The Paul Yeah, for 2 reasons 1: The 5 year gap. It would have been better if maybe during season 2 they showed what happened in the 5 year gap. 2: To many characters, if they followed the same formula as season 1 where each character was slowly introduced, then it wouldn't have been so bad
Season 2 had a mini comic that explained many of the events during the 5year gap.But the tv show could of done a better job at it.Yea I found they added way to many characters just for fanfare. But it easily could of went another way if they gave it another chance
Exactly, most people think that if they watch the show, then they don't have to read the comics. I bet that if Cartoon Network gave the show a reboot. Then it probably would be awesome, just get as many different voice actors so that so many of the same people won't voice to many characters.
My favorite Black Manta moment is in Brightest Day when it shows that after the death of Aquaman he'd retired from supervillainy to run a fish market. But after he finds out Aquaman is back from the dead, he murders everyone in his shop, burns it down, and walks into the ocean to start being a villain again. Dude fucking hates Aquaman.
Damn right. Just flipped the switch from normal dude to fucking supervillain and started slashing throats with the knife he'd been using to clean fish.
I was pissed when they give him the "politically correct" name of "Devil Ray" in Justic League: Unlimited. Seriously? It's not like the man's name was "Nigga Fish". Just give him his correct name. Little did I know it was a copyright concern.
Aquaman just can't catch a break. "What's your super power? Talking to fish?" "Why are you beating up an autistic civil rights activist? Racist." "What kind of stupid name is Akwuh-man?"
LOL! Not only that, but is currently going through more s h i t in his Rebirth series. He recently got arrested because he was falsely accused for leading a group of rogue Atlanteans to blow up a ship. Not only that, but he is trying to be a diplomat and unite the surface world and underwater world with peace, and he just is not getting much luck for it. Oh, and Black Manta blew up the Atlantean Embassy and killed multiple people, and he still gets s h i t from the US government for it. Poor, poor guy.
Black Manta: "no agreement exists that makes a slave of Black Manta" Black Beetle: "no agreement exists that guarantees the life of Black Manta" Black Manta: "Manta guarantees that himself" One of my favourite scenes from Young Justice
These comments are gold. Top issues 1. Pronunciation of "Aquaman" 2. The fact Aquaman's child is called "aquababy" 3. Copyright issues from nowhere 4. The fact that Aquaman was beating an autistic civil rights activist.
Jamazoid yeah. But then turned into psycho bastard. He had some good stories about him, but a lot of them were written poorly. The new 52 line up though did actually provide more to his character that wasn't bad writing or hypocritical to his character.

DC could truly knock Aquaman out of the park with Black Manta. Can you imagine an angry soul from Baltimore MD, discussing the Freddie Gray case with his peaceful-minded father (Uncle Ben) on a boat in Chesapeake Bay who dies "accidentally' from the hands an Atlantean soldier. Vowing revenge; David graduates college, building his armored suit (a laTony Stark) with a sole purpose to eliminate the Atlantean Race By Any Means Necessary. Imagine that role played by Denzel Washington or Idris Elba.

