That's a new telescope I've never heard of! Euclid, welcome to the family, welcome to the eyes in the sky. I hope to hear more from you and see those great pictures... I love everything I hear about the Webb telescope and the Hubble telescope.... and now we can learn so much more about the universe.... I think in the last year I already learned more about space than in the previous 30 years...
I’m 76 years old and still tend to see the universe the same way as I did when I was 14. As time goes on we are able to see parts off the universe larger than previously seen and smaller than previously seen. I don’t think we are anywhere near the end of that process and would not be surprised if those tracks would eventually touched each other.

That would be a heck of a resolution. Equivalent of resolving something like the width of a human hair in the Alpha Centauri system.

I'm a dumb hillbilly and can't do math above 3 digits.
But when he said 500 meters at 10 billion light years, I flinched real bad.
I knew that could not be right, but also knew that I could not prove it wrong with my 3rd grade math skill set.
But you know, they say, "Believe the science."
I must admit though, I am having a hard time gettin' my wife and kids to eat bugs.
That's right. The tangent of 0.1 arc seconds is 4.85 E10-7 radians. Times 10 billion is 4850 light years. That's way too big to see individual stars, but could see clusters of them or nebulas.
Given that only 1 significant figure was used in the 0.1 arcade spec, we round up to 5,000 light years.
ps, Given that the Rayleigh Criterion of Resolution is [(1.22 * Wavelength) / D], we can calculate the Diameter (D) of the optics that gives us that 0.1 arcsec of resolution, for any wavelength used in the detector.

Basically the calculations for 'Dark Matter' qty in the Observable Universe, still couldn't account for the apparent expansion of the Universe & the fact that things speed up the further away from us they are, Scientist have thus coined the term "Dark Energy" to try explain this elusive 'gap' of information in our current modelling & understanding to help model an explanation for the observed & apparent expansion of the Universe. Its not really anything yet.., but just a term for Unknown additional forces to try & explain the expansion rate Data. Euclid therefore might assist in trying to identfy the unknown influencer on our Cosmos, because of its ability to Map large chunks of sky in "wide & deep field" high(er) resolution imagery...
Dark matter is not the same as dark energy. Dark energy is a name for the expansion of space, the phenomenon that distant galaxies are accelerating away from each other. Dark matter is something else. There isn't enough gravity from the visible matter that we can see, to explain how large structures like galaxies and clusters are held together in the way we see them. Maybe that's because we don't understand gravity well enough, or maybe it's some undiscovered new particle that's very hard to detect. That particle would be dark matter. Nobody really knows yet.

Wonderful that people are exploring such crucial info. As these space telescopes become more detailed in what they can show us, I hope new discoveries can be made.
For most of the last century, there has been widespread resistance to consideration of any force governing Celestial interactions besides Gravitation resulting from concentrations of MASS.
This ignores, or at least drastically discounts, the influence of Electromagnetic forces.
More recently we are seeing a growing trend to consider the gaseous filaments and webs that had long been regarded or treated as INERT, as instead representing gigantic conduits of electrical current flow or reservoirs of electric charge / potential. This concept is advanced to account for the attractions that cannot otherwise be explained by gravitational interactions.
I would love to see these concepts discussed further.
All these theories are up reconsideration as new data is acquired. The JWSG brings new insight each day. It’s an exciting and challenging time in science.
The engineering feats performed in the design, manufacture, and deployment of Euclid and Webb Telescopes serve as a testament to human ingenuity, creativity, and resource-fullness. Through these we are able to actually touch (the photons) of objects at some of the farthest reaches of the universe in space and in time. We should never doubt human resourcefulness.
wishing you had covered gaia's specs as well. since gaia is at the L2 lagrange point with Euclid and jwst orbiting around it (only because differing types of orbits are used for Euclid and James Web Space Telescope to maintain position at L2 than Gaia). perhaps a video covering all 3

@@peterdarr383 Negative. The Roadster is not in any kind of Earth orbit, however its current orbit does intersect Earth's. If it remains on this orbit for a long time, it will periodically intersect and come into close contact with L2 as well as Earth on an interval of centuries or millennia.

