- We are quickly approaching #AGFashionWeek but I couldn't help myself - I had be a little extra and do one last video for the event. We can call it a preview ;-) It's my first time making a doll dress AND my first time ever making doll clothes out of a cardboard box! Be sure to watch to till the end, and make sure you participate (as a content creator, viewer, or both) in the first ever American Girl Fashion Week, running from Aril 26-20th.
Thanks so much!!

I didn't have low expectations, I didn't, but my jaw DROPPED! It turned out AMAZING! 👏👏👏👏👏 Well done! 👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you so much 😀 I'm glad it's got you feeling inspired!!
Wow I love it!!! It’s giving AG craft book dresses with an even better execution!! I love how it’s like a bodycon dress too even if that makes it kinda tricky! You’re very creative!!
Thank you so much!!
This is amazing. I never thought "hole punch" when you said "box". That makes so much more sense and it looks so cool. I'm completely impressed!
Thanks, Beth! A few ppl commented that this approach would work well for a mermaid tail and now the gears are already turning thinking about that. I might even have some appropriate scrapbook paper so I wouldn't have to buy anything else.
@@agtakesover I totally thought Mermaid tail, when I saw your sequins.
@@agtakesover Ooh, a mermaid tail would look really cool! And free is even better. :)
Very creative!! I would never have thought of this.
When I first saw the title, I imagined a box with a head hole and arm holes cut out of it (kinda like an old sci fi robot body). This is a completely different animal.
Haha that would've been funny. But I wanted to make something from "trash" that looked as much like a conventional dress as possible.
I thought the same thing!! 😂
Kristi, this dress is amazing! I love your videos so much! I look forward to them every week! I am a crafty person myself so your videos brighten my day! Thank you for sharing such a fun video! Really looking forward to AG fashion week!
Thank you so much! I'm pumped about AGFashionWeek, too. I know some really creative and talented ppl have put together videos and I'm excited to watch them all.
I laughed so hard when you said your wife thought you were making a dress for yourself!!!!!
I'm still puzzled by that one...like, I know she knows I'm a weirdo, but does she think I'm *actually* bonkers??
Brilliant design! Beautiful!❤😊❤
Many many thanks! I'm glad you like it :)
I love this dress. It’s really pretty! Such a fun idea. So happy that you were able to undress and redress. I would love to have seen your process of making this. I do think it would make a cute giveaway. See you at AG Fashion week! 😃🤗👍
Thank you so much - sometimes I just make stuff in the evening while Grace and I watch TV and I like not worrying about lighting and recording and angles. But a couple mentioned this approach would work well for a mermaid tail, so if I decide to do that, I'll make a process video :)
I do understand that. Sometimes it’s nice to enjoy our hobby without always having to “show” what we are doing. That design would work really well for a mermaid tail! 😃
Super cute, I never would have thought of that! Looking forward to your fashion week videos. :)
Thank you! 😊 It was definitely a deviation from my normal doll endeavors :)
So creative! What an incredible idea. So original too!
Thank you! 😊 A few ppl in the comments mentioned this approach being just right to do a mermaid tail, and now my mind's off and running again.
Oh how cute!!!! That is adorable!!!! Love it
You are so kind - it's always nice when what's in my head translates into reality!
I'm obsessed with this and am probably gonna attempt to use this technique to make a dragon costume for my dolls. 🙂
Yeah, someone mentioned in the comments that it would be a good technique for a mermaid tail and my mind is kinda running with that atm.
@@agtakesover Oooh! I didn't even think of that!
What a fun idea! I think it turned out great!
Thanks so much - I love it when reality matches expectation!
So cool.
Thanks, June!!
I love this dress! You are so creative! It looks great on both dolls! I was like the other person and thought you were going to cut arm holes and a hole for the dolls head and then decorate the box like some kind of outfit. 😂😂 This is so much cuter! 😜
Thank you so much!! I might try a mermaid tail with the same approach at some point, and if I do, I'll do a proper tutorial :)
It turned out cool! I like that it looks like scales, I think it would be fun to try making something like this with some kind of holographic material or paper
Yeah, these comments have me planning a mermaid tail already!
I love your imagination!
Aww, thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Such a cool idea and a very cute dress!
Thank you! 😊
I don't feel like you told me about this before doing it, so it was extra cool to be surprised by! This kind of reminds me of what I want them to do for the Met Gala, making the outfits out of trash/recycled materials and making it low budget). I'd love to see more of these honestly but obviously they're time consuming so no pressure. I just got to the reveal and this is crazy!!!! how cool!!!!
