- Have you ever seen the American aisle in a British Supermarket? As two Americans living abroad in London...it was definitely a sight to see LOL. Do you think this aisle did American food & snacks justice?

I would love to see a video with a group of African Americans speaking on our experiences in the UK. I feel like there's a nice sized community of us here with all kinds of unique perspectives. Just a thought 🤗 Great content as always 💕
She has one, it’s a while back though
Erica is right but I’m definitely down to make an updated one!! 😊
When I was a students there so few Americans, a friend of mine said the british jump on home when they knew he was American
@@PaigeMariah have you met any Latino (not Spaniards lol) but Latino people from the US or Latin America out there? I know they don't really have a Latin presence in the UK but I've been thinking about applying for some jobs out there and moving my family with me but I feel like I'd miss my culture lol I'm Mexican from Oakland, CA and my wife is Black from New York, we got a son with another on the way so I have to wonder how we would all fit in, idk if we ready for the culture shock lol but I think it could be a cool experience from watching your videos
Say swear? I lived in LDN my whole life and never met one. I’m only 21 but I’ve only met like 2 Americans living in the UK (both white) would love to meet my brother and sisters from across the pond
That was so fun Paige. I totally appreciate London's food regulations, they don't play with the artificial flavors and chemicals. Davelle seems so sweet, smart, and well educated! Come on!! What's up with that Paige? 😜😂😂
LOL just a friend but he’s great
Paige you are leaving it late, and o am an antique
Paige, loved this video! The overall vibe I got from the American aisle/section was unhealthy and sugar everything. You are right the chocolate there is soooo much better, it’s richer and smoother 😋. Can’t wait to see more videos like this love from Atl❤️
Thanks so much for watching!! 😊
The British government will not allow any bad chemicals from American food here, so what they sell in sansburys or any other store will be safe for British consumption.
Got it! Thanks for clarifying 😊
Your welcome 😁
Please try and do the same thing when you come home to Chicago, I’d love to see you check out the British aisles in America.
In Long Island, NY I think the same thing…who picked the stuff for this aisle and why is it so expensive!!!
I’ve never seen a British aisle in the US!
They have British aisles?
@@JazzyJazzy819 it’s usually in your “international section”. Here in North Carolina we have them in Harris Teeter, Publix and Walmart. The others mostly cater to Hispanic.
@@PaigeMariah I’ve seen it in wegmans it’s pretty small though
@@PaigeMariah oh yes!!! In Long Island NY Waldbaums when they were around used to have them and I go to the on in Keyfoods here and they have a British aisle, they have a lot of stuff but it’s double the price.
Haven’t checked your vids in a while so I did a massive binge over the last time I was here. Great videos & content over the past few months. Realty shows your progression and keep doing what you’re doing.
Great video & great content
Stay safe & healthy
Aww welcome back Mel!! Thanks so much 😊
You need to do a Collab with Joel and Lia. Teach them about American things!!!
I’d love to! Please go tell them 😊
I would love to see a taste test between American candy sold in the States and the American candy sold there. I know the nutrition comparison and ingredients are probably way different. We add 10+ ingredients for 1 item vs there it’s maybe 3. And I can’t even pronounce half of the ingredients listed most of the time. It’s a shame. SUPPOSED to start a vegetarian/pescatarian diet tomorrow so we’ll see.
In some cities in the US where there's a large British presence, there's a a British aisle in the big grocery stores.
Rural King has the lucky charms marshmallows in a bag(actually the rural king brand) and have hotdogs in a jar. Rural King is headquartered in Mattoon Illinois
I like the energy he came with I enjoyed this vlog! The hot dogs in the jar thoughhhhh lol I can’t’ lol 🤢
So happy you enjoyed!!
Davelle: "this is disrespectful" was hilarious 😂😂😂😂
Love the Hershey cereal, it is delicious.
