Mindful spooncarving at the Danish coastline

Mindful spooncarving in a lovely Danish cottage at the coast. Hygge and slow living!
What's better than taking a few days off with your lovely wife and kids, to a beautifully located cottage at the sea?
Yeah, you're absolutely right.. Green woodworking, slöjd, carving a spoon at that place.
I brought my carving kit and a few roughed out spoon in maple. Carved this while the kids were out playing in the garden. Inside, in front of the woodstove.. It was really cold outside so this was just the best mindful thing I could think of. Honey for the soul!
The last months have been tough, because of lockdowns and all that. So we took a few days at the coast, at Sjællands Odde. Try google it and see for yourself..

Hehe, Carving outside in the cold is much more dangerous. And it was just too cold, so I decided to carve inside.
And I’ve carved like 95% of all 1000 spoons inside, in my living room.. a lot in front of Netflix ; )

What is your favourite wood for carving spoons?

Where I live, in Denmark, maple (Acer Pseudoplatanus) is my favourite for sure.
Birch is like a 7 (1-14) which I see as a standard, not bad but not super good either. Cherry is amazing but also tends to crack in the heartwood. European walnut is by far the most awesome, beautiful and dense wood I’ve carved.. beautiful! But tough.
