I definitely made the wrong career choice 25 years ago. Driving trains was my childhood dream and i didn't do it. Fabulous footage Adam

I wanted to also but I'm almost blind in my left eye ...I'd give anything to be able to do it as a profession, Finally got to work in rail as a signal electrician, but it's just not the same.

Hi Adam, many thanks for the great video and letting us ride along with you. It is good that N464 still has its City of Geelong name board still attached to the loco cab. All N class loco's were named after cities in Victoria that V/line operated to. Stay safe, cheers Lee.

Farm country Victoria as someone who grew up on a farm it never seems to amaze me who absolutely beautiful our country is, and not let politicians ruin it for greed. Your video of farm land and towns is spot on mate. Cheers..

Those N's definitely sound good, going to be sad when they're gone from passenger service but I'm sure they'll have a great future with SSR and others no doubt. Going to be even better when the unmuffled A70 comes out to play with them.

It’s rare to see trains run down the middle of a street or highway nowadays

love the upload, especially the puffs of smoke and the heat haze from up on top, also thanks for the little bits of info here and there, it all goes to make a great upload.

I remember seeing some Ns on freight ops back when they first introduced but after all these years it's taking a bit to get used to seeing them hauling grain for SSR. Each time one pops up in a video or photo, I'm still doing a double take.

not the prettiest locomotive on the rails but you can't argue with the beautiful sound of those 2-stroke EMD prime movers. I should have been a railroad engineer.

Beautiful footage there Adam! Very weird to see the N's on freight but a welcome addition as you say. I assume the have HEP ? I didn't realise they were 12-645's , no wonder they sound the same as our 2300's up here in Brisbane! I was in Melbourne in August and got the Overland to Adelaide, at Southern Cross a N was idling and the HEP diesel (I assume) was blowing heaps of smoke and you could smell the oil in the air !
    Cheers Gregg.

We don't use the Hep now as it's not required, yes same As the 2300s. But these have mufflers, the A class and I believe 2300s dont.

Top work Adam. Must be different to your crew running 40 blockers. Loved working the N bangas although the bogies used to give me the absolute shits.
    All the best Big Man.

God, I love that country! I think if I had to move to a remote country town (more remote than the one I currently live in), I'd go to Wycheproof. And the colours in this clip were amazing too. Great stuff!

Can you do a long loud big horn on N466 outside in the Next Video because I love it when the train drivers give me long loud High Note Horn for me.

Does the train crew do the brake examinations, or do you have train examiners to do it for you?

Excellent clear video, with some great view points (Cab roof etc).
The N class was used for fast passenger trains, how does it go hauling freight at a slower speed? Does it have the same torque as a G class?

Just prior to 04:20 how would you know the points aren't accidentally diverted to that siding & you pass so many sidings along any route? I couldn't image being at speed and being accidentally diverted to a siding (especially because of human error) . . . Multiple videos of that exact situation on UA-cam, especially in America and very bad consequences :(

They are locked by master key, there is always room for error but with good training it's unlikely, but it did happen in Ararat in 1999.

Excellent stuff mate. How many " Weetie's " were you tuggin' ? It seemed to be a bloody long load. I'm doing a Wheat themed N scale layout and there is some awesome ideas in this Vid. Thanks heaps.