I'm about to watch the video about Euclid and Webb together, but I'm surprised this wasn't publicized like Webb was. From this video Euclid seems pretty on par with Webb.

Awesome images, this Euclid Space Telescope is definitely going to provide even more exciting data! A greater accuracy of red-shift measurements will be really useful. You're right, these maths are wrong: 0.1 second of arc is 500m at 1 million km (and 1 million km is 3.3 light seconds). This is good but not exceptional. The strength of Euclid is its ability to measure the red shift of a large number of galaxies in a short time.
I, too, was bothered by that.
If 500m at 10 billion light years was true, then they could put it in earth orbit, aim it at me, and read the base-pair sequences of my DNA.
07:27 I assume whoever wrote this prefers freedom units over the metric system, but 0.1 arcsec at 10 billion lightyears is 5000 lightyears, not 500 meters.

If any device could see a resolution of 500 meters @ 10 billion light years, then we would be able to see in exquisite detail, and would be mapping, all the planets within our galaxy and beyond. This is nonsense. The .1 arc seconds 500 meter resolution is good to maybe a million kilometers.

I agree that it can't be right. I believe that the resolution at 10 billion light-years is about 4,850 light-years which is amazing.
@@EricBier sounds about right. 0.1 arcseconds * 10 billion light years = 4848.14 light years. The Milky Way is about 70,000 light years in diameter, for reference.

The observable universe is roughly 40 billion x 90 billion light years. The age of the universe is 13.7 billion light years. Given that it takes a year for light to travel a light-year, when are we going to create a telescope that can see the beginning of the universe?
I like how the black and white image is somehow showing us the blue to red light wavelengths.
As for dark matter, a little girl goes to bed on Christmas Eve and there are no presents under the tree. When she wakes up in the morning, there are presents where there were none before, which is proof of the existence of Santa Claus. Same thing for dark matter.

So interesting, I really wish that the real results will be distributed to everyone interested even if they don"t please some.
The dark regions of space or outside the string lines of Galaxies is where it gets very interesting to wonder what is out there in the dark. Anything is possible of planets within that region or even creatures of mysterious origins and make up. But the first thing to consider is are we able to travel same physics as in the string fulfillment of Galaxies.?. I often wonder once in that region , can we travel super fast with little effort of locomotion, or will we be just sitting there not able to move. Even the gravity question of possibility we be crushed , much like the deep dark regions of our oceans .

I’m human and humans are inquisitive and we need to learn everything about everything, and I think one day in the near future we’ll learn more about “Dark Matter” and other mysteries of the universe, and why not. I won’t be around for that but what an amazing time to be alive. It’s in our nature to ask and answer questions of our existence and what lies ahead for us all, it’s inevitable but we will need to come together as a species in order to survive and solve issues like scientific goals and theories of our universe. 🖖🌎🚀

I keep hoping that advances such as these will help me decide if my impression of the edge of the universe is correct. I envision a huge outer "sphere" of anti-matter and quasi-matter moving inward while drawing down the center like a tsunami draws down water on a beach. Only time and more data will tell.
What am I missing in the search for dark matter? It seems to me that the discussion might be closed by the following scenario: Construct a hollow sphere from two hemispheres (simplifying the launching of said sphere) which can be assembled in space.. Attach this sphere to another very small sphere, made in as similar way, and connected to the large sphere by an extended tube. From the small hemisphere attach another tube and a flat plate with the same projected area as the large sphere. Adjust the mass of both assemblies such that they match exactly. Set off a charge in the small dual hemispheres and monitor the trajectory of the two sections. F=MA