Love you both on this video, Davelle was epic at the picnic and is epic on here 💜💜💜💜
☺️☺️💗💗
Good video Paige. I follow Joel & Lia. I love their content too. Sometimes I find myself screaming at my laptop..."that's only a Caucasian American thing" but, I suppose that's what most foreigner's think America really is anyway. I appreciate your point of view . I look forward to seeing Davelle in some of your upcoming videos.
Thank you for watching!!
I do feel that most of “American” items are throughout the entire stores in the us, not so much a whole isle. I do feel they make a section available to “world foods”, especially in Asda. I do agree the chocolate is way better and let’s not forget about the cheese it’s so good in the us.
Yes world food sections are in Asda and Tesco .... i believe the bigger the store the selection varies ... I have been in a Tesco which is classed as a superstore and they had a very large American section but the one near me doesn't... I also like buying from the Jamaican food section
Unfortunately many of the American snacks are banned here in the UK due to our annoying rules with sugar/salt content and artificial flavourings 😒. You guys definitely win when it comes to food!
I appreciate those rules though lol!
I do use Libby's pumpkin in a can for pies. But hot dogs in a jar blech
It looks like the section in stores for black hair care
“This isn’t American. It isn’t pop top. We too lazy to get the can opener out.”
This was fun 😄
When you got to the aisle, I was hoping you found where the Texas Pete hot sauce or Jiffy cornbread mix was 😭
Paige even British born Africans and Caribbeans have to get used to having a couple shelves of items like our meat seasoning , it's either Supermarkets or the halal butchers to get African and Caribbean products , and the halal butchers is the preferred option because you get your meat and vegetables yams and products you need under one place. Put it this way you don't see non black or brown people in a halal butchers. And if you do there in there to buy something for there black or brown friend , or significant other.
He said the hot dogs were built different. Low-key HILARIOUS 😂
🤣🤣🤣
They just started having that Oreo brownie over here in NYC.. trash 🗑… hot dogs in a Jar took me out! Lol…
Pumpkin in a can 😩
🤣🤣🤣🤣. Thank you for showing this on your channel. Lol
So happy you enjoyed! 😊
Paige I think you need to go to Costco in the UK to really get more variety of us products , but the place is huge. But you would need to have a Costco card or know someone with one. 💯❤️👊🏾
Yes, root beer is an American thing, generally. Although they do serve it at McD', or at least did, back in the 80's. Also, you should see a British section in an American grocery store, it's just as laughable if they even bother to have it. Oh, one more thing Paige, people keep taking you to fancy vintage clothing shops, they are super marked-up, hence why I think you have an impression of all 2nd hand stores in the UK being pricy. You need to hit up stores like Sue Ryder, Oxfam, Cancer Research, and Age UK etc. That's where you'll find all your bargain clothing.. That's where Brits take their used good to sell. You won't find those on Oxford Street, you'll need to go to a regular town for that. Ask a British friend, they'll take you, maybe they're too ashamed lol.
Hey! I’ve visited a few of those charity shops as well but they’re still a lot more expensive than what I’m used to at home! I think I’m just spoiled by US thrifting lol
I think what they were trying to get at with the hotdogs in a jar is maybe trying to emulate Vienna sausages. For anyone who doesn't know what Vienna sausages are , they're little cocktail sausages that are in pull top cans and can be eaten with saltine crackers or any kind of crackers. After just doing a little goggling , Hershey cereal is sold here in the states at Walmart and on Amazon and maybe other supermarkets. Poptarts at least at my neighborhood big box store Supermarket in So Cal pre 'Rona were $2.99 a box for a box of 8 poptarts. I did get a glimpse of the Belvita Orange Cranberry breakfast biscuits behind Davelle. They are so good , especially dipped in tea. When I worked at a prescholl, we'd give them as snacks to the kids. Gatorade is so American, It would've been cool to see if they had Tortilla Chips , salsa and guacamole but all in all with the exception of the hotdogs in a jar. that American aisle was about a 60/40 representation of American snack food.
We have shandy in England it’s in the soft drinks aisle.
