    As someone who lived in Hawaii for a while in the early 2000's. I wish Kei vehicles were the norm there. I feel like they're really the perfect vehicles for the islands.

    The Subaru Domingo was also sold in Germany as the Subaru Libero (also with EFI engines) and it was quite a popular car back then as it could match up to Autobahn speeds.
    Nowadays it's still a quite sought after item, with some very good kept up examples (especially these with the retracable glas-sunriof) reaching prices up to 12k€.

    Unfortunately, "no replacement for displacement" isn't always right. It may be twice the size, but in reality only makes maybe 5-10 more horses than a nice turbo'd/supercharged Kei engine. The EF12 was pretty sluggish when it came out, but it's built to last. If you did get one, make sure it's got EFI and slap in a turbo. Expensive, but you'd have the fastest Kei-type van around. Really cool van either way, might run a bit nicer in town than your average Kei van too.

      For around town and just normal city driving it really is a better kei van in every way. I think the only flaw these have besides the ECVT is parts are hard to come by and more expensive than usual. but I definitely want one eventually

    I didn't know about the Domingo's engine. Nice. 1200cc, if you add a turbo you get that acceleration power you need on american freeways and can cruise without super stressing the engine all the time.

    • @Lepretr0n
      @Lepretr0n 7 місяців тому +2

      people overrate how much acceleration you actually need for american highways. I pulled a fully loaded teardrop trailer with my fiat 500 across the states. Acceleration was horrific but someone will always end up letting you merge. (though it felt a bit sketchy at times)

    Love the seats/ fabric pattern. I own a '91 Supercharged Dias 2. For town driving, I feel that's where these should live. School runs, grocery runs. Even if I could go comfortably highway speed (it would be screaming) I just wouldn't feel safe. Even with that added 'bumper' YOU are the crumple zone.

The late 90s/early 00s Landys are pretty sweet, though! Very similar to the Domingo in size and functionality and even though they moved the engine to the front, they still look really cool, unlike a lot of modern kei vans.

      I had a 94 Subaru Leone wagon back in Australia and loved the selectable 4WD - was thinking of getting something similar when I moved to Vancouver (Canada), but immediately jumped at the chance to get a Subaru Domingo when I saw one for sale. For the weather here (averaging >160 rainy days a year, w/ occasional snow, slush, leaf mulch and mud) the full-time 4WD is honestly lovely to have. Might not be the greatest for fuel economy if you are driving a lot or doing lots of highway driving, but for getting around a wet city and the occasional shitty road, it's a nice little feature.

    Looks nice but not liking the 3rd row of seats. I'd rather just have a 2nd row and use a foam flip chair for an extra seat and a bed when I need it. That way you can put in some storage space on the side for storage.

      You could probably remove the middle or rear seat in the back and how a cool setup inside

      @@Waybeforethefame he has some great looking stuff but the shipping costs just make it too expensive. Too bad there isn't a cargo plane to fly it from Hawaii to the east coast. Or even a ship that would bring it to the east. I love what he is doing with that yellow 4 wheel drive car. That is going to be amazing.

      JDM Mean "Japanese Domestic Market" and refers to cars that were made by Japanese companies, obeying the country's regulations. Kei is a class of cars that are small and awesome pretty much lol
