Costae tetra is the first tetra that actually really school in my aquarium (back and forth), and because of that i really like them other ones like Colombian tetras and Diamond tetras did not and are not schooling in my aquarium (even though - according to the descriptions - they should).
My diamond tetras schooled a bit when they were very young (I have a video of them doing it posted here from years ago actually) but once they reach adulthood they become more territorial with the males displaying toward each other and breeding constantly with the females.
I haven't kept emperor tetras before but I am planning on maybe getting some soon for one of my tanks. From what I have seen though watching videos of emperor tetras they are like other tetras with really distinct sexual dimorphism where they are less of a schooling fish and more territorial with males displaying and squabbling with other males or courting females. So they are just a very different vibe and IMO both are nice. The courtship behavior of fish like that is fun to watch but also the shoaling/schooling behavior of fish like Moenkhausia costae is also really nice. Especially in large numbers.

Any reason to get these and not the emperor tetra?
