Sewellia lineolata (reticulated hillstream loach) in the 33 Gallon River Tank.
Got 3 reticulated hillstream loaches for the river tank. The Danio choprae and a new blue neon goby (Stiphodon atropurpureus) make an appearance too.

Dicrossus filamentosus
Переглядів 204 години тому
Finally got some Dicrossus filamentosus for the 40 gallon blackwater tank, 8 of them. They are so tiny and cute. I decided to put them in a 10 gallon quarantine tank for a while since they are wild caught. Probably a good idea as they seem to be very finicky eaters and the cardinal tetras and pencilfish in the 40 gallon are very voracious eaters. They are spitting out all the food I give them b...
Snow Amano Shrimp

Got some new fish and shrimp this week. These are a white form of Amano Shrimp called "snow" from Aquatic Arts to deal with the string algae that has started to form in the 45 gallon.
Yellow-rumped Warblers Have Arrived

Some additions to both aquariums this week. Not sure how I feel about what I did to the 46 gallon. Were these additions a mistake?

Coyote and Bat

A siren in the neighborhood got all the dogs and a nearby coyote yipping. It only lasts the first 5 or so seconds of the video but as I waited to see if it would start up again you can see a bat fly past at about the 20-22 second mark.

Danio choprae (Glowlight Danio) first fish for 33 gallon river tank.

The stones are called Noiyo Cobble and are an assortment of sizes from 1/2" to 3" and were just $10 at a local landscape supply company. The smaller gravel is UNS Controsand - Sequoia and the sand is UNS Controsand - Pacifica. FYI the 33 gallon is an interesting tank size that people often ask about but I am not sure I would recommend it. It has the same footprint as a 55 gallon and I believe a...

Courtship Behavior in Farlowella vittata
Переглядів 10021 день тому
Two male Farlowella vittata battle for a female's attention as she scrapes and cleans the nesting site with her mouth. I'm not sure which male was the winner but eggs were laid later in the evening. Always nice to be rewarded with spawning if you give your fish suitable conditions and these Farlowella are very easy to breed.
Update on the Planted Aquariums

About a week after I planted my 45 and 46 gallon plants with tissue cultured plants. Tried to get a little fancier with editing in plant names on this one but I only have iMovie and don't know what I am doing so don't expect too much!

100 Gallon Aquarium Update - Angelfish & Tetras
What a great tank, love the rock layout. I kept some glowlight danios a while back and their orange highlights really colored up in my tank. I agree, they swim so fast it was hard to keep up with them!
How are the kh on both tanks? Maybe try 60% water changes once or twice a week for 2 months. I took out my Seiri rock because it just kept raising my kh.
honey gourami would be alright it'll eat the shrimplets but not the adults so if you let them breed up a bit and add it later u should be alright
Also the shrimp I ordered were Neocardinia. I always mix up Neocardinia and Cardinia.
Neocaridina have different PH Better in slightly alkaline between 7-8 degree Caridina shrimps doing well in PH 5.8 - 6.8 degree and soft water around 50-120 ppm TDS. So mixing them should be done wisely.
Good luck with your newly established aquarium tank I wish you success with cryptocoryne flamingo and Utricularia graminifolia bladderwort carnivorous of microorganisms in water column, hopefully the aquarium is mature enough for it to sustain and survive. Do you agree with me that it would be better with more fast growing plant as limnophila sessiliflora and rotala rotundifolia to compete with algae . Wating your new update, success
We'll see what happens. I used the dark start methods on these tanks so there was no ammonia by the time I planted and so far there has not been any melt. But we'll see how well the plants do long term.
This is why danios need space to race around. They are a fast swimming, athletic fish.
Yeah they move so fast I can barely see them! It's okay though. My main focus of this tank will be the gobies and loaches eventually. I just wanted a little fast fish for the upper water column too and these seemed like a good choice.
Beautiful tank!
Love how much space they have to swim!
Very nice
Awesome tank man will get a river one like this in the future
Tank looks great.
Love these,so active and well sized for community tanks
Great looking tanks
Thanks! The fish room was looking a bit grim for a while so I am trying to get it together and make it into something I am not embarrassed to have people see.
What kind of plant is in the background looks awesome.
It is 3 x 5 year old Anubias barteri 'Coffeefolia'
Very nice aquarium ❤

