Installation of Watts Backflow Prevention Device Double Check Valve - Complete Walk-Through

- Without a backflow preventer, the dirty water your building uses can cause backflow when water pressures change. This creates safety hazards for more than your family or customers. The right amount of force can send contaminated water back into the whole town's water supply.

I had to have a Back-flow Prevention Device installed 17+ years ago for my Irrigation System at our House. Annual Inspections are a Requirement. 🤔👍
Only a sprinkler company tells u there are necessary..(or a plumber) guess how long the test is? Now guess the price?
@@jimmyjamesl2318the test takes about 5 minutes, they charge about 150.00,around here,I’m in new orleans, Louisiana.
Nice to see you using a pipe slice now.. and the new guys seems a really decent guy!
Good job Mike, a lot of plumbers wouldn't have added extra supports, and you spent the extra money to do a good job, and the damn split ring breaks, Damn!!!
Lovely video Mikey. Short and simple and to the point. Albeit slowed down for the explanation side on the video.
These are the best kinds of calls to get
YES ! Mikey, I was the head mechanic for a 48 lane house here in Jersey for 50 years. I had a few other side gigs as well, but this was my #1 job. In a bowling center you learn just about everything, from plumbing to wood working and lane repairs. Bowling Corp. of America was centered in Long Island. 70 centers at one point.
Very cool!
Nice looking finished installation. Honestly never expected Mikey Pipes having a call in a bowling house. The noise in that back room is insane when all of those pin setters are running during league nights.
Glad you enjoyed it
Here in Texas we don't have any backflow requirements at least in the county I live in for the main water supply. We do have requirements on non-potable branches off the main, yard sprinklers, pool supply, fire sprinklers. I have two separate backflow preventers, one each for fire and yard sprinkler systems. The good thing is that I don't need any expansion tank on the water heaters, as it can expand back into the city supply side. So at least I don't have to keep replacing those! Keep up the good work sir! 👍🤠
I need to go bowling again soon. Also thanks for the knowledge, good stuff.
Go for it!
Great video Mikey!
Glad you enjoyed it
Shouldn't the city water pressure be checked first, before installing a backflow prevention device? In case the pressure has recently increased, so that a PRV might also be required. Or maybe the water meter itself could potentially be changed out for a newer "remote readable" model of water meter that already includes a backflow prevention function? The hose bib also including an anti-siphon feature. Would be interesting to learn what water pressure range is appropriate for such a business location. Anyway: good luck.
In NYC we have to add a test T with a valve or hose bib ( a hose cock with out threads) after the backflow and need an outlet (ball valve) valve after the test T
Great job,get a hose vacuum breaker on that hose bib ,before inspection 😊
After putting in the backflow preventer did you check the water heater for an expansion tank
yes
Does the new backflow preventer once installed need to be tested or would you wait and test within a year as per New York regulations ? .. Just curious .
Yes. We test after installation
Does the city give you a list of backflow valves that are approved or is it left up to the installer ?
My city does and I believe he mentioned CCC in the video. Cross connection control
any reason we are not installing the pressure vacuum breaker? i mean you said yourself it needs maintenance every 5 years vs the one you installed needs it every year ?
Code requirements
How much does the check valve cost

how do you prevent the propress jaws from sticking on fittings?
Dov needs the pipe vise
Is that a commercial code? Or does it also apply to residential?
It can apply to both. Where i am backflow for irrigation, pool filler, etc. house side those vacuum breakers on hose bibbs. Just need to think, is it permanent supply into potential contaminated water?.. Again in our area.
Dam nice an impressive installation… too bad everyone doesn’t go the extra mile to do it right and make it look professional not like a hack job .. I swear 75 percent of pipe layers have no pride in their work ..🥺☹️😣
You could cut the threads off the Sedi.
In our jurisdiction sediment faucets/ hose bibs are allowed as a point of relief ( ie: changing water meter ) but the inspector is good if you cut off the hose thread.
That valve setup looks expensive
@8:25 min you guys actually shower and drink the lubricant filled with PCB'S in New York..if we find that inside of a Natural Gas Meter our Haz Mat team has to come out and decern if it's Lubricant from our Transmission system or really PCB'S ...CREATS A bigger job than expected especially in low lying areas
Doesn’t the meter has back flow prevention?
no
Just installed one of these at a different hvac company because they didn’t have a plumbing license lol
lol 😂
So funny to see Earthquake Braces on The Natural Gas Meter...must be for the Busses Rumblings...we just take our 18 inch Pipe wrench 🔧 and shatter them here in Southern California SoCal Gas Territory they were installed during the dinosaur era...Socal Gas Retiree 30 years 😅😂😂😊