Yassss to the Ph D brother!👏🏿🥳🎊🎉🥂 Never, ever have I seen or eaten hotdogs in a jar.🤮 I'm from the Northeast (Jersey). Most of the stuff in that aisle I do not eat, drink or like, including rootbeer soda(don't revoke my Black card 🤣🤣🤣). Hersheys's cereal never seen that and I would categorize it as Team Too Much .🤢 Enjoyed meeting your friend. He seems real chill and down to earth.
Awww thanks so much for watching as always!! 😊
Paige love your content as always . They do have British section in US also . It is great to have a slice of home when you are living away .
Nice! Thanks for watching 😊
I have seen the kisses cereal and root beer is definitely American. I assume the pumpkin in the can is an only at Thanksgiving thing.
What is considered milk chocolate in the US is defined differently than it is in the UK.
Makes sense!
Honestly, it's not really an American section unless Slim Jims, a can of sardines and a can of boiled peanuts are on the shelf. Otherwise, when I'm in England I'm shopping locally (I like J20 drinks).
Jar hotdogs are alright, better that tinned ones. Glass wins over a tin/can anyday😄
Now that I’m overseas, I was told chocolate here was so much better then the U.S! I disagree to the fullest! Haha
Really? lol
It’s him saying “Trash, hold on rubbish” lol
😭😭😭 so funny
All of those are sold in American store's. The hot dogs in the jar you see in bar's. A company name Truman's sell jar hotdogs at Walmart.
Interesting!
I’m from southeastern US, and I just used a can of pumpkin purée to make pumpkin muffins.
Makes sense!
So they basically think we eat tons of crap! Lol .. that’s hilarious.. !
The pumpkin in a tin is something we just don’t have in the U.K. at all outside the American aisle.
My local supermarkets don’t sell A&W root beer. But you can get a different brand (tropical sun) of root beer in the African & Caribbean section. It’s not a common drink here because many people don’t like it. In the 80’s and 90’s our mouthwash at the dentist tastes like root beer and it put a lot of people off the flavour.
The American foods still can be sold so long as it has a U.K. sticker nutritional label added. Legally need to label if a food has GMO’s or any of the artificial colours (eg: needs to give a warning it causes hyperactivity in children)
That American section is disrespectful 😭😭 the hot dogs in the jar took me out😂 Btw I’ll be scheduling a “Pick Paige’s Brain” session soon!
Yayyy speak to you soon!! 😊
The hotdogs in the jar are actually pretty good. I bought it one day just to try and I’ve been buying them ever since lol.
Wow lol! First person I’ve heard purchased them 😆
Thanks For Letting Us Know!! 😁
I was thinking the jar was to preserve the taste. They are here in plastic and therefore wouldn't last long
O-H..... Glad to hear that you are Joel and Lia fan.
Glizzy in a glass 😂
The Oreo brownie is smack 😂
Lol these ones looked stale
What a fun[ny] video LOL! I love your channel. P.S. I love the videos with your and @itstiffaniedavis.
Random question, can you ask Davelle who makes the glasses he’s wearing. I like them.
Hot dogs in a jar...I know we eat some crap in the US, but I'm horrified!!! I'll be having nightmares for years after this. Just say no! LOL - Love, love, love your channel, Paige.
🤣🤣🤣 thank you so much for watching!! 💕
I saw Joel and Lias video as well and nearly barfed when I saw the hot dogs. In what fresh hell is that?
Twinkies had indeed gone away as a product at one point but a company by the name of Flowers Bakery bought the brand from Hostess or whoever and now they are back. Flowers Bakery is based one town over from where I grew up in Georgia and it was kind of a big deal locally when that happened.
