  • Ezequiel Paraguassu may have had the Ezekiel choke named after him, but the history goes a bit further. Hope you enjoy!

Sode guruma jime! Even though most bjj techniques are judo newaza techniques, and some could even say bjj is just kozen judo…. the flow, the roll is unique to bjj.. allowing time to navigate from one technique to another like a chess game is what defines bjj.. and what makes it superior when compare with all the sisters grappling arts.. including judo..

Sode Gruma Jime = Sleeve and Wheel Construction as you mention in the Video, IMO the Judo names makes it easier for a Beginner to remember the technique as Sleeve and Wheel tells one exactly what the technique is

funny that I was just looking in my BJJ book and I found this technique, then I opened UA-cam and this video popped up immediately 🤔

basics and concepts, Joint Lock = Figure out what way the joint is supposed to go then make it go in the opposite direction and what will get you the most breaking power , Choke - a - How can I cut off the blood to the Carotid Artery (blood Choke) b - how can I cut off the air (air choke) .... learn these concepts then techniques can come from anywhere (ie the Buggy Choke Craze) ... in the late 1800s I believe Kano Jiroro just went through all possible combinations of how, why and what caused what/xyz to happen and just systemized every aspect of technique, what it did and how to do it OSS

also one must realize what Black Belt means to understand why a typical Judo Black Belt is earned for example in 5 years vs BJJ that could take 10-12 years, in Judo every Belt has a set of techniques to learn, basically can you do it drilling vs a non resistant opponent or in a roll/Randori vs a 70% resistant opponent, once you learn that set of techniques, Takedoewns, Pinning Techniques (Control Techniques in BJJ) , Subs and Sub defenses (more Judo schools now include full Newaza or at least ones that teach complete Judo) then you move to the next belt, its very systemized , then once one knows all these "Basic" techniques they are awarded Black Belt/Shodan and its after Black Belt (a New Beginner, if one is still training after they the rank) is when one theoretically is to start to put it all together (ie chain techniques together) whereas BJJ in many schools does not have such a structure (for example all belts are typically all leaning the same thing) and belt rank seems to be much more subjective and is more about how one does in a actual roll , for example one can dominate with submitting many different belts with different variations of a Kimura and rise in rank based on their domination and not based on how many techniques they know and thus may be able to dominate the Judo Back Belt (lets say they received earned black after 5 years) even through they are only a Purple Belt (lets say 7 years and close to Brown) as an Example JMO

I love the Ezekiel but many people talk shit on me for it. Is it considered a cheap trick? I’ve hit it even inside peoples guard and even some higher belts but they say it’s shit jiu Jitsu 😢.