I laughed out loud at Grace thinking it was a human size dress
I'm glad it was a cool surprise - A few ppl commented that it would be a good technique for a mermaid tail and my brain immediately went into planning mode lol. So I'll probably do that. Did you see I decided to do the giveaway for this? They could totally do a charity auction with the Met Gala dresses if they did a recycled materials theme.
That was awesome ❤
Thank you so much!!
Such a cute idea, and clever way to reduce waste! Did I miss how you cut such perfect teardrop shapes? This would also be a great method for making a mermaid tail.
Yep, you might have missed it - it's a hole punch from Amazon. Nobody has time or patience for handcutting them all ;-) Also, brb - I gotta go check my scrapbooking paper stash to see if I have mermaid scale colors!!!!!
@@agtakesover oh nooooo lol, I don’t know why I thought the hole punch was to make sewing holes. That doesn’t even make sense now that I think about it. Okay, brilliant idea
@@DisBlaine well, ther tear drop shaped punch made the "sequins" and a tiny specular punch made a hole in each scale so I could sew them, so you weren't entirely wrong. If i do a mermaid outfit, I'll make a process video.
This is SO COOL. It looks even better in a video, rather than a photo, so you can see all the details and the different ways the light interacts with it. I am so impressed by your ability to have an idea and then figure out how to execute it. I think it's a cool giveaway, but hearing how it was put together, I can see that it could be complicated. But it's just so fun; if you don't do a giveaway with it, you should definitely use it periodically as part of your collection, just to showcase your skill and imagination.
(Also, you should just to CHALLENGE ACCEPTED to Grace's mistaken thought about doing a human sized version... just saying. 😉)
Bahahahahahaha I will definitely NOT be making one for myself. But I'm flattered you think there's a chance I could pull it off ;) I think I'll make a post here and over on IG to announce a giveaway and if there is interest, then I'm cool with someone else having it. If there isn't, I have a dress form I got off Amazon and I supposed I could display it on that in a room (like if I did a sewing room in the Room of Requirement downstairs).
Neat idea! I definitely didn't put two and two together at first either, I was like "did she get it wet to form it to the doll's body?" But it looks great! Kind of a scale pattern. I'm bummed that I'm way too busy to participate in AG fashion week this year. Oh well!
Aw, that stinks that you're too busy to participate. You could still create a community post or IG post to spread the word and watch as many #AGFashionWeek videos as you can - that'll help make it successful :)
So cute you need to find a way to put some kind of a clear seal so it stays together like mod poge or something to keep it for a while
If it were sewn onto a shift dress in a non-stretchy fabric, that would work. But since it's a sewn on a compression sock, it needs to be able to pull apart enough to stretch and make it over the doll's bum.
@@agtakesover using a sock that's a great idea I remember one of the first videos I watched on AGtube was a sock dress or shirt how to video.
An AG box dress for yourself 😂 Bahahaha
Can you even imagine?!
That looks really good, maybe a skirt next? 🤔
I'm thinking mermaid tail after reading a few of the comments :)
@@agtakesover Nice! 👍🏽
TOTALLY AWESOME idea. Is the first doll, TM25 ? Is the second doll, TM83?
Thank you so much! First doll is indeed TM25. Second one is TM116 with a Zazou wig.
@@agtakesover Thank you. I have 2, TM25(Isabella ,and Lauren (from the band Cimorelli/ UA-cam [originally 6 sisters ,the youngest, Dani left. I have 6 dolls to be each sister]).
Hey I'm missing AG fashion week but my mom and I are meeting a lady who has a lot of old AG Clothes,a desk and coconut and licorice I'm going to be meeting her at McDonalds Tomorrow I'm super excited cause she has a pleasant company bathing suit
Wish me luck. I'm in a very small town and Theirs never any body sells AG stuff
That sounds awesome - good luck!
@@agtakesover thanks I've never met up with a seller to buy doll stuff before do you have any tips? Besides having mom go with me, going to meet in a public place, and looking at the items and decided what I want before giving the Money to the lady and shaking her hand and saying thank you and make it a done deal? Is their any other tips that I'm missing,?
For some reason I just saw this. I'd make sure it's a non-smoking household. And find out what forms of payment they accept. If you're buying specific items and won't be going into their home, then you don't need to ask about pets, but if you were ever going into someone's home (not alone!) and you have allergies or fears of certain animals, then you could ask about that.
Maybe you ARE a dress designer.
Maybe. Or I lucked out. We'll find out if/when I decide to try another dress idea ;)