Oh wow!! Thanks for this
They have all the good American candy 🍭
Hot dogs in a jar aka frankfurters aren’t they German? 🤣🤣🤣
Lol I think they wanted to help you make American style hot dogs
American in London here. I ain’t gonna lie I bought some of that Bisquick the last time I was at Sainsbury’s because I wanted some pancakes so bad. Still haven’t even opened the box :/
Lol let us know how it is if you ever open it 😆
lol we definitely don't eat hot dogs in a jar in the states. The lucky charms marshmallows are new
My dogs loved hot dogs from jars but i dont know any better.
Love watching your videos, I would suggest you also try and check world food aisles in the supermarkets. Also random places like poundland get stuff from America. We have some more basic pop tarts but they are more mainstream.
Thank you!!
“Trash”, hold on, “rubbish” 😂😂😂
😆😆😆
I went to a UK store years ago and saw hot dogs in the jar and just stared at them, I had never seen such a thing...ever back home...lol! Haven't a clue where in the States you would get something like that and I never want to try it...lol! I also saw someone selling tin hot dogs on the street, something I have never heard of back home either. If we have anything like the jar or tin hot dogs it must be a very, very, very, very, very, very, very small niche market.😳
I got extremely curious and looked up that brand of jar hot dogs and found out it's from Kent, it's not from the US.
As far as chocolate goes I think you just have to eat European and U.S. chocolate differently... Just my opinion. I find that if I want to bite and chew a piece of chocolate I like U.S. chocolate better. If I would like to bite and let the chocolate linger on my tongue and melt I like European chocolate better.
😆😆😆 thanks Renee
Happy Sunday!
Same to you!! 😊
I think Hot Dogs in a jar is fairly new thing. I love them.
😱
Hi Paige you need to try a Tesco extra store. I'm sure they have a way better American section.
The Oreo brownies are so good, anytime I see it in any American section at Tesco or Sainsbury’s, I’ll get one. You gotta try it Paige, don’t knock it until you try it😇
Lol maybe that was just a bad/stale batch 😆
Hot dogs in a jar? Nah, never heard of it? The selection of items are very limited - its more geared toward sweets than anything else. What about meats, veggies, etc? How's traveling in Europe since Brexit? Have you noticed any changes/differences? Thanks for introducing us to your friend Davelle. Tell him good luck with pursuing his Ph.D. This video was quite informative as always because I'm always learning something new when you post. Until next time, have an awesome week.
Thanks so much Annie! I think this section is just focused on junk food and snacks lol. Traveling has been pretty normal and I haven’t noticed much change other than Covid protocols
Try ASDA, especially as it was bought by Walmart about 20 years ago.
ASDA is the main supermarket I shop at here! 😊
Go to tesco's there's a American section in tesco's
I’ve seen that one too! Maybe we’ll do a part 2 lol
since you americans have not only walked into one of our british supermarkets and found the american aisle, but you also do not seemed that much impressed with whats on offer, back home in america when you go grocery shopping what exactly do you put in your shopping cart.
not that stuff lol
Honey that "American" aisle was just disrespectful? Tfs
P.S. Paige do you foresee yourself getting residency in the UK? I literally almost forgot you are from the states. lol
LOL if only it was that easy! we’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds
The candy looks like dollar tree candy section
LOL
I literally was like Davelle sounds really midwestern lol and come to find out this man is from my cityyyy. We love to see it!
😊😊
Paige the hot dogs in the jar I have never! that's just wrong lol I always enjoy your content.
Thanks for watching!!
I’m curious do you experience ppl talking bad about the US or you since you’re American? I’ve experienced that in Canada and wanted to know if that happens in UK?
Hmm maybe in a joking way but never disrespectfully…at least to my face 😅
@@PaigeMariah thanks! That makes me feel better lol I wanna visit so maybe next year. Love your vlogs and thanks for responding 💕
Gatorade and root beer were invented in the US so that def makes sense
Those hot dogs though 😮 😂. I’m rooting for Chicago some this year because I taught the quarterback.