Great Video but you guys need to Include recent adaptations because you failed to Mention Brainiac in Superman Unbound as well also Manta in Flashpoint Paradox Come on
Why didn't you mention or show clips of Black Manta's recurring and awesome appearances on Young Justice? You kept going back to the same terrible old cartoon
Amazing video. So much I didnt know. And you give a great narration and combination of images. Even the gorky ones from the times I used to watch Aquaman on TV!
DC needs to get their heads outta their asses and make an Aquaman movie. It could easily tie in with Man of Steel during the oil rig explosion in the ocean. And an Aquaman movie could be a good tie in for Wonder Woman as well since the amazons often battled the atlantiens. But I would name Aquaman's movie "King of Atlantis".
Alice Wiswell was she actually a villian? i watched the cartoons, i remember her being a piece of shit but still i thought she was a good guy all this time...
Is someone who hires criminals to do government dirty work just because no one will miss them if they die AND gets a good sleep at night really a hero?
+NightWolf isn't common playing a role in Suicide Squad already? I think he's literally called "Tattoo Man" & i agree about Idris Elba being John Stewart.
By far one of the most recognizable black super villains. Mojo also forgot to mention that Manta was a main villain in Young Justice:Invasion (RIP) and in the movie Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox where he and Aqua man were actually allies
i think black manta is awesome villain, with an interesting background who even killed aquaman's son and its fascinating to me that aquaman hid manta's son aqualad. i hope that aquaman's rogues galery will grow with villains like manta and to see manta some day on the big screen as dark and vengeance thirsty and menacing villain would be amazing. i love his iconic suit, it instantly reminds me its black manta. i cant wait to see him clash aquaman on the big screen, he is awesome in the new 52
I prefer his original and retcon origins. The New52 makes him typical villain rather than a one to sympathize with or care that he is apart of the story, and that is besides the killing of Aquaman's son. . The other two origins had Aquaman being unintentionally involved in creating Manta, while New52 just blatantly says "This is an accident, and Black Manta is just crazy." That sense of uniqueness is gone.
Allways tought Aquaman was kind of a gay superhero... But Aquababy? Both DC and MARVEL have their fare share of bad names for their characters. But i think DC just takes the cake because of such names as Aquababy.... HAHA!xD
And then there was Aqualad... They never learn. Anyways i have a question. How come back in the days all the superheroes had them panties on? It makes no sense at all. Superman, Batman and even Aquaman... They all have panties. Why? And then theres their side kicks... Robin and Aqualad, both have panties on. But no tights under. WTF? What was DC's obsession whit young buys in pnaties? That's kind of creepy when you think about it.... Imagine if Batman or Aquaman where real and they where seen whit their sidekicks. They would be acused of Pedophilia. Dressing up young buys in tight shirts and panties and then taking them out to fight crime... Not cool bro!
andvas1994 You have to remember these cartoons were made from the 1930/40s onward. At least for Superman, those pants were to symbolise acrobats at circus fairs etc.
andvas1994 Superhero costumes were originally based on wrestler costumes. Theyre not panties, more like briefs. At least thats what they were intended to be. And please, lets not forget Wolverine, Namor, Taskmaster, Cyclops, Daredevil (his are the same color as his costume so its harder to tell) all used to do the same with their costumes
andvas1994 i think it was to just break up the colours, although I agree about the young boys in nothing but breifs from the waste down, I love comics but that's just straight up creepy
Do more origin less story telling. There isn't a lot of information about the characters powers, place of birth or motive for taking the paths they chose. You can do better than just reading a book and regurgitating the information. So far this trend is true for all your origin videos. Please rethink the strategy of presenting these projects, because they have great potential.
You think? I feel that it's lacking. I would like like to see more of the why, if you know what I mean. I grew up in the 80's and got into comics in the late 80's early 90's and a lot of questions never got answered concerning character origins. so having an origin show like this, I expected more.
Yeah. Maybe it's because ever since I have got into comics I looked up pages of the character on Wikipedia and one of the first things I got when getting into comics was a DC encyclopedia with info on almost all the characters so I have always been somewhat familiar with the character. When reading about the characters I always wondered how their early adventures were like and how did the art look like. I see what you mean. I think the origin is cut down a bit for the explanation of how the character came around though there still is enough origin.
"Oh, Arthur. Look at our beautiful baby boy. What shall we name him?" "Aquababy!" "Uh....welll..." "Aquababy." "See, I was thinking naming him after my grandfather or even Arthur Jr..." "Aqua. Baby."
He was Badass in Young Justice.
Please don't remind me of that amazing show that got cancelled out of thin air.
96komodo Thin air? Dawg, that show was on the ropes since the start of season 2.

Ack-wa-man
That's actually the right way to pronounce aqua since it's a Spanish word.
Black Manta also played a big part in Young Justice: Invasion
Ashamed it got canceled
soicyboiinc
For those atrocious Batman and Teen Titans shows
Austin Pamer Beware the Batman is a good show! But Teen Titans Go DOES suck. I did NOT sigh petitions for THAT!
Well Manta is the father of Kaldur in Young Justice.
ForJustice1324 I know, I saw the whole series, that's why he played an important part! :)
Aquaman looks kinda like Fred Jones from Scooby Doo in that cartoon. 5:00
He was bad ass in the Aquaman man movie. I'd love to see more of this character on the big screen.
Me too
Aqua baby LOL!!!
I just can't... :)

Black Manta is pretty awesome, I think they really captured his high-tech suit in Young Justice the best.
Young Justice Black Manta is the best portrayal in television.
Black Manta is also the new Aqua Lad's Bioliogical father acording to Young Justice
Jay Akuma I know that is why I said according to young justice I mean they killed off kid flash and replaced him with impulse

