scoring, difficult choice really, Honda is just the RR of motorcycles, but Suzuki got it so right with this one
Just seen brand new 1050 base model vstrom for 8.250 pounds now that's a bargain.also how many people take these bikes off road anyway 10 percent?
I estimated 5% for anything more serious than a basic gravel lane..
I use mine practically everyday offroad. But then again I live and ride in Africa and our road network leaves something to be desired. They are tough and they standup to a beating.
I was thinking the same thing.
Swap the engine and you’ve got the perfect adventure bike.
Great review 👍
I went for comfort. I don't regret it. I mean the Strom goes 140ish. Do you really need it to go "faster"? I'm not drag racing and it more then pulls away from anything I've ever encountered on the road.
Top stuff as always. Keep it up on these comparisons!
HOW ON EARTH DID I MISS THIS VIDEO???? FINALLY ❤❤❤❤
BRILLIANT AS ALLWAYS MR CHOPS!!!
Thanks guys! Saving to favorites.
Not taking the bikes off road is a bit of a half-assed review for an ADV bike.
A very thorough and objective review. Good job gentlemen!
Thanks Lucian 👍
Good honest review. Helps me decide on the vstrom as a 3nd bike to my Tea. Mileage creeping up LoL
I think Suzuki did exactly what you wished for. 2021 engine is upgraded because of emission standards and they did it to the direction of Africa Twin. It revs now more freely. It still is not in the same level, but a step that direction.
Apple car play is amazing on the affy ,
Waze, google maps, apple maps, Tom Tom (requires subs) Spotify , you tube music , Apple Music ... it’s so easy to use to no more awkward syncing this ain’t talking to that just helmet on connect to bike plug phone in job done.. great video 👍
Just ordered my yellow 2021 XC tour and I can't wait.
I think it would be the Suzook for me, the AT looks far to complicated and the 21 inch front wheel gives me the fear! Great video as usual.
Congrats!
Like the Suzuki (always have a slicker shifting transmission) - SUZUKI looks AWESOME!!!!
Nice review, thank you, best regards from Catalonia!
On the AT you can use the screen with car apple play as a sat nav so need the smaller screen to show speed etc
No mention of hill assist on the Vstrom ?
Yes good point!
Thanks Rage Rider appreciated buddy 👍
Biased here: Have the 2020 ATAS DCT SE - but I can easily understand and accept the outcome. Here in Germany the XT is 1000€ MORE than base manual AT comparing street prices, though. That again makes it much harder to justify the XT.
Sponsored by Suzuki! No bias with this review.
Do you know that for a fact? I found it actually very curious that the vstrom wins in this review while most of the others prefer the Africa twin
Great review and very informative.
Maybe another head to head including triumph Tiger rally pro ?
Thanks ✌️
15k! I bought a 2 year old Tracer 900 for 6k. Are these bikes almost 3 times better?
Build quality is better on v strom & far better on africa twin, bought my 1050xt for £10300 brand new otr so some good deals to be had.
Can't compare the price of a used motorcycle vs a brand new one... How much is a brand new Tracer 900 ?
@@FelixCarrasquel new old stock are around £8000, some pretty good deals out there but they can look tatty very quickly
Have you had a go on the new Tracer 9 GT to compare to these. ?
Very good job guys! And very hard choice... but I love it! Just go ahead 👍
V strom looks hark back to the Dr Big …. Looks pretty good 👍🏻 on Ability, the Honda as an Adventure bike , Suzuki more a tourer
9 for comfort on a seat that he can only sit on for 20 mins....... rigged this test much....
It’s only the seat he doesn’t like 😂
The seat is a very, very individual thing.
How did you guys find the vstrom windscreen? Buffeting/noise? Thats plagued vstroms for years and years.....
Fantastic format for a review. Enthusiastic, entertaining, and fair both ways. What a great time to buy a motorcycle.
Thanks KJ 👍
I like everything about the African Twin the more I research it. It apparently shines off road with that 21" front wheel.
Look for the MAD MICK from Australia, on youtube, and then try to figure out this...this "comparison"
The Honda on looks alone, and even build quality..... Think it wins. And I'm a Suzuki fan
New Zealand
Lovely Japanese garden setting 👍
Suzukis in all guises take some beating. The best engineered bikes by far
Top vid. Enjoyed it. Looking forward to another garage episode!! 😉
Good entertainment chaps, great vid
Lambsy I've got an idea for the new rating system:
1) Choose which is the better bike per the category
2) Give it a rating of how much better: +1 Slightly better, +2 Noticeably better, +3 Significantly better
This would make it so much easier to tally and streamlined!