What got me is that NASA was able to Overlay the X-ray telescope the infrared telescope the all of the Spectre collected by these telescopes they were able to Overlay them and this, and gather the Spectre, with such Precision that I could see why this camera system is just the complete modification, it is precisely done I am proud of all the scientists who have not met yet that worked on this project

Pearlman YeC SPIRAL 'GRIP' hypothesis on galactic rotation, also does not require Dark Matter and 'Pearlman vs Hubble' no requirement for Dark Energy and NO need to revise basic physics. The entire universe approximates the visible universe, that attained gravitational bound equilibrium early in history. Normal matter over 99% of all matter, 99% of the universe we see from light that departed when the universe transitioned from hyper-dense to mature size and density.

I look forward to the day that the NIR camera is focused on a single point in the void for many days to reveal the myriad of previously unseen galaxies that, by all accounts, should not exist in such an early stage of the evolution of the universe, and set straight the many errors in the assumptions of the LCDM.

I love how some scientists are so quick to dismiss the notion of faith, but then jump on board with theories like dark matter and steadfastly defend something for which there has been little evidence.
There is more likelihood of dark matter out in space than there will ever be of a god existing only in mans imagination. To put it simply gods have always only ever been made by man to control man. And in Christianity's case threaten man with eternal hell and ostracization from the family group!
There are alternative theories but those are roundly dismissed because the high priests of physics tell us to believe in de/dm. I saw a physicist once say (it was translated and I am going from memory): 'We'll do the experiment and if we don't see anything, we'll know we've discovered dark matter.'
This all sounds very religion-like!
Dark matter is not a theory but an hypothesis. To be a theory you need to have valid proof. We have none fore dark matter. Using the same logic god is only an hypothesis as we have no prof he/she/it/they exists.

7:27 - Separate objects that are only 500 meters apart at a distance of 10 billion light years?!?!? That kind of resolution is, and always will be, absolutely impossible. An honest mistake of course, anyone can miscalculate, but since it was off by a factor of around 90 quadrillion I'm surprised you didn't get some gut feeling that your figure was way off. Oh well, live and learn. Very interesting video otherwise.

A well designed piece of gear. Not a crazy budget and time overrun like the ridiculous Webb project, which was one of the worst contracting disasters in history.
Its puzzling that JWST was designed to take the noise out of the objects were are trying to look at, but, NASA Space News adds noise into their presentations..we need a filter to take it out
Amazing technology and awesome achievement!
So far, it appears that the universe started as something tiny and started to expand to what we can observe and detect today. It also appears that anything we can observe or detect is made from extremely tiny particles which interact and combine with each other based on some fundamental predetermined rules. We have identified quit a few of these extremely tiny particles and have identified quit a few of the rules these particles follow to interact and combine. Perhaps most of the particles and most of the rules but there probably are more.
We also discovered that anything that we can observe or detect is made from the same basic stuff and we call this stuff energy. We know this because we have figured out how to calculate a value or quantity of energy for anything that we can observe or detect. I think we can say the fabric of the universe is space time but we can also say that the fabric of the universe is energy time because we now know that space is not empty and is also some type of energy and we can calculate or at least estimate how much energy is in a given volume of space.
It also appears that after the universe started to expand, no more energy was added or removed as it continued to expand. We do not know what the rules were that determined the amount of energy in the universe nor what caused the energy in the universe to start expanding. The rules for how energy expands, transforms, interacts and combines cause energy to cycle from concentrated to diluted states. Although the cycles can be repeated almost an infinite number of times, we think there will be a time when they stop because as the cycles keep repeating, the total amount of energy in the universe keeps becoming more and more diluted. We call this rule entropy. We also think that at some point in time, all the energy will become so diluted that it will not be able to cycle back into more concentrated states and we think this is when the universe ends.
We still do not know the rules before the universe started to expand and we still do not know the rules after the universe ends and there are probably still many rules that we do not know about that causes the energy in the universe to cycle back and forth from concentrated to diluted states as it continues to expand.