Why didn't you mention or show clips of Black Manta's recurring and awesome appearances on Young Justice? You kept going back to the same terrible old cartoon
I can't finish watching this...the mention of "AKWA-MAN!" is killing me! 😂😂😂
Rocket Raccoon is getting a movie before The Flash... DC/WB are being stupid.
Holy Shit! Finally a black supervillain!
Wow there's more than I thought. I'm rather new to Comics. Thanks for the info.
Amanda Waller tho
Alice Wiswell was she actually a villian? i watched the cartoons, i remember her being a piece of shit but still i thought she was a good guy all this time...
Is someone who hires criminals to do government dirty work just because no one will miss them if they die AND gets a good sleep at night really a hero?
finally ? this is soo old news :/
idris elba should play black manta in a aquaman movie
My vote would be Common. Idris Elba would be better as John Stewart/Green Lantern
+NightWolf isn't common playing a role in Suicide Squad already? I think he's literally called "Tattoo Man" & i agree about Idris Elba being John Stewart.
especially how he was portrayed in young justice, I think Idris would be a great black manta.
By far one of the most recognizable black super villains. Mojo also forgot to mention that Manta was a main villain in Young Justice:Invasion (RIP) and in the movie Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox where he and Aqua man were actually allies
aqua baby?
comic books man, so weird
And that shall be his name till the end of his life.
Aqua teen...
+Dormammu Aqua elder lol
Just imagine being a grown man with the name "Aqua Baby"...
Idris Elba as Black Manta!!!
would watch
Or Jason A. White 😏😏😏😏
2:46 Wow comics, just wow
Its an old comic thats why it was ripped
Yeah, CLEARLY lol
Still no Superhero Origins:Black Panther I see -_-
Still no Black Panther movie either -_-
Right!
Bo there is one
Ishmail Twilley who cares. There is now
Ares Zeuszoon you’re replaying to a 5 year old comment.
i think black manta is awesome villain, with an interesting background who even killed aquaman's son and its fascinating to me that aquaman hid manta's son aqualad. i hope that aquaman's rogues galery will grow with villains like manta and to see manta some day on the big screen as dark and vengeance thirsty and menacing villain would be amazing. i love his iconic suit, it instantly reminds me its black manta. i cant wait to see him clash aquaman on the big screen, he is awesome in the new 52
I prefer his original and retcon origins. The New52 makes him typical villain rather than a one to sympathize with or care that he is apart of the story, and that is besides the killing of Aquaman's son. . The other two origins had Aquaman being unintentionally involved in creating Manta, while New52 just blatantly says "This is an accident, and Black Manta is just crazy."
That sense of uniqueness is gone.
+Decembirth agreed
Black Manta is pretty much the main reason why I can't wait for the Aquaman movie. They better not mess him up!
It's like Deadpool. Alot of names work with "pool" (Ladypool, Kidpool, and even Headpool i think) but none of them make sense.
andvas1994
i think it was to just break up the colours, although I agree about the young boys in nothing but breifs from the waste down, I love comics but that's just straight up creepy
CYBORG ORIGINS!!!
Killmonger & Manta share similar ideals
You know what grinds my gears? The way he says Aquaman
blackmanta in injustice 2 trailer is out. hype :D
i guess yall heard the news huh?
Yup :D
what happened
You ugly
ugly
Ackwaaaaa man, what are you from Boston?
chris71388 No, it's just everyone who's not American pronounces it like that.
Like they pronounce Aluminium instead of Aluminum.
"Ack-Wua-Man"?
McKnighty Yeah, that's how it's pronounced. In America it isn't, but everywhere else.
Well it is an American invention.
He's gonna be the aquaman 2 villain
I still think Black Manta is one of the greatest villains in DCU
aqua baby? seriously guys?
Do more origin less story telling. There isn't a lot of information about the characters powers, place of birth or motive for taking the paths they chose. You can do better than just reading a book and regurgitating the information. So far this trend is true for all your origin videos. Please rethink the strategy of presenting these projects, because they have great potential.
I kinda like the way they do it. They go over their early stories and their origins/motives. The early stories are hard to find for many.
Was anyone else annoyed by his pronunciation of the word aqua he pronounced it like Ahhqua
LostSoul That's how you pronounce it.
"Oh, Arthur. Look at our beautiful baby boy. What shall we name him?" "Aquababy!" "Uh....welll..." "Aquababy." "See, I was thinking naming him after my grandfather or even Arthur Jr..." "Aqua. Baby."
He's a very interesting villian. Can't wait to see him in the Aquaman film