Beautiful colours
Costae tetra is the first tetra that actually really school in my aquarium (back and forth), and because of that i really like them other ones like Colombian tetras and Diamond tetras did not and are not schooling in my aquarium (even though - according to the descriptions - they should).
My diamond tetras schooled a bit when they were very young (I have a video of them doing it posted here from years ago actually) but once they reach adulthood they become more territorial with the males displaying toward each other and breeding constantly with the females.
Any reason to get these and not the emperor tetra?
I haven't kept emperor tetras before but I am planning on maybe getting some soon for one of my tanks. From what I have seen though watching videos of emperor tetras they are like other tetras with really distinct sexual dimorphism where they are less of a schooling fish and more territorial with males displaying and squabbling with other males or courting females. So they are just a very different vibe and IMO both are nice. The courtship behavior of fish like that is fun to watch but also the shoaling/schooling behavior of fish like Moenkhausia costae is also really nice. Especially in large numbers.
Beautiful scape!
very lovely and peaceful. Thank you for sharing
Very nice. Beautiful
Thanks for sharing!
Is the coexistence peaceful? What are the defects of both?
The coexistence of what? All the fish in this tank got along just fine.
The moment those baby kribs became separated from the parents, I knew they were goners ......that and the title of the video. The parents must be new parents for them to not be that attentive.
It was so interesting keeping the Steatocranus and the Kribensis and their baby rearing behavior. In a 46 gallon the kribs were the only ones that bred so it was just two adult Steatocranus with them. I actually got the Steatocranus to keep down the baby population but they really didn't do much. I also had a Microctenopoma for the same purpose but it also really didn't make much of a dent. The big African tetras ignored the babies completely. The only thing that kept the krib population down was the young adult babies from the generation before. And then once I moved them all to the 110 gallon the Steatocranus started breeding and it was over for the Kribs. Something shifted and the Steatocranus became the dominant fish. And no one hunted baby Steatocranus. Even other Steatocranus ignored them.
very nice, thank you!
Bummer about the cories. Love your choices of fish . You have good taste. Cories are different but not too finicky usually. They do seem to like some flow though. Dither fish always allow them to be more secure. Maybe you just got some with bad genes? They should live at least 5 years right? Nothing nothing worse then having a species die off a few a month. The worst feeling it just racks your head. That happened too me with bettas i bred. You just don't want anything to do with them after that. Beautiful tank and wait until the Altums get bigger. Looking forward to your future videos.
I think generally the age range of Corydoras can be anywhere from 5-10 years but I had some of the less common species so I'm not sure if anyone has ever documented how long they can live. I would guess the age range of the various species I had when they died was anywhere from 1-5 years.
Nice Angelfish. How much did you pay for the Altum? Did you purchase from local source?
They were on sale for $80 each. Got them mail order from The Wet Spot in Portland, Oregon. Where I live fish like this wouldn't be available locally so I buy all my fish mail order.
Wow that is a beautiful set up. Looks like some very happy fish. Very active. How old are the Angelfish? That tank may get a little crowded when they reach full size.
Apparently angelfish can reach sexual maturity at 6 months old so I am guessing that is about how old they are considering how small they were when I got them less than 3 months ago. Yeah I mentioned in the video my plan is to remove 4 of the angelfish.
Awesome 🥰
Adult pairs are so goofy, but the chicks are so cute
Special care? Does that mean with water parameters or changes?
Yes they prefer soft and somewhat acidic water and low nitrates. This tank has low GH and KH and about 6.5 pH so I should be okay on that front. Sump filter so nitrates have generally not been too bad and I just need to keep up on water changes. They are F1 and not wild caught so that should help. They seem really hardy and tough so far and are eating as eagerly as the other types of angels I have.
@@kmaguire7161 Cool! Yea maybe just used aged water changes and not to big. 2 years from now wow! Congrats .
Nice setups! ;)
African tetras tank?
In pretty bad shape at the moment. I am going to consolidate two of my other tanks into a 40 breeder and do something else with the 120 eventually. I'll post an update when I move the remaining fish.
@@kmaguire7161 what happened?!
He is a gem. Thank You for sharing.
Beautiful tank! How many gallons? and what is the kind of tetra with the black line?
This was a 35 gallon aquarium. The tetras with the black like are Hyphessobrycon amapaensis (red-line tetra). A few of them are still alive so about 8 or 9 years old.
What is the name of the yellow eye tetra?
Brycinus longipinnis, alestes tetra or long-finned tetra.
@@kmaguire7161 that one is gorgeous
@@kmaguire7161 Thanks. You got beautiful healthy looking fish there!
omg how'd you get such good ones
BEAUTIFUL
how do you tell male from female when they are small
You generally can't when they are small. Usually the adult males will develop a more extensive hump on their head but in my first pair the male's hump really wasn't that different than the female so until they bred I wasn't sure I had a pair.
@@kmaguire7161 are males aggressive compared to females in regards to other tank mates? Is that a female on the right?
What u feed them?
Long update on your African tetras tank?
GORGEOUS tank! Thank you for sharing!
Nanochromis Transvestitus?
Nope. Moliwe Kribensis. Sadly they are all gone now.
@@kmaguire7161 middle screen at 32 seconds? Small one
No se come a los peques?
No they take care of them and protect them.
Don't feed them for awhile and get those SAE's busy cleaning up. Love your choices. I am thinking the Congo's, fantastics, or a black Darter tetra with Cory Hastatus in a 90 corner tank. Yours are so nice, and a inspiration to many of us. Thanks for sharing . Total inspiration I see that you are from the SLO area and i am from SJ. You do not see alot of NorCal or your area. What a lovely area and fishing out of this world. Enjoy Enjoy! 300 Gal ideal bro . Ideal.
Do you have soft or hard water? What's your pH?
My well water has high nitrates so I use RODI water that I remineralize. So it is fairly soft and I think I have the pH at about 6.5 if I remember correctly.
@@kmaguire7161 I see. I really want some A. brichardi but my water is super hard and has a pH of 8.2 so I don't know if they would do well
