I don't understand how the consumer or viewer's freedom of speech is being violated. Are they claiming access to pornography is a right? Isn't it the producer who is actually "speaking"?
The person without God's spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit, but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them, for they are discerned only through the Spirit. I Cor 2:14. Praying that God would give my non-believing friends and relatives new birth through his Spirit.
My son wants nothing more than to play video games, but my wife and I don't view them as healthy, especially for him. We've given small exceptions, but by and large we just don't have them in our home. All his friends play a lot of video games and we've just decided to be the weird parents. Oh well I guess. If a counter culture is to be created, someone has to start. We replace the time he would spend otherwise with family worship.
As someone who grew up playing video games and still has to be extremely careful with how I use my time now that I'm a parent I would implore you to stick with it! Even once you cut out all the trash in games you are still left with what is in many cases a waste of time. You can certainly develop many skills but it's a tricky thing to balance. I like to have my daughter playing engineering and other learning games to help her analysis and critical thinking, but she only plays with her parents, and supervised.
@Version135 thank you for the encouragement! Sounds like we have a similar approach. We allow a lot more productive screen time and really try to limit the unproductive screen time. There are tons of games and programs that teach skills, so we primarily push those. Fun times playing games with family and friends during special occasions is fine.
Anti porn laws are useful insofar as they can de-normalize porn consumption. If a kid has access to the Internet, no supervision, and the desire to do so, then he’s going to be able to view porn.
My issue with the view of salvation strictly being for those who are aware of their faith in Jesus & profess it, is that there’s many young children & miscarriages who would be in hell. It would please Satan very much for God to let that be the case. I think the Bible tells us everything we need to know, but it is clearly not comprehensive about God’s plan; consider for example what John was not permitted to tell us he learned in his vision
My wife and I had a miscarriage and I'm confident my child is in heaven. Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, for of such is the kingdom of heaven". That's a nail in the coffin for me. When the Bible says "confess" it's speaking of under normal circumstances. Imagine if the Bible made every silly clarification - "confess the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, unless youre mute, or haven't yet learned to speak, and if I missed any other reason you couldn't confess with your mouth that too, and believe in your heart and you will be saved!"
The harm from pornography to EVERYONE is incalculable.