😆😆
I find the American section in UK supermarkets are very poor! One small bit is not enough and some don't even have a section. It's mostly all sweet stuff and not much variety and to expensive! x
I remember when you could only buy Oreo biscuits when you went to US or in Selfridges for like £5 now there’re everywhere for £1 or less
Wow
Aloha🌺
✔Gatorade
✔A & W Root Beer
✔Beef Jerky
✔Bisquick
✔Sour PaTches
✔Jelly Bellies
😊😊
I hit up Sainsbury's in Tooting whenever I'm in London visiting my family. I miss it. :/
This American aisle screams 'movie theater snacks.' This looks like they googled 'movie theater food in the US' and assume this is what Americans eat all the time. 😂😂😂
Those hot dogs in a jar are disrespectful!!! 😫😫😫
🤣🤣🤣
How is hot dogs in a jar any more gross than hot dogs in a can or vacuum pack 😂
Equally gross lol
They just started just the marshmallow lucky charms recently in the US. They wrong for them hotdogs 🥴
😆
Your right Paige about twinkies and yes they did come back! Hot dogs in a jar, where did they get that crap 💩 from, I have never ever seen that mess here!! Watching from USA 🇺🇸!
Thanks for watching Muriel!
Do they have stuff to cook most soul food in the UK? Like green, cornbread, gumbo etc.
hmmm good question
Why would you want to eat that American cr8ap anyway when your surrounded foods 10x better quaility. Yeah I lived in Merica for 20 years, the food is mostly cra8p
Hot dogs in the jar remind me of the Vienna sausages in a can.
Oh yeahhh 🤢
I remember eating Vienna sausages as a kid in the 70s...but they were better then. I draw the line on "Brooklyn Style" hot dogs not even from the US! 😂
Worst item is the hot dogs, love the candy selection. They don’t have ramen, or good cookies.
😆
First thing that came to my mind was Twinkies, and there they were 😀. And yes Twinkies made a comeback.
😆
LOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL nah this was too funny. It's interesting to see what other people think of the US from their perspective. The hotdogs in a jar took me OUT
LOL
Aren’t hot dogs supposed to be refrigerated?
One would think lol
There in brine, so no.
You should go visit Cadbury world!
Good grief where do you find all these fine men!?
LOL
Root beer is Canadian.
Where do you find your black hair care products there? ATL......
They have plenty of beauty supplies here
They're all going to be crap in any supermarket🤣. I don't bother unless it's an actual 'American groceries' store like in Camden... I wonder it's it's still there🤔
So when you buy a hot dog on the street don't those sausages come out of a jar or can? My issue with them in a jar is they tend to be made from mechanically-recovered meat. Eww. The pancake mix seemed expensive? But everything else was reasonable as you said.
🥴🥴🥴
Over here they have international stores that cater to expats of other countries. Do they have international stores over there where you can buy more traditional American foods? The hot dogs in a can is a hard NO. What about cheeses? Can you buy “American Cheese” over there? I know American cheese is trash, but it would be interesting if they sold it.
Also, at the beginning of the video, were you near a cemetery? 😬
That’s a good question! I’ve really only seen American stores that had snacks/junk food. & lol yes we were, they’re kind of everywhere here
@@PaigeMariah oh wow. 😬
I was distracted the entire video, that man is fine! 🥵
👀😆
I think I speak for all American expats... Hotdogs in a jar is not an American thing. I've never seen those back home and I don't know any Americans who would eat them. Ewww
🤣
Eagle Pride Amplified!#NCCU#BaynesHall#LathamHall#HBCU
hot dogs in a jar omg 😅🤮
🤣🤣🤣
Hi new subscriber here! I'm a friend of Joel Wood. I'd love to see you do a collaboration with Joel & Lia! From Beth 💕
Please let them know! 😆 thank you for subscribing 💕
Hot Dogs in a jar, I’ve never seen that in America.
Me either
Whoot Whoot REPPIN Ohio. 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Yeah that “American” section was rubbish. 😂😂😂
😆
Hot Dogs in A Jar I'd Definitely Try Them If I Could Find Them Here In The States !! 😋😋😊
🤢🤢🤣
